I love doing pathology, but it is hard to find a position for working at home. Gross pathology is
easy, descriptive typing.  Microscopic is a little more difficult, but once you get the terminology down, it goes really quickly.  I also found it easy to get lines in with pathology.  If you've done acute care, you should not have a problem with the transition, IMHO.
Yes, if you did really well on the CareerStep final.
.
Ok, here is my final suggestion

would someone please apply and then post here what they REALLY meant.  For 16 or 18 cpl, I could QUICKLY become a RAD MT with or without experience (everything is relative, you know).  And if they upped it to 20 cpl, i would even take my C-phone and internet connection to Yorba Linda and work there!

So, I will be sitting by my IE just waiting to click on my MTStars link, click on Company Board, and find out that I can soon be making THE BIG BUCKS doing radiology transcription.

But let's just keep this between us, just IN CASE they only have 3 or 4 positions open, ok?  Deal or No Deal?????

Final opinions about job offers
I have been offered as I stated below 2 positions as this point, one with Transcend and one with Softscript.  Both have been very nice and responsive, and SoftScript has been very organized about sending sign-on papers and handbooks, etc.  I also have the option since I only work part-time and have never run out of work of staying with the Q, but not being able to get a straight answer as to whether or not we will have jobs down the road.  Softscript's pay is comparable and even slightly more than what I'm making now, and Transcend's is less, but that's okay if I'm going to have a job down the road.  I have to make a final decision by tonight or tomorrow.  Thanks everyone!!!
The physician makes the final

We are transcriptionists, not physicians.  We don't make any calls.  We transcribe what we hear, and they read the report and sign off.  It's that simple.  It always has been that simple.

No one here deserves the salary of anything more than what they get or make production wise.

Do you really think these MTSOs are charging a million dollars or what?  They make money by bidding accounts and then sub the work out whether that be by hiring employees or by contracting with an IC.

I don't know where people come up with this idea that we are the bread and butter of these companies.  We are the worker bees.  Do a good job and you'll make some money.  I make twice as much now working from home than I did hourly with benefits and the benefits were crap.

I can set my own tone.  I transcribe to the best of my ability but by darn it if I can't understand what the dictator says, I leave a blank, and they fill it in.  That's what transcription is about.

I need sample dictations with their final notes.
Hi,

Can someone suggest me a place to find a few sample dictations with their final notes, so that I could evaluate myself?

thanks

philips

Yes, I did e-mail Lee. Im still waiting for a final response. nm

IRS is the final arbiter on this unless their ruling is taken to Tax Court

Below, you'll the link to the IRS page on this question. Paste it your browser.  Or, follow the link at the bottom of the post.

As companies exert more and more control over the work, it gets harder and harder to see how most of them can take advantage of hiring people as ICs.  I think the IRS has taken their eye off this ball in recent years.

One thing of SPECIAL NOTE: On this page you will find a link to a form called SS-8, which EITHER the company or the worker can file with the IRS for an official determination of your status.

It can take awhile to get this back, but in the meantime, if you're an IC you might want to ask your company whether they have filed an SS-8 for this determination, as the IRS recommends companies that use IC's file this form.

Lawsuits? YOU are responsible for final product, sm
VR doesn't claim to put out a perfect product and never will.
No, the MTSO is responsible for the final product,
and when they give you a garbage platform and force you to fly through reports to make minimum wage, it's too easy to make mistakes. They know this & don't care, and THEY are responsible for the product they are selling. If your brand new Toyota explodes, you don't sue the assembly guy, you sue Toyota... so bwahaha to the MTSO.
I can't wait to make the final decision today!!!
I am sooooo tired!!!! This is exhausting. LOL I know SoftScript was very organized and already has me ready to go with signs and everything, but am still a little leary of them as far as rigidity and strictness. Transcend seemed a little more flexible, not that you don't have to follow your schedule, but they give you 90 days to get up to speed and Softscript only 30.
I have never heard of that....always waited until regular pay day to receive final check.
Any company I have resigned my position from, I just received my final check like usual on the regular pay date scheduled. No big deal, it was always in my bank when it was supposed to be.

Where do the pathology MT's
work who are being pd  cpl.  You say this like this is standard. I have never heard this.  Can you be more specific?
pathology
hey all.............anything happening in the world of pathology?  any at home positions with this field out there?  any hospitals hiring in pathology department?  just wanted to kick this one around.......................thanks
Pathology
I would love to know where in MQ the path gets done; would love to transfer there. Info?
Pathology

I would like any and all opinions and comments on how to go about getting pathology accounts as an IC working on-site.  How much would you charge?  What are the good markets (city, state, etc).  Would you stay local or go national?  Is this a good specialty to get into, is the work and accounts stable?  Ok, thanks all!

RE: Pathology
In my opinion, the nature of patholgoy transcription, especially histological, which is dictated in two parts (micro, gross), necessitates it is done on-site/in-house, and in the area where I currently live, all hospitals do not outsource this portion of their transcription; done in either pathology laboratories or within a hospital itself. Again, my opinion only.
pathology
I'm in northwest indiana, just outside of chicago....
Pathology
For many years I was an IC who worked at home for the path department of a huge teaching hospital. It worked out very well.
Pathology
I would love to know companies that need pathology transcriptionists.  I have 12 years experience in pathology and LOVE IT!  I am currently doing cardiology because I can't find a pathology experience.  I would love if it someone could tell me who needs pathology transcriptionists!
Pathology
I live in Georgia.
I was told this morning that it is in the works, final paperwork signed last Friday. sm
My single coverage is only $184 a month. I do not know where you heard over $500.
I'm very curious; why do pathology MTs get 13 cpl,
nm
unfortunately radiology and pathology
will see a great decline in the number of MTs mainly due to voice recognition. A lot of companies that are developing VR platforms are focusing on these two specialties since they tend to be more monotonous than your basic acute care dictation. I also personally think that hospitals are now starting to oursource their radiology and patholgoy work more now because of this and to cut back costs.
Pathology transcription
I was wondering if you would be willing to tell me who you worked for at home doing pathology transcription? I would really like to get back into but not many jobs available.
Thanks

Andrews School....radiology & pathology
I called Andrews School today just to see what they had to offer.  The person I talked to said that radiology is like pathology and is typically done in-house.  She also stated that in about ten years that radiology AND pathology will be eliminated departments in most hospitals if not all.  What struck me though was her surprise when I told her that radiology is done by many at-home medical transcriptionists.  I beg to differ with this lady because on the MTJobs.com board, I always see companies looking for at-home radiology medical transcriptionists, and quite frequently mind you.  I would like some feedback about this please.  Is this lady talking out of her ear (and I think she is.)  Do you think radiology AND pathology will be eliminated as departments in the future?  Is your opinion that radiology is frequently done by at-home medical transcriptionists?  And what is everybody's opinion of Andrews School?  Personally I think they are incredibly expensive.  She quoted me 3800 bucks for the course with a minimum deposit of 1000 dollars.  And she didn't seem too worried about quality but rather my typing speed and how quick I could get through the course.  Any and all information would be greatly appreciated.  Thanks.
Acute care versus pathology

I did pathology transcription for 13 years and have been doing acute care for 8 years now.  Pathology can be very detailed, especially in the hospital surgical setting where you have a lot of surgeons performing every type of surgery imaginable.  The specimens run the entire anatomical gamut.  If you are going to be doing pathology in a laboratory setting, such as LabCorp, your work will be repetitious and you should be able to use many macros. Also remember, in pathology you will have no meds and no equipment to research.  In the hospital surgical setting, you would have more detailed anatomy dictation than a typical hospital OP note, but you will not have this in the typical laboratory setting.  Pathology reports are also completed in stages that are dictated days apart, and that is the biggest difference between them and medical records type work, in my opinion.  If you have been successful in doing acute care for any length of time, you will be able to do pathology and do it very well.  My concern would be that you would become bored with the work.  In a lab setting you will probably be doing lots and lots of prostate and skin biopsies, and biopsies taken from EGDs and colonoscopies.  Best of luck in whatever you decide to do.  :)

That's ridiculous. If you have ever typed a pathology report

you would know that.  It is sometimes a double process, typing the gross and then going back in and typing the microscopic.

I cannot fathom how anyone could offer so little money for those type reports as the terminology is extremely technical.

Anyone ever worked for LabCorp as a pathology transcriptionist, etc.

Would be interested to know about their benefits.  I have been offered a position as a Lead Support Transcriptionist and pay range is from 16 to 22 dollars per hour and they mention a whole lot of benefits on the website.  I know, I can ask them in a couple days, but am so anxious, just thought I would though the question out to see if anyone would respond.

By the way, LabCorp still has in-house transcription, so if your'e looking for work at a company try them.  If you have done acute care, you can do pathology.  I am an acute care transcriptionist myself.  They also have laboratory assistant jobs if your'e just tired of transcription as a whole.  I believe they start at about 13 an hour.

Keystrokes has an ad for a pathology transcriber on the job seekers board. sm
Is Pathology easy to do? I have 8 years in acute care but have never done pathology or radiology and might be interested in a change.
Acute Care versus Pathology.... After 28 years as an

acute care medical transcriptionist, and working from home the past 7 years, I have decided to go back out in the workforce.   I have an interview on Monday with LabCorp as pathology transcriptionist.   After almost 30 years in the medical transcription profession, and at age 50, I am facing no retirement benefits, no health insurance, no sick time or holiday or vacation time.   I know it's a little late to wake up and smell the coffee, but I figure in the next 15 years, I may have a little retirement to look forward to.      Anyone working for LabCorp know anything about the benefits?

Is $15.00 an hour good pay for pathology transcriptionist at a LabCorp
with bennies, working in-house?
Is $15.00 per hour with excellent benefits good pay for a pathology transcriptionist
There is an ad in my local newspaper for this position, and I am considering applying.  It doesn't mention anything about incentive, so I doubt that there is any, but the way the transcription industry is going, I think this may be my best shot for the next 15 years.  As I turned 50 yesterday and looking to retire at 65.  They have pension plan and 401K with match, long and short term disability.
Training on the system, not paid, but if you are physically typing reports then you are getting paid
nm
Oh, yea -- PAID, too. Grandmother PAID LEAVE would be a great drawing card to TT !!

Just love that PAID TIME OFF !!

Any company that makes you wait to get paid until they get paid by the client
is not a company you want to get involved with. That's part of being an MTSO, figuring out how to cover your payroll while waiting to get paid. I would stay away!
Is this a live count of lines paid for or same as CTRL I that we do not get paid for ?? nm
m
Me too.. the outsourced company was paid for and paid me for headers, but OSI does/did not.
x
I have always paid yearly and have never paid or been assessed a penaltly. nm
nm
Be glad you get paid tomorrow. We are paid on the 1st and the 15th, so sm
since the 1st is on a weekend, we don't get paid until Monday.  It will happen again on the 15th of August …sigh.  It is the only thing I do not like about the company, though, so I guess a few weekends of poverty a year is not too much.
Lori never paid me and now ETC has not paid my friend.
What is WRONG with these companies?
Is it still being paid on time if you are paid on the 1st and 15th.....
and if the 15th falls on a Saturday getting paid on the 17th?  My bank is open and posts on Saturday that means I am not being paid on the 15th doesn't?  This has happened a lot lately.
At least you get paid, I would rather be paid late than not at all. Just my 2 cents.
nm
Yea, at least u got paid. Everyone who worked for TSI is STILL waiting to be paid

I don't understand how Jayne cannot pay us.  We have christmas coming up.  I bet her family has a fantastic Christmas because she is using OUR money to pay for it.  I worked so hard for her and I know the other girls did too.  How insulting that she will not return phone calls or emails or PAY us.  How does she look at herself in the mirror knowing that the MTs who did all the work FOR her did not get paid.  She even sent me an email saying I give you my word HAHAHA her word is nothing, obviously.  Well, I will call the attorney for the THIRD time and see what is going on.

To the poster, at least you got paid even if it was late.  I sincerely hope you get your last check.

Spaces, paid or not paid. Do you know? sm
I just started with a company and when I asked specifically if I would be paid for spaces, they said yes.  When I started using their program I noticed that the line count for each job did not include spaces.  I checked it with more than one program.  I called them and they said there was a glitch in the program that would be fixed.  It has been almost two months now and that glitch is still not fixed.  My checks do not include spaces either.  No one at the company knows what is up.  I can't believe I am the only one at this company who has deduced that they are not paying for spaces.  So, do you check your line counts to see if spaces are included?  You might be in for a surprise.  Man, I am tired of being burned when I am a reliable and honest IC.  Maybe time to do something else.  Thanks for listening.
