I am paid per minute
This is the first company I have worked for that pays that way. It seems fair enough, although that is largely dependent on the dictator! There are few I transcribe for and it takes me forever to do their reports, so at those times the per minute compensation isn't so fair, but it all averages out I suppose.
Paid by the minute????

Has anyone heard of being paid by the minute?  A company said they did that for the cardiology.

Anyone ever done that?

Paid by the minute...

I am paid 1.20 per dictated minute. First company I have ever worked for that paid this way.

I had a job that paid by minute
I started at $1.15 per minute and when I left, was making $1.20 per minute. I could do 150-180 minutes in 6 1/2 hours.  It was very lucrative for me. It was for a small hospital. Loved it, but got bored with the same doctors every day, so left. Now I work for a national and only make 1/3rd what I was making, but am happy with the work. Just wish the pay was better.
I am paid by the minute....
and probably average between $15-20 an hour; however, so much depends on who the dictator is, etc.  I mainly do op reports and have become fairly accustomed to the dictators, but there are a few that everyone on the account will always have difficulty with and they take longer to transcribe.
I get paid 8 cpl with 1 minute = 10 lines

Getting paid by the minute of dictation -
xx
I made that much being paid by the minute sm
but that's it. I don't know anybody who makes that kind of money getting 8-10 cents a line. I wish it were true, I'd be rich.
I wish my primary paid by the minute...
No one ever seems to know what they are talking about on that account and they take FOREVER to get through a report. Some dictators will take 15 minutes to dictate a 50-line report because they are shuffling through papers looking up things or just saying umm..duh.. I also have one dictator who will repeat things constantly, sometimes repeating the same sentence 3 times! I'd be making about $5 more per hour if I were paid by the minute... This wouldn't be a good deal on my secondary account though. There are a bunch of fast talkers and mumblers on that account.
Anyone here get paid by the dictated minute?

How do you figure that out to know whether you are making decent money?

Was paid by the dictated minute at my last job...sm

...lost my a**.  Company started out at $1/dictated minute and gave a 10% raise after off QA.  Somehow it took 5 weeks and a lot of screaming to get off QA .  Left when they popped up with a new contract that would have cut my pay even more.  Rip-off.

New job, off QA after 3 jobs.

Anyone have a good average for getting paid by the minute?
I have never worked this way so what is a good rate for cents/audio minute?
The company I worked for paid by the dictation minute as well. They said sm

that was the only way to know what you had transcribed, since there is already so much information there.  If I remember correctly, it was something like Meditech where you are typing in the patient's actual chart.  It didn't work out to be very profitable for me, but perhaps this company has a better system.  The company I worked for was MedTran Unlimited or something like that.  I was only part-time, but I wouldn't recommend them to anyone.  After a few days, I realized it wasn't going to work out for me and so I gave my notice, and so they didn't pay me for the training or any of the work I had done.  I haven't read anything bad about MD-IT, so they might work with you and make it worth your while.

Good luck.   And thanks for the compliment on my doggie -- she is very much my baby.

do you find being paid per the minute pays better than per line pay rate?

Thank you so much for your help!

work with here for a minute
I think there is some offshoring going on.  Last week there was no work for days.  I have seen this before in another company.  All of a sudden, come the weekend, there was over 500 minutes of backlog on one of my accounts.  Where was that work that it got so seriosly backloged to that extent?  Do not believe it is because some MTs are off on the weekend.  India is 12 hours exactly opposite us.  Their Sabbath starts on Friday.  I looked at the time of dictation.  If MTs are babysitting their computers to wait for a crumb, why would this work be so seriosly backlogged?  Where was it that it now being dropped in our laps to improve TAT?  I thing she is offshoring, but that is just my opinion.  I also thing she is trying to get rid of the older employees that she feels makes too much money.  She makes reference to the line higher line rates that she pays in her e-mail.  Well, she will only get what she pays for.  It used to be that MDI was thecream of the crop company to work for and only hired cream of the crop.  Her MTs are now the wind under her sails.  Will she continue to fly with this kind of secrecency?  Sorry about my spelling.  The way she is dealing with her MTs is like trying to build in the future a submarine with a screendoor; it simply will not float or fly.
You are not supplying work right this minute but you will be soon
Don't you think we are sharp enough to know you train them first, get a US-based account and then outsource to them? Why the heck else would you be training them? US MT skills are not needed for them to do their own local accounts!!
So you are supposed to work until that minute like nothing is wrong? sm
Do they really expect everyone to just say OK and carry on as usual until that time? They're nuts.

I gave 2 wks notice as IC and I had to work to the very last minute. It sucked.

they are constantly out of work. Will show 40 jobs and a minute later none.
nm
1.70 regular minute, 2.25 stat per minute. sm
I do all cardiology.
Just a minute here chickie. There is work at Webmedx and plenty more coming on board. SM
Maybe if you had more than one account to transcribe, you, too, would have work. Don't spread lies on this board please. It is not nice.
Ever thought of a home health care aide? Usually paid training and start work right away. Can work
m
You have to work 3 of the big 6 holidays. For those that you work, you are paid
time and a half. For those that you do not work, you can either get paid by using PTO or they are treated like normal days off (for which you are not paid). Sometimes, they will even pay double time for the big holidays if there is a lot of work on the system. I've found them to be exceedingly fair.
Does that mean that you work for MDI-FL and your paid 9.5 there?? Thanks
nm
I did some work for them and NEVER got paid
They are unreasonable, giving their editors 10+ accounts to be in charge of, and they, in turn, give the MTs the work to do.  Therer are so few MTs that they get about 400 minutes to type each day.  They dont pay but like 7 cpl if you're lucky, and they work you to death.  They sonorq (like msn messenger) you to death too, and they just plain out lie about raises, etc.  Like I said, they never paid me even.
Don't work for DIT if you want to get paid!
Two out of three paychecks have bounced so far.  It seems they write checks with no money to cover them.  I hereby take back all the nice things I had said about them being nice people to work for.  Nice people do not bounce paychecks.  Getting paid from them has been the worst experience I've ever had with any employer.  I can't believe they bounce paychecks like they do.  As of today, I'm done.  This is a warning to others, don't let my experience be yours.
paid less for p.r.n. work
I'm feeling confused about why the MT business seems to pay less per line for p.r.n. work than part-time or full-time work.  Out in the world where people do not stay at home, a premium is usually paid to temp services or to employees who agree to be available on a p.r.n. basis.  Is it just my experience with certain companies?  I would like to hear any thoughts on why this is true in this industry or if your experience has been different.  I am beginning to feel dirty for asking for p.r.n. work.
Another day of no work. They must get paid
a lot to sell the Americans short on work.
Were you also not paid for the work you did?
If I'm tracking this thread correctly, that would make you MT #4 that worked but was not paid.

This is alarming, to say the least.
paid if you work
x
There is no way I would work for anyone who did not pay me. If I get paid every 2 weeks, then..
the first time my check is more than a couple days late, they can forget it. You can bet they are getting paid by their clients. Who do they think does the work. The MTs should be paid above all else. I would give them a date that they had to "overnight" by check by or I'd file a company with a labor board, BBB, anyone who will listen. These companies get away with it because no one stands up for themselves. I do the work that is asked of me and I expect to be paid one time. No one should except any less than that. Good luck to you and nail them right where they stand on this one!!
I can work all I want, but don't get paid overtime. I don't
have to clock in so I don't know how they would know how many hours I worked anyway.
I work them now..always been paid on time
and the changes that might be coming
You do not get paid for holidays unless you work them. sm
You do have to work 3 of the 6 recognized holidays. One of those has to be either Christmas or Thanksgiving. If you work Christmas one year, the next you have to work Thanksgiving. If you do not work on the holiday, you have to use PTO if you want to be paid.
I don't work OT and when I do, it is paid at OT rates, which is the same as sm
holiday rates or 1-1/2 times my regular rate.

You keep saying this but do not back it up. Call the office and talk to Karyn; she will look into it and make sure that it is done. They cannot pay what they do not know. What department do you work for (ortho? B4? Rad?)

Actually, no. Most people would get paid at work!
xx
Can you elaborate? Do you get paid on time? Do you have enough work? sm
Are you radiology or acute care? What kind of problems?
Umm, I am paid every other Friday, on time. Work
x
They asked me to work OT every week, NEVER paid
any OT, did not get raise after 90 days.  They said I would but it never happened.
Well, seems to me if you work you dont get paid eithr - sm
I do understand the dilemma, but honestly, start looking for a job that does pay during this period.  I know of many companies that unfortunately play games with your pay and I've been watching one do this for five years now and remarkably he is still in business because while he does eventually make good on his promise to pay, he wreaks havoc on those who work for him constantly.  People like this should be shut down, but as long as his contractors keep playing along with him, he will continue.
I didn't work on gov't account but not paid either
Five months and counting now. Lies told to me were, pay you when I get paid, pay you next week, pay you Saturday. Still no check though.
I didn't get paid, but work as been so low, my check won't be much anyway. :( nm

I did some work ON MY TIME helping them and Rebecca never paid me either.
Bad way to run a company.
call attorney general and do not work until paid
that is BULL
First rule, never work for a company who says "I'll pay you when I get paid." sm
This is unacceptable. Any company with a decent client base gets paid at least net 30 days. I previously operated a small service and paid my subcontractors twice monthly despite being paid net 30 days by my physician groups. Yes, it was a hardship for me, but I brought those who worked hard to help me maintain my service first. Any company who pays their workers when they get paid, does not deserve to employ others. Plain and simple there is no excuse for this. Please, please find a company who values your work instead of using you.
No work, no paid downtime, bennies might leave...
.
of course men don't work for free; and they typically get paid better than women
and they are definitely jerks - all of them - they suck and they know it, and we are not impressed
If your hired at an hourly rate and you run out of work, then you dont get paid anything??
Just saying, you worked a total of 3 hours one day, ran out of work for two hours, then for that day you only get paid 3 hours? That would suck and it wont pay my bills.
Thats Right its not breaking any codes to tell the hospital that you didnt get paid for the work. nm
k
Apparently, they have contracted with India to work some accounts as they are getting paid less on
these accounts. Obviously, labor is cheaper in India. So, they have to send the work where they can afford to. I know I'm done with them. Pretty soon, there will be no jobs left because these hospitals apparently want cheap labor. You get what you pay for is all I am saying.
Unbelievable! I work for Transtech and got PAID maternity leave! Some of these
companies need to take a lesson from them.
