I understand. It is a shame isnt it. I hope they sleep well at night.

I think I understand what you're (sm)
asking, but I'm not sure you understand the terminology. FTP means file transfer protocol. It just refers to a particular method of transfer. It has nothing to do with platforms or anything else, it's just one way to transfer files from computer to computer. It has nothing to do with when or on what schedule you might get sent work. Think of it like picking up tapes. Your "tape" is transferred to the FTP server. When you get around to logging on to the FTP server, your "tape" is there waiting for you. You download it and log off. Then you do whatever it is you have to do during the day while you get your "tape" done. Then you transfer the finished product back to the FTP server. It's not like a platform where you have to log on and stay logged on while you do your work. Hope this helps.
I understand what you're saying.
Hope I didn't come across as being nasty. But what I meant was IT'S ALL AN ILLUSION. Just because the AAMT says that someone is a CMT, doesn't mean they are. Yes, I know it's their test and their credential.......because they have called it so. But we don't have to accept that as our reality. They don't make the rules for us all. You know what we should do? We should ALL call ourselves CMTs! That would take the sizzle out the AAMT so fast, they wouldn't know what hit them! We can call ourselves anything we want--and there's not a darned thing the AAMT can do about it. It's a free country, and they don't OWN those three words. Just a thought.
I understand what you're saying,
but if I couldn't see it, I couldn't use it to pay my bills (but wound up feeling stressed, knowing that I would have to come up with the money at some point to pay my taxes). Either way, once I saw what I cleared when working for them, I couldn't afford to pay my bills. I didn't stay with them very long. I found a good company (not one of the ones that are always advertising for MTs). They pay a good line rate and take out all my taxes. I can actually earn a decent living again, and I have no problem paying my bills.
From some of the posts on this board, though, I'm very glad I got out when I did.
I understand what you're up against, but....
When they set your hours, they are supposed to make you an employee and withhold taxes. If you are paying your own taxes as an IC, then they could be held responsible for all the time they have not withheld your taxes in so far as they have made you set a schedule. It is a shame that companies do this, but it is against the law according to the IRS. There is a fine line, however. Read up on it and you'll see on the IRS site that they can tell you that they want the work back in a certain amount of time, but cannot for example tell you to do it between 9 a.m. and 11 a.m., etc. If they are doing this and putting you on a time clock, then you are not an IC, you are an employee. I guess if you wanted to you could fight it or else just stick to your schedule. I would, however, raise the question to your company that since you have to work a set schedule is there any way to make you an employee in according with the IRS standards. If you love your job and this doesn't bother you then let it go. They'll get caught up with eventually because they'll try this with the wrong IC.
I think you're right. I never did understand why -
hospitals scream bloody murder at the mere thought of setting up MTs at home...('Too expensive!' 'Too much software to purchase'! etc.) Yet they're willing to pay through the nose for VR equipment. It seems like the suits always fall for the shiny new gadgets that they think carry a 'wow' factor, that they can boast to their colleagues about at that next big medical conference.
I understand. I don't think you're understanding
the thread from below that I am referring to. We are all new hires and understand that we can only transcribe 5 jobs a day. I agree and understand completely. But several of the MTs posting below are very upset, as they do not have the work to even complete the 5 jobs a day. They are apparently being told there is no work on various accounts. That is what is freaking me out. I understand the logic and reasoning behind 5 jobs maximum while training, but I do not understand that those in training have no work to get just 5 jobs. That does not bode well for the future.
GrammEr? Hope you're not QA also!
nm
Gee, I really hope you're not certified....
being you can't spell right LOLOLOLOL
6 cpl - I hope you're talking about
editing, here. You have 4 years' acute care experience and should be making at least 8 cpl. IC should pay more since they don't have to pay benefits. Check the job board out. I'm sure you'll find something.
I just hope you're not back here a (sm)
month from now claiming someone or some company took your money for a newbie chance or internship type situation and it was a scam. If there was a legit company, the post could have just posted without the need for asking for private contact.
You go, Girl! Hope you're feeling better! nm
x
I hope I don't get that account you're talking about either.
I am a little scared now.
Sorry - I guess we're getting to be like the Indians - we don't understand what we read
or type.
Trying to understand your post.
This is what bothers me about posts like yours. If a person posts a problem they're having, why does it mean that they're not supportive of their employer or not happy? They're just having a problem! If you have a problem with your husband leaving the toilet seat up and you tell your sister that he is driving you crazy with it, does it mean you're not happy or supportive of your husband? Don't you ever have any problems in your life that you talk about with other people?? Another thing that ticks me off is that posters like you think that a person talking about their problem IS the problem. You said it yourself when you said It's better to be part of the solution than part of the problem. There are NEVER any solutions if you don't recognize a problem. That's just burying your head, and you won't find any solutions where you just buried it. The only way you will find solutions is through discussion.
I understand your post.
And, for the record, I do not disagree with you. What I was pointing out to this MT was that if she is trying to get experience in editing then she might want to consider any offer to do so to build her experience for a job down the road that she can move into and be paid her worth. I can only assume that she will have something else, perhaps some transcription, that she can do to make some money. Then, she may be able to do this and not think of the loss of salary. We don't know her situation and I was speaking in a generality.
I understand your post...
Psych transcription is all you do. You do not do hospital or clinic or any medical transcription.
Let's just say that you have completed a course in medical transcription...
Then you need to find someone who hires a newbie....
Let's just say you do that....
If you can transcribed 1000 lines a day (which may be a bit high for a newbie, I am not sure) and if you found someone who would pay you 5 cents per line, you would make $50 dollars a day, which is $250 a week, which is 13K a year.
Say you found someone who would pay you, a newbie in the field, 7 cents per line. At 1000 lines a day, you would make $70 a day, $350 a week, or $18,200 a year.
I really do not know if this would be possible for a newbie. I doubt it.
Maybe others will post their opinions.
I would keep my day job, and try to break into the medical field on my own time, so to speak. Especially since your family needs your income at the level it is at.
Good luck.
I really do not understand your post
I have been doing this for years but what is a grunt?
Hope they're already told the employees at the hospital that they are out of a job. I don't t
they should post specifics like this.
Well, I HOPE they're a good place to work...
... since I worked for TRS and thus got acquired by Transcend when TRS did.
Interestingly... when I was job-hunting about 7 months ago, I basically read every entry in the MT Companies section of another forum (M T Chat)looking for companies that got good reviews. Because it got very good reviews there, Transcend was the second-to-last company I applied to, just before TRS. At that time, Transcend was only testing for acute care (my 36 years of clinical in multiple specialties wasn't good enough, I guess) so they told me no thanks. And now they've got me anyway.
I am still reserving judgment because the merger only happened 2 weeks ago; and I am still working on my same accounts, under the same supervisors, on the same platform, so there have been no visible changes as yet....
Sincerely, I do hope you're prepared to work for 8 cpl now
Apparently MDI was one of the companies that paid their experienced MTs pretty well.
With the merge, you'll be making less eventually. If you quit and look for a new job, you'll be making less, way less, than you were making at MDI.
I'm another one who's BTDT, too. I went from making 11 cpl to now making 8 cpl. I tried HARD to find any company, obscure to well known, that will start off more than that. Couldn't find 'em. Probably won't ever go up, either.
Just sayin' that you should be prepared to budget your living costs for the amount of money you'll be missing each month compared to what you were making at MDI. It's awful, I know, been through it. Going to school now to do something else, getting out.
Trying hard to understand your post, and you
could very well be on the QA staff at OSi. OR could also be management. Trust me, there are many people who have a lot to say about the insanity at OSi.
I don't understand your post. Why don't you get paid
nm
You certainly do not understand what my post is all about. The capitalizations
and exclamation marks in my post are not unnecessary, as there are MTs who cannot differentiate when to use PLURAL and when to use PLEURAL.
Comprende?!
I hope they keep posting. They're showing everyone their true colors. :) nm

hope so! they're hiring like crazy now, editors & MTs evidently ~nm
I sure hope you were not referring to my post..sm
I don't know who you were referring to but I'm not that person saying India rocks....that's a given....*lol*
I merely said that racism and false accusation are not a good thing...but perhaps you weren't even referring to me, now that there are a dozen posts or so in the thread....
Happy weekend to all...*S*

See MT30+ post below...Think I understand now her issues
Likely this is her attitude even when talking to recruiters.
There's a fine line between confidence and arrogance, and I think this poster just illustrated that very well for all of us.
MT30+, I hope you find something in life to make you happy.
Deb Garrison, I hope you're reading this board, because I'm coming at you with one hell of a l
I know that there are a lot of you out there who are owed money. Some of you are owed LOTS of money and Deb just spends it on herself. You'll likely NEVER get paid, but together you can all make sure she never runs an MTSO again. But, what needs to happen is ALL MTs screwed out of their paychecks must come together for this to actually happen. You all can email me at flagfootballcoach@gmail.com and we will pull together and bring down the hammer on this woman. She has had too many different businesses, taken people for their hard earned money, and needs to be shut down for good.
I hope so because I have no clue what this post is talking about!
x
I hope you saw my original answer to this post
over on the main board before they moved your post and thus dropped my reply....
$48 for the medical, $10 for the dental, and I don't know how much for the vision because I didn't opt in for it this year. That's per paycheck, do double that to get the monthly fee. I did opt for the higher-deductible medical; the lower-deductible premium share was about twice as much.
What a hateful post. Hope your rant made you feel better. nm

You've just removed all doubt. I hope everyone reads your above post!
I knew you'd eventually hang yourself and remove all doubts.
Now everyone will know that this entire thread has been one lie after another.
There isn't an MT on this board that is paid salary from an MTSO and that includes Landmark.
Nice try. Now get some help.
Your post is SO odd. 1 day, you're asking for help, running your whole
situation by us all, asking for advice. In less than 1 day, you have totally pulled 360-degree switch, to now working for another company, MQ is in your history, and you've got it all figured out. How did you come to this end result in 24 hours or less?? Or did you just feel like bashing MQ? Otherwise, your post is totally off on timing - now you're already a seasoned MT at a company who will refine your skills! In hours! Boy, you are good! But why ask for help??
Where is the post to which you're referring?
I can't find any that have the arrow
I'm sorry you're in a bad place, but when you make a post
others who are currently working for or are looking for employment with Medware. I honestly think you need to give at least a little explanation instead of doing such a hit and run comment. But I really do wish you the best. I hope you get a better job soon. (By the way, I don't think anyone pays too much attention to Wilma :).
We're not allowed to post names or even
initials here. Their website might give some insight. The CEO and his brother own the company, but CEO is active in the company and he doesn't know his rear end from a whole in the ground and is motivated by GREED. He just kinds of plays it by ear as he goes and after talking with him you feel like you need hip boots and a shower.
When you post something like that and sign it that you're not happy, sm
the bashers have a field day. I wrote a post a few months back that was taken wrong and by the end of the thread, it appeared that KS is the worst company in the world. To me, it is the opposite. I have been around the block too many times, and they are far and above the others out there including all the bigger ones and most of the smaller ones!
Things written on a public board can be taken wrong and can damage the reputation of a company or person. My daughter is going through a bad time right now because of a post that was supposed to be a joke. She's 14 and they are no different than adults when they see something to jump on.
I hope you're right. I've been waiting 4 wks for an ID - still waiting! nm

If you're referring to the 20K-line post, I am NOT mgmt...sm
I make this type of line count because I'm willing to work on different accounts and work extra when the need arises. I LIKE paying my bills, so I am flexible - and that, in this day and age, is on of the real keys. Nothing is as it used to be when work was consistent and pay was better, but I need to pay the bills. I have a great communication with my supervisor, and that is another key. If you don't talk to somebody about your problems or lack of work of whatever, it cannot be fixed. I don't care if I have to learn every acct the company has - I'm going to do that, because it will ensure that I can maintain a good line count at the end of the payroll period, thereby affording me a better check.
The basic fact is that working for a company is no different than any other aspect of your life. If it's not working for you, then you MUST make a change. Complaining about something will not change it - and ultimately you will spend your life feeling miserable - and trying to make other people feel miserable, too. I choose the opposite.
I've been at a multitude of other nationals and, for me and for now, this IS the company that I'm happy with and with whom I intend to stay.
You can go ahead and flame away - 'cause while you're sitting here typing nasty responses, accusing me of being mgmt, or making negative responses about Transcend, I'm working away. Now if that sounds "condescending" to you, TOUGH!
see post below "if you're thinking of quitting"
that's the one.
You're right...that post doesn't make any sense...sm
How could high producers mess things up for the rest of us, when, in the past few weeks, we were offered incentives on most of the accounts to keep them in TAT by working extra?? And how could a responsible member of management even state something to that effect? The only logical conclusion is that this particular poster wants to discourage high production (on his-/her OWN accord) in other MTs to keep the pickings greener for him-/herself.
Post from Sept. says Need to buy your own TransNet pedal & you're NOT connected to the net

Try re-reading the original post...you're missing the point

So you guys feel you're getting paid what you're worth with VR?
I'm not trying to be snarky. I've never done VR, so I'm trying to understand.
You're happy with your paycheck with VR? Do you find the files to be as bad as the original post implied?
So you're telling me, basically, they're bad news?
They offered me 0.095/line and you know - it sounded too good to be true, but I SWEAR the recruiter told me they do not outsource. Oh brother... I just wish they'd be honest. I really don't know what to do.
Not the OP, but they're supposed to take out all the other taxes as you're an employee with th
