Cymed Benefits Package for New Year

Posted By: disappointed MT on 2005-12-16

Anybody out there got an opinion on the new benefits for 2006?  Extremely disappointing, to say the least.  You would think that a company who claims to be the 3rd largest national would have more to offer to those of us who tirelessly make their position in the industry possible.  It has become painfully obvious with this package that they have lost sight of whose backs upon which their growth has been riding.  Maybe it's time to move on.   Any place you folks can point a loyal veteran MT desiring an employer who sincerely appreciates hard work and is willing to reciprocate?

Keystrokes announces 2006 benefits package sm

Keystrokes has finalized the benefits package for full time employees and has received great feedback from our MTs.

We wanted to share these so that you get them straight from the source rather than in rumors and heresay.

To be FT, you must produce a minimum of 12,000 lines (acute care), 1200 reports (radiology) or a combination of the two.

After 90 days, all FT employees are eligible for:

2 sick days, 2 floating paid holidays, rate x 1.5 for holidays worked, 3 days bereavement pay for immediate family, 1 day bereavement pay for extended family, 401k plan (with vesting schedule for match), health insurance (paid by employee) and life insurance (paid by company), direct deposit.

After one year, FT employees are eligible for 5 days PTO.  After three years, FT employees are eligible for 10 days PTO and after ten years, FT employees are eligible for 15 days PTO.

After years of changes due to growth, we have deemed 2006 a change-free year and have put in place many surprise perks for our MTs for this coming year.

We value our transcriptionists - both employees and ICs and want to make Keystrokes the employer of choice.

Give us a look ... you will like what you see.  No more awkward growing pains; instead you will be treated with the professional respect you deserve while enjoying a personal touch!

Thank you to all who have helped mold the company into what it is today - we could not do it without the support of our transcriptionists, customers and supporters.  We even thank the critics - their criticism allows us to improve :)

Happy Holidays !

I will start there on Sept. 8. They have a nice benefits package, sm

and the pay via the incentive tier seems fair and easily attainable, although since I have not started on the account, I cannot really say for sure -- if it is an atrocious account, then of course that changes everything.  I have not read anything bad about the company, though, so to me that is a good sign.  I will be using ExText, which I have used before, so that is another plus for me.

As for choosing between IC and employee, I guess that depends upon whether you need the benefits.  If you do not need the bennies and are still interested in working for them, maybe you could negotiate a bit higher line rate ... I do not know, just guessing.  They also have a bonus program if you keep to your schedule each quarter, so that is a nice plus.

Good luck with whatever you decide.  Like you, I would like to find a home.  I have an IC position that I love and will probably never totally give up, but I would like to have the benefits and some of the tax hassle erased.

Cymed benefits
Care to say why you didn't take the job and where you ended up? I've got to move on.
Cymed benefits

Apparently the benefits are different for different divisions, and in ours they have cancelled a life insurance policy we had which they paid for, and drastically changed a disability plan without telling us.  Presented new plans without being up front about the cancellation of one and reduction of another.  We all realize healthcare costs are rising, but it is more how it was presented, and the seemingly continuing attitude that the only way we will ever make any money is by typing more.  If this company is growing at such a rapid rate, then somebody is obviously making big bucks, and it certainly isn't their MTs.  It no longer means anything to large companies such as this to be a loyal, knowledgeable, and team-oriented employee.  They don't seem to realize that the company is saving money by retaining high producers who can generate and are perfectly willing to do the work of 2 average MTs, thereby saving them the expenses related to the additional MTs.  Makes no sense to me.  Doesn't it mean anything anymore to have a working relationship whereby managers and their employees work toward a common goal?  Are they letting their clients drive our salaries?

If any of you can help point me in the direction of perhaps a smaller service with employers who appreciate their experienced MTs, please share their name.  I'd almost rather work for someone who made me feel appreciated, paid me me well with no benefits than a company who talked out of both side of their mouths, and never recognized your contribution.  Time to walk the walk.

Anyone who started with CyMed this year still with them? What do you like about them? nm
cx
I work for them...benefits this year suck
God help us if we get sick. They deductible is sky high and no meds coverage. I can't believe they boinked us that way. I'm checking into other companies.
What package?
??
How about not getting a package at all and

when you call a week after it was due to arrive, in their little computer it comes up that it WAS delivered a week ago, that the package was handed to some woman over the fence at that address, when in fact there is NO woman living there and the person living at that address was home all day waiting for the package with a clear view of the street and checking his doorstep every hour.  How is that one explained?

Whatever happened to them actually knocking on the door and getting a signature??  Twice this week I didn't even know I had deliveries until I opened my front door and almost tripped over them while walking to my mailbox.

Yes, it is a busy time of the year with holiday packages being sent in addition to their regular load, but if you cannot deliver it on time, don't take someone's overnight-priced package with a promise it will be there the next day and not deliver it.  I would be asking for my money back.  It was NOT delivered overnight as promised.  My mother will get the money (eventually) for the gifts that were lost IF she can prove it was not delivered or stolen, but what about the thought, the time, the gifts that cannot be replaced with money?

Look at the total package

Sometimes a great incentive program more than makes up for low CPL, also a good program, good dictators, how many templates and normals you can get.  I knew someone who consistently did over 2000 lines per day and did not work more than 8 hours, doing mostly OPs with ESLs, but they all said the same thing, used formats.  She just had to keep making her normals and inserting them.  They said the same phrases over and over, so she made big bucks.  Once she got used to them, it was a breeze and she was consistently one of the highest earners.

I would just keep checking other companies.  I am sure there is something out there for you.  Don't give up.

SPi versus CyMed...SPI is offshore and YES they bought CyMed...

CyMed is now part of SPi and will be merged into the company and will follow all company policies and procedures.    It's the only way the President, COO of SPi could grow the company and keep his job.    He has to grow through acquisition.  This means that at least 70% of all CyMed's business will be transitioned to India or Manila.     The US MTs working at Cymed should be very careful and start looking!!!!

How is their benefit package? Insurance costs, etc?
//
the benefit package for Diskriter is the only reason I am looking at them...nm
;o)
Feedback on Nuance transcription package
Just started the Enterprise Express software upgraded version in December.  There seems to be a lot of manual input to create documents even with the link to our ADT feed.  Any hopes of getting good production on this system.  We will be going to a voice recognition system in addition to the transcription package after the initial bugs are worked out.  After a month, I am just hoping things will start to fall in place, but looking for feedback if possible.
This is home based with full benefit package. (nm)
nm
If someone has the experience, the volume and the quality, whole package, they SHOULD be paid well.
Our employees, at 0.08-0.10 per line make $24-30 per hour. That is not peanuts.
I'd rather have my 6 paid holidays and nice PTO package at Webmedx sm
than any gift, anyway.
I've been very happy at DSG -- pay always on time, decent incentive package, sound quality probab

depends on account, mine has been fine most of the time.

my first year I made 16k. Doubled that second year. Going on year 6 with (sm)

two local accounts I earned 23,000.00 and a national I earned 35,400... 58,400 this year.  Don't ask me how many hours, though, I really have no idea.  I'm pretty motivated.  (When people ask me how many hours I work a week I reply as many as it takes  I'd say 40-50/week.  I am also a fitness instructer and personal trainer, about 5 hours a week or so.  Decent money (sometimes under the table!) but mostly I just do it for fun and to be social and wear cute work-out clothes.

that first year was a rough one... but I consider it part of my education.

I'm pretty motivated.

Last year, there was a letter sent that told us what we earned the previous year. sm
In the past, it has been all or nothing; if you did not hit the lines for full time for the year, you did not get PTO. I talked to my lead this morning about a last-minute vacation and she told me that the yearly packets are going out in a week or so and that the new policy will acrue PTO by the pay period or month. I like that a lot better, but she also made it sound like they are upping the amount of lines needed to acrue PTO. I normally get between 15 and 20,000 lines per pay period, so I am sure that will be fine but I am worried about the periods that have lower volumes, like most of January every year.
Webmedx lets you carry them from year to year sm
You can accrue up to 140 hours (I think) before you stop the accrual process. Don't have to use it all in one year.
I would stick it out, most places are slow now through the end of the year every year (nm)
x
Last year $36K part time, going to make more this year full time BUT sm

I AGREE it IS getting harder to make money.  I used to make $24 very part time 10 years ago and now...well it is Word and platforms versus WP5.1.  I got 7.5 cents a byte line then and I get 9.5 cents a character line now.  That IS a huge different in point of fact.

OH I WANT MY WORDPERFECT 5.1 BACK!!!!! Bwaaah!

The email said the owner as she is the owner of the email software package. sm
We got the list from AHDI. If someone does not wish to be on our email list, there is a link to click on at the bottom of those for opting out. We immediately remove those that click the link.

We also have a few mailling going out. Same thing - if you opt out of the email program, we will remove you from all contact.

We need transcriptionists for many new accounts and have ads on here and other sites, as well as several magazines. We are going to need over 100 MTs in the next 3 months due to new accounts and more work on existing accounts!
CyMed

Any current info on this company would be appreciated.  Specifically would like to know if they allow a flexible schedule, what their pay range is, what type of software they use, and how the staff is to work with.  Any info is much appreciated.

Cymed
I am surprised that you had a bad experience with Cymed.  Which office was you working out of?  I work for the Ohio office and the trainer is wonderful.   She is very helpful and actually everyone that I have dealt with so far has been great.
CyMed
TIA.
cymed
I talked to their Richmond office and was offered 8.5 cpl, but they do not pay for spaces. I have a friend who works for a different office and she gets paid for spaces, but they told me they had instituted a new policy and only the people who had worked for them before it went into effect still got paid for spaces.
cymed
I work for the Virginia office and you will never find a nicer group of people.
Managers are great and the tech. support is wonderful day or night.
CyMed
I was offered 9 cpl.  No they don't pay for spaces because they said they don't charge for them.  Everyone I talked to seemed incredibly nice except the trainer.  She was incredibly rude when she called me, so much so that I did not accept the job.  I told them about her too.  She seemed like a hateful older lady who really didn't have time for the likes of me.
Cymed
Cymed of Ohio does a lot of reports for the Cleveland Clinic. I also saw the article on the face transplant. I have worked for Cymed for 17 yrs.
Cymed
I work for Cymed.  I have been with them since July and totally love it there.  Great people.
Cymed
Do you mind sharing what office you are out of and do find it hard to get your linecount without being paid for spaces?
cymed
I work for the Ohio office.  I do not have a problem with getting a decent line count.  The platform is great and easy to use.
CyMed Pay
I know you would want to figure about 20% for the loss of spaces, but then the headers offset that a bit and the good platform. The 9 cents seems very low based on that if you are an experienced MT.
Cymed and pay?
Can anyone give me information on Cymed, pay?
Cymed
I was with MQ at one point too, but now with Cymed. This company is very MT friendly and I've always got work. They did not offer statutory employee, just PT or FT. FT gives me good insurance, vacation and holiday pay. What I like the most is my supervisor saying she wouldn't have her job if it wasn't for us MTs.
cymed
Does anyone else work for Cymed, and what is your experience
cymed
can you please elaborate
cymed
i have worked for them for about 1 year. great managers. easy platform.
cymed
I have worked for Cymed now for 17 years. I worked for the company under the ownership of Linda and Tom Lally before they merged recently. They are just like any other transcription company out there as far as pay etc is concerned, however, they do seem to care and work with their employees including giving incentives etc. The company recently helped out an employee living the the New Orleans area who lost everything she had. The company really came through for her. Good luck to you regarding which company you choose.
cymed

when i clicked Cymed in your note, i was directed to another page here and saw:

Cymed, Inc. is involved in Offshore Outsourcing (sending sensitive private health information of US citizens to countries such as India, Pakistan, Philippines, etc...).

cymed
Anyone working for Cymed that can tell me pros, cons, how many accounts they typically assign you, workload consistency, dictator quality, $$ potential, platform info, etc.  Just applied and want to make sure I am getting into something positive. Any info appreciated!!
cymed
I work for Cymed and have been happy. The positives have been their platform is the best I have worked on. I previously worked on ExText and like Chartnet better. You can be very productive if you stay focused. Also nice accounts and tons of work.

Someone always posts that they hear they offshore. It is my understanding they offshore a small amount of nonacute care work to the Philippines. Not sure if this has changed or not but lack of work has never been an issue.

Like anywhere else, a lot depends on what account you get but my experience has been positive and I feel the ability to be successful with this company is definitely there.

Cymed
Does anyone have info on this company?  I may be considering applying for one of their positions and would like to know if they have steady work, a good line rate, platform, and any other information?  Thank you!!!
CyMed
I cannot speak for Medscribe but have had a good experience with Cymed. There platform is excellent and there has not been any problem running out of work. We have actually had some bonus weekends to catch things up. Another thing I like is they pay every other week, direct deposit. The last place I was at was the 15th and end of the month and it just seemed like you waited forever to get paid. I don't think they are perfect, no company is, but they certainly give you the tools you need to be successful and then it is really up to you. Also, a very nice staff.
Cymed
Thanks, I will check it out!!!
CyMed again?

Well, isn't it just wonderful what they are doing to their MTs?  I also used to work for them, but went on to something else, as an IC - works out better for me, anyway.  Cymed needs to get with the program, and start paying for SPACES, also!!  They are always having meeting all the time - I think they are for trying to come up with ways of cheating the MTs out of their benefits, etc, etc, etc.  Their line counts even seem to be short on every pay, did not get paid for the actual typed characters either - seems THEIR lines were somewhat different than what I actually typed.

Cymed
Absolutely get with the program!! They try to tell us that the visual black character is becoming the standard demanded by the client and that it allows for verification of billing. What about verification of how the MT is paid? Sure they say they may pay for headers to make up for taking away spaces, but try to pin them down to allow you to verify how you are paid and see how they dance around that question. Shouldn't it work both ways? Shouldn't they be just as accountable to us as they are to the client? I say let's send a report back without those spaces and see how long it takes the client to reject it! If you want spaces you gotta pay for them!!

Admit it, Cymed. You are taking away our spaces only to line your own pockets and for the sake of growth. Give us some credit for our intelligence. How about slowing the train down and taking a look at how you have grown at such a rapid rate. Invest for a change in your employees and see what bleesings it brings.

I wonder how long Cymed would remain the third largest MTSO (which I don't believe) if we went on strike for spaces?
cymed
Why would you accept not getting paid for spaces? You're hoping they will make up for spaces? Don't think for a minute they are going to make up for the spaces out of the kindness of their heart. I don't understand how you have just accepted a position with them on the hope they will make up for not paying you for spaces. It's this kind of attitude that perpetuates the unfair practice of not getting paid for them in our profession.
CyMed
they tell you anything they think you want to hear but as soon as they get you hired its a different story. not enough work always running out. benefits are not good, very expensive. I am a single parent so not worth it for me.
