Gotta transition

It sounds like they are just setting up the transition to EMR. In theory there isn't much work that needs to be done except you don't have to print the reports and put them in a physical chart. This sounds like you are helping the company put all their old records into the EMR and get the new ones up and running...phrases like: cross training of new staff assigned and work with EMR implementation team with suggestions or changes; indicate you are helping them transition. It will be interesting to see how the MT job changes as EMR is more implemented - I'm scared as it is how VR is completely ruining the job!!

I'm in a transition from one to another...sm
so now only work for 2. My full-time and my part-time. I don't like giving up a sure thing until I have time to try out the new job and their platform. Once I am sure things are okay I then give notice and move on. Since becoming an MT I have always had to have 2 jobs, just because you never know if you are going to have work, downtime, etc. It has been a crazy two weeks trying to float all 3, but as of this week that is over. Yea.
Transition
I printed off my account specifics and the style guide and highlighted the important points, then reviewed it several times. I also pasted the style guide into MS Word and usually keep it up in the background while I'm working. The style guide and specifics for accounts can be accessed within Bayscribe as well. Bayscribe isn't hard to learn. It is missing a few features I'd like to have, but also has some features my other platform didn't.
I also use post-it notes to help me remember key formatting details, etc.
I had problems with my Expander transfer as well, possibly because I had entire reports in my old expansions and it just didn't transfer well, and ended up rebuilding my Expanders on my own, which did take a little time. Like the other poster said, I do know several people who had no problems with the expansion transfer, and tech support will help you with this.
Change is always scary, but I think you will be pleasantly surprised at the amount of support you'll receive from MDI.
Regarding MDI-MD and transition to VR
Yeah, it's a big change; however, it's called keeping up with the times. We're in the 21st century, the age of technology. As much as I enjoy standard transcription, I've done VR on a decent system, made decent money with it, and don't mind it.
MDI-MD resisted this as long as they could, until it no longer became practical what with every decent-sized account switching over to it. I knew it was a matter of time before MDI-MD really had no alternative, short of potentially losing many large accounts, to make the transition.
It's called progress. It's called keeping up with the times. *Shrug* I'm going to put on my 'big girl panties' and deal with it.
MDI-MD is a wonderful company with which to work. I've no doubt they will make this transition as seamless and pain-free for everyone involved, from the client to the MTs. They have a great reputation because they've EARNED it.
The way I see it, either suck it up and accept it and do your best with the transition, or start applying to other MTSOs that have no voice recognition.
But be prepared. Eventually everyone will be utilizing one VR system or another, so it's better to learn it now with a great team like the people at MDI-MD than wait until you're possibly stuck at another company that perhaps isn't so great and you're without a life jacket to drown.
Flame me if you wish. I intend to progress with the times rather than become expendable.
There's isn't a transition....
It's so funny because I worked in a hospital for 17 years and did anything and everything that came across. I landed two clinic accounts on my own simply because the doctors knew I did a good job. It's that simple. There is no clinic vs acute care. Clinic is just usually shorter files and the headings are a little different. Clinic is usually in letter format, but the terminology is all of the same across the board. Acute care can be many different dictators where clinic is whoever happens to be in that practice. It is basically all the same.
What is it like to transition to VR at TT
Does your pay decrease much at first, even with the training pay... what can be expected regarding short-term impact, and then long-term impact. Need to know from people who have already gone through this process, or are going through it now. Have to make some major financial decisions and need some reality check. If it is all good and no worry on finances, great... if pay decreases immediately, need to make some adjustments ASAP. Serious answers only please, this is a sensitive topic and a very important question to me and my family. Thanks in advance.
MT in transition
I have worked as both an IC and employee since 1968. (I'm an old grandma.) The smartest thing you can do is see a CPA before you switch to IC. S/he can give you information you need. Before you think you cannot afford a CPA, I say, you cannot afford NOT to see one to get set up. They can set things up so you get maximum tax advantage, etc. and so that you run your business like a business, which is what you will be if you are an IC. I consult with my CPA once a year and it has saved me enough to pay the CPA fees and have bucks left over. I personally would not IC it for under 11 cpl (which was what I was getting at MDI). Am now an employee for about 1 cent under that, but have terrific bennies package that more than makes up for it, not to mention lack of the ESLs. Make a list of the specific questions you have, book a session with a CPA (you want one who specializes in small business, not someone who is the accountant for huge corporations), and he or she can set you up. I wish you the very best of luck.
not a difficult transition
Having trained MTs from DQS to ExText I can safely tell you that it is not a difficult transition. There are many similarities and it is doable. Never be afraid to take a leap of faith, it could change your life. It changed mine.
They're in transition
Some are still on DOS, and some have been converted to their internet platform called Apex. It's a platform developed by Transolutions. I'll be on it in the next few weeks, so I can't give any first-hand feedback. DOS has been good to me (although it's very archaic), but I'm looking forward to the change. Otherwise, they're a great company to work for.
major transition
I just stopped working for them a couple of months ago and there is a lot going on. It is true that a lot of American QAs lost their jobs, but now the Indian team leads are losing their jobs and they are bringing in all American tead leads and management. I do not believe they are headed for bankruptcy, but just going through a major transition.
Can I transition successfully from
My rad account has left. I typed ER H&Ps several years ago. Medical Records I did 20 years ago. I am being given opportunity to go to account that is H&Ps, OPs, DSs, and everything else, it appears. My pay for the last five years was based on exam.
I will be going to per line, though the amount was not mentioned. It is my concern I may not be able to do enough work to keep my job (as I will be spending so much time acquainting myself with the phrases via internet searches) and as a consequence, have a considerable decrease in income.
How difficult is acute care, I guess is my question. I would hate to fail at this point in my old age.
Thank you.
Transition to acute care
Is there anyone out there has transitioned from radiology to acute care transcription?
I was hired by a company (I won't name) recruiter and was told that the account manager would be aware that I had not done acute care in a while and help me with the transition. I typed maybe 5-6 reports after 4 hours training on a platform I had never used before. Because I made mistakes on those 5 reports, I got scathing emails from the account manager and she wouldn't send me any more work and virtually fired me!!! I sent her an email telling her how there was some kind of misunderstanding!!! I thought there would be a period of training and positive feedback to help!!! Formatting was the only mistakes I made, no major grammatical or spelling errors!! Anyway, the recruiter finally answered my email and wanted me to call her...I feel so burnt I don't know if I want to fool with this company again. Opinions??? Anyone else have this happen???
As part of the transition team
you should be concerned. There are lots of MDIers with no work, too. WHERE is it all going?
I started the transition to KS before "mass exodus" sm
but just before and it sometimes required a bit of a wait before I got answers to certain things or equipment that I was supposed to get, etc. and sometimes it only happened after a follow-up email or call. However, I would usually get a pretty quick response from the followup. I don't know how big the staff is but I picture it as maybe medium-sized and I thought they were doing an excellent job of covering for each other during the move, vacations, and I believe someone even left the company. It is a 180-degree difference from what I had been used to with the Mega company I left.
I'm having a hard time believing the MDI-FL transition
was all that smooth. From the looks of it, there were lots of problems and people from MDI-FL felt the same way the current MDIers do.

I am new at TT and I just gotta say....
Thank Heaven! I finally found a place that has work! I have not even had to work on my secondary or tertiary accounts. Even with the holiday weekend, I still had more than enough work. It is a great place to work. I am so glad I found them. I barely made $600 a month at the last place I was at, I made that in a week at TT.
I gotta ask why?
I prefer multispecialty and I'm looking for a new job. Is it because the acute care reports are generally longer, i.e. d/s and h&p's, etc?
Ya gotta know this....
I just put People's Support Transcription in the search box. Did you know these posts show up on the web?
Take a look and you will see what I am talking about. Our posts are not exclusive to MT Stars web site! Just found out. Thought you would be interested.

TY so much; I gotta think about this one :)

Then I gotta say
you aren't very smart. A 501(c)3 would allow you to get and accept donations to feed those critters whether you took a salary or not. Animal (any kind) food isn't cheap and I know whereof I speak.
Well, I gotta say
I'm no happier about these changes than anyone else. I'm glad I never gave the extra help like so many others. I basically worked my lines and that was it. If I worked any extra it was because I wanted to, not because I felt I had to. When I left the Q, I decided to never give myself like that again.
I'm still here but I don't know for how long. I've been looking at other positions and trying to get a plan B and C in place. In addition to MTing, I'm also looking into a few office jobs that are going to be available soon in my area. I hate the thought of going back to work in an office and finding childcare for my kids in the summer, but I will not take a paycut for Transcend or anyone else. I also will not sit and wait for work. I didn't do it for MDI or MQ and I won't do it for anyone else.
I'm looking out for #1. That's what the MTSOs do, so that's what I'm doing. I don't really feel one way or the other about the merger. I don't like the fact that I'm looking at starting a new job, but that's life. It goes on with or without me and I prefer to be a part of it.
I gotta try that!
I didn't even know gourds were edible. We love eggplant parmesan which I make and freeze every year for ready-made dinners when I don't feel like cooking.
okay, whatever you say. Gotta go work!
Gotta say, though, it's more than what Softscript does!!!
Gotta Love OSi
I just have to brag up OSi. Haven't read much good here...just thought I would let everyone know that they have given their benefit package a huge boost this week. Full-time employees will now be receiving 5 cents extra per line on holidays and the PTO was just raised significantly also. OSi IS a wonderful place to work!

So I wonder what your turn over rate is for bringing on every and any MT who cheats per your standards...very low morals
Gotta new bulletin for ya
There is nothing 'petty' about these posts. And they aren't BS either. And you are prime example of MTSOs that don't, or won't, get it...
I used to be an MTSO so I'm well aware of both sides of the equation. The complaints here are legitimate - and the lurking MTSOs out there reading 'our' board would be wise to reflect on the message.
If you think for a New York second it's easy to be on our side of the street, think again. There is NO reason why these complaints should not be aired. IF they don't pertain to you, why are you so upset?
Something tells me he/she doth protest too much.
Gotta hand it to ya

just gotta put my 2 cents in . . . sm
I LOVED working for DSG, I agree with the poster who said about a year ago they went bad, actually they started earlier than that. But, my pay was NOT on time and was NOT correct and that is why I am no longer there. They messed up my direct deposit three times and expected me to wait for my paycheck. I asked them to overnight it and they were HIGHLY offended, did NOT want to go out of their way for it. Guess what happens when your direct deposit does not go in (without you knowing ahead of time), but all of your automatic payments go out????? What a mess. They are terribly rude, they micromanage, they get mad if you don't get your lines in (even when workload is low), but expect you to jump and type when the work does show up, no matter what time of day it is. What a joke. I LOVED them when I first worked there four years ago, AND, YES, when someone posted something negative, we did get a mass email asking us to defend our company. I remember it well and I was one of the first to do so. DSG is poorly, poorly managed. NOT a good place to work. How sad, too, I LOVED their platform, yes their dictators are quite bad, though. Okay, I'm done!!!
Did you say clinics? Then gotta be
bb
gotta agree
I'm going through that right now. I've had two suspicious tests with companies. One was extremely hard and poor quality. I felt like they were putting that one out as a test just to help themselves figure it out. It makes it really tough for someone who really needs work. I just lost a 10 year cardiology account to India, and I'm wasting all this time on bogus testing or tests that are not geared to the specialty advertised. When I see a cardiology job, it would be nice to have a test specific to cardiology, not family practice, orthopaedics or surgery. Yes, I know how things cross specialty lines. Duh, most people seeing a cardiologist also have other problems the doc talks about. Also, I'm not a doctor, and some of these tests ask questions that I just frankly do not need to know, especially at the pay rate they're advertising.
7 cpl for an Exp MT. You gotta be kidding
7 cpl? I'm looking for PT to supplement my income, but I'm not THAT desperate. How absolutely insulting...
Gotta ask what is MTOB??? nm
gotta say, I never knew him, but Dr.
Reeves was our local version down in galveston county. I did work for a neurologist in the scurlock towers. I think these are both retired now. I have to admit, it does not take much to make a person feel good about themselves. We had a radiology group at 2 local hospitals and after my husband died, I stayed home for about 4-5 years before going to work at the OTHER facility. They apparently were having a lot of complaints, so much so that 3 months later I got flowers from my boss because it was the first time they had not killed her in staff meeting that month over their dictation. In fact, they paid her a compliment. But the main one was walking into radiology that first day to pick up slips (we were on a dictaphone loop then) and the radiologist looked up and said thank God. The poor pathologist there had to train every girl they had ever hired. This was a smaller facility and they were kicking the other facility's butt with patient loyalty. In fact, I am glad I worked there and got to experience the small town flavor of it. Company picnics brought out everybody and none of the spouses complained about having to go, we all enjoyed it. Oh, those were the days, my friend. The cardiologist from India was the one I referred to earlier and such a sweet man. I grabbed the stat tape off of Dictaphone and automatically hit rewind and erase, got most of it, but the last one I could not understand. Managed to grab him as he was walking out and explained I needed him to redictate the last report and when he asked if I had equipment problems, I just told, no sir, I can't like to you, I totally screwed up and he said don't worry, I will go do it now. These guys were real people, I don't know WHO these are people are, some kind of laminites out of new billfold pictures or something!
You gotta be kidding me!!
How unscrupulous can these companies get? Yes, I have had no work available situations - then used up my PTO to get bills paid on time - then low work continued and lost my benefits with a company. Never heard of the slowing down the server tactic but I would not put anything past some of these companies. GREED by the MTSOs has turned being a loyal and conscientous MT and this profession into a disaster.
Gotta chime in here....
You were not wrong or naive or anything, screwee (I love that, btw!). I'm a fellow screwee, and you know what?
In spite of D selling us down the river(or across the ocean to be more precise), WE, the MTs, made that place what it was. We were the cream of the crop. We believed that propaganda about being a 'family' and it being 'our' company because we have the standards and work ethics that feed on that type of motivation. We take pride in our work. We take pride in our company. If THEY looked good, WE looked good.
To me, the attraction of MDI-MD to Transcend and the purchase thereof speaks volumes about how WE, the MTs, made that company shine and stand out, made it a cut above so many others. WE, with OUR hard work, made MDI-MD a shiny little star of an MTSO that Transcend wanted. And got.
My skills will no longer be used to promote MDI-MD or Transcend. I stopped working for them immediately. I will NOT participate in offshoring, and if I'm interpreting what I'm reading about Transcend correctly, they only plan to INCREASE their offshoring because of profits.
I want to offer you my congratulations, because you (and the rest of the MDI-MD team of MTs) were the brilliance that made the company great.
Now it's just another mediocre sellout, as it's losing all of its talent with this sale.
Gotta say something here about CB/Cranky
I hear/see where you're coming from. If I didn't know better, I'd swear CB was a Transcend corporate mole here to give us individual pep talks.
But the truth is, I've been following CB's posts for MONTHS now, ever since she first was heartsick to learn her company had been sold to Transcend and the trepidation she felt. I've followed her posts since then because I've usually found them to be informative and interesting.
I'm gonna step up and say nah, you're off base here. I believe everything CB says on here. I think she was very fortunate in that she got to stay on her account and so things just didn't change a lot for her. She has maintained this since she transitioned over in the TRS/Transcend merger. She didn't appear out of nowhere when the MDI-MD/Transcend takeover was announced...She's been around here for awhile and I, for one, take her posts completely at face value. I just don't believe she has any reason to misrepresent anything about her situation and I honestly think her intent in her posts is to let the newest victims of a merger know that her situation has, so far, worked out okay for her.
A random poster who I wasn't familiar with, I'd be VERY wary of right now.
But CB? Nah, she's just BTDT and she's being kind enough to take the time to share her personal experience with all of us, and I for one appreciate hearing her side of it.
Just gotta say Dannyboy .....

IC taxes - 25 K to IRS gotta be kidding
If this is the first year ever that you have worked you will need some preparation however if you worked last year as an employee and are going to make about the same, your deductions are the same, your marital status is the same you can go off of your last years tax returns. But if this is your first year you have ever worked, you will have to project what you will be making, take your deductions off of that and go from there. I suggest that you either go in and get some advice from an accountant or buy Turbo Tax and do an estimate of what you think you will be making. If you are married have your hubby overwithold as that was the easiest for me. However I disagree with the person who said that if you make 30K it is 30%, 50K it is 50% (25K to the IRS -- come on) as it all depends on what your deductions are, your marital status, etc. Too many variables to make such general statements. Besides the day that I pay half of my income to the government is the day I retire. I have a lot of deductions, no husband and I pay about 4 to 5% of what I make gross (over 60K) to IRS/State and that is with my 15% SS on my net income. Had a good accountant that set me up with my pension, my house deductions, my mileage, etc. for the first couple of years and then just went to Turbo Tax and followed his lead the last 15. All you have to do is to treat your net IC income as you were an employee and hold from that. You can get tax tables, etc from the IRS that would show you what to hold out,. But look for every deduction you can legally take and take advantae of it. Good luck.
I gotta agree with Lillybelle
MQ would be an awful place to get started. This is not the kind of business you can be left alone to do unless you already know what you're doing and quite frankly time and experience are your best allies for working at home. I've heard of a few companies who hire ppl with little or no experience but after working at MQ for 2 years I can honestly say MQ isn't one of them. You better know your stuff going in, cuz they won't help you other than offer to send you some sample reports which do almost nothing.
