I've tried to find a complete listing of every MT company that exists, but no luck. Can anyone here provide me with that or at least tell me where to get it? Thanks

List of companies using ExText? sm
Can anyone give me a list of companies that use ExText? Looking for part-time position and IC or employee; specialize in OPs, 10+ yrs experience. Thanks in advance!

Maybe list the bad companies instead of the good
I don't really blame the person that has the great job for not wanting to post it on the board. I had a great job at one time and they lost their big accounts and I lost the job. Now I got a good job, but the pay isn't much unfortunately, but the work is good and steady.
Maybe people rather wouldn't mind listing the names of companies they worked for and got burned or hated the job for whatever reasons.
If there are any good companies they are few and far between unfortunately. I was making more per line 10 to 20 years ago than now. Our rates have not increased. The only difference is we are on computers now instead of typewriters. I don't think any of these companies care about us as people. We are just money makers for them. That's their bottom line. I'd love to know how much they are getting per line from the hospitals. Probably 16 cents a line and we are getting 8. It really stinks. The only way to make more is to work more and more. And then when you work like 8 hours overtime and see your check it really is disgusting how little it added up to. At least in the days where we were employees at hospitals our overtime pay would be so great that it made it worth it.
Is there a list of companies that DON'T OFFSHORE?
If not, can we list them here? I'm tired of getting laid off or not having enough work from companies who're sending work to India.
If you know of a company that doesn't offshore, it would also be nice if you could say whether or not they require VR.
Thanks in advance to anyone who participates -- we're all in this together!
Would like to know list of companies that use Webtop please?
Anyone know of companies that use the program, Webtop? Thanks!
Here is a list of companies that offshore ... FYI
See study overview table from 2008 MTSO study:
What is sad is that you'll get a longer list of companies
People with skill and experience are too costly to most large MTSOs. Quantity is more important than quality because, after all, it's cheaper to hire a couple skilled professionals to clean up the mess of the larger group of unexperienced/unskilled MTs that they can hire for a lot less.
List of companies that use Dictaphone platform??
I like working on the Dictaphone platform and would like to find a company that uses this platform.. preferably with low ESL. Tried a company that had Dictaphone but the ESL was so bad I could not get a good line count.
And a lot of the lists are made up of companies that pay to be on the list. sm
I think your best bet is to either go with someone who is well known or go with a small company if you know someone who works there.
Can anyone share a compiled list of companies
And a second list of companies USA only? This would be a great reference tool for those of us who have made a personal choice to only work for USA firms. I thought about compiling a list, but am afraid it would not be all-inclusive, and I know that some of you out there are very knowledgeable and have done much research.
Also on the American ones, perhaps if you know they cheat on line counts, pay, give the run around, that would help too. I could probably help with that but again it would not be all inclusive.
Maybe we can get a few posts together and share notes. I think that this kind of list of all of our experiences (collectively would be a great reference tool), and perhaps it could be saved here somewhere, maybe earmarked for future reference so people would not have to constantly search through archives. Why reinvent the wheel over and over again if we could have all this info in 1 place.
I think that if we work all collectively, we can improve our working conditions, because MTSOs on that list will be held accountable at least by the amount of people who read this board and support the ideas which seem to come up often here, namely, keep it in the USA, keep wages fair, treat the remote MT/QA professionally, etc.
When gas prices went through the roof the American public cut back and you see now, gas prices are going down. This should be an example to us that if we all work together throughout the country, changes must be made by those who are cheating the MT. By us having this information, and keeping it here, then people can have a great list to keep in their back pocket, and finally companies will be held accountable.
I will be willing to put some into the list, but I don't know it all so I need help. Will wait for feedback first. Thanks in advance for listening to my idea.
OP asked for a list of companies that DO offshore (sm)
Inside the post she asked to start a second list of companies who keep work here in the USA. I understood the post, and was merely listing Keystrokes as someone who does NOT offshore to go on the second list of companies that keeps work here. KS does NOT offshore and they never will.
Here is a compiled list of Indian MT companies
http://mtherald.com/medical-transcription-companies-in-india-a-detailed-list/
Checkout this list. You've two more such lists on that blog, totaling three.
One thing you need to know with the Indian companies is that the rates are low and you cannot earn as much as you can in the US.
Please form a list of nonVR companies
It would be great to have all in 1 place companies which do not have VR (and they usually are all USA too). I can only come up with 2 to start, but please add to the list. This would certainly help out those who do not wish to take the leap at this time into that kind of technology. Thanks for adding to the list.
1. Keystrokes. Very little VR, lots of straight typing. No overseas.
2. SoftScript. I think all straight typing. I do believe no overseas.
Please add to the list. It would be a helpful tool for many of us. Sorry I can't think of more, but then again, that is why I am creating this post. Thanks again.
Correction to list below of Companies that do not off shore
Optiscript in State College,Pa DOES off shore. I was offered a job with them until I heard from a very reliable source that they even have offices out of the country. Stay away!
Still good companies in my opinion...was not on the list. Check them out for yourself OP
Partial list of companies providing a computer...sm
Diskriter, Precyse, Opti-Script (Penn.), CIT (Charts in Time), WebMedX, Spheris, and Amphion. Transcend used to. Maybe someone can say whether Transtech or MQ still do. I do not know if you have to be FT in order to get computer provided with any of these companies. Opti-Script in Penn. WILL provide one for part-timers. Good luck!
I just emailed Mr. Dobbs with a partial list of MT companies
that outsource that weren't on his list. Thanks for the link!
good list of companies for straight typers
1. Keystrokes
2. SoftScript
3. Digital Transcription Systems, Inc. (DTS--Oklahoma)
4. TRS, LLC (N.Carolina)
5. Silent Type, Inc.
6. TransPro Medical Transcription, Inc.
7. New England Medical Transcription, Inc. (NEMT)
8. Southern Transcription Services,Inc (Georgia)
They're not listed on MTD's Companies list. Maybe do a Yahoo search? nm

I have an idea..we should all start a list of MT companies that are no payers, bad payers, and late
but it is even worse when no one knows their record until they find out the hard way as they sit around waiting to get paid. I think it's rude to bounce checks, pay people late or not at all. We're not all working for free because we wanted to donate our time. We need to work to survive and those companies just prey on people. If they are getting paid, yet they can't pay their MTs, I'd say that someone doesn't know how to manage money. I just find it sad.
How do you know list is true? I can make a list,

Does it exist
I am wondering if there is really a company out there that will train or test if someoe has not had any MT classes. I learned how to be an mt long before classes were ever required to do the job. I have experience transcribing and with medical terminology. Have done live transcribing for some doctors offices. If there isn't anything like this does anyone know how to get a job doing standard transcription?? Please help, need a job working at home. The sooner the better. I am tired of scams, I don't have the time to waste.
They do exist ;-)
I just wanted to reply to this and let you know that I am currently working for MRC and totally enjoying it. I think there was an MRC that was bought by Medquist a few years ago, but there is a Medical Records Corporation of Maryland. Hope this helps!!!
Does this exist
Does anyone offer a full-time employee status position with a 24-hour TAT rather than an assigned shift? Thanks in advance for your help.
So, IC does not really exist?
When they employ you with benefits, they think that you are owned by them. And so I thought IC meant working for yourself. That they could not demand hours, that you were a vendor. They could have a turn around time, and quality control. They don't pay benefits, taxes, SS. What's the deal? If these IC companies treat MTs and experienced MTs like this they will soon find none of us working for them. This is crazy. I wish you all luck, because I never realized there were so many controlling companies out there. Why a good manager does not control, but trusts and then the labor will do well in return. Intelligent MTs same thing! What do they think MTs are... brainless? Why our skill is worth money and is rare, good luck to them finding good people after a while...
They exist (sm)
There are companies out there who understand the true meaning of Independent Contractor. I currently am an IC. I have 24-36 hour TAT depending on how busy we are. When I accepted this position, I chose which days I would work each week and I commit to a certain number of minutes daily. If extra work is available, I choose whether or not I will accept any extra work. When I want to take time off, I notify the owner of the company in advance since I have commited to complete a certain amount of work; obviously, if I am not there that work will not be completed. I have worked with other companies who treat their ICs as employees, so those types do exist as well. I know basically from a telephone interview whether or not a position will be a true IC position or whether I will be treated as an employee.
They do exist sm
I have had 2 offers this very week for straight OPs. One is a C-phone thing and the other platform. One is high pressuring me to take the job, the other offered me 9.5 cpl. THEY DO exist.
The problem is that so many of these gals out there think they are OP note specialists and they are not. The crapola they turn out is incredible (I see in old work, in samples, in my editing capacity because I edit OPs). I think it takes away from those of us who can do it properly. Some companies have gotten to where they won't hire a diva because the standard Basic 4 MTs are better at it. This puts you at a disadvantage, guilt by association.
Keep looking and applying for every job that says OPs in the title and you are bound to come up with something. I share your pain.
11 cpl--Nationals exist!!
Check with MDI in Gaithersburg, MD. If you are absolutely top-notch, they will pay you 11 cpl and you work 2 weekend days per month. You have until 11 PM to complete your lines (at least 1000 for full time and that may have changed) each day, after that, it is a "new day." You certainly can work from 11:01 to 7:00 AM but you don't have to. They are lovely people to work for. Pay is always on time--direct deposit. You would be a statutory employee.
You are right, but do all these things exist
I agree with you but I also agree with the poster above. I believe that person was trying to say at least this company gives a person a chance to make up for something they do not pay for. Most companies that I have worked for including hospitals do not pay for headers and footers where the demographics are mostly already filled in for them by ExText. Unfortunately that is the way the hospital pays and the CFO of the hospital is already outsourcing, so chances are these services are bidding against each other and the MT is last in line on the food chain.
I have not been with TT, but I have worked for 2 years with a reputable company where they are very nice but I saw my line count decrease amazingly. I a transcription who always made at least 1800 lines a day for years was struggling to get 900 a day. Come to find out this place had not been paying me for spaces for almost 2 years and I did not even know it. Also, I believe they have not paid me for Expanders and expanded phrases I created. It was nice to know I was not losing my skill, but awful to have been felt so ripped off by these nice people. I am looking too for a position with everything. And I would be upset not to be paid for headers and footers. The poster above however mentions tiered incentive, quality bonus (which I have never heard of anywhere) and a company which pays for expanders. I guess it sounds good to me. So, have I been conditioned to expect the worst? Maybe. But perhaps you are conditioned to be unhappy in a place you are paid for everything but headers and footers. At least they were not like where I have been ripped off for not even being paid spaces, and all my macros. Good luck to both of you! I hope you find where you are happiest :)
Says does not exist on that site. NM

Because the shortage does not exist. nm

Does such a thing exist?
Does anyone know if there is such a thing as a sort of temp agency for on-line work, where you get paid immediately for a day's work? I've had some personal 'drama' in my life and find myself in need of quick cash and payday at my FT job is not for another week. I've looked around the house, but so far the offers are not rolling in for my ScoobyDoo Happy Meal Collection, my half-burned candles, or my Yani cassettes.
If such a place does exist....I hope someone will
just post a name....I've left my e-mail before with a couple of valid questions and can't get an answer that way either so not sure what to do...Also, as in post above I'm wrestling with employee versus IC. I always been an employee but it truly does seem all the good jobs are as an IC..
New COO at WMX. Job created just for him, didn't exist before sm
Lots of new hiring at WMX. Me thinks JC is probably behind this, recruiting Spheris/Edix people over there. I will always thing of that scum bag service and Edix, one of the worst, ever.
Wow. Do you at least get a card or any acknowledgment you exist???
Not true. Bonuses and incentives do exist
and are paid out on time as earned. Have never had any mess-up on my per check incentives nor my quarterly bonuses.
If those opportunities truly exist in this co., then it will be a good thing. s/m
But I've been around long enough that I've heard this all before, and the statistics are not on our side. And even when the MTs DO see an improvement, it can sometimes take 5-10 years to finally trickle down to them, as they are usually at the bottom of the do-do list. I do sincerely hope that I am wrong, and that this company is truly different. Only time will tell.
Does Gibson Medical Transcription in FL still exist? SM
I have tried looking for it, but I can find nothing.
Any help will be appreciated.
Thank you.
Does Transcription1 in Florida still exist? Any comments

Does Get Back Jack Productions still exist?
Don't know if they even exist. I live right here in NY and they've never responded to my resum

Do they still exist? Haven't been posted about in a long time. nm

A typo does not make it unprofessional. Perfect doesn't exist.
We all do our best, but typos will happen from time to time. Won't matter tomorrow and certainly won't matter next year.
Unions exist to make money for unions.
That's the truth. They don't care if companies close because they can't afford to pay union wages, and then the workers have nothing.
add me to the list
mwilmotjr@yahoo.com
Like the ones that want you to add them to an IM list so they can
see if you are online and keep track of you every minute of the day? Best cure for that is to keep your internet program on 24/7 and never answer one of their IMs
Don't want to list it here
it ain't much! Compound that with no work. 'outta there.
A wish list???
What kind of list? It's a cry for help to sift through some of the many transcription companies I have seen mentioned on-line. Most of the lists I have seen are either just all lumped together with essentially no information, or sometimes listed by states.
I was asking for the the names of the biggest companies as a sort of initial filter. However, as I stated, I AM wondering about the safety of going with a big company. I have been working for a medium size, local company with one huge account. They lost it and due to that and other factors, they have just decided to go out of business. I realize bigger isn't necessarily better.
Another issue for me is that I like to travel and think it would be nice to sometimes be able to pack a small amount of equipment, maybe just a laptop and foot pedal, and be able to work.
I know there are going to be conflicting opinions, but for me right now even that might be helpful. The company I was working for had good and bad points and I loved and hated it sometimes within the same day.
Great strengths it had that I would like to find again: At least competitive pay, benefits, and most of all - lots of flexibility. I basically only had to make a quota every two weeks and not even that was VERY strictly enforced. Other than that, I had almost total flexibility. I would certainly pass on making only a few more dollars in order to retain my flexibility.
So, it's a list of biggest companies, a list of suggested companies, and in a perfect world it would be a list of companies that meet all of my needs. For now, I'd just settle for any good suggestions.
Yes, I list everything.
