Do you work in-house here? I applied last August & was told in-house only and they weren't

Where I work I was told I had to get them in or be put back to PT status and lose benefits. nm

Thinking about going back in-house

We are moving to a new town, and two of the hospitals there have job postings for transcriptionists. I'm trying to decide what to do. I know it would be easier to sit down and do the work without the distractions of home, but I would also lose the flexibility.

Has anyone else out there ever gone back to the hospital medical records department? and what was that like for you?

Some hospitals are actually bringing transcription back in house.
I have heard of more and more hospitals bringing transcription back in house and using independent contractors as well as in-house staff to get the job done. So far, it is working out well for most hospitals and, believe it or not, saving the hospital more money then sending it to a service.

Imagine that!!!

Hopefully, 90% of the health services and facilities will bring it back in house and soon!!!!
Totally deluded thinking! "bring transcription back in-house to gain control of the cost."
I just outsourced a hospital where the MTs across the board were making hourly wages that would shock you. My husband, who has a doctorate and makes well over $100 K a year, isn't making what some of them were! Hospitals are outsourcing because the MTs are making way too much money for what they do! Bring it back in house? Not unless they can make it fiscally feasible and pay someone do manage the deal.
She told me she was going back to MT
Wonder what happened.
Sorry, I was told before to try back of an evening when we run out during the day. (sm)
Didn't mean to step on toes. Heck, as long as they won't fire me for it I will gladly just take the time off.
I was told I'd get a call back too
with TAT, hours, etc.; after hearing such wonderful things about the company, lack of follow through on their part did make me blue.
Yes. I quit and was told I could come back

I am back in. The help desk at the hospital told me 10 minutes. nm

Anyone know a company that works with small pool of doctors? Tired of so many doctors nm

About 1-1/2 years ago I tested, aced it, heard back, only to be told with....sm
28 years of experience, formal college education, experience in all areas, all work types, etc., that I would be started at 6cpl, then if I got off probation at around 3 months, I could make 6.5 cpl, and then another six months later perhaps 7cpl. Set hours, you can guess, I passed this one over very QUICKLY, and also informed them nicely that if they wanted truly good, top-notch, first-rate MTs (as their ads say), then they really have to come up with a few more CPL, that what they were offering for someone with a perfect score and all the experience was actually an insult. They nicely said okay, let us know if you change your mind. Yea, right............
A majority of at-home MT is overflow work with in-house getting the bulk of the work. If they clean

I worked for Keystrokes a few years back. There were some problems but was told they were working on
I had heard that before, too many times to count, so I left.

I came back 2 years ago and it was like night and day.

All of the old problems are gone. They blamed them on growing pains and never denied them. Instead they fixed them. They have my vote!
They require that you work in house until your have clean QA for 3 paydays then you can work

The coverage is perfect for me as all my doctors and my kids doctors are sm
in network. With WebMedx none of them were. The coverage is much better for me. My husband's company wanted to charge us $1470 per month for family coverage. There are three of us, so that would be $490 per month per person, which is insane.
Do you work for local doctors?
If you do, how many do you work for to make that kind of money?  Do you charge $.15/line?  Thanks.
I work for a group of doctors ...
that make up 5, and average 6 tapes a month ... that makes up about $800/month. The rest of my work is on word of mouth, and I do not charge by the line nor the hour, but rather by the length of time. I have never advertised, but I do get calls from practically all over the country to do medical transcription. As I said, none of these are for nationals. I have tried that route many many times, but to keep running out of work and constantly being switched from one account to another to another was nonproductive.
I get a bonus from the doctors where I work
And last year I just gave a box of candy (it's a small office).
Work in house
I currently work in house for a hospital in Maine who is going from pay per hour to pay per line
In-house work
I work for two hospitals directly as an employee. Both jobs I got after seeing their ads in the local paper, but would suggest to actually contact the hospitals in your area and inquire rather than wait for an ad.
Transcription Doctors? OK to work for? (see message)
Do they hire IC or employee? Decent work flow? Reasonable expectations? Is management/QA reasonably nice?
Is that In-House or you work at home?
?
Is it work from home or in house ...sm
in New York. That is a good job.
The Transcription House - Anyone work for them?
I have done a search on this forum for a company called The Transcription House and I cannot find anything on them.  Does any work for them or know anything about them that they would care to share?  Thanks in advance
I work for Keystrokes and have assigned doctors. I'm very happy. sm
I believe you can get overflow work if your doctor does not dictate on any given day, if there is any overflow work on that day.  My pay has always been on time.  I highly recommend them.
There are several. Are you lookin to work in-house or at home? nm

The rudeness on this board is why I won't work in-house. sm

In all the professions I have been in, I cannot believe how rude, condescending, and judgmental MTs are.  These boards are for helping each other to make wise career choices and sharing our input, not to go around being the spelling and grammar police and making people feel like they don't know what they are doing.  I am well respected in my job, have 100% QA ratings and don't belittle other people who make their errors here.  I think posters here need to spend less time being rude and more time thinking of how we can all help fellow MTs looking for advice.

The Ops could be staying in-house with the rest of the work being done by MW. nm

I work in-house at a local hospital...
And it's been pretty much famine conditions there, too. We're having to use our VH hours when we're called off for lack of work. I don't know where you're located, but I'm in central California. Perhaps it's a nationwide phenomenon for some reason.

Hang in there. The powers-that-be where I work keep telling us it's just temporary (although I'm preparing for the worst).

~hugs~
It's been pretty consistent for me, but I work for two companies and type several doctors
and even with that, sometimes it gets slow, and then when it picks up, it is really hectic.  It's so hard with this type of work to get it just right :)
No offense, but do you work at line rate in-house?
s
Sometimes in-house people will work the holidays since we're only
s
That is one of many reasons why I chose to work at home! No thanks to in-house! Good luck. nm

I was reading about the back up help. I would like also to have some back up work.
I am not getting anywhere near 12,000 lines this go around.  My goal is 12,000 lines each pay period.
You all have a point. I forget how this at-home thing works. I used to work in-house at a hospital.
and... we got paid extra for working holidays and even weekends and evenings. I am new to this at-home thing and it's pretty disappointing. I think I'm back to the hospital..
I was told Escription would not work with Vista. Turned out it wouldn't work with my sm
Office Basic Edition 2003 either, but no one could figure out why, it was supposed to.

There is actually a section on the Dell website that offers Windows XP. I haven't checked it out as I'm not in the market, so I don't know if it costs extra. I have a Dell and it's been fine for me. I hate the ESL tech department, but it seems like most of them have that now.
yes, but I was told as an IC that if work was slow ICs get no work since they are nto employees
nm
That'd me the day someone told me I HAD to work OT.

MDI-MD told me it would work now. nm

ICs being told when they can and cannot work

With being an IC, the only requirement I had was I had to commit to a certain number of lines per day and they had to be completed between 1:00 am-11:59 pm of any given day.  Some tried to pin me down to stating approximately what time I would be working daily, but since I am an IC and I cannot give an hour-by-hour commitment each day, I usually gave them a time frame of when approximately each day I would probably type the work such as anytime after 2:00 p.m. and before 11:00 p.m.  However, they do expect you to make your daily line commitment.

An IC CANNOT be told how to do her work. Would

IC cannot be told I need you to work between 1 and 5 but they can say I need these lines by

I was told I should be glad to work for 6 cpl w/ 5 yrs exp
I told her to off this job to someone in India.

Her response was she had people glad to work for 6 cpl with ONLY 5 YRS EXPERIENCE.

She should be able to afford ONLY 9 CPL . You would think anyway.

lol
You will be told that you can work remote,
And, there are a number of excuses that will be given as to the reason why. Pay is not toooooo bad. Would not go there. There are better jobs out there. Best of luck to you.
I was told there are no more accounts I can work on
and am getting sporadic work. I LOVE this company too, and they pay for down time which is incredible, but the work comes trickling in so I cannot claim no work, but it is just enough to keep me going.
Talking to IRS about how ICs are told to work
I wanted to let you know about what happened when I tried to talk to the IRS a few years ago about a fraud that I knew was happening, had all the information. This pertained to a woman scamming section 8, food stamps, welfare money (living with a guy with a city job yet claiming no money). Her children came to live with me for 2 years. I took total care, housing, food, etc. with no money from her. I claimed the kids on my income tax for those 2 years and come to find out her boyfriend also claimed the children on his taxes (remember when at home they were on all kinds of welfare and he probably was claiming them then- this is against the law and called double dipping). I got information from a tax preparer at my home, not mine, wanting to know if filing and called the place, found out he had claimed them in the past and then I contacted IRS. Oh, I also got notice from IRS that I was one of 2 filers who had claimed the kids!  I had all the social security numbers, names, birthdates, all that I needed. This scamming on their end went on for several years and do you think anyone interested or would talk with me? Nah, nothing. No one contacted me or their parent. When I see the rah-rah about turning these companies in I am reminded of what I tried to do with just wasting my time in the long run.
Where I work we were told we HAD to get our lines in - sm
So right now many of us have been camping out at the computers fighting for every line we can get.  Not sure I am going to last much longer at this pace.
When I asked about less and less work, I was told
that no MDI work is being done by Transcend because they have no access to the MDI platforms / clients. It was suggested that the economy may be taking its toll.
How do you get to work for both. Spheris told me it was conflict for me to have another job.
Especially with a national company. They wouldn't even talk to me about why I should leave MQ for them as long as I worked for their competition. How did you swing both jobs. I know MQ doesn't have a problem with me taking another position but Spheris was anal about it.
What?? they have asked you to work the account but never told you how much your pay is??
Sounds strange to me.. They would make me nervous as that should be the first thing they discuss.. or at least that is what I would want to know right off before I wasted my time with them.
