Disillusioned....Sue's description sounds like the company you just left

except for the rental fee, which they JUST changed recently, and even then it was higher than the one Sue quoted.  I still say you got a much better deal with Amphion.

This sounds like the company I just left!
I wonder if the MTSO has changed the name of the company? If it is the same company, I think you are wise to drop them and do it ASAP.
She is right on in her description of the company
and their management style.  People who lack experience and qualifications are the ones who are promoted.  There was an MT at OSi who was on 100% review for months and months.  She was then promoted to a QA positon, and while in that position was on the easiest clinical account they had.  BUT, the client demanded that she be removed from doing QA on their account.  And then, guess what?  She was promoted to QA manager.  Many, many, many good QA Specialists and good MTs have left.  Like somebody earlier said, OSi is the perfect place for newbies.  It is not the place for MTs with anything on the ball.  You should honestly check out the whole management staff.  It is very comical.  OSi is a joke.  Sorry to upset your apple cart!
Sounds like the job description for most. As Elmer says, be vewy, vewy qwiet...nm

Sounds like where I left. I do ESL very well, sm
but not as fast as English speaking dictators, so I was taken advanntage of by being paid the same line rate as the MT who cannot do ESL. In fact, at my current Hospital Radiology position, we had an MT who said she always tells the MT Nationals she can't do ESL, and that way she makes more money, how about that????
It sounds like you and I left right around the same time!
I left back in February 2007...just as things were starting to get really bad. I know that they were in danger of losing my primary account. I also heard that they had a massive layoff of US MTs that following summer. I'm so glad I left when I did! I remember feeling like a 10-ton brick had been lifted from my shoulders when I left SPi and started with my new company!
Sounds like SoftScript. The left hand never knew

I am disillusioned with TT...
and have been for some time now. I am too qualified for the jobs I have applied for or they don't pay enough, but will definitely keep looking. You can always do better somewhere. I know that a lot of people are leaving TT, especially over the insurance hike. I agree they are the best company I have found so far, but I still believe I can better my position elsewhere. I believe I have maxed out here, truthfully, and I don't agree with the way some things are done but I can't and don't say a word about it. Unfortunately, the top jobs at most places are given to the peers and friends of management. They basically disregard the qualifications of people they don't know - sad, but the way this business works. It does not work this way so much where you have face-to-face interaction so I may even consider doing that again.
Evidently things haven't changed since I left. Sounds like they've gotten worse - LOL

I am disillusioned too and every time
I read this board, I get more depressed. I often wonder why I come here. I think it is to be at the water cooler. I also got a few job leads which were really good. I never would have landed my job with TT if it were not for this board.
However, I come on here to see what is going on and I am somehow always getting into the negative mood of everything here. One day a company is great and the next it isn't. One day being an MT is great and the next it is the worst. My goodness, I can get mood swings on my own without coming here and being swayed toward that bent.
I guess what I am saying is it is my fault I come on here and absorb the negative. But being an MT is difficult at home because we are working pretty much alone without companionship. But being here every day I question my job, even when I have resolved not to do that. I know the insurance went up. It went up everywhere. Some how if I had not come here to see what is going on, I think I would have worried less, trusting the boss' e mail they are trying to do better. I would have left it at that and not thought of leaving. But no, I come on here and see that other people are not happy, so I start wondering.
I am pretty sure this is the last time I am posting for my own good. I will miss the companionship but not the negativism, and as I said, I blame no one but myself, because I am the one taking the nay saying to heart.
TT as far as you are concerned, I am going to stay until you prove to me personally you don't care about me or my paycheck. The management has not shown that to me yet, and so I have no plans on leaving. When TT does hurt me personally then I will consider leaving. Best of luck to everyone. But please, if you agree at all with me, don't think negative. Think objectively.
Many Disillusioned Individuals
Me included.
Part of your post is exactly what disillusioned mentioned.

Your post said : My question is this, however, what if  high producers are treated differently than others? They are kind of like the employee who is always at work, on time, positive attitude versus the employee who calls off, is undependable, bad attitude.  Which one do you think would get better treatment?  That is pretty much a no brainer if you ask me!  There are also those MTs who are great employees and do the basic line count required of them.  They receive the basic pay that they were offered.  What is so wrong with that?  That is the effort they put into it. That is not always true.  I can tell you countless times that I went above and beyond what was required of me, and I had always, repeat always, found Transcend a good place to work.  Until recently when I started noticing little discrepancies with what I had been told and read from management and what had happened in actuality.  That doesn't mean that I am just going to up and quit, but it certainly does put a little bit of distrust into the equation, making it hard to believe other things that I'm told.  It doesn't mean I'm undependable, not at work, or have a bad attitude even after I had been told one thing by management and seen another.  But you also must admit that it is a little hard to express dissatisfaction internally within the company when it had been noted that a lot of concerns expressed internally were labeled as "emotional outbursts". How can one not become dissatisfied when our concerns are just dismissed as emotionality? (Just a side piece of information, I was not one of the MLSs accused of the emotional outbursts, but I just found it intimidating from a standpoint of expressing concerns in the future.)

You said: I scored 100% on all my tests for hire with Transcend.  I have 9 years' experience in clinic transcription.  I was hired in full time, benefits, etc.  I work on a clinic account and have a secondary that is hospital.  No, I did not have hospital experience when starting at Transcend.  Being the great company that they are, they were willing to train me and enhance my experience for both our benefits.  I make 0.0850 cents per line. I have a schedule, however, do not always work my hours but different ones according to what is going on in my life.  I dont ask if that is okay, I just do it.  If I cannot work in the morning, I do it at night.  No one has ever said anything to me about it because I do my lines.  According to what I was told when I tested there years ago, I received the same test score, came in with 10 years experience in acute care and have more than 5 different accounts now ALL acute care, including some of the most difficult accounts. Yet after years of working with Transcend I still do not make what you do. As far as not working your regular schedule but just fitting it in according to what is going on in your life, how is that dependable?  Our work group has been instructed not do to this not only by our A.M., but also by Larry because then you are stealing lines from people who are scheduled to work the ones you fit in around your lifestyle and it makes it harder for production to know how to schedule coverage. Yet, you say no one has ever said anything to you about it.  This is exactly what was meant by preferential treatment.

This is why I don't totally agree with your post.  I am not so unhappy that I am going to quit, but yet it really isn't fair to totally dismiss concerns of people like me just because you are having a different experience with the company than others.

Job Description

I just read this by a poster:  No, MTs are NOT supposed to KNOW if a med is generic or brand. HOW COULD WE?

I sat here scratching my head thinking, is this person SERIOUS?  Do they TRULY believe that they don't need to know simple things like if a drug name is brand v generic?

I read so many people here dissatisfied with the gig they are doing.  Getting fired for no reason.  Ticked off at QA when they only had 6-7 errors.

What is it you think and MT *DOES*?  The job is to translate the spoken word into an accurate and coherent record.

That's what the job REALLY is.  And to take pride in knowing you did just that with the emphasis on ACCURATE.

Yes, the pay sucks for some services. We all have the option to CHOOSE who we work for.  If you can't tolerate the pay, then don't take the job.

Your JOB is to produce a chart-ready, accurate medical document.... and yes, Virginia sometimes that means you have to recognize that when the doc says, pulse 142/90, that the report needs flagged; and it might mean you have to look up new cancer drugs or whether or not something is brand or generic.  If you're doing your JOB, then you learn what's brand or not and don't have to look it up; you know just where to go to grab oncology studies; you know what sites/references are accurate for surgical terms.  You DON'T demand that it's not your JOB to KNOW how to make an accurate medical document.

And if your retort is that services pay crap so you give them crap?  Well then please, PLEASE don't complain when you're also TREATED like crap.

PRIDE - it's gotta start somewhere.

just by the description of the job, sm
needing someone certain days and certain hours makes this an employee position!!!!! At the very least, it might be able to be called SE (statutory) but I am not sure about that one. I am sure about one thing, an IC position IS IS NOT!
Meditran Description
Hi there. I understand wanting any and all information you can get, been there lol. Meditran is a small family owned business located in Odessa, Texas.  We were cruising along really good all these years, but then two weeks ago one of our MTs was in a horrible car wreck that killed her husband and critically injured her.  She is doing okay now, but as you can imagine unable to work.  Well this took out two of our MTs as her mother also worked for us. Then we had one MT whose computer totally crashed.  Another MT whose step dad is in the hospital with not much time left. So as you can see we are scrambling. Those of that are working have been completely covered up.  The owner is also an MT and has always hired locally.  This has not worked out very good for one reason or another. So she asked me to place an online ad and see if we could get some help that way. This is strictly and orthopedic account that we need help with.  I have worked for this company for going on four years.  My checks have never been late. The owner is very laid back, she is not a nitpicky person, she just wants the work done and done correctly.  This account does not go by BOS, they have their own standards, which we would teach you. I hope this helps answer any questions anyone may have and if there are more feel free to email me at RoseMT37@aol.com.
Unbearable is a really strong description
for an account.  I've read similar on other forums, so think I may pass.  Difficult, challenging, OK. Unbearable = a bit scary.
Really?! That's news to me... what's my new job description and what are they paying me?
Since you seem to be in the know....
Just left a company that kept doing that to me!
I also worked on 4 accounts with VERY different account specifics. I wonder if we are talking about the same company here? Also, I was shifted from one work type to another. Then I got thanked for helping out. The only people it helped out was them because I had to work my fingers to the bone to achieve their line count requirements! Each day literally became a marathon. When I inquired about the need to have me on so many different accounts I was labeled hard to work with and was treated very rudely. I am not a newbie MT either - I have more than 6 years of solid experience in many different work types, acute care, and multispecialty clinics. There are better companies out there. Good luck to you.
That's why I left the O company
!
Has anyone left MDI-MD for another company and.. sm
been glad they did?  I have worked at MDI-MD for about 5 years and feel they have overhired as my accounts are often low on work.  Keep seeing good things about Keystrokes and Transtech (and sure other good companies exist) and have wondered if I would be better off there or somewhere else. If anyone has advice and doesn't want to post here please feel free to email me. TIA!
which one? give a short description and I'll let you know if Im one of many
.
I'm back. Just read over job description. No PTO is right. Thanks for pointing that out. NM

Found this description of FMLA eligibility

Employees eligible for leave under FMLA are those who:

· Have completed at least 12 months of service with the company, and

· Have a minimum of 1,250 hours of service during the 12 month-period immediately preceding the

commencement of the leave, and

· Are employed at a company that employs 50 or more employees within 75 miles.

What if you've already used FMLA leave before, or you think you may use it again in the near future?

You may wonder if you still have FMLA leave available to you. TriNet uses a rolling 12 months

measured backwards from the date an employee uses any FMLA leave. In other words: you’ll look at the

end date of your requested FMLA leave, then look back 12 months to determine if you’re still entitled to

any of your 12-week FMLA leave within that period.

Amen tto that. If you left the company,
how long did it take for them to send you the stuff to return the equipment? I resigned on 2/25/06 and still have their equip. Have emailed supers with no response. I have been toying with the idea of emailing the CEO. I wonder how long you have to keep it before it becomes yours? Any lawyer out there who knows the answer to that???? TIA
I left a company for asking me to help compile such
How would anyone yank my chain when NO ONE knew I was resigning from my current company (had not yet turned notice) and NO ONE knew I had accepted a position with a different company? Please explain that one to me as you seem to know quite the Merriam Webster of the MT world.
I left a company as soon as got email saying they were

I left a company when they started doing this.
I was getting all of the crap work and it took about an hour just to get 100 lines. To make things worse, this company didn't even pay for spaces. Needless to say, I left and went to another company. Pooling is never a good thing.
I left that company earlier

They have no communication. I arranged to have a week off as I was moving. This was totally arranged and okayed. Then they took me off the books because they said I did not report to work and had abandoned my job. I explained the situation, and they had to sign me back on with direct deposit, etc. Evidently somebody did not communicate with somebody else in the company. I quit.

I am in a wonderful job now and am glad I went elsewhere.

I left MQ too...got a great job at a new company. nm
nm
I agree with you!!! I also left a big company for this one and
it's been just a few months and I love it. I don't dread work anymore!!!! No regrets.
I am in the same boat, too. I left a company...

that was always late with a paycheck to work for a new company.  The new company was okay but my hospital was so huge that learning every doctor put me behind the curve.  I tried VR because I thought it would help me catch on faster, and it did, but I am finding my overall VR production is still only 20 to 30% over what I averaged straight transcription at the other company (and they were shorting us 15% on our lines).

I am also extremly frustrated at having to do all those admnistrative things.  Looking up CCs, looking up patient demographics, changing work types, looking up who signs off on this resident, looking up the spelling of this doctor 7 states away...come on.

Control copy, put in in text description, name it then save.

It sounds like a new company that
since they want so many lines per day.  NOT IC IN MY BOOK!!  JMHO.....
What company is using this? Sounds like something new here. nm

I just left a company after 10 years, making only

I noticed that when I left DSG to work for another company...
my lines increased dramatically...don't know if it is because of the ESLs on the account or what, but lines were so hard to get.
Sounds to me like this vulture of a company
and is trying to cash in on the goods! Don't do it! Just when you thought people couldn't sink any lower....like the Heartland scum......you get vultures trying to take advantage of someone and kick them while they're down....makes me sick!!!!!!!!!!!
Sounds like a horrible company to me
They pay 5 cpl, charge you if you send reports to QA, and only pay once a month. Also, someone posted an article about the owner below that was in BusinessWeek. It states how much debt she is in cuz she's not aggressive about making sure her clients pay her. Also, she charges 12 cpl, but then only pays the MTs 5???!!! Why would anyone work for a company like that?
That sounds like my last company...I have a better home now,
But I am more and more afraid of how long that will last with insurance and bills going up and wages staying the same or going down. Scary times.
Thta sounds like my company. They sm
don't want to pay overtime, yet they have to keep TAT.

I have a crazy picture of one company sending work over to another company!

(That's a joke, before anyone has a knipchin or anything, IT'S A JOKE.)
Actually that's sounds like something the company bully would say.
They let other personal issues bleed into their work environment and feel they have the right to bully all the MTs they can, because they want everyone to be as miserable as them. There is no room for rudeness to anyone by anyone. Thankfully I work at a company that would never tolerate that bad attitude and people treat each other with respect. It is very refreshing.
Sounds like you work at my company.
They never respond to calls or e-mails and, when they do, it shows they never understood the question or problem. LOL.
sounds like the company I worked for
Happened to me, too. By any chance, is this company located in Colorado?
I just left a company due to lack of work, Monica.

I left them to go with another company using the same platform and I made tons more..
It has to be in their line counting and they must not pay for spaces, headers, or footers even though they claim to. I did not know the difference until I switched company. I was shocked that I made in 2-3 hours what I struggled to make in 8-10 at Focus.. As far as I am concerned, they are a huge rip-off and on top of that, they have their Indian QA people checking your work, and if it does not meet their standards, you pay is docked. It was quite disturbing to say the least.
Ditto. Please don't buy a computer for work from this company. I left (sm)
this company because of lack of work.
The company sounds wonderful, by chance....
do you need a really dedicated Radiology MT????
Sounds like you work for the company/account

I do FT.   I'm 17 hours short this week.  Fortunately there is plenty of work today, my day off.  I won't be able to get any overtime but hopefully I'll be able to make up most of those 17 hours.

Sounds like my company - starts with T, ends with D.
No work to be found.
Dang, sounds like we worked for the same company before!
I agree; I was scared to death to make a change, but the opportunity to work for KS just fell in my lap and after a rough (slow) start I can truly say I am glad to be working for them.

I was kind of impressed by the year-end survey, which came to me shortly after starting. I like that kind of proactive approach.
Sounds like the company I work for now. Horrible
it.  The company in general is also very, very strict on QA, so there's never a relaxed minute as the newbie on the block, and the cliques! Its cruel. I feel like I'm in school again, getting left out and laughed at and even set up for failure.  There is always someone calling out sick, etc., as you describe, and I am told I always have to be the one to cover due to seniority, or my lack of it.  Its so upsetting that I'm just about to throw in the towel myself.  I'm sorry I can't recommend anyone other than MQ QA, but I heard they are no longer hiring QA staff.  They used to pay really, really well and the conditions were fine.  Best of luck to you.
