for hospital and the next six months for small MT office with a very big account. Oh, those were the days!

my first year I made 16k. Doubled that second year. Going on year 6 with (sm)

two local accounts I earned 23,000.00 and a national I earned 35,400... 58,400 this year.  Don't ask me how many hours, though, I really have no idea.  I'm pretty motivated.  (When people ask me how many hours I work a week I reply as many as it takes  I'd say 40-50/week.  I am also a fitness instructer and personal trainer, about 5 hours a week or so.  Decent money (sometimes under the table!) but mostly I just do it for fun and to be social and wear cute work-out clothes.

that first year was a rough one... but I consider it part of my education.

I'm pretty motivated.

Just made 3 months sm
I followed my account to Keystrokes, so I already knew what to expect there, but am very happy I did.  I can call my lead and she will actually answer the phone!!  She also answers emails.  Mostly I am pretty self-sufficient but if I do need help from anyone, they are quick to respond.  Welcome aboard!
Changes were made a few months ago......sm
I haven't had any problems anymore with pay being late in the last 6 months or so since payroll personnel was changed. I have never been taken off my accounts, but a lot does go offshore if they can't get any MTs on the account.
I made the move 8 months ago and am glad I did. I did sm
take an unpaid vacation so I time off and look forward to PTO. I have the insurance they offer now. It is expensive but has covered everything for me. I have also done the question sheet for 3 other insurance companies and they keep getting either turned down or higher rates. I talked to my supervisor, and she said that it is making the owner pull her hair out because KS is too big for some policies, too small for others and has too many pre-existing things for a good rate. Once they get it, though, it will be easier.

My FIL owns construction company and had the same problems for years, so I know it is hard to get good coverage at a good rate.

I have ALWAYS made more than the year before as an MT sm
I thought I had topped out at $30K, but no, I made $33K, surely THAT was the top. No, then I turned around and made $36K. I thought...maybe $40K was reasonable? Will do better than that this year.

I keep waiting for it to stay the same or drop, but not yet, not in 15 years.
I agree. Three months and the best move I made. For radiology, I do not think anyone can compete.
nm
My husband has been on STRIKE for almost four months and we are barely getting by!! The union made
big promises and all I can say is we have lost our job!  We are struggling to get by!  If you go on strike and do WITHOUT you will see what I mean!
I'm not a psychologist and I made nearly that last year.
So... maybe don't believe everything you read works both ways.

By the way, I work for a national and do not have my own accounts so it is possible to make that much with a national.

My QA score has never been less than 99%.

It is possible but it takes a lot of hard work and getting organized.
I have more than 1 job, I am an editor, and I made 106,274 last year
xx
I made excellent money in my very first year but ...
... that was about 13 years ago, and it was with a local MT who needed help for all her own accounts, all easy family practice office visits.  She paid 9 cents gross line, didn't use a counter, just said to manually count the lines on each page (!) but was always at least $5 a page.  We didn't use expanders, had no platform, just used a dictaphone machine hooked up to their office and just typed as it came in, 24-hour turnaround time, and anything that came in after 5 p.m. that day was considered the following days' work.  It was great.  Too bad the big corporations spoiled it for all the little guys out there like me and my mentor.  I haven't made anywhere near what I made that first year since because the big corps ate up all the local accounts around here and won't pay more than 8 cents a line for clinic work.  Sucks.
she worked there for two months - last year
By the time her last check arrived it was another two months after she had sent the equipment back. She would call everyday and get a different response as to why she still hadn't gotten a check for her first two weeks. She wasn't angry or about it, just frustrated because she thought working at home would be a godsend, but in this case it wasn't. It was unfortunate that she did not try other services.
Well, I worked for them for about 6 months last year.
It was not a terrible experience, but it was not a wonderful experience.  Everything about them was just mediocre.   Not much to say, really.  Maybe that's why there aren't many comments.
I only check on here once a day (was feeling like it was an addiction). Last year, I made sm
$52,468 on my 1099.  I am at $1.25 per report.  I do work 8 hours M-F and 4 on Sunday.  I average 18-22 reports an hour.  I know that they are hiring for 3-11:30 on a really good account right now and 2-10 on another.  My lead emailed me this morning to ask if if I knew anyone who might be interested.
This is true..Put it this way. I made $45,000 this year but worked 3 jobs and at least 60
hours a week and sometimes up to 80. I have no desire to do that anymore. I'd be happy with $35,000 working 40 hours a week. What a dream job.
Go for it. I made the move a little over a year ago and have not looked back.
Plenty of work, nice people, decent pay. All in all, one of the best decisions I have made.
I started at 8 cpl, was increased to 9 cpl in 3 months and 9.5 in a year. nm
nm
I "only" make $1.15 per report and have made over $62,000 this year so far. I only work 8 hou
5 days a week and pick up one 4-hour weekend shift a month. It depends on the account, your company, the report length, your expanders, normals, etc. I made $1.43 with Edix before I switched and even though I took a per report loss, I make more money in the past 2 years than ever with Edix. I rarely run out of work, which is a HUGE factor. I know that the company I work for is both praised and condemned on this board, but I am happy at KS.
thank you. I already knew but this validates that I made a wise decision last year.
I was being paid 3.5 cpl, and I always did 100% proof to voice because if MY name is on the report, then it WILL be without errors, and quite honestly we did not have even one MT that I trusted enough to not do a complete proof to voice, which is actually very sad. I provided feedback on errors, for which I was not compensated since I was on straight production. We had tons of new MTs constantly, many of them abysmally bad.

My supervisor loved my work. She said I was the best QA Editor they had, and boy howdy I was because I also worked QC for a bit and got to witness the handiwork of my fellow editors. Nice that they paid their best 3.5 cpl, huh? I stuck it out for as long as I could because I genuinely loved my job, but there comes a time when you just have enough of being taken advantage of. They had wanted to promote me to something that was akin to a QA lead that would also involve training new MTs as well as continuing QA and QC. I would be paid salary, so that's good, but they arrived at the number by basing it on what I had made the previous year (at the lowly 3.5 cpl, mind you), so basically I would have been doing MORE work for the same money. Right. They obviously think we can't do math...lol.

I have gone back to MT. It's harder on my body, but at least I'm not being screwed.

I have been working there for about 10 months
Feel free to e-mail me.
I have been working for them for a few months now
and think I have finally found a home.  I like to do the work I am assigned and go on with my life and they fit that bill for me.  Nice folks and pay is on time.  Last job I had that I thought was a keeper ended up fading out to a vr program.  I hope to stay with TSSC for a long time.   Good luck!
I make twice what I made working at a hospital.
And I even work for MedQuist, no less!
I tested last year. The dates of dictation were from months before, so I don't think there's a

I have been working for Transcend for about 3 months.

They paid me an hourly rate for the training phone call, then straight production.  I was only allowed to do 5 reports a day.  I stayed on QA for about 2 weeks.   Some of the posters on this board claim that they did not have to wait that long.

They do pay on time.  I do run out of work quite a bit during my shift, however, on weekends it picks up quite a bit.

I just started working about 3 months ago
that requires 1 weekend day every week. I didn't think it would be so bad, but I don't like it at all. I realize that the medical field is a 24/7 profession, but I would rather rotate weekends like we did when I worked as a nurse. Better yet, if companies offered a weekend differential, they could probably find enough part-timers who want to work just weekends; wouldn't that be nice. Oh well, so much for dreaming.
9 months and it is not worth staying a year to get the BIG .002 cent raise.
Working for OSi will burn you out quick!
Been working almost 2 months now and almost at required lines. (sm)

Taking me longer to get used to program than I had anticipated.  I know we have 90 days to actually make the grade, but am getting slightly worried.  No one has called me on it, but I am sooo nervous.  I am not a newbie, but maybe I am getting too old to learn new programs/etc.

Of course, checking the boards while I am working is not exactly helping me. I realize that and am only doing so on breaks now.  Any helpful hints?

Why would you keep working for a company for 3 months without being paid? sm

I'm sorry this happened to you, but when the first month's check didn't arrive, that would have been it.  I still enjoy transcribing (most days) but not enough to do it for free.

Good luck to you in getting your money   That's an awful thing to happen to anyone.

There are a lot of people who do and it seems that most love working there. I started 6 months ago
and have no complaints at all. It is refreshing to work for a company that treats employees as individuals, not just a number. I also like that they do not send work offshore and that I only have one main account. I do have 2 back-up accounts, but have never worked on them after training. I am lucky that my main account is very busy, too busy most of the time!
Working for about a year
at Cymed in Ohio. This is the first national company I have been with, so I can't really compare it with others. No problems so far, paycheck is always on time. Seems to always be plenty of work. I type in the evenings most of the time but they seem to be pretty flexible, if I need to make a change in my schedule. Must work one weekend day, either Sat or Sun.
The key is working multiple accounts. Three months is hardly long enough to get a handle sm
on the job.  Maybe better to keep a parttime job until you are up to speed on the new job.  I haven't run out of work in almost a year (and that was only for a few minutes), but I do multiple accounts.  Great company, great people.  Nice bennies.
Before I quit working last year sm
because of health reasons, I was working for Future-Net and had planned on staying with them for the long term. I had come from a national I had been with for 23 years that was great when I started years ago but got bad later. Future-Net reminded me and treated me like it was way back in the day. The money was great andI liked the platform. I just had to leave because of health.

Everybody is different but sometimes you have to make up your mind you are going to stay (unless it just gets so intolerable you can't). There is good and bad in everything. But I still say there are companies that will work with anyone who is willing to cooperate, no complain,do their QUALITY work etc. That was my experience with FN.
50,000.00 a year working for Spheris? ROLF!!!

Has anyone ever left Keystrokes and gone back? I left a few months ago and realize that I made a

Been working for Cardioscribe for a year, never once did not get paid within one week of end of pay
Instead of complaining why don't you do, as I did, and just ask. The line counts are being finalized now and the bank deposit will be made tomorrow. As you mentioned, in past posts pay day is the 7th and 22nd, so start the complaining tomorrow if we do not get paid. I have worked here a year and never once did not get paid within 7 days of close of a pay period. That is pretty good compared to other places I have worked for that took 2 and 3 weeks to get paid for a period of time. For those of you that like to say nasty little things about Cardioscribe, quite often, please do us all a favor and find yourself another job and good luck to you. This will blow your mind I am sure, but I am not afraid to backup what I post with my name. Sheryl Cantrell. You are very welcome to contact me if you have questions and apparently do not know how to ask the right person to get answers. I know Tonya posted her name, email and phone number and none of you who seem so unhappy working here have contacted her. As I told her today, there is just some people that like to stir up trouble no matter where you work. If you can find a place that treats you with more respect, kindness, and never a problem getting paid, please go and be happy.
I made that working for a national...O/T, weekends...no live, now no O/T or weekends(sm)
so no more big bucks, at least from them...looking for second job to make ends meet, don't have husband to help...this sucks.
TransTech and low/no work for months and months _ don't think there are continous holidays LOL

This HORRIBLE low/no work situation has been going on at TT for almost a year now.  You can't convince me it is due to Memorial Day.  Are holidays now assigned in this world to being daily.

That is an excuse these companies use in these no work situations, but it is due to their OVERHIRING.  Holidays just come on a daily basis, but LOW WORK/NO WORK is happening and has happened going on a year now at TransTech.  Always asking to flex into the middle of the night, EVERY weekend, etc.

The TT mgmt checks are NEVER affected, tho, so they can continue to HIRE EVERY MT who gives them a call, and create a NO WORK situation for all of us.  The newbie MT's are cheering at first, but then realize that it hit them in the paycheck, too, and very soon it did!!!!!!!

My company has been low on work for months and months..sm
Tired of getting the same ol' message that things will pick up.  I remember the days of bonuses, making money and being able to pay my bills!  I am also wondering what is going with these companies not having work.  Is everybody sending work overseas?
Last year, there was a letter sent that told us what we earned the previous year. sm
In the past, it has been all or nothing; if you did not hit the lines for full time for the year, you did not get PTO. I talked to my lead this morning about a last-minute vacation and she told me that the yearly packets are going out in a week or so and that the new policy will acrue PTO by the pay period or month. I like that a lot better, but she also made it sound like they are upping the amount of lines needed to acrue PTO. I normally get between 15 and 20,000 lines per pay period, so I am sure that will be fine but I am worried about the periods that have lower volumes, like most of January every year.
u made 300 a week? That's more than I made there.
But no work, no pay. Nice ppl, they really are, some of the nicest in the business. Just can't communicate to save their lives and the recruiters are lying dogs.

I'd say if you're looking for part-time work, as in less than 20 hrs a week's worth of work, then this place is for you. Use them as ur backup. Because guaranteed that's all they're using you for.

Webmedx lets you carry them from year to year sm
You can accrue up to 140 hours (I think) before you stop the accrual process. Don't have to use it all in one year.
I would stick it out, most places are slow now through the end of the year every year (nm)
x
Ditto.. Over 13 years experience working in hospitals doing all types of reports, currently working
for a national etc.. and Spheris told me I didnt have the qualifications. What cracked me up was the hospital I was working at at the time contracted some of our work out to them.. What a joke..I was good enough to work for a hospital and gave them work, yet not qualified enough for them. What is wrong with this picture.
MQ same situation. No pay for working holidays, no pay for working weekends nothing. Now noone works
much anymore and so they jerk the work out of the accounts to some place that throws it back with a lot of bad bad quality. This is the NE region. I dont know what the others are doing.
working from home is awesome but working for DSG is not...
horrible dictators, sound quality is bad, no answers to emails and they run out of work consistently...that is just my experience though...
Last year $36K part time, going to make more this year full time BUT sm

I AGREE it IS getting harder to make money.  I used to make $24 very part time 10 years ago and now...well it is Word and platforms versus WP5.1.  I got 7.5 cents a byte line then and I get 9.5 cents a character line now.  That IS a huge different in point of fact.

OH I WANT MY WORDPERFECT 5.1 BACK!!!!! Bwaaah!

They have definitely made some changes for the better - sm
There are a few people that are no longer there, that made working there very very very horrible, and they have a new insurance plan, and everything is going real smooth now!!
You made my day also! nm
.
I have seen that ad and it made me
sick to my stomach. That is why whenever someone finds out what I do for a living, I am extremely quick to point out the fact that you cannot make near that much. Well, I guess if you had your own accounts and lived in a very busy area, but not where I live.
I made 38+, some are up to 50K. BUT...you need to know...
You need to consider that recruiters work *for the company*, and they don't call the shots on what they sell. I eventually left the biz because I wasn't comfortable with what I was told to say to prospective MTs, knowing it wasn't reality. When you get in the door and things are different, remember also that the supervisor is probably not be in the know about what is sold on the front end, and the recruiter isn't to blame, either. It's senior management that should have their feet held to the fire.

So, don't shoot the messenger, please, because they aren't always in control of the script they're given. I speak from experience.
More $$ can be made as an RN BUT
the work is incredibly physically demanding, shift work is the norm, and holidays have to be covered.   If you love nursing, become a nurse - but don't go into it for the $$.
I made nearly $60,000 ...
…in the 80s, when I worked for a hospital. Now that I work for a national company. my salary is $24,000 a year.
