Go to "tools," then "AutoCorrect" - on the first tab....

Auto Format as you type uncheck the automatic bulleted lists and automatic numbered lists. Then go to the AutoFormat tab and uncheck Automatic bulleted lists. Click Okay and that will cure your problem. Good luck!
