No, not boring - flipping burgers is boring!
    Be grateful to be working!
Have to agree with Not for Me ... their pay is incredibly low. sm

As long as people continue to accept jobs like that just because there is an abundance of work (probably an abundance because they can't get enough people to work for substandard wages), then companies like that will keep offering low pay.

Good companies will pay you what you're worth AND provide a steady work flow.  You might want to look around -- you're worth more, I'm sure!

    Yes! Running incredibly slow! nm
    ffffffoooooo
    Transcend is so incredibly disorganized.
They need to get their act together before they buy another company. Nobody knows what the other is doing, poor communication all around.
Free enterprise. You are free to re-educate and retrain, as well!!!!
    What's the complaint?!

Their system is incredibly slow based on
where your ISP routes servers.  They have overhired big time and in the last 90 days had only 1 week where I actually got in all my hours, even working off days and different shifts.  Plus that clocking in and out is a pain and you work 10 hours just to get 8.  They dangle the incentives in front of you but with their lack of work and slow system you have to work like heck to get the 150 lph minimum.
If you think I'M a bully you're incredibly naive
There's nothing remotely bullying about my post. I stated my opinion. You post on here asking for opinions and I gave you one. It just wasn't the self-serving opinion you were seeking assuring you that you did the right thing.

Yes, perhaps you did the right thing for you by turning that job down; but if you're so happy where you're at, why are you wasting the time of MTSOs and perhaps pushing other MTs out of the running so they can spin their wheels with you? Also, about 98% of these posts on the job seekers board indicate when a weekend day will be required; you should have known going in when you applied apparently just out of curiosity that a weekend day would be required.

Sorry, but I'll leave you to your God and your family and your ability to pick and choose 'wonderful' job offers.

I'm just glad another MT will get a shot at this job who realizes people do indeed need reports transcribed on the weekend, and I certainly hope your God is on standby if a loved one ever needs a critical care transport and all reports transcribed and ready to go, because if the staff is a bunch of MTs refusing to work weekends, it could be a real inconvenience to have to wait until Monday for the official transcribed documents to be completed and faxed.

    I'm done here...
I left, too. Incredibly picky account rules. No $$.

I always think that the topic of my e-mail must imply that I am incredibly stupid

Get over yourself - being an MT is boring
Glad I don't do it anymore.
    Ditto! Can you say boring!!
    But, we are getting paid.
I have a boring last name, and when I was in school I always - sm
secretly wished a had a long, difficult to spell-and-pronounce last name, just so I could sit there and watch the teachers stumble over trying to pronounce it.
Not another TT rumble. How boring.
    nm
It can be boring at times...but it's a job...
it's not necessarily supposed to be fun and exciting...it pays the bills just fine for me
    About that boring part...
I would bet my next paycheck (and it is a decent sum) that you are the type of person who punishes others when you are bored. Bored with your marriage? Have an affair and make your hubby pay the price. Bored with your kids? Ditch them at the mall and make them pay the price. Bored with your friends? Yawn during conversation and offend them.

Life is not supposed to be free entertainment. Get over YOUR self.
Every job gets boring at some point. nm
    x
    Now you're just boring me
You are closed-minded and refusing to absorb any other opinions other than your own. You and others like you will unfortunately find yourselves out of this profession in the very near future, and it will be of your own choosing.

I can't speak for other editors here, but if the MT is awake and alert and editing reports, your argument about compromising patient care is just ludicrous. A proficient, skilled MT will not jeopardize patient care any more through editing than he/she would through standard transcription.

You've made up your mind. I'm not going to attempt to reason with you further.

You're only hurting yourself by refusing to learn and that's quite frankly your choice.

    *shrug*
    Lots of boring discussions!
What kind of toothpaste do you use? What is the weather like where you are? If you could be any animal, what would you be? What is in your purse? These are just a few examples of the ridiculous discussions that have been held on that board!
Name just 1 job that doesn't get boring at some point. nm

Many times the truth is both boring and painful.
Time to wake up and admit that to yourself.
that place is sooo boring; who posts there?
jobs there.  I think Spheris also has job ads there...
I am in a pool... see inside for the boring details :)
When I started with TRS I was a 36-year clinical-only MT, and the reason I took the job with TRS was, among other things, the fact that they offered to up-train me into acute care. (In fact I applied at Transcend just before I applied at TRS and they said no thanks, don't call us and we won't call you, and they wouldn't even let me TRY the freakin' TEST, so I find it mildly amusing that now they've got me anyway.)

But I digress. Anyway... at first I was assigned to a somewhat-limited pool on a large hospital account (an account that was brand-new to TRS and in fact I think we stole it from 'the Q') and all I was doing to start with was discharge summaries and letters. Well, once I got used to all the different voices, I started begging for at least some consults and H & Ps because even though I had only done 'clinical' before, I had done literally thousands of excruciatingly-detailed consults and H & Ps for internal medicine, hematology-oncology, orthopedics, and a few others I can't think of right now, over the years.

Then, apparently because I could actually do the work (plus I got kicked off the usual 1-month mentoring full-QA program after only 10 days, because it was mostly a waste of their time to full-QA me), they started trying me on another account, which I was later told was the VERY HARDEST account TRS had in its inventory, and before long I was in the 'all-work pool.'

So now the 'hard' account is my primary, the original account (still with only discharge summaries and letters) is my secondary, and I also have a tertiary (which fortunately I don't get hit with very often because it has REALLY CRAPPY sound 'quality', scratchy phone lines or something) on which I seem to be on just consults, progress notes, discharge summaries, and H & Ps.

I am told that the 'goal' at Transcend is to have everyone working something like 80% on their primary account, with the other 20% on secondary and tertiary, with no more than 3 accounts (except perhaps in extraordinary circumstances), mostly so there would be fewer account instructions to keep track of.

I can't find out how many physicians practice at the hospital that is my primary account (short of manually counting them) but it is a 350-bed hospital where they do pretty much everything. Just on a rough guess, there might be around 100 dictators I run into. A certain number of RNs and PAs dictate in addition to the doctors.

They keep me on that 'hardest' account because I am actually pretty good at deciphering most of it. Of course there are a couple of real 'problem children' still, and they usually have as many blanks after QA gets done with them as they did when I gave up on them, so that makes me feel better.

Not only that... our people are very proactive about actually talking to the clients to try to resolve problems. One of the worst dictators was just recently talked to and she has gotten a whole lot better. I e-mailed the liaison to report that, and asked them to please pass the word along that this doctor's dictation had indeed gotten a lot better and we, the poor saps at the other end of that phone line, really and truly appreciate her efforts....

Anyway. I had better get back to the work that is actually available this morning....

Anything else anybody wants to know, just ask, and I'll try to answer as best I can. :)
This drama NEVER ends! It is SOOOOOO scary, and so boring at the same time!
Now Lee will come on, with an empassioned plea to please call her, and yada, yada, the misunderstandings. This person left, or that person left, or now a new bolt of lightning. It is getting ABSURD to have this regurgitated at least weekly on this board!  Same old, same old. I would NEVER work for Keystrokes, and can't imagine anyone falling for this saga and applying.  Something is VERY wrong in KS land.
Free sure. There are free on-line fax

services, in fact I used one last week.   Most do have limits on how often you can use and how many pages though.  You obviously would have to scan pages into a document, but maybe she doesn't have a scanner either.

She could have mailed paperwork back.

Ditto that! Psych is soooo boring. Feel bad for people and their many problems, but not
    s
    Yes, it is free.
They told me that I would get a discount with steadman's and Dell, but they never said that I would have to buy anything. The only thing they said was that I would have to provide the home type of equipment (i.e. Internet, computer, foot pedal, and software for listening to the files. I received the same things you mentioned above too.
The only one I know of that is free
is Emmaus' MedCount . . . they have a link to this site and advertise here, and the company offers other software programs for sale that are designed for transcriptionists, but the line counting software is downloadable and free.
    Here's the web site: http://www.mpword.com

I was unable to use the free program above . . . I had used it before, but on the computer I bought last summer, for some reason it would not work, so I purchased The Abacus.

I have seen a couple of times people posting about The Abacus being a free program, but I had to pay for it. Seems like they may offer a free trial for a certain period of time or number of usages, with limitations during the trial, but then if you do want the program you pay and they give you a code that enables the full program.

The web address for The Abacus is: http://www.theabacus.biz/theAbacus.htm

FREE AT LAST, FREE AT LAST!

    Buh bye OSI!!!

I will miss all the good MT's there but at least I will be getting paid for holidays from now on.  Maybe, just maybe the good MT's still there will be right behind me.  Or maybe not, and you can enjoy your little mug of candy for Christmas.

    Yes!  Yes!    Yes!  Yes!

I think most use it because it is free and can
be used w/o a pedal if you had to.  I have used their tests with other software though.  I've never had trouble downloading files, you can right click and save to a file.   I think they companies have always provided instructions on how to save the files too.
No 1 MAKES ME do anything. Have free

All 40,000 others are free to post as often as they like also.

    Is Turbo Tax free? (sm)
WebMedX has a list of required reference books you have to get.  I'm sure I spent at least $100-$150 on them.  I ordered them from amazon, so the receipt should be easy enough to get.

The debate is whether to do my taxes myself or go to H&R Block.  The last couple years I had someone else do my taxes 'cuz I had a part-time IC job and deducted my phone line charges.

Hell, I could probably deduct my DSL bill this year, I suppose...
the free one does not count
    ,
    Testing isn't free either

It costs us 10.00 for every applicant we test online.  Out of 50 people I might refer who look promising, about 80% will get to the actual transcription part and say I couldn't finish, it wouldn't let me when the actual qualified people have no trouble whatsoever.

How many of you get the emails with the cover information not spellchecked?  I get them that say I am very qulity conscience.  I got one from a lady who worked in the surgical stockroom of a hospital and was furious when I told her that didn't qualify her to be an MT.  I had a welder who wanted something different,  several from people claiming to be med students or doctors, one dentist in an extremely remote part of Alaska.   I get stories of I have children and I'm about to be evicted and I quit my job.   I get my hospital went bankrupt and closed (yet the phone number still works).   I can advertise for ops and get people asking for an ER account.  I needed an Editor for a particular work type and had a lady apply who said she had 18 years experience so I let her try to edit a document.  I would have had to hire somebody else just to edit her work!!!  It really makes it hard for the experienced people because it's like we've heard it ALL...so you don't know who is good and who isn't!!!

Do you know what the right of free speech is?
It does not apply to private company matters, etc.

    Geez.

Well, when you're free of them, please
    .
Where can you get this free trial? nm

working for free?....don't think so. sm
Look, it all comes down to getting paid. Doing their work for free isn't doig yourself a favor, just them. What did the contract agreement say that you signed? I would fax that portion back over to her and give her a date you expect to be paid. Losing invoices? More than one? Come on girl, this is a big red flag to me.
    Don't you work for free?
I'd be nice to you too if you were making me all that money for a little info that you should have got in school.
    it's friday free-for-all! Hoo-ha! nm

guildftp is free I think sm
Someone had posted before some free FTP sites.  Not all cost per month.  Some are a mere $6.00 per month.  It is to keep documents safe, and you'll need a password.  You can also store voice files there.  HIPPO is $39.00 per year I think and easy to use.
Sounds like they might be trying to get free
work done.  Ten pages is excessive and I wouldn't do it.
Regardless, it is work done for free.
It's horrible that one would think that we should not get paid for any work/data that is entered by us, whether it be 1 or 10 keystrokes.  It is my time and I am not doing it for free.
What do you mean work for free?
Maybe I should specify that when I stated dock I meant QA score being docked.  Maybe you were thinking money/pay??  LOL
unless you like to work for free
stay away due to the recruiter and the company as a whole unless you like to work for free...just do a search and you will read plenty of negatives on this shameful company and all of their affiliates.
    Still Stress-Free...

Some of us still enjoy stress-free living w/o a care in the world.

    We never had kids! (LOL)

More money + more peace and quiet = Stress-free living forever!

What about MT Desk? They are free and very
    nm
Yes, if she actually wants work, free or otherwise,
most indeed count, then an MT will have resume, advertisement, whatever free of errors. As someone who did a lot of hiring, I can tell you that if there was even one so-what error, as you say, the resume was passed over. If you can't proofread something as important as a resume or request for work, then it's hard to fathom you will proofread medical reports any better. I hope she took the advice and watches more carefully next time, rather than listen to advice that it doesn't matter.
Exactly. You should never work for free.
Our industry is bad enough for newbies without starting a trend wanting them to work for free....
If it's free, I'd do it just to make sure sm
I'm following all the rules and I'd probably learn new ones (to me) while doing it.
It's amazing how much we do for free
these days, isn't it. In the old days, we were paid for EVERYTHING, templates, headers, footers, demos, etc... and even better with gross lines. Sigh :(
