Do you have ample work, or do you often have to resort to MT work to fill the time?

It's not very good. I sold Avon for a year to supplement my MT income
and I didn't make squat. They are the worst. They shorted at least half my orders, you have to pay to ship back items that customers stiff you on. MT is better than selling Avon.
You have no idea what you are talking about. My income tax return says I am making a good living

This job is only good for extra pin money for people that have other regular income coming in.
It may end up being a good job for people that are experienced and on social security and have other investments now for some extra money. Would never want to have it to pay all bills. No way.
No I am not a troll, but I did find a job. Good for me
I found a job as a medical secretary and that is good enough for me right now. It is not the best situation, but I will get some SUM tapes and practice. Thanks for the advise.
Good luck wherever you go...hopefully you find the right fit for you...

Let us know if you find it!! Good luck...nm

Why test to find out their pay is not good?
The recruiter should answer the question regarding pay before wasting time on testing. JMO.
Good luck!. When you find the company, let us know. sm
I'm in the same boat.
I have been looking and hope to find a good 'home' soon! NM

i didn't find the communication to be good
well, it was as long as i said everything was rosey. Soon as things weren't so perfect, they became much less than friendly.

Good company, for sure. Find one where you're SM
consistently safe from overhiring--and then come back and give all the rest of us the name. In the meantime, for me at Webmedx most days have plenty of work, although some days require adjusting my schedule during the day to the work flow.
You know, evolving electronic capabilities and patient needs have now led hospitals--our employers' clients--to expect the very quick turnaround needed. Years past have taught home MTs we can work when it suits us. Is it any wonder that MTSOs are currently doing their best to deal with these realities by overhiring when needed? Webmedx is trying to stabilize this situation to everyone's benefit--economic at least for us--by pushing its MTs to meet our commitment of hours per week while still allowing some flexibility.
I'm MsIndigo and I approved this ad. :) Best wishes whereever you land.
Anyone find Oracle to be a good company?
I was just referred to Oracle Transcription Services. Is this a good place to consider switching to as an IC, as this is all they hire. The flexible schedule of an IC definitely appeals to me.
Anyone find a good home at Softscript?
Any feedback appreciated.
Good - Find someone else to spew your venom at
You must really have a heart on for LandMark the way you jumped all over MY post when there are a few posts in this thread that said the same thing I did about companies going to VR. I said NOTHING NEGATIVE about LandMark.
You're obviously someone with a shell of a life who has nothing better to do than LOOK for reasons to start internet squabbles to make yourself feel superior in that delusional little world you've carved out for yourself, probably eating en and Jerry's by the quart and rarely seeing the light of day.
I feel sorry for you.
Do yourself a favor and step away from keyboard and get some sunlight on occasion. Perhaps you're lacking in vitamin D.
Gee, I tried real hard to find those good posts,
but all I could find, in addition to the other complaints already listed, were complaints about being in the "middle of an 11-minute job when it was pulled and given to someone else," "There has to be a better way NOT to make a living," "I know I am going to end up on food stamps," complaints of no compensation for down time and BTXT being down and MTs not being notified.
If there were one or two positive comments about it on there somewhere, they are certainly overshadowed by all the justified negativity, outrage and frustration that's there.
I wouldn't wish this company on my worst enemy, and you should be ashamed of yourself if you recommend that anyone apply there for employment these days. It used to be a good company, and like the song says, "Used-to-be's don't count any more." Although I don't expect them to "bring me flowers" I do expect to be able to earn a living wage, and those days are quickly disappearing.
Make your own nest. Find a couple of good
accounts, multiple companies if you have to. Work on them every day just to stay on top of it. I used to bend over backwards to try to help where needed, but all I ever got was kicked in the head, so now I just do my routine. When they start appreciating people, (and not just an occasional 'oh how wonderful you are' when they are backlogged and know you can do a lot of work), by some type of recognition like a raise or promotion, then you can go back to being the nice guy.

Does anyone that is currently or had worked for DSG find it rather difficult to get a good line
count for some reason.
Question for anyone currently with DSG. Do you find it is difficult to get good lines there.
I started recently and seem to find it rather difficult to get a good line count for some reason. Help appreciated.
Unlike the poster below, I did not find the ESLs good dictators at FN. sm
In fact, in my over 20 years of experience, they were the worst I have ever heard. We got way more than 3 e-mails a day, too. More like 10 to 15, beginning for help and sometimes bordering on threatening. If you are really good with ESLs, you MIGHT do okay. But who wants to put up with that?!? No bennies either. Glad I am long long gone. The grass really is greener.
I think you would be doing good to find a reputable company, much less by putting qualifiers

How many accts did you experience in 3 days? Been there for a few months and so far so good. I find
but compared to where I was the lines sure do add up, and I absolutely love my acct, supervisor, tech people and QA! All have been great!!
well believe what you wish. I do know what I earn
and I have no reason to lie about it. I made almost $70,000 one year as an MT so it is not as much as I made as an MT, but it doesn't kill you like being an MT.
My benefits are also fully paid, which also adds to the bottom line.
I completely concur. Find a good one, or move on, quickly. No loyalty involved. The don't sm
have any to the MTS. NONE of them.
I can earn PTO if I exceed
the specified line count each pay period. I am eligible for the dental/vision insurance (which I took), and the FSA (which I did not). I will also be eligible for the 401K after a year. So far, so good.
One way could mean that you could earn commission by
giving your employer or former employers client information to this type of person and if they landed a client then you would be paid the commission. It is a very unethical way of doing business and it is not condoned on this site.
I think $14 is low. I earn $18 an hour
and have been paid over $16 for the past 5 years. I realize many do not make that much, but if you have lots of QA experience particularly in difficult areas such as ESLs and ops, all work types, etc., one should not take less than $16. I work at home with benefits.
Thank you! My thoughts exactly. I earn more
than that but if I could not get it, I would not do the work.
I agree with that - you do have to earn it
I am with a great company, and I work my tail off. I absolutely love what I do for a lot of reasons. I was introduced to this by a neighbor years ago and found the whole thing very interesting. Working at home is a huge bonus, so I got the education and experience. I have had a couple of experiences where I have left a job and most of that was simply due to not having the work. We rely on my income and I think that a lot of our fellow MTs really do want a when i feel like it job. Then again, those people just make the diligent hard workers look that much better!
I am not an old timer by any means but I know MTs with double my experience who are constantly offered low wages simply because they have built a reputation and/or tested poorly.
I get paid very well and the company knows that. I am an IC but I work every day consistently. When extra help is needed, I do it. This board really is just like walking into a hospital -- you can immediately tell the difference between the nurses who went into it because they are caring and want to help others and those who went into it for the money. You can tell the MTs who went into it because they find the work challenging and want to contribute to good patient care and those who simply wanted something convenient for them.
MQ looking to earn a living
With ASR making money is getting tougher and tougher. Years of transcription experience counts for nothing here.

Companies have to earn loyalty (sm)
Besides, all prospective employees go through a background check. It's not like these MTSOs are completely in the dark. I cannot believe (or can I?) that some companies ask for people's screen names to monitor stuff they say on a message board. If they're that petty and paranoid, there's good reason for it, and I betcha dollars to donuts it has *absolutely* nothing to do with MT attitudes. If anyone is spilling inappropriate information here, there's a moderator to take care of that.
BTW, now that I'm happy with my company, I am loyal. In fact, I'm so positive that when *I* post on here about my job, people often give me this oh, stuff it, Polyanna attitude.
The only thing that could possibly get me to leave is the promise of all that money getting my own accounts would bring. I don't think I'd like to deal with all the hassle involved, though...but if someone had a Powerpoint presentation to convince me it was easy as fallin' off a log, I'd be very interested!
Any companies out there in which one can earn $500 per week or more?
Just curious
See the TransRAD ad for 7 cpl? No one can earn a living on that! If you see this
how many hours did you work to earn $126? - nm

Yes. I earn almost $40,000 working 32 hours a week. nm

I don't believe it - I work there too, have to earn my money - but I love it there.
Well I do earn a pretty decent salary
and I am not talking anything under $50,000. I have heard of some of you recruiters who earn $30,000. I would not do it at all for that. I know one woman who earns $58,000 as a recruiter. I know another who earns $42,000. I know another who is paid per head and I won't do it because that forces you to hire anyone.
For what I earn, yesI will keep an open phone line to an excellent potential employee.
I agree with tt112. Let them earn living at the
Oh yeah, I forgot. A lot of other countries don't hand jobs to offshore entities at the expense of their own countrymen. Btw, what country are YOU from?
No outside income
I do support myself and my child on my MT pay only. I work for a wonderful company, which I will not name because a lot of people on here always have bad comments to make about them, paid by the gross line and can do about 2600 lines in 6 hours. It is just a matter of finding the right company and, for me, having the right attitude. I know comments are going to be made that no one can produce that many lines in 6 hours but remember, they are gross so you have to take away 25-30% of the total line for cpl.
income
I have not made that little of money since the first year I got started doing MT. You consider that good money??? If I made anything close to under $30 an hour I would consider it a very bad production day... I am not trying to brag either. I am just amazed that in this day and age and for what we have to deal with day in and day out, that $24 is good money.
My income is way, way down
due to lack of work, and I see so many people in management resigning and I am worried.
MT IS THE ONLY JOB WHERE INCOME...SM
decreases on a yearly basis, as opposed to other industries where your salary is supposed to increase with each year of experience.
Ah, Michelle's a little tattle-tale!! Trying to earn some brownie points!
