test master
I handle testing for a big company. I'm shocked at how many MTs fail testing when they list their years of experience. Most of the time, I think they simply are so puffed up about their abilities that they blow the seriousness of the test off. I've definitely learned that anyone boasting about their years of experience probably will do poorly.
We don't give out or test results either and those who test know it up front. I don't blame my company, either. People lie, cheat, and steal. I've had people try to take tests for others, lie about their identity, use other people's resumes to obtain testing rights, etc.
It's disappointing that this is the population we have to choose from. No wonder work is going overseas. It's worth trying it out since what we seem to be finding here are such underqualified, unskilled labor who demand so much and then refuse to do certain shifts, certain worktypes, certain dictators, etc.
I think the MT field is basically getting a slap in the face for everyone taking for granted the privileges and good times we had. Reality is setting in and nobody likes it.
Why, if you have master's degree, etc.
are you doing transcription? Hmm, let me guess- so you can stay home with the kids?
That's great! Congrats on your Master's.
What type of career field are you in now, if I may ask?
I am 40 and just started working on a master's degree and
a certificate in medical coding at the same time. I plan to get my doctorate degree also. It is never too late to learn. Go for it!
Hafta laff -- SM thinks she's quite the master of sarcasm.
What is considered
an average salary at today's rates for someone with 20+ years of experience who can do all types of medical reports but prefers to do op notes?
I had once considered them too
at the end of last winter when I was getting ready to change companies, but I ended up going with Keystrokes instead, and I am really glad that I did! I can't believe some of the things that Deventure has done lately. It just makes me sick. Do they have no ethics?
have you considered
or are you crosstrained? I know it's not always like this be right now for instance the account I work on is very backlogged...Glad to here someone else is happy with them though!
I think anything after 12 pm is considered
second shift, like 3-11, 1-9, 2-10, something like that. When I fill in on afternoons, I usually work 1-9. Hope this helps.
Believe what should be considered
is that not all ICs have the same arrangements for payroll deductions, for instance, one company I know of takes out for Soc Sec, Disability and state tax; only federal tax is left up to the employee.
Have you ever considered
maybe you're not a good MT? I mean, I'm not getting my wages cut every month and in fact I'm making great money. Maybe this just isn't for you? It's okay, it isn't for everyone.
You use your own computer, FT is considered
6000 lines per week, 1200 lines a day and part-time, I forget? Call and ask would be your best bet!
Actually, Andrews is considered one of the best
Definitely in the top two. Their graduates are very highly sought after. If they charge more, it's because they are very well worth it. If you do a search for Andrews School, you will see this is true. They are definitely not one of the rip-off schools out there.
Considered this company first, but now
I think there are too many company plants or pets posting for it to be real. Sorry. This board does not normally have people volunteering at will to ask all the pertinent information about a company with ready-made answers in all categories. Sounds like a few ploys other companies used and those companies were terrible.
TransTech- what is considered
x
Are lph also considered? I heard
that Spheris also required their MTs to be up to a certain speed by typing (or editing) a predefined number of lines per hour in addition to the daily lines and number of hours requirement. I wanted to apply to them once, but figured if they ran out of work all the time (which I read), I would not be able to meet their preset requirements. Maybe some other companies have this requirement to stay employed, so did not apply.
TT, what is considered 1st shift? What is 2nd?
x
have you considered an air card?
Check with Sprint, Verizon and some of the other cell phone carriers. I got a USB air card through Sprint, and the connection is great!!! However, there are several factors that come into play with these, including how far you are from a cell phone tower, but at least with a USB card, you could utilize it with a laptop or a desktop as long as you have an available USB connection. Hope this helps.
All things considered...
You have no right to pass judgment on MQ MTs who complain. You don't do ASR and you don't visit the pool often (and when you do it's 3 hospitals vs others 25). You are not in the same situation as most MTs at MQ. If/when you go through these changes and hardships, by all means judge away. Walk a mile...
What would be considered good pay for
an MT working a nat'l, knows the basic 4/multi-speciality, 10+ years experience? I was just offered a job for 9 cpl (65 character line/spaces paid), no bennies. Is that good/bad/ugly? Should I hold out for more? Opinions needed. THX
Has anyone ever considered that not everyone is cut out to be a great MT? Not everyone sm
can do every job. I personally would not be a good teacher, because my patience and dedication are not in that field. Unfortunately, I realized that 3 years into a teaching career.
To make money in this field, you need to be fast, accurate and focused. You need to be able to sit down, work for 8 hours and produce a certain # of lines or reports. Not everyone can do that, but it is not a bash on those who cannot.
Just because someone has been doing something for a long time does not mean that it is the perfect choice for them. There are options out there that might be better for you.
Doing something for a long time, no matter how hard you practice, does not always make you good at doing that. If that were the case, everyone that takes piano lessons can be a professional musician or every girl who takes ballet for many years can be a prima ballerina. Unfortunately, not everyone can be good at everything.
Trust me in this: If you look in your heart and find what you want to do and are good at, you will be a happier person and work will no longer be painful, whether that be as an MT, a teacher, a musician, a SAHM, or a circus performer. You have to find what works for YOU and being miserable every day suggests that it might be time to make changes.
Life is too short to be so unhappy. Talk to your husband and figure out something that can work for everyone. I am sure he does not want you unhappy all the time.
I've Considered That
I have several musical instruments as I have 3 now grown kids and I used to play in community band myself. I considered it, but there's only a 30 day limit on getting them back, and the amount they offer is supposedly about 1/4 to 1/3 of what you would get if you sold them outright, so I am worried that if I don't have things squared away in 30 days, I stand to lose $2000 worth of instruments (and sentimental value), not exactly priceless but still unlikely to be replaced soon, for $500-600. I suppose I could start with the one that would be missed the least (the flute) and take/reclaim them one at a time as necessary/able.
Have you considered medication?
For your Joan of Arc complex?
Have you considered keeping the job you have
while working for a new company, that way you can decide if you like the new one before jumping all the way in. Your old job can be your safety net. Just a suggestion. Good luck to you!
Congratulations!!
Hope it fits like an expensive shoe :)
(Don't let anyone burst your bubble with their personal philosophies.)
Congratulations on your new job.
I personally would call them. There are lots of changes going on and everyone is in a scramble. I certainly would not worry about appearing annoying, you need to know these things and the only way to get answers to our questions is ASK! What office are you out of?
Congratulations
Welcome to Amphion! You will really like it here. Everyone is very kind and helpful. Congratulations......I'm very happy for you!
Congratulations!!
That is great. I work for Amphion, and I believe you will find it a very good place to work. Very friendly people who are extremely professional and very flexible...!!
Congratulations!
How long did the process take? How long after you sent in a resume did you hear back from them?
Congratulations!! nm

Congratulations!!!
First of all, congratulations on your new position!!!! How much experience did they require you to have? I have only 1 year exp., unfortunately, in Ortho, but know that I can run with the best of them in this specialty. However, I have not been given the opportunity. Just wondering. Again, Congrats!!!!
Congratulations
on getting out of AAMT. Why does anyone need the CMT? It is ability that counts. I have been an MT for 38 years, have worked some some mighty demanding and good jobs and no one has ever given a fig about the CMT.
Congratulations .... SM
I hope it works well for you. I emailed with one MT who works there and she is very satisified with them. I am talking to them about a very PT clinic position and have gone back and forth but we need to get a time set up to train and I'm not getting a response right now. I feel there's probably a fine line in being aggressive and just wanting to keep in touch, and being a pest. I feel sure they will get back with me, but if not today, I will contact them back tomorrow. Again, congratulations to you!
Congratulations!!!
You are lucky, lucky, lucky, lucky to work there!!!!!!!! I would ABSOLUTELY LOOOVVVVEEE to work there too!!!! Good luck. Let us know how it turns out for you.
Congratulations! :-) nm

Way to go! Congratulations.
nm
Congratulations!
Congratulations! I know how happy you must be...because I am too! I start tomorrow and I am so used to volunteering for more than 1 account, I did that, but they said they wanted me on 1 and they will make sure there is enough work. All of the people who have set me up thus far, the lead, etc. have been so kind and I do believe that like you and others, this will be a safe haven or at least less stress than being out there in the world if you know what I mean! Again, congrats.
Congratulations!
Must not have what they were looking for. Seems weird since I have experience in all the specialties they listed. I will keep searching...
Thanks.
congratulations to
Encompass, Focus, and Sten-Tel!
Congratulations!!!
Glad to hear it!!
Congratulations to you!!!
Like the other poster, I have also been there only a short while (just about 3 months now), and absolutely love it there!! I never felt so enthusiastic about doing my job before. It is truly a pleasure working there. The people are wonderful and always there to help. The communication is excellent with the managers; there are 2 of them and one or both are always available for questions or problem, etc. You will not be disappointed. I absolutely love my job, and feel soooo lucky to be working there. I can honestly say, the grass is definitely greener on the other side!!!! Again, a big congratulations to you!!!!!
Congratulations!!
I am sure you won't be disappointed. They really are great. :)
Well, congratulations! s/m
I don't think I've ever heard of anyone making that kind of money in 2 years. When I used to teach, back in the old days when pay was a lot better, I told new MTs not to expect to make decent money for 5 years. Stedman's has a lot of strange words to get a handle on in such a short time. You must be one smart cookie.
I'm not going to say what I make because knowing what I make wouldn't put another nickle in anyone else's paycheck plus no one would know if I was telling the truth or telling a whopper. Just suffice it to say I'm satisfied and at the end of the day that's all that matters.
Congratulations
Please keep us informed. Maybe it would be worth the switch.
Yes, congratulations
My post below was not aimed at you, rather that nasty response you got from Miss Personality below.
Congratulations to you!!!
I have read all the posts below and I cannot believe some people!!!
That being said, I am very happy for you. I am what the lady below would consider one of the best - I make $50,000 a year working 30 hours a week or less, I have great QA scores, have never had any trouble finding a job or keeping a job, when they want a stat report done, they always call me because I can get it done fast, and yet, I am sitting here wondering what is happening to my job!!!
Outsourcing - maybe... economy - maybe??? I don't know what the problem is, but I know I am not going to have a good Christmas this year either.
I am in college right now to get a degree in accounting and get myself out of this world too. It has been good to me for a long time (17+ years), but like someone else said, it is a sinking ship and I am grabbing for a lifeboat!
I hope things work out really well for you in your new position.
Congratulations
and good luck!
Congratulations
Glad you finally found what looks like a fit for you.
Congratulations on your new job! :)
Hope it works out for you! :) I'm leaving MQ and will be starting a new job hopefully this week...I'm a little nervous but so happy to leave MedQuist...Good luck to you! :)
Congratulations on your new job!!
I wish you all the best!! I have also just accepted a new job, I am very excited about the job but just dreading the training and having to learn new things.
Again, here's wishing you all the best and keep us posted on how things go!!
Congratulations on your new job with KS (sm)
I too left MQ for KS 3 years ago and it was the best move I ever made. You'll like it at KS...
