doesn't sound like an American sm
company to me. The ad is worded to differently.
Don't kid yourself, WalMart doesn't do American. sm
They'll have sweat shops all over India, China, etc., to do the work. It's how they do everything else.
Which is less in American $ and doesn't include dues. nm

Just because it is American run doesn't mean it isnt offshore owned.

doesn't sound off to me
I ask for opinions on here all the time and am happy to share my experiences with different companies to anyone who asks including the current one. It is hard to find good help and good companies that respect it.
Usually all QA comes from within, so that doesn't sound
right to start with. Unless they hired a new recruiter very recently they don't have a man - maybe it is from the TransHealth side?
That doesn't sound too bad to me . . .
I pay $684 a month for myself and 2 children. I just finally got my DH accepted as well and don't know the new premium yet . . . but I'm scared to death to see what it will be! I'm sure we'll end up being over $1000 a month. Health insurance stinks.
Doesn't sound good
I did not know they outsourced to India. No wonder they are paying the Transcriptionist so darn cheap. People in India can live off making very low pay. I better look elsewhere. Thanks for your advice.
Doesn't sound crazy
Since you have been at the hospital in your area, try and pick up one or two doctors that have a small clinic or stand alone practices for your own account. Then build from there. That would help supplement what you make from the national. There are still IM's, surgeons, derms and psychologists/psychiatrists that use tapes and need someone. Tell them about your hospital experience and that will help. I do 300 to 500 lines per hour since I have been doing my docs for so long. Good luck. Patti
Thanks!...Doesn't sound so good! lol n/m

Wow, it doesn't sound so great . . . LOL
I appreciate you taking the time to answer these questions, but I am very curious about the down time pay. I don't really want to work for them, I want down time pay. Unfortunately, due to a bad arm I had to give up about two-thirds of the work I had a year or so ago, and I have revamped my setup to reduce my pain so that I could keep working. Don't get me wrong, I do not mind working and would do any work that is available during the time I was required to be on, but mostly I wanted to know how much the pay is when you're not working but required to be on and, something I did not ask before, how they figure the time worked versus the time waiting for work. I assume the system keeps track of how long the transcribing takes you and when you are not working??? I know you said that it varies and you don't think they are hiring just so that they can pay down time, but I am still curious.
Thanks again!
Can I ask when that was? It doesn't sound like them and I have been there 2 years. sm
I know that they lost a few to VR in radiology but have replaced the accounts. One hospital did not even tell them until the day they moved to Powerscribe, which was horrible of the account, but KS took care of all of us. Might be worth revisiting them if you are looking.
Hmm..that doesn't sound good. Thx for sharing. NM

No, doesn't sound legal. Someone erred...
...on their part, and they should fix it. You might want to check with your State and see what statutes you can dig up to shake their tree if they don't realize their mistake and fix this. Very odd. Best of luck!
Doesn't sound like a brown nose to me...
but rather a very grateful employee. This board is very discouraging to me. A lot of whiners who are not good medical transcriptionists and then turn it around to make the company they worked for look bad. Actually, it can be quite entertaining when I am bored.
Doesn't sound like the Transtech I work for...NM
nm
Doesn't sound too promising .. thanks for the info. nm

Thank you - that doesn't sound good. Continuing to look ......nm
xx
I agree. Definitely called them. That doesn't sound right to me either.

Phew...! Doesn't sound good! sm msg
It sounds as if the owner loses her cool! Not good! Thanks!
You're using her computer? Doesn't sound
If you truly are an IC - I would send her an invoice. She will need your soc. sec. # or tax ID for reporting purposes - that's pretty standard.
What company offers this? Doesn't sound famililar. nm

Doesn't sound too bad to me with 7 months experience. I have 26 years' exp and get 11.5. nm
nm
I'm so sorry to hear this. It doesn't sound good. I hope you
nm
That doesn't sound very encouraging, does it.? Will have to wait and see I guess :(

Cbay doesn't sound good. Glad I left
the Q when I did. I really hashed over that decision, but I am so glad I did. There will be a lot of people looking for work very soon. I wouldn't wait around until all the good spots are filled.
Well for starters . . .
How about the email that the CEO or whatever he is sent out company-wide to cover their tracks when they got caught red-handed outsourcing while they were denying it?
And how about the way people remember the email introducing the new QA manager, who just 2 years ago was described in a company wide email as someone who is learning to do MT well enough to work at home unsupervised.
I got those mass emails when I was an employee and so did everyone else. They also got posted to this board by former employees. Can't argue with the information when it comes straight from the horse's mouth!
If ad said they wanted self-starters, this could be a way

You have to be in Michigan for starters. sm
Preferably the west side of the state as you have one day of training at their home office in Cadillac. They provide everything you need including the computer. They use Vianeta and their tech support people are great. They give you a mentor to start with and expect you to be off corrections within a week or two. And they always answer emails and/or phone calls.
Hope this helps.
HITECH ACT for starters
Have you been keeping up on the laws that are going to start in Feb 2010?
Granted, the excerpt below that I took from the MT Herald speaks of transcriptionists off-shore, it is applicable to transcriptionists ON-SHORE as well.
As you might be knowing that HITECH act has given more teeth to HIPAA with heavy penalties and imprisonment for “willful neglect” and “non-compliance.” The penalties range from $100 to $1,500,000 per calendar year. Apart from these civil penalties, criminal punishments could include imprisonment up to 10 years. All these come into effect from February 18, 2010. Furthermore, HIPAA regulations insist that compliance means “a not do once and forget issue” but an “ongoing dynamic process.” In case of a breach at your end even if you are a medical Transcriptionist offshore, the octopussy hands of HIPAA could narrow down on you through the onshore covered entity/business associate and depending on the intensity and repercussion of the breach and depending on the treaties existing between the US and the offshored country (say like the India-US Extradition Treaty).
Unfortunately, the country seems headed toward rich, or poor, period.
sort of like, anyone not rich has to conform to the mentality that ...we are only working for the good of everyone else.
MT is not the only profession. it seems to be eroding through our entire society like wild fire. you best not have a good opinion of your self or worth, because you will be whipped back into believing you are only lucky to have a job.
heartless. whoever is in charge of this country or in the trend is heartless. any companies that were good, and there were a few, are claiming they now need to compete with lower wages and better technology, all of which we have to suck up, not the owners.
mostly I hear women with that mentality, that martyr-type attitude. we shoud just work like dogs, expect nothing but our sweat-shop pay, keep our mouths shut, and just be glad for any scraps a company wants to throw at you.
these companies love these women...and if it was not so sad, it would almost be funny to watch some of these women now, who are not even making what they made five years ago but are losing work, benefits, and pay. maybe they are happy because, hey, after all, we probably do not even deserve that, right?
Focus offshores 80% of their work to India. And I heard they are headed

If you want to email me, please feel free. I am headed to the beach today through tomorrow :)
I live literally 1 block from the shore and have only been twice this year due to baseball with kids, my mother being in town for 3 weeks who does not like the beach and wants to be entertained all day long and a bout with the flu. I am going to take the rest of today and tomorrow and bake like a french fry!
Wow..no coffee this morning. I meant "anyone" NOT another. Headed for the coffee pot...right n
Are you sure the sound quality was the platform and not your sound card? Also, I don't know of ma
services that pay "down time" if the platform is inoperational. ALL software has its share of problems. It's the nature of the business. When you were hired, did you sign a contract accepting the terms regarding PTO? If so, what could you possibly complain about since you did, afterall, sign the agreement? Did you have a good relationship with your QA Editor/Team Leader that you could ask questions about account specifics?
My understanding of the VR is that it has been in development for a number of years not to be released until the fine tuning was complete. It would seem to me, and I am in no way affiliated with Transcend, that provided that VR is good then earning a line rate as an Editor would be beneficial, if that's how Transcend is planning to compensate.
All in all, I would say that if anyone is interested in working for Transcend or any service for that matter, make sure to ask the services Recruiter specific questions. If what you're hearing sounds good and makes sense, go for it. If what your'e hearing is not all that you thought it would be, move on. However, you MUST take what you read on forums boards with a grain of salt. While some posts regarding various services may be legitimate, others may not be.
Good Luck!
MT Manners
Doesn't apply if your OSI account doesn't use Ichart.
It is the Ichart only for OSi where you are cheated.
TT doesn't pay for spaces or ExText doesn't
nm
That doesn't fly - KS doesn't offshore
nm
He doesn't trust VR, or doesn't trust his MT to train it correctly?
Or perhaps his MT(s) has/have been filling his head with horror stories about VR and how it is a lawsuit waiting to happen?
Personally, I don't see any reason an M.D. would not trust a VR program, unless he's seen the products of a report edited by a less than competent MT who didn't do their editing job appropriately.
An American
Your right - I posted and I am American. Read the book - The Worls is Really Flat - grow up. This is a busines that Sally Struthers advertises to unemployed people in the middle of the day - Learn to be a medical Transcriptionist ...
I believe that rasism is bad. The people on this site are off balance. They believe that ONLY Americans can do this work. They believe that because someone was born in another country - they are a lesser person. How sad and small - it is the very thing that will kill the business for Americans. MTSOs understand that they provide a great living for people in India. Indian companies provide health insurance, paid time offf, transporation to and from work, and free meals. Do American MTSOs provide ANY of this?
all american
meant appreciate that, oops
Yes, you got it - American men do same.....NM
American MTs
American MTs: Is this job for you? This little paragraph should go in all their job ads.
And yes, we do outsource, to India, to the Philippines and we have American MTs. Our overseas MTs don't complain about having to work, they don't ask for time off every other day, they don't have excuses for not turning in their work within TAT and several of them produce client ready work. Our offshore MTs pride themselves in their work and turn in the best quality they can, unlike a few of the American MTs we’ve had that turn in less than perfect work, don’t take direction and refuse to change bad habits, and ask for more work just to make more money. Juliann Shapin
non-American MTs
Gee you are a foreigner...you are not an American...so should American companies not hire you because you are taking the American dollars away from Americans? Would you feel the same way about hiring British MTs or French MTs?
No, he IS American. Which is of course (nm)
.
Are you American?
nm
They took American and MT out of their name...
That about sums it up! I guess they can take our money for their self-serving agenda, but don't expect them to use American or MT in their name anymore. Thanks for NOTHING Association for Healthcare Documentation Integrity. What a joke you always have been and still are....
Well, no WONDER you can't get American
Of course, don't think for a minute that INDIAN MTs don't read these boards. So now THEY know what kind of an employer you are, too! I hope one of them gets ahold of a sensitive medical record of YOURS someday, and holds it for ransom like that Pakistani MT did, and sells your SS#.
Are you American? If not, why don't you go to
the board in your own country? If you are American, then why not do something about helping Americans get jobs? Can you answer these questions?
100% American
.
American company
A company from Maine wants to hire me (if I pass their testing). THing is, they hardly discussed a thing with me about anything. THey only want to pay me 7-8 cents per line, but promise to provide me with the computer and all supplies that I need. I dont want to invest alot of time studying and stuff if they decide not to pay me or send the stuff. They only have one other canadian working for them as an IC (they pay american MTs really well as employees with benefits). Just seems kind of odd to me. THey are called Northeastern Transcription anyhow. I wish i could find a good company to work for that pays decent are and nice to work for. Me and hubby are both out of work presently!!
