maybe it is just the bad applicants with chips on their shoulders and she really does know how to recognize talent from strut talk.

Being called on days off
I say you should be thankful about being called on days off -- think of those MTs not able to find work at all!! I certainly am grateful for whatever work I get.
They called constantly on my days off
Work volumes were so low last year they knew we were desperate - so they called at all hours summoning us for an hour here or there, totally ruined the possibility of having a life. I was full time and was working 7 days a week for less than 30 hours, they took all my PTO to round out my paychecks until it was gone, then expected me to sit by the phone and go bankrupt. Supe was not surprised when I bailed, after 2 months of blowing sunshine about how it would get better soon and it only got worse.
See, my company has these things called days off! Cool, huh?!?!
NM
In the "old days", the machine on my desk that played the tapes was called the transciber. sm
People who type the dictation are called transcriptionists. I realize in this new day and age where people would rather google, spell check and guess rather than look it up in a dictionary or other word reference and actually know the meaning of what they are typing, such things make little difference, but it means something to me. I also have hated the word typist since I do so much more than just copy type.
I know ... pay me and you can call me anything is the predominating theory here. I just have noted that it is usually the Indian-based company that uses the term transcriber.
That is what I just said. !0 days PTO, period. That includes vacation, sick days and personal days
They should have paid holidays so that you are paid if you take off. Also should inculde extra hours for sick days and personal days.
That annual raise of .002 is kind of a joke especially when at the same time they upped the minimum line requirement from 10,000 lines to 12,000 lines.
OSi just does not have the qualified people in management positions that I wish to work for.
I am glad that you are happy at OSi and all is working out for you. Their dishonesty and the way they treat people just does not work for me.
Of course they can get by cheaply by hiring unqualified people so that is very good for the owners.
He sounds human!!
Yep, he's correct.
Ok - so I had a typo. I am human ya know.
.
It's human nature.
Grass is always greener on the other side. Human nature. At least there will be green for Christmas! LOL.
Wow! It would take a human robot to do that every day.
It would take me at least 11 hours to do that.
human beings
There is a saying that most Americans are ONLY one paycheck away from being homeless. You say you can identify with being broke and impoverished, like those in India. Well, what if you are REPLACED BY AN INDIAN TRANSCRIBER and you become broke and impoverished AGAIN?
It is one thing to buy flip flops made off-shore from Walmart, quite another thing when VP Cheney's 4 heart bypasses and pacemaker insertions could be vunerable to prying eyes in off-shore in India, or worse their next door neighbor, Pakistan, where AL Quaeda is hiding in the Pakistani mountains.
ANYMORE QUESTIONS!
Can you be human for a minute?
Please, Carlotta, get off your high horse for a minute. You know darn well that accounts have been overstaffed in order for MDI to shine for their clients in regard to TATs. There is a lack of balance going on here whether it is over hiring or something else. There is NOT ENOUGH WORK! We have been out of work for WEEKS! And, Carlotta, you hound the hell out of people and threaten to bring their wages down to an impossibly low rate on a prn basis if they don't live up to their committments in a near-impossible work environment. You are transcription's version of Hitler.
Did you read any of the posts below? Did you read some of the concerns that REAL people, VALUABLE transcriptionists are having? Why don't you or the owner care? You rule with an iron fist, Carlotta. When you try to say how great the company is, it's a real slap in the face for those of us who are out here in the trenches trying be a part of the MDI team and very little in return.
You, MDI, should have an overall feel for the accounts. No, you cannot predict, but you can give us some insight if accounts may be winding down because they are moving to EMR or changing service providers or whatever. You could be decent enough to guide us in the right direction so that we could continue to be valuable to MDI and support our families. No, no, instead we get hounded and threatened about line counts.
Did you read below, Carlotta, how we do go to our 2nd, 3rd, 4th and so on backup accounts? Do you comprehend that we have to mentally change gears to relearn account specifics and the dictators and that really slows a person down? And on top of that, those accounts are SLOW, TOO!
Instead of telling us MDI has the best group of people (management) ever assembled, why don't you listen to the people helping you get your paycheck! Why don't you prove your greatness by being a better listener. Do you realize you are impossible to talk to because instead of listening all you do is e-mail responses that are criticizing and demeaning, to those of use who are sincerely trying to work hard for you.
Come on, please.
My capitalizations are not for yelling, just for emphasis.
Under Human Resources at top, then sm
I think it's under General. There is a link to the updated jury duty policy and then under that is the link to the employee handbook.
guess it IS human. nm

Tickle Me Elmo:
There is a factory in Northern Minnesota which makes the Tickle Me Elmo toys. The toy laughs when you tickle it under the arms.
Well, Lena is hired at The Tickle Me Elmo factory and she reports for her first day promptly at 8:00 AM.
The next day at 8:45 AM there is a knock at the Personnel Manager's door. The Foreman throws open the door and begins to rant about the new employee. He complains that she is incredibly slow and the whole line is backing up, putting the entire production line behind schedule.
The Personnel Manager decides he should see this for himself, so the 2 men march down to the factory floor. When they get there the line is so backed up that there are Tickle Me Elmo's all over the factory floor and they're really beginning to pile up.
At the end of the line stands Lena surrounded by mountains of Tickle Me Elmo's. She has a roll of plush red fabric and a huge bag of small marbles. The 2 men watch in amazement as she cuts a little piece of fabric, wraps it around two marbles and begins to carefully sew the little package between Elmo's legs.
The Personnel Manager bursts into laughter. After several minutes of hysterics he pulls himself together and approaches Lena. I'm sorry, he says to her, barely able to keep a straight face, but I think you misunderstood the instructions I gave you yesterday...
Your job is to give Elmo two test tickles.
Its human nature
to hear and see the bad. Bad always trumps good and the saddest part of all, the same people trashing it won't come back to post good things after they've tried it and were proven wrong.
every human makes errors.....
we get paid low enough as it is
Human? Must be on the cymed side then.
Definitely not the SPI side - those Nashville people are insane.
Firstly, you are a human being, you matter, and you
should never be told to just get out of the business, and whomever would tell you that you take with a grain of salt (because that is useless and usually speak that comes down from management to keep people where they want them).
Until women realize their full worth and potential, this is going to keep happening. Unfortunately, the majority sets the tone and there are too many people willing to work for almost nothing (why I do not know) but in my experience men who never allow this. Sometimes I think we get so preoccupied with wanting to BE like men rather than to make use of some of the good things, such as self-worth confidence but still being women.
Funny but as an aside I see so many young girls out in public and they are exactly the way young boys used to be when I was in high school. The roles have reversed rather than blending the good things of both men and women. That is my opinion
We are all human and things happen! No big deal. Just tell them
you will be taking test sometime during the week. No need to pressure yourself and hurt yourself for a test that you can take anytime.
you're gonna feel like a new human sm
being for sure! Congrats!
Company ok, but the human ratsources and payroll stinks.
They play good game of being KGB, screw up more than anyone else in the company, but never get in trouble, just keep compounding their mistakes. The wondeful programs to keep track of us never work right, but they are so nasty to us that no one wants to work for them. Why is management so blind?
They said they have very few IC positions, and this would be discussed in January with Human Resourc
thus they are going to try to get you to go full-time employee and get benefits and take a lower pay. Did you not notice how she was trying to play up the you will get benes now BS?
You bill 30 days behind, and they snail mail it so it's late - about 40 days from invoice
No way jose - they even messed up their direct deposit payments
Maybe she/he works 14 hour days/7 days a week? nm

They have called me twice and I have not yet called them back
Per your recommendation, I just might. Thank you.
I called and called and e-mailed my STM. When that got no
results I went over her head. Got another account, but with 3 accounts still not enough work to get in more than 20 hours/week. I worked a shift that was part 2nd/part 3rd. Some days OT was offered, but then there wouldn't be work the next day.
Would that be 5 business days or 5 regular days?
So when are we going to be paid this time around since you're so knowledgable?
Sorry, but for some of us a day or 2 actually makes a difference.
Most want 20 hours over 5 days, but it could be more, or it could be spread over 4 days. nm

It is true. Any job has its good days and bad days.
Perhaps you'd like to just keep your old job and try this one out. Just because a poster here is crabbing about it, or even if as in the past there have been negative posts, odds are that there are very happy people who don't even post or know that this board exists. As Alice says. Everything is relative. The fact that this company is hiring and pays may be a place which is a blessing. As opposed to digging ditches on day labor for example. Or somebody might prefer digging ditches. This is just an example. Sometimes we who are employable, even though we don't make as much as we used to in this business, or as much as we would like to, we still if working at home do not pay for gas to go to work, career clothes, deal with office politics, have to look at a boss who writes us up if we are a minute late, etcetera. I don't make half as much as I used to, but I don't send my 3 children to day care which by the way saves us money. SO I remind my husband I am worth that in addition to my salary if I had a job outside. No job is perfect. I am not even sure if Focus is any good or not, I have not worked there. But if one poster says there are good days and bad, I say that is the most honest answer you are going to get anywhere, and if you need a job badly, how is it to hurt trying it out, until you know for sure for yourself? THanks for listening. But sometimes this board gets to be a bit much with the agendas of people railing on other people like the OP here who just wanted all opinions instead of just one side. Balance is always great. And, if things seem lop-sided, then it is a good thing to seek out both sides. IMHO.
I think they would. Those are good days for 10-hour days. sm
I have a set schedule but it is Tues-Sat and it works well for me. It wouldn't hurt to ask!
90 days is correct. 3 days off 1st year, 10 during 2nd.
nm
Were the 2 days weekend days? sm
They expect everyone to work a weekend day. Their definition of team player is to actually work 6 or 7 days a week. One might consider it if the pay was there & she gave out some decent work. It is the ideal place to work if you are a workaholic with no life.
11 days is more than you would get inhouse...usually 10 days.
We have the convenience of working at home and yet you want MORE than what inhouse positions offer?
Ask if those are calendar days or biz days too nm

No one called you a joke, just called the post a joke because
we all know better, but you're entitled to your opinion. You're the one insulting saying those of us who don't like SS probably couldn't cut it and that is the reason for our complaints. You would be hard pressed to find anyone who ever worked for SS to agree with you about how wonderful they are. They aren't getting new accounts, yet they always have an ad running - umm, let me think why that is.
When I was called ...
I called Corporate back. I asked why were getting a call to verify we had received the letter. I was told that they wanted to verify the correct addresses for every employee, making sure each had received the letter, because our packets will be mailed out on 9/30 and are individualized as far as our base rates.
Personally, I would imagine that they have reviewed years of experience of MTs as well as the difficulty of accounts, as they have already stated, and come out with a tiered level of base rates -- the more experience you have the higher your rate as well as the more difficult the account you work on, the higher the pay...pay commensurate with experience and difficulty of work.
I bet if you called them they
would tell you.
They just called me AGAIN!!!
OMG! I am going insane! I just got yet ANOTHER call from a different person at SPI saying that she got a call from the hospital that I used to transcribe for saying that they had all these stat reports that were way out of TAT and no one at all on that account was working! Go figure! We all quit!!!! I don't know how much more I can take of these calls. I told her that I had better not receive anymore of these calls as I have made it more than clear that I don't work there anymore and haven't in 5 months!!! UGH!!!
Yes, it was a little different for me at first, too, but I called
Wendy and she explained it to me. Pretty simple now. Give her a call. She is always extremely helpful. Good luck.
Have you called them? They are more than
a little disorganized lately, but a phone call seems to take care of the problem.
Someone called me...
The female I spoke with asked if I could produce 1300 lines/day (I said yes). She asked about my computer system (it met the required specs). She asked if I had an updated Cardiology book (I said yes). She said someone would call me soon--that was last month.
some guy called....
and he expected me to start right then and there-no paper work, contract, nothing. What made it worse, in the middle of him explaining the system and wanting me to start then, he kept telling me to hold on because he kept getting calls. He finally said he would call me right back (in the middle of me learning the system). I never answered his call.
called
Jim also called me for radiology hire. Anyone out there ever work for them? So many out there that just are not worth the aggravation
Called them...
I called Silentype today, as is my practice when I am job hunting to call and see how their office is run etc. I asked for HR/Recruiting and was told No I'm sorry, not today... and they hung up. What a bunch of idiots, what if I were an MD calling for some reason to speak with HR about a specific MT? SKip them :)
It's also called
supply and demand. There are so many MTs out of work and looking right now that they don't need to pay top dollar, even to the cream of the crop. There are too many MTs to choose from.
They called me...
I think thats what the meeting was going to be about too
I called my supervisor...
I really struggled with the decision to quit. I liked the company (a national) and accounts, but I could no longer handle the 20-hour minimum for PT as I already work a FT job and it just became too much. She was very nice about it and understood. She is a good supervisor and I felt I owed her that much. I did give a 2 week notice.
There is a company called
in Texas that I would strongly recommend staying away from. I worked for this company for a little over a month but the platform made it way to hard to get any reports in. The pay was good but without reports, no $$$. Anyway, when speaking with these people I was told that they would pay for the return of the equipment if the position did not work out. When I decided to leave, I called and was instructed on how to return the equipment (foot pedal). Once doing this, I received a bill from Fed-Ex as now they are not going to pay for it. When I talked to them in June, I was told to fax them the bill and they would take care of it. Today, I received another bill from Fed-Ex. I'm going to pay this bill but I just wanted to let you all know how shady this company is.
When they are trying to suck you in they act all "Christian like" but when things don't work out the horns come out. Be careful!
Called her again today ...
asked about start date, schedule, etc. and told her I'd call her back tomorrow. Will probably be accepting with them, starting on 11/28. You know how it sounds too good to be true? I sure hope it's not.
