ER

Like all other accounts, it depends on the account and the company.  Back in the 90s I worked in an MRC office where all they did was ERs.  Even then we were usually short on work because the TAT for ERs is usually around 2 hours.  Recently when I worked on an ER account it was always running out of work but I had backup accounts so that was okay.  Some of your ERs are more like chart notes, especially in small hospitals.  If it is a Level One Trauma Center, the reports are usually pretty detailed and more like H&Ps, also usually pretty interesting.

I haven't had any ERs that had templates although I imagine some do.  You can make your own templates and you can fly through them. You had better be prepared for dictators who dictate at the speed of light because that's how they all dictate.  I've found you  have about the same good and bad dictators as with any other specialty.  The last ER account I worked on was lost to VR and I think you can expect to see all ER work gone in the not so distant future as they all are transitioning to VR.

My advice would to be to ask lots of questions about the account and be sure you have back up accounts if you need to have a consistent work load.

Hope this helps.
