I am a former Transcend employee. 

I do hope all current and future employees have better luck than I did.

When I would ask about  lack ofwork I was told sometimes it was necessary to be flexible so I tried working at night. 

The platform I worked on had a queu wih all t jobs and you had to take in  that order.

At 10 PM there would be upwards of 100 jobs in the queu.

Then mysteriously they would vanish.  It was interesting that if, and I do mean IF, there any jobs were left they would be  ESLs or impossible dictators . 

There was no way they were not sent somewhere---- the average worker would be unable to sort the good from the bad dictators because the jobs had to be downloaded in order. 

As I said, I wish anyone with them good luck.  Some people must have had good luck.  I did not.  My team lead left shortly after Trancend aquired the company I was with.....mabye things would have been different if she had stayed. 

I work for a decent company and am relatively happy, although it is IC work, and I do not really feel like I am treated like an IC.  I basically am anchored to my desk morning, noon, and night so I can be there ... but then again, it is not like George Clooney is banging on my door to whisk me away anywhere, so most days I am thankful just to have a job.  I did get a promising lead for a company that pays 2 cpl more than what I make now, but I will know more on Tuesday.  Still ... the selling cheap crap gig is very appealing.  I've never gone crabbing but that sounds good too.  

but was anal retentive when it came to punctuation.  You would have a report with 10 blanks in it because of poor sound quality, and he wouldn't fill in one blank, but he had put commas all throughout your report, or taken apostrophes out, etc. and he wasn't correct in his punctuation a lot of the time.   Several of the MTs complained about him and asked to not have him do their QA, so he was demoted from QA to an MT.  Well, as I said earlier, he couldn't fill in a blank.  I saw a couple of his reports and there was blank after blank in reports that I had no trouble with at all.  He also didn't proof his reports because he would have inapproriate/incorrect expansions in them.  Not sure if he left on his own, or didn't really have a choice.  Anyway, talk to your supervisor.  Maybe this person is just on a power trip, knows you are new and wants to train you to do it her way, even if your way isn't incorrect.  I think punctuation is a valid issue, but if it doesn't change the integrity of the report and there are no other errors it shouldn't be flagged by QA.    You could also take into account her corrections and maybe try to use a few more commas, etc. and that might help.  

I am busily updating my resume while my new (NO) Rewards package from MQ sits next to the trash.  Looking over ads in the job board, several I am interested said "need software for DSS files."  I feel really stupid here and am not sure what is DSS files or the software needed.  I am ashamed to ask.  I am a good MT but after so long with MQ I have not had to look for a job in many, many years so feel out of the loop so to speak.

Please explain DSS files and what I would need to purchase.  Thanks so much.

DSS = Digital Speech Standard.  Simply the format the voice file is in.  Some recorders use memory sticks, memory cards, flash cards, etc.  Just depends on what make of hand-held they are using as to what format the voice file is in.  As BayGirl said, most software plays them  without problem.  I use WavPlayer and have not had one I could not play yet, or could not get a free plug-in download to play them.  

Are you testing or is it actual work?   Please elaborate!!!
