I have Charter Cable for phone, internet and cable and love it. No worries about big bills. sm
Their service is not great but I have not had to call since I was set up 2 years ago, so it does not bother me. My whole block uses it and we are all very happy!
The cable company is contracted
with the apartment complex where I live. The complex is more than 20 years old. The cable company did not lay down lines to support internet connection in this STATE (how 'bout thinking ahead, eh?} I can get satellite but most MTSOs won't let you use it.
You know don't you that you can get cable modem without having cable TV. It costs sm
about $10 more a month for it but you can get it without having cable TV if cable connection are in your house and if they aren't, you can have them put in.
Are they really? It's a new MT company out of Tampa area. Do you think
it's the same people? Why would they have a different company?
PS: If you excell at an area that is good for the company, why
should you be penalized. I have been an MT for 18 years and I enjoy doing these types of reports. I do quality reports that need little QA. That benefits the company. I have seen numerous MTs who hate to do this work type, and probably 50% of the MTs in the industry don't want them at all. I am happy to do any work type I get, I am just happier with these. Frankly, I am just happy I work in a field where I will have a job (at least for a while). I think things are going to be getting a lot tougher in times ahead for the economy and I am grateful for being hired at TT, they have been really good to me.
Anyone heard of a company called Webscribe. Think they are in the Kansas City, Mo area. (nm)
.
depends on work type, experience, spaces, company, area
nm
Resource Providers, Inc.?
Has anyone ever heard of this company? Know anything about them?
Resource Providers, Inc (RPI)....Does anyone actually work for them? sm
Would like to hear from current or former employees with info on this company. You can email me if you would rather not post here. Thanks.
National Transcription Providers
I've only worked for hospitals, except for a brief run with Medquist when I was still green. MedQuist happened to have a local office and that's where I went to be tested and interviewed. I can't imagine the smaller MTSOs having all those local offices, so how do they interview? Hospitals may pay better and have better benefits, but you have to put up with their corporate culture and lots of mandatory meetings and seminars that have nothing to do with medical transcription. I'm thinking it would be great to be free of all that crap, but mostly I'm wondering if smaller MTSOs interview you by phone or if you actually have to travel to one of their offices. Thanks.
SBC doesn't allow MTs. Many long distance providers don't anymore because of how many minutes
This MDI place really needs to get out of the stone ages already and go internet files like other companies have already been doing for years now.
MDI-Maryland is an excellent company, pay on time all the time, great line rate.
I left also because I went out and got my own client(s).
They are very nice people.
The only negative I can think of were the e-mails from the owner say work, work, work, we are out of TAT.
Other than that, which is very minor, it was a good experience.
Great company. I've been recommending this company for a long time.

dsl/cable
I live in the Panhandle of Florida. If any of you live in this area and use DLS, have you noticed that getting on the internet is slower than usual? I think this is due to internet traffic. If any of you have had DSL before and now have cable for internet access (or cable to DSL), can you tell me which you thought was better/faster? Thanks in advance.
Cable or DSL
I thought wireless was DSL.
No DSL access or cable either
where I live. Have satellite access, but hospital will not allow us to use this. For the past 10 years been using dial-up at 28K only, which can be frustrating at times, but I try to hang in there.
My goal is 1400 lines a day (7.5 hour shift), which I accomplish most days, but I do not have any little ones at home.
Hospital installing new web-based system soon, which they say will be much better!
I work for a large corporation with multiple smaller satellite facilities -- I work for one of the smaller facilities. Do you think we work for the same corporation?
I would encourage any experienced MT to work for a national sometime during their career. The experience and wealth of knowledge gained will last a lifetime. It takes an exceptional multi-tasker to be able to transcribe multiple accounts all in a day's work. But, DSL is required by most nationals.
Have you ever worked in a home-based setting?
If not, it takes a lot of discipline to work from home. I also encourage you to keep little ones in day care unless you can arrange to work while they sleep.
I personally am a little on the hyper side, like to move at fast pace and would rather be up working around the house. Warm sunny days are my worst -- love to be outdoors! So, I work in 2- to 4-hour blocks.
Wishing you the very best!
Cable reimburse ????
Whenever TT has an ad on the Job Board here, nothing is mentioned about cable reimbursement...I don't think they do this.
Is cable reimbersement for FT only? (nm)
cable phone
I have also run into problems with the phone companies unlimited long distance but have had cable phone for a couple of months now and no problems. I asked before I signed up if it was truly unlimited or sort of unlimited and they said truly unlimited.
Why have cable and little food. You don't say
internet. But like you said you get your priorities straight.
To the companies that require cable or DSL
I have no access to cable and never will because of the area I live in. I also have no access to DSL and do not know when that will happen, if ever. Companies that required cable or DSL should know that they lose out on many experienced and qualified transcriptionists because of that requirement. Like Diskriter--ever since I started job seeking a few weeks ago they have had post after post looking for transcriptionists. I cannot apply because they need high speed internet. What exactly needs the high speed?? Downloading voice files, uploading voice files. I am curious. I work for a company that I downloaded the voice files via internet, typed the files in Word and then uploaded them via internet site and/or FTP. Easy to do and no high speed required. Can anyone enlighten me?
I need a job like yesterday but my options are very limited. I put a query on the board looking for companies that are okay with dialup and got only two names. That is very disheartening. Anyone out there with company names that do dialup still would be very appreciated. Email me if you want, whatever, something.
Thank you all.
Their ad states cable or DSL, I think, but once in a pinch sm
I used dialup when my cable was out. It was INCREDIBLY slow retrieving jobs and loading the demographic information, but it did work. I don't know about WiFi -- guess you could call and ask them. The people in the office are very friendly and helpful.
Good luck!
Satellite transmission and cable/DSL are like sm
apples and oranges and something you're not understanding.
Just to be sure does anyone actually use Charter Cable and it works? Thanks! (nm)
nm
I have mine through my cable internet
company. It only works if you have high-speed internet.
On another board people are using a device called MagicJack. You plug it into your USB port and then plug your phone into it. It is about $40 the first month and then it is something like $20/year after that. You also have to have high-speed internet for it to work.
Ha! Who needs cable when all of this entertainment is available for free!

Lanier and Cable Phone
Lanier works with cable phone? Last time I tried to use a Lanier with cable phone (Roadrunner) it would not work. I'm starting at MDI next week. Not on a Lanier acct but its nice to know thats an option if I need more work.
Sorry for the bother . . it was my DSL cable got unplugged Ugh! Thanks n/m

As far as I know cable phone or Voip is the
only true long distance. I had it through TWC in my area (we don't have Comcast). AT&T has a 5000 minute limit, which if you only work PT would probably be enough. I know someone who got 2 phone numbners, had unlimited on both, used one for half the month and then switched to the other. She ended up paying more than I did for my digital phone service.
Great little company..I worked there for a short time, IC, and pay always on time, great owner too!
I had good dictators, they use FTP, and I had a 12-hour window to return the work.
Cable reimbursement! I completely forgot about that!
My former employer did not pay for that, and I completely forgot that TT pays! I have never submitted a bill for reimbursement. SHEESH! What a space cadet I am!!!!
Thanks for the input. I have cable Internet. Do you ever get raises?
Line rate seems a little low. Thanks.
Does anyone use Charter Cable? Did it work? Thks! (nm)

Internet DSL or cable...heads up to prospective employers sm
I see many employers insisting upon cable or DSL internet only as a prerequisite for employment.
These are not the only two reliable, fast ISPs anymore, folks.
I have fixed wireless, also known as wireless DSL. I have a package right now at 768 kbps, with the option to go 1 mbp. My ISP is every bit as fast as regular DSL (I know; I used to have DSL) and is, in my experience, more reliable. Fixed wireless is NOT satellite (and again, I should know; I used to have satellite, as well). Fiberoptic is also out there and from what I hear, beats even cable.
Technology is progressing by leaps and bounds and I hope prospective employers do not rule out any great MTs because they do not realize that cable and DSL now have company...and competetion: Fixed wireless and fiberoptic.
yes, I use Lanier with my cable phone just fine (I don't have Roadrunner)

Annudder is right. I used ExText a couple of years ago, and my cable sm
went out and in a pinch I took my computer over to a friend's house, and she had dialup and it was AWFUL .. everything was incredibly slow, from downloading the files in my queue, to anytime I accessed the internet. Of course, dialup compared to the cable or DSL is slow anyway, but it was very time consuming. The only thing I can say was it was better than not working at all.
Good luck!
Unfortunately, this isn't available in my area. Who wants to pay LD anyway.

another Bay Area MT
I live in Santa Clara and I totally agree with you. SF and the Bay Area as a whole are very unique. I do not think that I could live anywhere else either. My life feels so easy here. No freezing my tush off in the snow. In fact, I am still growing herbs and swiss chard outside. I can take the bus and/or train all over even to the beach. I enjoy all the diversity we have here in the Bay. I grew up in South Florida and in some ways the Bay is similar, but even better with our microclimates. I love the fall here. Just a little cool, but yet we still have the trees turn with beautiful yellow and orange leaves. Most all of the people I have met here are very nice. I enjoy going to the different farmer's markets and taking a day trip to SF. I enjoy the Ferry Building and its market very much.
bay area MT
I grew up in South Florida and lived in PA about 20 minutes from Philly before moving to the Bay and I think that my quality of life here is very high. I live in the Silicon Valley:) Personally, I think that my cost of living was much higher in PA than it is here. To each their own though:)
I can tell you in my area...
We have two very large health systems here, each with multiple large hospitals under their umbrella: Mercy Health Partners and ProMedica. ProMedica is the largest employer in our city (Toledo), even over the Daimler-Chrysler and Jeep plants. ProMedica does house some MT's and some work at home depending on which hospital and department. However, their pay is exceedingly low. Mercy, however, is the ultimate dream job. Any of their hospitals will hire remote MT's while still making you an employee, their pay is outstanding and their benefits are outstanding. In exchange for that is simply a regular work schedule, being 1st, 2nd or 3rd shift. Yes, I wish they'd all do it this way!
Happens every company at some time or another. I
never complained - just did what I got. Learned to do everything and do it beyond well, but it was a tough road to travel. It will always happen - just human nature. I know lots of other MTs - ex-coworkers - who were always complaining about such. One thing - it never made them get the better work. Just got them labeled as complainers, and they probably got worse work! Just my experience at 30 years in this industry!
Every company has a TAT time for their
reports, if you say you are working a certain schedule, yes they would expect you to work it. They have to schedule employees accordingly to complete their contractural agreements with the facility. So, if you are say you will work 4-6 and then don't they may have a problem getting the work done because they knew you were working and didn't assign anyone else that account.
What area of the country are you in?
//
If this is the one in Los Angeles area sm
they have never paid on time and this has gone on for years and years. Best to work for a company that you can rely on to pay you. Do a search in the archives.
What State or area
I get paid per minute. I got paid $1.25 for 8 years and never asked for a raise until last year. Now I get paid $1.35, was told that was the going rate in my area.
I think 336 is an NC area code.
I think it's Charlotte, but DH thinks it's Burlington. Either way, NC.
I would think it does, especially in the same geographical area. nm
s
What general area
The 3 big ones in my area have most of their MTs at home with full benefits and incentive plans. Most of their systems require high speed and some have a mileage limit for repairs, etc. Start calling all the local hospitals within 100 mile radius of you and see if they have MTs working from home. Most require a short period of in-house training but if you're experienced they usually send you home in a week.
see if earthlink is available in your area....sm
I live in an area that not too much is available, but was able to get cable internet through earthlink, although i have satellite tv, and they have phone available too. It's $19.95 for the first 6 months then goes to $24.95. Unlimited calling, caller id, and voicemail is included. They also have DSL internet available too.
Philadelpia area
xxxx
Sorry. I know I must be looking in the wrong area.
I could swear in the past I have seen things but I haven't been on here for months and could not remember what the feedback was. I tried putting TTS in the company board area and also spelled out the whole name but nothing comes up, which is odd.
