Congrats! You are a statutory employee, not an IC

They do take a portion of taxes out of every check. But since you don't have any further benefits you get the 24 hour turn around flexibility. If someone else covers your health insurance, it's the best of both world in my opinion. Hope this helps.

Am I statutory or employee

I just recently started working for MQ.  Everyone is getting me confused.  First, I am emailed about a rental fee.  I called and told them I was an employee.  I got my first paycheck and they only took out state and federal taxes.  So, I am still as confused as they are.  I left 3 messages for payroll and 3 emails.  No answer as of yet.  Are they supposed to take out all taxes if I am a full time employee?  They only took out state and federal. Does this make a statutory?

Thanks for any infor.

I am a statutory employee and they take out sm
state, federal and Social Security. I didn't want to be botherered with the taxes and it was an option they could or I and I chose MQ to take the taxes.
Statutory employee
I was wondering if anyone could tell me the companies who hire statutory employees? I would like the flexibility of an IC, but I would like the company to pay half the taxes for me. If you know how I could find out which companies work this way, please let me know! Thanks!!!

Statutory employee
By definition an independent contractor (IC) should not be told that he/she will work 8 hours or 2 hours straight on a schedule. You give them the schedule you prefer to work and they accept that or reject it. The operative word here is independent. Far too many companies try to not do the tax thing and still want control of the IC. The IRS does not like that!
you are an SE, statutory employee.

They are IC/statutory employee so no
benefits, insurance, etc. Website is transmdi.com
Yes, they called it Statutory Employee or IC ... at least
that is what is says on my contract. ?????
Statutory Employee Status sm
Use Bayscribe platform.
Statutory employee. Work when you want

Statutory Employee Status
Please, can someone tell me if there are transcription companies that offer remote MTs employee status w/medical benefits.  Is there such a thing as a Statutory Employee and what does this entitle us to?
They only offer SE - statutory employee
Since they don't offer benefits, you're not classified as FT or PT.
Statutory employee versus IC.....
I know that being a statutory employee has some SS taxes taken out by the company, but does being a statutory employee mean a company can make you stick to a set schedule?
Part-time...statutory; used to be PT employee. (NM)
..
As a statutory employee, they take out FICA and match it. sm

Therefore, you do not have to file self-employment tax, like an IC.  You are still not an employee per se, in that you set up your own schedule/make your own hours.  You tell them how many lines you will do in a day, and every 2 months, you submit a schedule, telling them which days you will work.

You have to have your own PC.  You can rent a C-phone from them, and some of the accounts are going to wav files, and I think the company provides the wav pedal for you.

Hope this helps!

I had a hard time as a statutory employee, but
now that I am a regular employee and have to have a set schedule I am WAYYYYY more disciplined. I guess I actually needed that boss hanging over me (not literally, LOL) to make sure I work and make $$$$$. Best of luck to you.
Agree with poster below - MDI is statutory employee
There are no benefits.  It's basically the same as IC with the taxes taken out.  Did you think you were hired for employee status?  Don't mean to rain on your parade, but better double-check that.
NEITHER STATUTORY NOR EMPLOYEE STATUS FAIR..SM

I said it before, when MTs were first forced to go the employee route..it's all about control...same for statutory.  They have no right to dictate shifts/hours unless you're paid for your time by the hour.  In either, you only get what you produce, per production. You might think you're ahead with employee status because of benefits.  But what happens when you can't make your line count, even through no fault of your own?  The only square deal is IC status... you get what you pay for..no more, no less.  They don't pay for your time.. so they can't dictate a schedule.  What other industry would require a certain amount of your time and not pay for your time?  It would be different if they were to guarantee a certain wage per hour/day, etc... but they can't even guarantee there will even be any work.

SC meaning SE (statutory employee) and or IC contractor.
Still looking for help on employee positions with no VR which are good. Thanks.
Statutory Employee: What services hire SEs?
I have enjoyed the flexibility and tax part of being an SE with MDI-MD, but it seems very difficult to find any service who will hire SE.  I see IC or FT or PT, but not SE.  Could someone give me some leads?  I searched the archives, not much current info. there...thanks!!
full-time employee, but started out statutory (sm)
Good luck and I'm glad you're giving MQ a chance.  I think you will be pleasantly suprised. I know I was.  I was kind of disappointed when they called me back, but I really needed a job, so I took it, and four years later, I'm very happy! Good luck to ya!
Just curious, what didn't you like about being statutory employee at older job? sm
I'm thinking of becoming one so I'd like a heads up on possible issues this causes!!! Thanks.
Excellent! Congrats on finding an employee status job with decent compensation! nm

You report wages and expenses as a statutory employee on schedule C.
I don't know how the company is these days, but when I was employed by them, there were some very rude people who worked in the office. I suspect since they were so high up, they're still there.
Do they offer both statutory employee and independent contractor status? Thank you! NM
NM
Only employee and statutory employee..no IC

P.S. ''If we try employee status and decide it’s not for us, can we return to statutory employ

Congrats to both of you!
I'm glad you are both happy with your jobs. :)

Figured I'd say it.
congrats
thank you very much!!!!!!!
Congrats! :) I wish they had at least NM

let me know whether or not I passed the test or that they filled the position already!  Oh well, I suppose it was good experience! :)

The good new is, I was offered a position with 2 other companies (Echo and The Word Pros) and was able to accept both as The Word Pros is a p.r.n. position (sort of like a temp agency--you take work only if you want to).

I hope you love it at PMSI!

Just Me

Congrats.
Good luck in your new adventure.
Congrats
You must have a wonderful account with a wonderful platform.  Can't be MediTech, is it?  You were lucky to get a good account with good dictators and easy platform.  Right place at the right time.  Think of the money you will be raking in:)
Congrats!
Been there for a month and i love it. I have plenty of work and everyone has been very helpful as I learn the accounts, etc. They expect a lot but they give a lot too! Good luck and welcome!
Congrats!!!!
Would you mind e-mailing me with any info that you've been given. I'm not to that stage yet so until I get to talk with them some more I'm flying blind :(

Congrats to you!!!
I like to post non-critical questions on here as well. I hate to bug my supervisor unless I have to. I posted a question Sunday and got rude comments because of it. At the time, I didn't have my paperwork to look up an answer. I don't think there is anything wrong with asking questions here. That is what this board is for. I have asked my supervisor a ton of questions today and got very quick responses. I think people like to post rude comments because they either have nothing better to do or are just miserable in life. Who knows, maybe they hate their job and resent us for going after a better one. Anyway, post away. I don't mind answering anybody's questions if I know the answer and I definitely appreciate the answers I get on here! :)
Congrats!
Congratulations on the job!! Let us know how you feel WHEN YOU QUIT THIS ONE! LOL. Years ago, I was a regional manager for Transcend. They let me work my way up from at home Transcriptionist to QA to Transcription supervisor to Regional manager. At that time they were a great company to work for, especially since my local company was bought by them, and the transition was pretty good. I am not there now because I have kids and cannot travel anymore, plus I moved to a southern state where they did not have a presence then (no internet transcribing back then, only expensive long distance). If they are the same company as then, you should have a good career. Keep in touch with us, to let us know how it goes!
Congrats.........
for getting out of the Q!
Congrats! Let us know how you do!

Congrats to you. Did you ask during sm

Congrats!!!
You're going to absolutely love working for MDI. No games, no hassles, great communication, and for the most part really decent dictators, too.

Congrats on getting on board... :-)
Congrats! sm
Do have any experience doing medical billing? I've been looking for July for a billing position to no avail. I have 33 years as an MT. Unfortunately I also live in a very rural, job-depressed area. Again congratulations and good luck!
Congrats to you!!!
See, good things always come to pass... and it has for you! Happy Holidays and congrats.
Congrats...
I believe you'll be very happy with your decision to go with MDI-MD. I just can't sing their praises loudly enough.

Welcome aboard :D
Congrats
Too bad some unhappy MTs have to hit the Haterade so hard!!  You go, girlies!!!  Congrats....Gotta make the money!
Congrats to both of you
.........
Congrats!
You are going to love it...welcome aboard! Sounds like you may well be on the account I'm on. Will you be on the Escription platform? If you're on the account I'm on, I think you'll enjoy it.

Congrats again :-)
Congrats!
You'll love it here, I promise!
Congrats
Congratulations and welcome to the Keystrokes family. They are wonderful to work with and for. I am sure you will enjoy working with them.
Congrats
Nothing to add, but I just accepted a position also. I start on the 18th, hopefully. I was told 12,000 lines per pay period minimum, but I am pretty sure we still have to work the entire shift, even if we meet our lines. I can usually do 1200 lines in 4 hours, so I guess I will make some extra money (provided there is plenty of work!)

Good luck!
