Conference Call...
Don't you remember the part where he said they want everyone to strive to achieve 40% above straight typing rate on ISR? It was when he was talking about this year's goals. Don't you know what that means? It sounded to me like we can expect a 10% cut in the ISR rate soon, as it is now a 30% cut from straight typing.

Fired by conference call
along with about 30 others when SPi sent accounts to India and Philippines.  Two hours' notice of the mandatory conference call.  Two hours' notice to sign off before being locked out, and get time sheets in.  That was special!
Second conference call this morning
Did anyone learn anything new in the second conference call this morning?  To me it was mostly more of the same.  It seems like most people (me included) are mostly concerned with becoming an employee and having a set schedule and there didn't seem to be a clear answer on that.

This morning's conference call

My antennas went up right away this morning when the call began.  It was acknowledged that this news must have come as a surprise to us, but when our moderator said it had also come as a surprise to her only a few days prior, my hopes for some honest and forthright information went down the tubes.  It seems to me someone who was moving up in the chain of command would have known what was going on much longer than a couple of days.


I took advantage of emailing one of the team leaders from Transcend last night with some questions about the flexibility of the schedules and shift work, etc., and here is the answer she gave to me: 


We do have shifts instead of line count commitments, but we also never discourage anyone from working extra, and in fact we are always asking for extra help, so that isn’t a problem.   Everyone here logs lines and hours for payroll.   The hours are because if you work overtime we do have to pay that.    We do usually ask that you see if overtime is allowed first, but it’s not that big of a deal because most of the time we are so busy we approve it anyway, so yes if you want to work more you certainly can.     We consider $900.00 gross a pay period fulltime.   We used to count it in lines, but now we have come up with a money amount.    That’s easy to achieve actually, but you don’t have to stop at 900 by any means, it is just minimum to remain fulltime. 


You will see, more often than not, we are begging people to work extra.   We cross train on platforms and most people have primary, secondary, tertiary accounts.   If one isn’t busy another one is.   You will not be constrained on the amount of money you want to make ...


So, if that takes any mud out of the water for you that's good, but it still seems that our flexibility and earning capacity will depend on someone else.  I certainly agree with everyone about the pay scale.  You can't convince me that they have gone through all of these negotiations and pay has never entered into the picture.  I believe it will be just exactly as one caller said this morning, they will attempt to equate the benefits with the pay, so I guess when my power company comes to shut off my electricity I can send them over to Blue Cross/Blue Shield or whoever to get the balance of my money. 


   


I was on the conference call and was told
that MDI would be a subsidiary of Transcend but would be called MDI/Transcend. Sounded like a crock to me.

I'm hoping for a recap email regarding the conference call.  In the meantime, anything interesting or noteworthy?  I'm definitely torn on this one, and hoping for some good news.

I have received no email about such conference call.
Where did you get that from, and who sent it out.  Give initials, pls.  I got missed somehow.

Thank u, but I am confused. On our conference call, we were told

that we would maintain our flexiblity and be able to meet our commitments in a 24-hour window.  Are you saying there are set shifts?  That is huge for me, as I cannot work a set shift around my kids' ever-changing schedules.  Right now we are required to work 2 weekends days per month and we commit to X number of lines per day on the days we schedule ourselves to work.  We were told this flexibility would NOT change.  We also do not request holidays off, but schedule ourselves to work one holiday per year.  We write our own schedules and submit them every 2 months.  The flexibility is the biggest reason I have worked for MDI for years and the only place I wanted to work again after taking a year off to be with a newborn.


I like my current accounts, but am willing to also learn a new platform/account to make sure I have enough work.  But the flexible scheduling is imperative.


I COMPLETELY MISSED THE MDI CONFERENCE CALL, WHAT'S UP?

Your equation doesn't always prove true if there is little work, if a person's primary account is an overflow account, or if it is the last few days of the pay period.  If people are scrambling to get jobs on their shifts and someone else comes along who doesn't normally work that shift, but is just doing so out of convenience for themselves, they are taking lines from what little jobs there are from the people who abide by the rules and what they had been asked by management.  This is most definitely stealing lines from fellow MLSs. Perhaps you have been fortunate enough to have a primary account that always has heavy volume, and that may account for why you had never been told this by management. But, a good share of accounts aren't like this, and this has repeatedly been addressed by management as a problem issue.  If it wasn't a problem, upper management (Larry) would never have brought it up in conference calls and in email.

I'm working (my regularly scheduled day/time), and it also happens to be the end of the pay period. I always periodically go in to check my counts to see how I'm doing. Just now when I went in, it is no longer showing times in my Central Time Zone. It's showing my last job sent at 9:00 p.m., which is about 5 hours off from me (I'm just now at 4:15 p.m.). It seems like I might as well quit working at about 7:00 my time since a fair assumption would be that anything after what the system is calling midnight isn't going to make it onto this paycheck. Is mine the only time that's screwed up or is everybody suddenly set to some completely random time zone? And I say suddenly because first thing this morning, everything was showing as it usually does. Of course, there are no upper echelons on-line to ask, and even the 1 person available in our far-far-away tech support is unavailable.
Any comments on today's DRC/Acusis meeting? NM

I'm guessing that you're mean or bitter. I read her ad, and it makes sense. MTSOs don't have firm accounts, or maybe very few of them do, but they lose accounts all the time and get new ones all the time. Nothing is stable baby!
Got the call from MQ today

Came from "Mike" at corporate MQ number on caller ID.


Just wanted to verify that I got the letter and that I would be getting the new benefit package in October. I politely asked if he could give me any advance FYI on any of it and he said, nope, they were just calling & verifying we received the letter...and that October was not that far away  my last name starts with G & I'm in the midwest, so maybe their going in alpha or by office, who knows.


I did ask him a question about the new links on the QNet, about what to find on there and he actually had to pull the page up and his computer was running so slow he said, that I just told him never mind.


So...the suspense goes on ladies and gents.


I got my call about my pay cut today...sm
They have decided to pay based on the level of the account you are on. There 4 levels. I believe I understand that level 1 starts at 8 cpl up to level 4 which would be 9 cpl so it depends on the account you are on and if you make more than that account's level says you should whether you will get a pay cut.

I took their test yesterday, and today got a call
with no interview, nothing - and got offered a job. Want me to train tomorrow, and start next week already. Seems suspect. Although, he did say they have the account, but can't actually get it up and running until they get people in place. Very weird ... I pass.
FOCUS offer! I had a call today sm

from a recruiter at Focus.  They offered me a job doing acute care supposedly 60% VR and 40% MT.  I can't say that I would even think about it.  What I don't get is this:  She said these reports have to be listened to all the way through.  BUT, you don't get paid for the whole report.  You only get paid for the lines you correct.  The way I see it is you could be listening to a three page report, correct 4 lines and get exactly 16 cents!...4cpl!  Am I interpereting this correctly?  This is absolutely ridiculous.  I don't care what people say, there is no way you could make any money doing VR at that rate.  Is there something I am missing here?


The real frosting on the cake so to speak was the fact they they said their tech people are in India!  I don't think so!  Im not giving India any of my business.  Its bad enough to call the utility companies and get these folks much less having tech support over there.

I hate them, hate them, hate them. 


I have worked a few places where conference calls were utilized and INVARIABLY they covered things that could easily have been covered in a memo, in a couple of paragraphs even, only the call would last half an hour to an hour.  They were always a COMPLETE waste of time.   Paid or not, they were just unbearable.

This just goes to show that not all things suit all people. As for me just give me the work and LEAVE ME ALONE! If there is something I'm doing wrong by all means tell me. One of my new accounts I WAS doing something wrong because I didn't understand how to attach a deficiency. I received a very nice e-mail telling me how it was done and I sent back one saying to let me know if I was still doing it wrong. Got back a very nice e-mail (from Q.A.) telling me to do #1, #2, #3. I got it. Nothing more needed. As for conference calls, I MIGHT tolerate one once a year, IMHO a total waste of my valuable time. I'm happy for you that you went back to your former employer, by all means BE HAPPY, whatever it takes.

Well, we seem to get nothing but pladitudes on the conference calls, sm
so honestly, I was hoping to get some sort of info on here. There are a lot of DSGers who are upset and frustrated and could very well jump ship. Then they will have no one but newbies and what will that do to the TATs. I seems to me that a little honesty about what is going on and what is being done about it would go a long ways towards fostering loyalty. Of course, that is just my opinion.

Although I did not vote for President Obama (we're conservatives) I have to give him great marks for the way he handled this! Good for him! If I had access to him, I would thank him!

To equate a business not hiring remote employees from a particular state with not hiring a particular race of people is ridiculous.  You do know there are laws regarding interstate business, right?  Do you think they view Californians as a race and they just don't like you so they won't hire you?  You would get nowhere with a lawsuit.
