most supervisors okay, couple aren't, like everywhere. It's an okay company...certainly not great.

DVI or high speed internet?
Well, this kind of depends on other factors as well.  Our hospital has used SoftMed for a long time.  Those living within the phone line area were fine with the DVI system.  However, now they are upgrading and it requires a high speed internet. So if you cannot get that where you live, or the direct phone line service, it could be a problem.  Hope for the best for you.  I am not so lucky.  I cannot get DSL where I live. :(
you don't need high speed internet to use an FTP--sm
you can use dial up connection and still use FTP. However, you DO need high speed internet in order to use some companies online platforms, typing into their systems.
It's just like any other high-speed internet. sm
I work for Medquist and it works great. I have had regular DSL and it's every bit as fast. My dad has cable and it's only a smidgeon faster; even my dad is impressed with my ISP. The only drawback is, it is expensive. My package costs $80 a month.

It's not available in many places yet. Until it showed up, I was stuck using satellite, which was terrible for my platform (DocQscribe) because of latency and I can see why some companies won't allow it (although it worked okay and was much better than dial-up).

You can search national ISP databases (just Google ISP and your city) BUT...they're not always up-to-date. I heard about mine because we received mailings that it was available but my ISP wasn't in any database anywhere. What I would suggest to you is find the most well-known computer store in your area (preferably privately owned instead of Best Buy, etc.) and ask them if they know of any in your area. They're usually pretty savvy.

However, if there was one in your area, you probably would have received a mailing or a visit; they want to get the word out.

Satellite is available just about everywhere but again, most companies won't allow it.

The purpose of my original post was to rid companies of the outdated notion that cable and DSL were the only reliable, fast ISPs out there. It's 2007, not 2001 and technology has moved past the old cable/DSL monopoly.

If you can get fixed wireless (not the kind at Starbucks, for example, which is not secure and not fixed) I would get it. I simply love it.

Best wishes to you.

Most misunderstood high speed ever!
Debbie, if you're referring to the high-speed broadband received with antenna and directed to router, there should not be any problem working for those companies that require DSL or cable. I have same system and have worked for several DSL only companies. The real problem is that it is not a very common method of receiving broadband and I find many techs have never even heard of it. However, it is not susceptible to the problems common to other wireless systems, it's much more stable. I just tell them I have DSL broadband and have never had a problem with setup or use, and have worked for TT with same system, no problem. Hope this helps!
need IC status and can't get high-speed access..sm
I need to find a company that will hire IC and using dial-up (can't get cable or DSL in my area).  I have over 20 years experience. Any suggestions would be appreciated. Thanks
Vonage uses your DSL high-speed lines.
Doesn't affect your local service at all and won't replace it, either. It's the same concept as having your DSL and regular phone service.
I have found that high-speed is the norm and if SM
you can use satellite or dialup, they will specifically state so in the ad.
There are a few accounts that do not need high speed. I am on one. It is clinic.
Best bet is to send it in anyway and be up front about it!
I work on one that does not need high speed but have been told sm
that there are very few like that.
They told me that high speed was mandatory. sm
I think that most hospitals require it of the services now. Some programs don't work with dial-up.

Not many companies use dial-up anymore.

Their new program utilizes high speed internet
so you no longer need unlimited LD, just a foot pedal.
The reasons companies require high-speed

internet can vary, even if you can download via FTP.   It seems like a lot of companies use a platform now where you have to be on-line while you work as you are typing live into their system.  Other companies may have only a couple of lines to be able to download so they want you to have high-speed to make it quicker.   If the company has an FTP you aren't accessing a phone line and can download even at a very slow dial-up speed.

I've seen companies advertise and say you need a C-phone and a high-speed connection.   I don't know that just because a company may have an FTP site for you to download that it will eliminate the need for high-speed depending on what their platform is.

Will companies allow AT&T high-speed internet via satellite? (no msg)

Many hotels are offering free high-speed wireless now.

I've seen some of the major chains also have rooms setup for professional people where they have jacks for whatever equipment.  Starbucks, Barnes and Noble, Panera Bread have free or low cot wireless, truck stops have low cost/free wireless.

If you are staying in a campground many campgrounds (at least the bigger ones or ones in larger cities) are going wireless, but most at least have some type of central location where you can use dial-up.

If you know where you are going you can check the chain hotels in the area and find out if they have wireless.  There are sites that tell you where hot spots are - if you Google open hot spots you'll probably find it.

It isn't near as hard as it used to be to get connected, just takes a bit of planning.   If you are on the road for along period and want to work going down the road if you are using a wireless card it will have a light that comes on when you hit a hot spot or you can get a hot spot finder for $20.00 or less.  I have one but it only searches for about 5 minutes and then I have to push the button again.  But this would allow you to pull over in a parking lot and download/send work.

There are other options available, but aren't cost effective unless you travel frequently.

It's very slow. If you have any tips on speed,
nm
The download speed is not consistent, can be as slow as

dial-up at times.  I had it for a year so I know.   Satellite is also not secure, so if company is 100% compliant with HIPAA satellite would not be allowed.

I had lots of problems with my satellite, though I was never without for more than a day.  Customer service was the absolute pits.  They have since updated some of their equipment that is suppposed to eliminate some of the issues.

my instruction sheet says 222 for for slow, 333 for speed.
nm
That's way high, it's been so slow, not many making $500 a week right now...

The Enterprise side uses Enterprise. nm

I'm high level 4, all acute care, high ESL, many years exp. and highest QA grades...
In case you are wondering...All acute care, all specialties. I request new accounts, and yet they all run out of work...not just during usual slow periods...
I'm original poster and a high level 4 as well with high ESL accts, which I've always had...sm
My accts (10+) for the previous 12 years were all in the LA area. I consider ESL at Webmedx easy, even though my WebmedX accts are supposed to be high ESL. ALL of my STMs accounts are low on work--quite low. I've added more accounts. Not helpful if all are low in work. My supervisor at MQ was more helpful than my Webmedx STM.
Global Transcription IS a nice small service, has a good rep. Superior Global has Indian conn-
s
They are not MT, but general transcription. Pay not very high. at least not as high as MT work.x

Depends on the account. Work on VR lately has been slow. Just like all companies, we have slow times

Honestly though, I have only had 2-3 times in the past 2 years where it was like the other day...no work... It did pick up later but I just think it's important not to make someone think we're overloaded with work all the time. That would not be fair to them if they end up with high expectations.

No - it is not always slow! Depends on the company and hospital. I have never been slow this time
Slow time is usually in September when everyone is back to work/school from the summer months.

Been doing this 24 years and never slow this time of year. Actually, I am drowning in work - can't keep up.
Enterprise. NM
x
As far as I know they are Enterprise
All my accounts are Enterprise, and my supe mentioned the new accounts, so I assumed these were.
Enterprise
I like it much better than ChartMatrix. I was asked to help out on ChartMatrix from time to time and Enterprise is easier to work with.
Enterprise Platform
Does anyone here use the Enterprise platform and if so, is it fast?  Using DocQScribe and moving to Enterprise - can anyone compare the 2?
Enterprise Slowness
Any other Webbers out there spending half or more of their time waiting on screen changes, etc.  I'm about to throw this thing out the window.  My line counts are  suffering!!  AND it is only Enterprise.  Everything else is plenty fast!
Enterprise - My accounts are in OT right now.
x
At Webmedx, Enterprise does this. nm

chartmatrix vs enterprise
Anybody know the difference in these 2 platforms and which is better?
Enterprise has been great for me s/m
I've never had any document disappear, and I really like Enterprise. Occasionally slow, but I have attributed that to my internet service, because when Enterprise is slow, so is everything else on my PC that is on the net. Enterprise is easy to use, IMHO.
Webmedx, Enterprise
I do Radiology on Enterprise for Webmedx and run out of work on a daily basis. I enjoy working on Enterprise, there is just not enough work. I also work on Chartmatrix, but prefer Enterprise.
I'm on the Enterprise platform
They had me use their computer. I have the family insurance, including medical, dental, and vision. I do approximately 9000 to 10,000 lines a week when work isn't slow (which isn't often on my 2 accounts) or I'm not dealing with any sick kids (this winter has been AWFUL).
yes it's Enterprise I meant
I have worked a little bit on ChartMatrix, that is not as good.
Enterprise and ChartMatrix
I only work on the Enterprise side, so I can't tell you about the ChartMatrix side. I think Enterprise is about the easiest system I have come across as far as ease of use, as long as you don't mind using your cntrl and alt keys a lot (you do not have to get headers from a drop down list). I don't know what you mean by demos, but we have normals (both physician and MT created) that we can insert by using cntrl N to pick from a list or cntrl M to enter the code. I use ShortHand with no problems on this platform. They also allow instant text, though I have never used this program, so don't know how it works.

This is not a word based program. I have worked on a lot of different platforms, and this is one of the easier ones IMHO.
Escription/Enterprise
Anybody worked with both Enterprise and Escription.  Which is better?
Are you on CM or Enterprise? I'm finding sm
that it makes a huge difference if you are on CM platform - they seem to have weird rules.
do you know something about the Enterprise side
that we don't, in regards to there being no work here, I mean?  really bad today.  I keep getting NSA well into afternoon and that rarely happens...
Chartmatrix or Enterprise?

Enterprise vs. Chartmatrix at WMX
my STM sent out a notice that said Chartmatrix work was going to become available if we were willing to switch to that platform and had problems running out of work on Enterprise.  before I respond I thought it might be a good idea if any chartmatrix MTs out there gave their 0.02 about the platform and the amount of work that's really available.  how do things look on your side?  tia
radnet/enterprise
I worked for Webmedx for about 15 months. They pay by line and the account I worked on used RadNet but we used enterprise for the voice files. It was a lot of switching back and forth between programs though I got pretty fast with the quick keys. Actually, they couldn't count lines in Radnet so it was by minutes, now that I think about it. I had to quit the job because I spent most nights refreshing and waiting for work that never came. I just started a new job, no radiology involved but still I'm liking it much more. There was talk about going to VR with PowerScribe and I didn't look forward to that because I worked with it in the past. I have to say, I don't like editing VR at all. I can see how the docs would want to edit their own but some the VR transcribed so poorly it would be like them typing the whole thing for themselves which I could never seeing the docs doing...lol.
I like Enterprise but I have good ISP connectivity. sm
SH is okay; I'm used to it. IT will work but is not supported by the tech staff. LOTS of work, esp if you are an acute-care person. If you have crappy Internet, Webmedx is not the best place for you.
How was the platform? Enterprise sucks
big time.  E-mail said TransHealth had a good platform and they would take the best of both.
And I work Enterprise accounts
So this whole thing is just really strange.
I know enterprise is a clunky old thing
but some people like it. It is rather slow too and hangs up at times. What's really the worst is when you click to submit your document and it disappears and you have to do it over. It was a real pain to me when I used it. On the other hand, the tech support people were very nice. I don't know anything about chartmatrix.
2 platforms, Enterprise and Chartmatrix. sm
I only use Enterprise. It is somewhat Word-based. It's quite easily to use, although it do use some improvement, like all things I suppose. It can be slow, but that doesn't happen as much as it used to. ShortHand is the expander. Hate it. You can use IT. Demos depend on the account. You generally don't have to do too much with them, at least not on my 5 accounts.

It's an okay platform, not nearly as good as DQS, but I'll take the downgrade in platform and the upgrade in company any day. Good luck to you. :)
enterprise versus escription
Anybody used both?  What is different?  Which did you like best?
Enterprise. I really think there's a huge difference
in STM expectations and management styles. I find my STM fairly unreasonable and to be completely lacking in empathy/understanding. Even though I average 19-20,000 lines a pay period and have 98.9% QA, she is unreasonable in many ways. Oh well. Wonder if I can change STMs?
