Grady Hospital in Atlanta, Ga. The news is reporting that patient info was stolen by some transcription employees who worked for an outsourced company who again outsourced some of the work. Anybody know which company does transcription for Grady..I'm just curious. Please email me if you know.
Here is the article from the Atlanta Journal Constitution:
The FBI is investigating the theft of medical records of patients at Grady Memorial Hospital, officials said Friday.
Grady spokeswoman Denise Simpson provided few details on the thefts that were discovered late Thursday. She said it remains unknown how many patient records were stolen, which patients were affected or how the records were stolen.
The records pertained to recorded physician comments that Grady sent to a vendor to transcribe into medical notes. The records were stolen from a subcontractor employed by the vendor. The missing records were kept on computer files.
Grady officials do not at this point believe the records contained patients' Social Security numbers or financial information such as credit card numbers, but Simpson emphasized that investigators are only starting their inquiry.
Simpson did not identify either the vendor or subcontractor.
We sincerely regret the occurrence of this breach of confidentiality of patient records in the hands of one of our vendors, Simpson said in a prepared statement, and we are hopeful that our quick response to this theft will significantly reduce any negative consequences for our patients and the physicians who care for them.
She said Grady would notify the patients as soon as possible.
It is unclear who might have stolen the records or for what purpose, she said.

MEDICAL RECORDS STOLEN
I watch the news out of Atlanta. The story they are handing out about the stolen medical records is that the company Grady outsources to outsourced it yet to another vendor and that is where the records were taken from. Sounds like, to me, it was offshored through their original vendor!! I would love to know the REAL story!!!!
When I MT'd inhouse in a hospital medical records dept.,
the hourly pay was around $9/hr. I had plenty of experience too. The lady there who had about 25 years of experience made around $12/hr.... I have no idea why it was so low. That's why I ended up working for a service at home. As low as VR pays, that $9-$12 is starting to sound good though. What a shame this profession is.
Call the hospital medical records dept and ask who does their transcription. They will tell you.

Wow -- that sucks!! I hate to hear that for you guys. sm
I just talked to a recruiter on Thursday, told her I would let her know my decision by the middle of this week (today). I guess that would be a huge resounding NOOOO from me. Who sits around and comes up with these policies??!!!
Should have added that I would especially like to hear from those with hospital emp status. nm

That's terrific. I rarely hear that a lone MT gets a hospital
account, so more power to ya!
Grady
Me too, years ago. Who were you with? Email me if you would like but I am pretty sure that eTransPlus has them now.
wow! one of my best friends is currently at Grady
He was admitted on Tuesday, still not discharged. I'll have to call him to see if he is aware of this dilemma.
Only former CyMed emps got their info stolen, right?
This has only happened to SPi employees who were former Cymed folks, right? I haven't heard of any SPi employees getting the letter...Anyone have confirmation or know otherwise?
Drop them an email. Mine was stolen. I received a nice empty envelope.

Anyone that applied with Kathy Kirby hear anything yet? I am wondering how long it takes to hear a
response back
Diskriter off off offshores - and on some hospital accounts - they have not informed the hospital

Jewish is the main hospital, St. Mary's is another hospital under their management. (nm)

First for hospital, then outsourced still on same hospital work
and believe it or not, the hospital was so much easier. Had worked at the hospital for 11 years before they outsourced and then worked another 3+ years for the company they outsourced to. What a difference! The company had so many rules and regulations you could hardly keep up with them all, thousands of them, on the same account, mind you. The higher ups would not leave you alone, constant IMs about any and all. I have gotten to the age where I do not need all that and walked the other week. Have scheduled testing with another hospital for this month. Hope I make the cut, love the hospital work 1000 times more than a company.
I said MAY NOT hear, didn't say you wouldn't hear. There is
a difference, and many people have said they knew they didn't do well on the tests, but still feel like they should have heard from companies and haven't.
Few cents here, few cents there stolen from you by

Records theft
All the more reason why we should as MT's in this United States of America band together, go to Washington DC and protest!!!..I am more than fed up with seeing our skills and profession as a whole ****ardized by outsourcing. I think it would be a good idea for us MT's on this board to seriously consider a sound strategy we can utilize to make our leaders listen to us and take us seriously. Perhaps this is wishful thinking on my part but if we could put something together, I for one would be willing to WALK to DC if I had to (and with the price of gas out of control; I might have to) - to make ourselves heard.
records theft
Amen
Which is EXACTLY why U.S. medical records should
Their poverty and desperateness to survive is exactly why something like ID theft has certainly got to be too big of a temptation to ignore.
that's what happened with the VA records and
the whistleblower from Q is no blacklisted.
and .... that is no different than with paper records, so ...

Digital Records Corporation
Does anyone out there work for Digital Records Corporation, MTs, that is? Need to know if you have to have a C-phone as the only way of working for them? Will be taking their oral part of test on Monday, but she would not tell me any specifics about them before that ! Whatever else you could tell me about them would be greatly appreciated. All I know, right now, is that they do pay for the spaces, that is a plus for me, because now I don't get paid for that ! Thanks.
i was offered at 8 cpl for medical records w/o ops

anything about this company - good or bad? I would appreciate your comments. Thanks.
Anyone know about Digital Records Corporation? sm..
It looks like they have a GREAT benefit package. Any information from current or past employees would be greatly appreciated. Are their benefits as good as they say? Is there plentiful work?
Digital Records Corporation...
Check out their website, http://www.relyondrc.com...That is the one that I am referring to. Thanks.
Anyone know about Digital Records Corporation?
Any positive or negative information will be appreciated. I've got to get out of Medquist.
I think people don't realize those records are THEIRS
They are YOUR medical records. My sister is a nurse, and I used to work for a medical malpractice attorney, and I was amazed at the errors I would see in the MR. Plus, my sister says - those records are yours. You are entitled to view your medical records any time you want. You can't view someone else's, but you surely can view yours, and NEED to view them for accuracy every once in awhile. When we moved recently, and my husband was given his records to take with us to a new doctor, I was amazed at the sloppiness of the records. I loved our doctor, but considering the fact that her staff took my husband's history, and listed he was allergic to Doxacillin (he is actually allergic to doxycycline) - made me think twice about whether or not I would ever return to that office. Pitiful.
Medical Records Company
Anyone heard of Medical Records Company. Ive never seen them on here before, but just looking for info. Thanks
SmartMed and Digital Records Cor
Anyone work for either or test for either? I see that ad has been at top of page for SmartMed and had 2000+ hits and wander what is the story - no one posts about them. Also never see Digital Records commented upon except for pay by the stroke a little bit down the page.

Medical Records Corp
Hi there. Not sure if I am correct but I used to be with Medical Records Corp out of Florida and then it was just MRC and of course, Medquist bought them out. Is there a different Medical Records Corp you are talking about? Sorry if this info is wrong.
Medical Records Corp
I am talking w/them now. Just did testing today. Seems like a nice lady that I talked with. You do know that they don't pay for spaces don't you?
Medical Records Corp.
Worked for them for a very short time. Very unorganized. Ran out of work the first week almost everyday within the first few hours of my shift. It did not work out for me. Had trouble getting my paycheck as well. Maybe things are better now.
Digital Records Corporation
sold out to the Indians and is now called Acusis.

Most people don't even know their medical records are
good sense to occasionally pay the fee, and have ALL your medical records sent to you for review. And not just the bits and pieces they CHOOSE to post online, if your medical provider has a patient website. Those are highly edited. You want to know EVERYthing that was dictated and typed. ESPECIALLY if you're having medical problems, insurance problems, your doctor isn't taking your illness seriously, etc.
One time I took the usual, illegible Rx to the pharmacy to get meds a specialist had prescribed for me. Was shocked to find out they were the same meds I had told her DIDN'T WORK at the last visit. It was clearly there in my previous report, too, so there's no way she could say she didn't hear me when I told her. She heard me alright, she just didn't check my medical record when she ordered the meds.
EVEN WORSE, at the next visit, she ordered a muscle relaxant for me that I was ALLERGIC to! (And that had been in my medical record for YEARS.) But apparently the origin of the more recent reports was slightly in question. No signature, and no one would verify to me if they were typed offshore or in the US.
So, in addition to educating people about their SS #'s, etc. going offshore, educate them that when something in their medical care is fishy, to become a detective and find out WHERE their reports have been transcribed. My quess is OFFSHORE.
Public Records - Nuance
http://dockets.justia.com/search?q=Nuance+Communications%2C+Inc.
I ran across the above Federal Case Dockets while searching for something else entirely. Anyone know why Nuance Corp. is involved in so many and what they are about? One of the complaints is racketering. What is going on?
Looking into medical records and include
this into the criteria to hire somebody or not, yes, this I would regard as overall discrimination.
But to be subjected to a hearing test to be hired for an MT job, is not discrimination of any sort.
VR and messed up medical records
I agree. I have a friend who asked me to look at his medical record that he obtained from the hospital and I found a lot of mistakes that would not be made had they not used VR and the MT Editor had not missed those mistakes. Like lists. Instead of a vertical list, it runs the list altogether. Impression 1,2,3 and 4 are in one big paragraph. No punctuation, words run together. Yes, there will be lawsuits.
I see errors on my OWN medical records and
so, are heads going to roll because of that? Someone typed in I had hypotension when it is really hypertension, someone said I had MRA done because of abdominal pain, never was abdominal pain. My mother was sent some wrong medication from the drug store and you think anything has come out of this?
all medical records should be electronic.
