Hired by Emdat or using Emdat software?
I was of the impression that Emdat was software, not a transcription company. Were you hired by Emdat to do transcription for Emdat customers? Or is the company for whom you work just using the Emdat software? Thank you.
They use Emdat software and pay only 7 cpl. nm

Actually, my hire date was October 9 last year
but since it was my first new job in almost 28 years, it was a BIG thing. I left the old job because my beloved boss closed down his practice to join another one, and the other group declined to hire me. Their loss. I was hired by a medium-sized national that just got acquired by a large national. We're 1 month into the new regime (so if we want to get technical, I actually have started a new job in the last 30 days) and the only thing that has really changed so far is the pay period is now twice a month instead of every 2 weeks. I still work the same shift, the same accounts, the same pay rates, the same supervisors and QA people, the same platform, everything.
There's been some grumbling on this board about the new company and how they lure you in with big promises and then you always seem to run out of work, coincidentally just before you achieve the gross pay required per period to be considered full time and thus eligible for benefits. Of course I can only speak for myself, but I haven't seen any such thing, and the only times I have run out of work (briefly) have been on or around holidays. If the work is coming in slowly at any other time, our people actually call the clients and ask them what's going on. (And then they send out e-mails to let us know what's happening.) I work a 32-hour week (by my choice) but probably at least 9 days out of 10, there is enough work that I could work a full 8 hours if I wanted to. (And this pay period I came in at 25 percent over the gross minimum--and I know for a fact my own pay rate is actually on the lower end of the scale, so reaching that minimum is NOT exactly difficult. At least not for me.)
We don't get a lot of extraneous e-mails, only necessary announcements and requests, and we're all on IM so we can always find somebody to help if we have a question. We are also not only encouraged but strongly urged to send ANYTHING doubtful to QA, even if we have to leave 100 blanks in a report. They'd rather have a QA blank than a guess. And QA has NEVER gotten the least bit snarky with me; even when it's been a real duh! mistake on my part, the worst I might get is a smiley face with a gently-worded note pointing out the error.
I have a co-worker who was hired the same day I was, on the same account. She has a neighbor who works for the company that just acquired us, and LOVES it; in fact, she was encouraging my co-worker to jump ship and c'mon over, until we all found out we were all comin' on over anyway, as of April 1.

Was there a short time last year. You work as an employee, not IC. Different software/diff. accts.

I just did tell you all the "bad stuff." If it's not enough, then
go ahead and work for them. The American MTs get the crap dictation for one. They just out of the blue fired a bunch of people, for no apparent reason.
I'm sorry but there are a bunch of companies out there that you could work for who do not offshore. If your skill level will only allow you to work for companies such as Focus, then you're not EVER going to make any money as an MT.
This isn't just about you needing work. It's about all American MTs needing work and a decent wage and not getting it because companies like Focus offshore! When MTs like you settle and take jobs with companies that offshore, you are hurting us all.
It is difficult to classify an account as "bad"
I used to transcribe for an urban hospital in a large city. I could make almost $40 an hour on H&Ps and loved the account. Another experienced MT on the same account thought it was hideous and couldn't understand why I liked it. The account I transcribe now can be pretty tough, but it is in a city near where I used to live so I like it.
When someone says they can/can't make money on an account, there may be nebulous factors that contribute to productivity. That being said, alas, sigh, I remember when I worked for a company that would give you as many accounts as you wanted (1-infinity) and if you hated an account you could get it deleted from your pool or exchanged for another. Those were the days . . .
Read in the archives that Mediscript (FL) is "bad news" Why?

Why so very few comments regarding Diskriter? Are comments by employees not permitted SM
on public forums. I have always been interested to see comments on this company, as they are constantly advertising and seem to have an attractive employee package. Unfortunately, never seeing comments on MT boards makes me extremely uneasy. I'm sure they could have stipulations in their contracts that prevent them from commenting, but even so I would expect to see good or bad comments even from ex-employees. Hmmm? Plus, if the anonymity is supposed to be in place on these boards, how can it hurt for employees to make a general comment, good or bad?
my first year I made 16k. Doubled that second year. Going on year 6 with (sm)
two local accounts I earned 23,000.00 and a national I earned 35,400... 58,400 this year. Don't ask me how many hours, though, I really have no idea. I'm pretty motivated. (When people ask me how many hours I work a week I reply as many as it takes I'd say 40-50/week. I am also a fitness instructer and personal trainer, about 5 hours a week or so. Decent money (sometimes under the table!) but mostly I just do it for fun and to be social and wear cute work-out clothes.
that first year was a rough one... but I consider it part of my education.
I'm pretty motivated.
Me too. As soon as there is a little extra work they hire and hire and then noone has any. This
goes on all the time. I get sick to death of it. I think having 2 part time jobs is better so you have 2 jobs to count on.
Last year, there was a letter sent that told us what we earned the previous year. sm
In the past, it has been all or nothing; if you did not hit the lines for full time for the year, you did not get PTO. I talked to my lead this morning about a last-minute vacation and she told me that the yearly packets are going out in a week or so and that the new policy will acrue PTO by the pay period or month. I like that a lot better, but she also made it sound like they are upping the amount of lines needed to acrue PTO. I normally get between 15 and 20,000 lines per pay period, so I am sure that will be fine but I am worried about the periods that have lower volumes, like most of January every year.
Webmedx lets you carry them from year to year sm
You can accrue up to 140 hours (I think) before you stop the accrual process. Don't have to use it all in one year.
I would stick it out, most places are slow now through the end of the year every year (nm)

Emdat
I've never used Netcare, but Emdat is great! Easy to learn, easy to use. I honestly have no complaints about it.
emdat
oh thank God! I thought it was just me. I worked for a half-day or so on a trial basis for a company using this platform several years ago and i never got how it could NOT stink!! I though it was because they send IMs every two seconds about the weather........but I spent more time on that platform trying to get it to work than I ever did transcribing anything.
Im so glad it was not just me. Emdat - never, ever again.
7 cpl on Emdat
In defense of Allegiant, this is without a doubt the PERFECT job for me. I work whenever I feel like it, nobody bothers me, and I'm only obligated to transcribe 500 lines in 24 hours.
I worked for a large company and made 10 cpl. I had constant interruptions with emails and IMs from an idiot supervisor. I had to research new drug names and instruments and procedure names on just about every report. I was tickled if I transcribed 150 lph. I worked for a smaller company and made 9 cpl and spent half my time with my foot on the backup pedal trying to understand ESLs. By the time my shift was over my head was splitting. I work for Allegiant, make 7 cpl and average 250 lph without breaking a sweat. Not too shabby. JMHO.
What is Emdat? (sm)
Please, what is Emdat? Also are you limited to transcribing 500 lines per day or can you do as much as you want? Thanks.

We pay significantly more than that at Lee Perfect. If you have 5+ yrs exp in a clinical/hospital setting that is current/recent. I would love to see your resume!!!!

Not a fan of EMDAT
I had the same problem. I cannot stand typing using the F1 function keys. I would call technical support where you purchased the foot pedal from and tell them your problems. If the foot pedal does not work on your computer then get your money back. I cannot stand EMDAT.
Former EMDAT user.
EMDAT
Lee Perfect out of Chicago and Allegiant out of Indiana use EMDAT religiously. Apply there. They are ALWAYS hiring!!!!!!!!!!!!
EMDAT
I know that Greenlight Transcription out of Oregon does, Phoenix Medcom, and Allegiant. All three are good companies and they always pay on time every time!
EMDAT
EMDAT is a platform that MTs use to type notes. It is very user friendly, but you have to set up your own auto correct. Your regualr auto correct from MS Word will not work, which I did not like at all. You have to purchase a separate foot pedal from the other USB pedals and it costs right at $100.00. Good luck!
EMDAT
The owner makes excuses as to why she has not done this or that. Some like it, but her pay is very low and no feedback for QA. I think you only get paid if she does by her clients. Do not know for sure though.
Emdat
Can anyone tell me about Emdat? I have an IN-DB9 pedal. Is that compatible? Thanks in advance!
Emdat
Not true. I worked for a company using Emdat for a short time and I did not have to buy a special pedal. I used my USB pedal, the same pedal I have used for numerous jobs. However, I personally did not care for Emdat. It conflicted with my version of Word.
Emdat
You might want to try Professional Dictation Associates (I think that is the name of the company). They pay over 8 cents off QA but why you would want to work on an Emdat system is beyond me. I hate it. I think that is one of the worst VPN ever, but that's just me. I know there are MTs out there who like it. I'm just not one of those.
EMDAT
Can anyone tell me how EMDAT is to work with? PC requirements, foot pedal, etc? Thanks!
I like Emdat
I've been working on it for about two years now - no real problems, very user friendly.
Emdat?
I find your post interesting because I am a fairly new MT and Emdat is all I have ever known. What do you feel is bad about it and what platforms do you like better? I'm really curious. I feel like I've got it pretty good, but if there's something better, I would love to check into another opportunity.
EmDat
I was offered a job using EmDat and have never used that before. Is it a good platform and easy to use? Can you get your line counts okay on this or does it slow you down. Any information would be appreciated. Thanks.
EMDAT
This is a great platform IMO! I found it very easy to use and very, very easy to get my lines in and then some! The only down side (if you want to look at it that way) is that for most companies now a days you have to have a special EMDAT only foot pedal to work with them instead of the old school use it with Express Scribe and multiplatform foot pedal. Good luck!
