Bwwwahhhaaahahahaha
Lots of people have been burned by them..be careful, very careful. NM

You MUST be proactive. By that, I mean call them...sm
don't sit back and wait for them to call you. They get literally hundreds of resumes at a time when a job is posted so one of the things you must do is get your name and resume before their face so they remember you. I always check back a week after I sent the initial resume, then again about 10 days after that if I don't get a positive response on initial contact. The worst a prospective employer/MTSO can tell you is no, so nothing ventured - nothing gained! Good luck!!!
Unfortunately, I did indeed research it, was proactive...
had the same problem the above poster had, could not get into the website, thought maybe I had the wrong website. Thank you for being so helpful and sarcastic.

Please don't encourage something like this!
praising. This Company board is notorious for some of the most heartless scam artists and shark recruiters in the industry. I needn't name names, but anyone who has hung here for a while knows. They constantly prey on newbies, use them for a month or two, never pay them, and then toss them when they are done. They are shameless. You have no idea that kk is not one of these sharks. Maybe kk means well, but obviously kk has no idea of the industry, either. If kk were to hire onto a job for 11.5 cpl, or anything per line, and then turn around and farm out her work to someone else, a stranger, who then returns their work to kk for proofing, who sends it in to their MTSO, well, guess what? KK is now a SUBCONTRACTOR. There are lots of legalities to that, the least of which is taxes to newby who is getting paid by KK, not to mention KK's original source of work, who might not allow subcontracting. Remember those pesky little laws we have in MTing?? You can't do what KK is just so casually offering the OP. Let's hope for the best that KK was, indeed, just trying to be nice. But I seriously 100% doubt it - nobody can be in this business enough, and make an offer slick enough as that, to not know what they are doing. PLEASE believe me on this one, KK might not be the saint you would like to believe. I understand your wanting somebody out here to be a good guy, but I doubt this is the case here.
Trying To Encourage You
Sometimes people fire you for reasons they don't want to explain. You mentioned that your company is increasing its outsourcing on a daily basis. That's one possibility. Other possibilities include the proverbial personality clash, jealousy, or just wanting to hire their relative instead of you.
That said, wait a couple of days and then take a deep breath, and go back in and ask to see examples of your reports that demonstrate the quality issues they referenced in firing you. Ask them to show you your mistakes.
If they agree to do that, try to write down the biggest mistakes, then go home and learn from those mistakes before you apply for new positions elsewhere.
If they don't agree to do that, see paragraph #1. You probably weren't fired for quality problems in that case.
Either way, you have already invested yourself in MT as a career. Don't let one person (who may be misinformed, jealous, vindictive, or anything else) take away your dignity. You can and will find a better job, and if you want it to be in MT, it will be!
Good luck!
The owner will encourage you to
talk to her current staff, etc., but that is definitely biased. An anonymous board like this is is a safer.
Don't know about platform. They do encourage (sm)
backup accounts.
It might even encourage the companies who care...
to truly offer more for American MTs. If they know we are willing to make them stronger against the Indians, et al, this might be the encouragement to pay a little more for better quality.
So, MTSOs actually ENCOURAGE the leads.sm
to cherry-pick only the work they want to do -- a wonderful setup!. This, and their salary, too. Which doesn't surprise any of us, but where does this despicable and unfair practice leave the regular MTs, who are not salaried and only have the measly few pennies per line for the garbage that they are allowed, even encouraged, to throw at us?
Yeah, but the AMA doesn't encourage patients to go
Yes, it happens. But the AMA doesn't encourage it. The AAMT on the other hand has done more to systematically destroy the MT profession than any other organization out there.
Does the Medical Transcription industry encourage job-hoppers?
First off I want to make it clear that I am not “bashing” any MTs by asking the questions below. Also sorry this is so long. Please bear with me. -- Spelling and grammar police please take a break !!!
I have been following some posts and just got curious. So if we all could just take a deep breath, give it some serious thought, stay on point and not get carried away with other opinions, I think we can get some good honest opinions about why the MTSOs are treating their employees like “equipment.”
What I have noticed is that when there are MTs looking for information about certain companies they often get replies such as: I worked for them but “left after 1 month – 2 months – 6 months,” Then there are MTSO owners who complain that after offering an MT a position the MT either says “no thanks” the day they are suppose to start working or are never heard from again. This gives me the impression that there are MTs out there who treat working as an MT like they treat buying a new pair of shoes --- try them out for awhile and then return them if they don’t fit. No emotional attachment involved.
I am fast approaching 60 years of age and have been an MT for over 35 years. I was one of the first to take the CMT test when AAMT first organized way back when. My first MT job was transcribing from cassette tapes, using a typewriter and sticky paper for clinic notes and sheets of paper for hospital reports. So obviously I have seen a lot of changes in the MT business. Personally over the past 35+ years I have had 6 employers (4 inhouse before MTSOs offered working from home and 2 national MTSOs for the past 15 years). Personally I am TERRIFIED of having to find a new job --- interviews, equipment setup, new platform to learn, loss in earnings during training, and so forth and so forth. That being said I have a feeling I will need to be looking for a new position within the next six months and I am curious as to what type of employment search atmosphere I will be encountering.
My curiosity stems from my impression that many MTs are comfortable “job-hopping.” When they state they only stayed at a company for 1-2-6 months it is presented as matter-of-fact – no-big-deal. I can see why they feel that way. With several hundred MTSOs out there and most constantly looking for new employees, even the worst MT in the world could start working at age 20, work for a different company every 6 months and still not work for them all by the time they retire. In my opinion that is what is causing the MTSOs to treat their MTs so badly, offer them less and less as starting wages, and not be responsive to questions or problems. The MTSO invests quite a bit of money into hiring a new employee. They either have to pay someone in their HR Department or a Recruiting Agency to do the initial resume search, testing, and interviewing. There is a ton of paperwork. If the MTSO supplies the computer, their IT Department has to set up the computer and ship it out which means shipping charges for the computer or paperwork. And someone has to train the new MT. All those expenses are incurred by the MTSO before the MT even starts to produce. I can see why some of the MTSOs are resorting to questionable “bait and switch” tactics. They probably also send out the oldest computers to the new MTs to cover themselves in case the MT quits and doesn’t ship it back in a timely manner. It seems to me that the majority of complainers about type of work, amount of work, or computer problems that they are experiencing are the newly hired MTs.
Because of all the “short-term” complainers, someone looking for information about a particular company is often given incomplete or misleading opinions based on limited information. Can anyone honestly with 100% accuracy adamantly state a company is “#1” or “the worst on earth” when they only worked there for 2 months? I would love to see any MT who posts a positive or negative comment about a company to also admit to how long they actually worked for the company and if they are currently employed there or not. I think that would give their opinions a lot more weight.
Obviously, not every MTSO is the “dream job” for every MT and for any MT to state they work for the “best company” is hubris and can even be fighting words to employees of other good or even great companies. It can also lead to disappointment when an MT applies to the “best company” only to find out it does not fit their needs. I feel that if the MTs on this board would try to leave personal opinions aside and give relevant information about a company it would be easier for an MT to find a good fit with ONE company and not have to “job-hop,” If more MTs would work for a company for at least a year before quitting and moving on maybe the MTSOs would actually be willing to offer newly hired MTs the same respect they offer the MTs that have been working for them for 5-10-15 or more years.
Finally to my questions. I am curious to see if my opinion is based in fact. Are there a significant number of MTs who “job hop?”
These questions are primarily directed at employees of MTSOs, large or small, but inhouse hospital or clinic MTs are also welcome to respond. I realize IC MTs have a whole different set of guidelines they go by and often have multiple clients at the same time. But if you are an IC and wish to give your opinion, please feel free to do so – just state that you are an IC so there is no confusion.
Please answer as many questions as you feel comfortable giving information about (I hope you will answer most because of the anonymity of this board):
1. How long have you been working as an MT?
2. How many DIFFERENT companies have you worked for (even if it was only for a few hours) in the last 10 years? (If you left but came back later that is only 1.)
3. How many companies have you accepted an offer of employment from but then never actually started working for them?
4. How many companies have you quit working for within the first pay period?
5. How many companies have you quit from?
6. Have many companies have you been terminated from (I guess the word “fired” from is no longer politically correct) i.e. you were not meeting line requirements, QA requirements, time commitment requirements (signing on late, leaving early), or being told you don’t have the necessary experience/expertise for the accounts assigned to you, etc?
7. How many companies have you left because they were bought out by another MTSO and you did not like how the new MTSO was treating you?
8. How many companies that you were working for completely went out of business (was not bought by another company) and told you that you had to find a new job yourself?
9. What is the shortest period of time that you have worked for one company? (Even if it was only for a few hours) What is the longest period of time that you have worked for one company?
10. Have you ever continued working for your former company while training with a new company?
11. Have you ever worked for two different companies (2 part-time or 1 full-time and 1 part-time) during the same time period? For how many months/years did you work for two different companies?
12. What is your primary reason for applying to a certain company (pay, insurance, flexible schedule, equipment provided, sign-on bonus, referral from another MT, etc)?
13. What is your primary reason for leaving a company (cannot maintain minimum required number of lines, not assigned accounts or job types as originally discussed, running out of work too frequently, difficult platform, computer slowness/crashes, management conflicts, QA conflicts, other “bait and switch” type of issues where the MTSO said one thing but you ended up doing something entirely different, personal, family, etc)?
14. Are you really happy at your present company or are you just working there because you are afraid if you try another company it will be worse and not better? How long have you worked at this company? Do you plan to continue working at this company for at least 1 year (of course barring unforeseen personal or professional events). Would you be willing to give the name of your present company?
15. Do you think you will retired as a Medical Transcriptionist (or in the Medical Transcription field, such as an Editor, Supervisor, etc) or do you think you will switch careers at some point before retirement?
Thank you for your time.
If you would like to e-mail me with any questions or responses, I would be happy to hear from all of you.
Thank you for satisfying my curiosity and giving me some insight as to where the Medical Transcription field is heading in the future.
HAPPY HOLIDAYS.
If you've switched companies, encourage the rest!
If you've decided to join us in the fight to keep our confidential health information and MT jobs in the states and not sent overseas, PLEASE let us know and help encourage others to do the same. I recently have and currently work for MDI-MD. We really need to keep encouraging each other to make the move. If you're not sure if a company outsources to either Pakistan, India, or the Philippines, just ask here. We'll help figure it out for you!
Let's not quit and let this just remain a hot topic for a week or so! WE HAVE TO COME TOGETHER! Remember, if you take a cent less in pay, it's well worth it to help an American MT-based company prosper and help these companies that are more concerned about money than Americans' jobs lose MTs and possibly large accounts that these American MT-based companies could have a chance at acquiring.
This is US TAKING A STAND! I just want to encourage you all to truly consider this.
The companies I know of that definitely don't outsource offshore right now after THOROUGH research are Keystrokes, Axolotl, MDI-MD (where I work). I'll keep researching. Just remember to post here if you are questioning a company. I'm still researching others and am including Pakistan and the Phillipines in my searches.
I'm contacting medical facilities in my area (Pennsylvania) to let them know that their confidential medical information could possibly be outsourced offshore and to consider helping keep jobs in America by researching their MTSO and hire a company that doesn't do this. If you feel inclined to reach medical facilities in your area/state, PLEASE do this for all of your fellow MTs. I know there is at least one of you in each state on this board!
Hello??!! I'm the original poster! I think I can respond to the poster who replied to my original

All I can say is be careful...
You will get a great offer, good training and be happy as a lark ... until you're out on your own, no one from IT will respond to your inquiries about technical problems, and they'll train you on one account (one that gives you great line counts) and then presto-chango, you're typing every ESL doc they dug out from wherever it is they hatch them from and you'll make ZERO dollars. I think the problem here is, like a lot of others, the good dicatators are going through VR (you'll notice, Transcend has a TON of openings for VR editors), and we (the MTs) are getting stuck with the dopes who cannot talk. I'm giving some serious thought to switching to editing - I'd rather do that and do twice the work, than try to figure out what these jokers are saying. Anyway, I was making great money during training with Transcend, but am now LOSING money and trying to decide if I should look elsewhere.
Be careful, though
My training went exceptionally well and I was on cloud 9. Then - WHAM!!! They put me on the account I was hired for (of course, no one told me it was different than the one I trained on), and it is AWFUL. I made great money right after training, until this new account ... now I'm taking a loss. These dictators are AWFUL - so I hope for your sake, when your training is over, they don't do the same to you.
Be careful. (sm)
I don't know if they do this anymore, but I was hired at a gross line count and then they changed things after hiring. I did the math, and I came out as losing money. Many others were complaining of the same bait and switch at the time.
I also ran into the absolute rudest QA staff of my long career at JLG. It sounded like the owner was going to try to straighten them out at the time, but I didn't stick around to see whether she did.
I had the highest line rate at JLG that I've ever had (13 cents, can't remember if with or without spaces); however, the constant running out of work and being asked to take the day off!, constant switching around of accounts combined with the rudest QA ever made it absolutely not worth it. I've come to the point I realize that it's the entire package an MT has to look at. Others have paid less, but I've been happier.
I hope this helps. I know you asked for those with a happy experience, but I thought I'd give you an honest experience.
Be careful
Whether you can do it or not depends on what they hire you for. Look at the postings a few days ago where people talk about the one account with all the ESLs that people scream about.
Be careful with them
Good pay, but many many problems. 2 yrs with them & I can't take it any more.
Careful about A. They will tell you
that you are hired for tier 3, but then say they meant 2 or 1 and give you a much lower rate!!
Be very careful.
You're not supposed to be sending intercompany information anywhere. I would get it in writing first that your ISP isn't going to be tracked and your info handed over to Transcend so they can fire you. With all the info on this board about what they are doing, Transcend still has their weekly cattle calls on the job seekers' board, so it doesn't look like Transcend is going to lose anything.
Just be very careful.
Be careful
There are huge tax implications. Yes, you get to deduct for certain home-office expenses, but only under specific guidelines and there is a minimum amount that you must have spent out of pocket. If the company is paying you very, very well, then I'd say go for it. Under no circumstances should you take an IC/statutory emp. (where they pay no taxes) job at the same rate of pay as an employee. Please take the time to consult with a tax person before getting yourself in what could be a very expensive proposition. You won't be sorry.
And be careful.
It can mess up your Word program so that some of your commands won't work any more (if you use Word for anything else).
And be careful.
It can mess up your Word program so that some of your commands won't work any more (if you use Word for anything else).
Be careful
Depending the account you get you may spend more time with the demographics than it is worth and the line counts can be off if you copy/paste into regular Word and check them yourself, or even using a line counting program.
Be careful
Check the archives, where it is posted that they do not pay on time or do not pay at all, as well as some taking or having taken legal action against them.
Be Careful
I worked for them and made no money. When a QA position opened, I tested for it. They claimed I didn't pass. However, 2 years later, I am the QA director for another company. Hmmm. I think someone had a friend or relative that wanted the job too.
Be careful
This company makes a lot of promises they don't keep, their Editor is extremely difficult to work with, and their employee turnaround is awful. Watch yourself. I worked for them for two years and am SO glad to be done.
Be very careful...sm
They will tell you they pay for spaces but when you get your check (six weeks later) you will see you are not because the IType system they use does not count them. When you inquire you are lied to and told they are not sure what is up. They keep you on the hook but know all along they are not paying for spaces. Apparently, they have been doing this for several years. Do a search on this board. As well, still waiting for my last check and it's been several months. Won't respond to calls or e-mails. No work either most days.
wow, all I can say is be very very very careful ...
I can't emphasize it enough. Very bad reputation, but apparently the admins of this board were supposedly talking to him (owner) about not paying people and so forth and they have allowed him to post jobs again. But just be careful - there are quite a few companies out there that do not pay or will pay up to a certain point (i.e. when they are done using you) and you will never hear from them again.
Be careful!!!
They called me back for rehire and I have never heard a word. I quit because they never paid me on time. They promised me I would get paid on time, etc., but I have not heard a word from them. I would not be surprised if they are getting bought out by somebody else. I was supposed to have started back 3 weeks ago and still no word!!!!
be careful
D&L uses them for recruiting because they cannot recruit themselves due to bad publicity. I am sure there are others too. Same results as searching online for companies without the hassle of double testing or getting attached to a company you would never have gone to in the first place.
careful...
I just called a company and theirs is a 70 character line
I would be careful
I was actually hired by this company and their contract also states that they can lower your pay at any time and not pay for reports if they are not 100%. I was all ready and set to go ended up having emergency surgery. I called them and emailed them to let them know before I went to the hospital and then called when I was released stating that I could still do part-time and was very anxious to get started, but never heard anything again. I was very upset about this. The lady I spoke with told me how lucky they were to get someone with my experience and how I would quickly get raises, etc. Anyhow sorry about spelling errors, etc, have been up since 2:00 a.m. Tuesday morning. Good luck. If you take the job, please keep us updated:)
Be careful about.....
contacting the original client. I did that with another MTSO I had problems with and actually they sued me for damages and WON - wont do that again. Your best bet is to issue a formal letter demanding payment - not an email as that wont hold up in court and if she does not pay, then file small claims and use your contract as the evidence you need to prove your case.
Just my 2cw. :)
Careful...
I would ask to sample a tape before even agreeing to quote a price/take the job. Could be interesting; could be a real chore.
Then I'd charge by the minute of dictation based upon that test - $1.00+ per minute depending on the quality/difficulty of the conversations. This is going to be a hefty bill! 1800 minutes by my estimation... What's the turnaround requirement? I'll do it! :)
MQ QA ...be careful
xx
careful
This thread is starting to sound like the MQ board!
I would be very careful with MQ
In case you have not read the MQ board lately, 70% of controlling stock has been sold to CBay Holding Systems, an Indian company, that will probably/possibly begin offshoring work to their Indian transcription company. There is much debate over this, and I would caution you before giving up a good offer with another company.
As far as flexibility goes with MQ, it all depends on your supervisor. Mine was great. The pay was awful - no raise in 5 years. Not to mention, ASR/voice recognition cuts. See below.
MQ pays 70% (currently) of your base rate for voice recognition, which is pretty good in comparison to other companies. About 75% of my paycheck was ASR. If the other company is straight transcription, you will make out much better than ASR at MQ.
Be Careful
After reading what SS reportedly promised you about upping you to 9 cpl when removed from QA, that jumped out at me. If they were unethical enough to do as they did to the other MT, why would you be any different? Just something to think about.
I hope I'm wrong. Truthfully, I had no idea that this co. was uncool. I'm glad that names are being dropped so the rest of us will know intead of having to dig around and hope they get lucky re the proper info.
Hope you keep us posted.
careful what you wish for
Required degree.
Required hours.
Required employee.
Mandatory 99-100% accuracy.
and the inevitability of lots of oversight
be careful there
this is a strange company...went from court reporting to MT and don't really know what they are doing...they want only MTs that live in Michigan and they use templates and you don't get paid for lines you have to change, which you do a lot....count yourself lucky if you DON'T hear from them...been there and lost my butt
Be very careful, there are a lot of
scams out there that only want to get your personal information.
careful with this one
they are on the cutting edge of making things as cheap as they can for the client and screw the Transcriptionist at every possible opportunity....give it a try...but come back and let everyone know how it went...good luck! (sounds like technology is trying to do you a favor lol)
Be careful what you say here.
Julie you are so right!!! I once came here and posted some rather unflattering comments about company I was working for at that time. Well my boss saw everything and she knew it was me. At one time I had a pretty good relationship with my supervisor, but needless to say, after the posting she was rather cool towards me. It was very uncomfortable and she did finally confront me regarding my post and warned me that if I posted again like that, I might lose my job.
I am just warning everyone here that you might think you are anonymous here, but they can find out very easily your identity. Just be careful what you say here -- it could come back to haunt you.
Be careful with this---sm
I actually spoke with a *recruiter* by email one time a while back concerning this *so-called* employment position. I spoke with them because I had found a very similar advertisement, but with the same company, in a different job board (can't remember where any more). I copied the first ad, pasted it into an e-mail and asked them a whole bunch of questions. It turns out that there are two different *macro-solutions* and the one a poster below called is the *legitimate* one. The other macro-solutions is based in a third world country, and even though the position sounds *legit*, do not let the high pay fool you. This company *recruits* people here in the U.S. and it is nothing but a scam. All the *customer service rep* is there for is, as they put it, *collect funds from customers in the U.S., put it into THEIR bank account, keep 10 percent for themselves, and forward the rest of the funds to them.* It is a scam through and through, using a well-known company name to *suck in* naive job-seekers looking for a fast buck. Please do not get involved in this! DANGER! DANGER!
careful what you listen to
You might want to find out from someone who knows. Call the office, check what the TAT log says. There is work, they have been doing overtime on many accounts. If that person posting isn't working, it is because they aren't trying to. There was just an email sent around that if you account was slower you could do a different platform, etc. Can't blame the company for this one - blame the one who sits back and waits for the company to come to them. Don't have to, too many others who are stepping up to the plate!
