By chance, are these people calling "non-Americans" I worked for a company

Posted By: I have to ask.. on 2007-06-30

who shall remain nameless but their supervisors were in India and would IM me constantly to do a STAT. Even though, I would try tellin them I was not working that day or that I was going somewhere. They continued to ask. It was bizarre. I kept think, what part of English DONT you understand..NO..I thought meant the same everywhere. They are just the only poeple I have dealt with that just doesnt comprehend rejection of any sort, but that's just me.

Second the motion.. Nice people.. Best company I have worked for.
They really care about their employees and it shows..
You know your calling people ignorant...sm
really ticks me off. It is a simple mistake that was made. You need to get over it! No harm was meant. I could have made the mistake myself because I honestly did not know Oriental was not appropriate. I am not ignorant.
Calling other people's gifts "cheesy", are ya? Not nice
nm
I am appalled at the cruelty and name calling shown here. Some people sm

seem to forget that we are supposed to be here to network and SUPPORT each other, not tear each other down and try to belittle someone.  They seem not to know even the basic courtesies.

I was offered a position with JLG, and they told me I could have my check Fed Ex'd.  I did consider it, although after 30 years of being an MT and having some bad experiences, I have decided not to go wtih it.  But I certainly do not consider myself stupid for considering it, and neither should you.  If I had taken the position, I would do what I do when I take any new job -- keep my old job until I find out if this really will work out for me.  Heck, right now I would probably keep it anyway as I need the extra cash.

Good luck in your search.  If you happen to find a great company with benefits that pays well and on time, let me know!

yes there are many "non ESL" sm
dictators who are horrible dictators and YES bad dictators bring your production down. But if you have been in this profession a long time then you know that already. You have probably worked in places that paid an hourly wage and like the rest of us got lured into the idea of working at home for production to make more money. This is for another topic, but suffice it to say the day they made this a production based business is the day it went down the tubes!

No I am not volunteering. But I am also not putting out crappy transcription just to keep up production at the risk of putting a substandard report (in the name of production) on a patient's chart!

These are legal documents. Folks are trying to turning this profession into a see how much money you can make business and the patient's be d____d!. Everybody works for a paycheck, unless as you say they are volunteering. But the purpose they are working for is first. Nurses work for a paycheck....what happens if they decide against proper nursing care all in the name of how many patient's can they get to? Its all the same. There are real patient's behind all of this.

Accept the way it is or go work for a place that pays a DECENT hourly wage......try to find one!
Is this company by chance DSG? nm
nm
by any chance - is this a company in Maine
xx
Is this by any chance a company that starts with "M"??? nm
x
Not a chance in the world. Why would I let the company get beat up again sm
when it has been quiet for the past few weeks?
The company sounds wonderful, by chance....
do you need a really dedicated Radiology MT????
Work not taken-Give company a chance

I have been with Transcend for almost 6 years and while they are not a perfect company they are better than most.  There have been mergers in the past-I actually came from the other MDI (which was a much more laid back company).  As far as I've seen with past mergers you get to keep your work.  They don't take you off it and give it to someone else.  That makes no sense to have to train new MTs for your accts and you on something else.  I know you are unhappy that you have to make a change but give Transcend a chance.  They are a good company. Is it a good fit for everyone?  No, but you won't know until you give it a chance with an open mind.  And before the bashers get on and say I am management, I am not, just another in the trenches MT who has worked for other services in the past. As far as outsourcing, I know it is done but as far as I can tell it is not a lot.  I work on 2 different platforms and both have plenty of work and have had for quite a while now.

Is Caretech a company located in Michigan by any chance. nm
;
I worked for SS and some people were very RUDE and I am talking about the editing people in some
instances.  It ALL depends on the person, as it does with any company.  They paid on time and the lady over me was very nice, but boy the person in QA was mean to EVERYONE!!  Never seen anything like it before.
A company is ONLY supposed to verify that someone worked there, what dates they worked, whether PT o
and last date worked. It opens everyone up to a lawsuit if more is given, so most companies are told by their attorneys and business advisors to verify only.

No one has a right to a reference, only verification of employment.
The people I know who worked there said they

I know a handful of people who have worked at Spheris and they all left for the same exact reason - they could never make the impossible line count (apparently it is rather high) and they also couldn't make any money (the pay isn't great either).  Spheris seems to be willing to hire MTs without experience, so it is probably a good place to start so you can have something on your resume.  Don't expect to learn much though, as quality does not seem exist at Spheris or is at best random.

Spheris is a very large company, and a perfect example of a case where bigger is not better.  They are heavy into India - they took an account away from my company and sent it right over to India.

Probably the only people making any money at Spheris are in management.

Worked for them, nice people, low pay. nm
nm
For the people below who worked at Meridian
How long did you stay before you left?  I've been here a few months and beginning to wonder if I should cut my losses now or just give it a little more time to try to build up my production.  Still haven't met quota for benefits after 3 months.
I worked there a few months ago. People very

nice, but disorganized.  Kept losing my work.  Sound files were really bad, only worked on one account so it could have been just that account.  Platform so/so, but looking at upgrading within the year and I don't know what platform.

They are a fairly small company, I think less than 50 MTs.

I worked for them for a few weeks. Very nice people (sm)
I just could not make their minimum and found platform to be cumbersome - but it may have just been me.
AMERICANS NEED TO KNOW
Agree with you wholeheartedly. Need to start making Senior Citizens and Boomers aware. Go to AARP and scream about it. We need to find out the best way to make Seniors aware of all the facts, especially in places like FL - they have a huge voting block. Any suggestions on ways to do this, ways that we can all help?????
Americans are bad too
Here is the problem. If American MTs were perfect there would be no competition. I've edited Indians and Americans and some Americans are great!!! But some are just as bad as Indians.
So why shouldn't the MTSO outsource, pay an Editor to clean the mess and keep the change. I don't agree with it but that's the way it is. I think it's horrible. The pay should be better for the good Americans, that's all.
Worked for them years ag. GREAT people to work for. nm
.
I only worked there briefly, but great people, and pay always on time. sm

They do have a thing where you have to get a paper check for the first 90 days, then you can have direct deposit.   The account that I was on used ExText.

Hope this helps.  Good luck.

Any MT Companies that have only Americans?
Any companies in the US that hire and keep their American workers and do not outsource to India?  How about Spheris?  Anything?
not sure of the exact # but there are more Indians than Americans
nm
Indian MTs also pay much less to take the test than Americans do. nm

It is a violation of the Americans with Disabilities Act
to ask any health or disability-related questions (including to see your medical records) until a definite, firm offer has been MADE. If this occurring, I would recommend the person it is happening to call any disability rights lawyer, who would take it in a heartbeat.
I think you are right, but if us Americans jumped ship as soon as
it gets rocky, they would sink, but we hang on and on and wait for it to get better and then it doe not!
I worked for them PT briefly -- nice people but sound quality was awful. sm

That was a long time ago, though, and things could have changed.  If I remember, they paid decent wages.

Good luck.

I worked there part-time briefly. People are very nice to deal with, sm
and pay was okay.  You had to wait 90 days to get direct deposit, and until then checks were mailed, which is a bit of pain, but they were always on time.  I didn't care that much for my account, but the leader was always quite helpful.  They must be a bit disorganized, though, as I still get messages from the help desk to help out, and I have been gone at least 3 months!  And the help desk is apparently in India, if that makes any difference to you.
I have heard that some savvy Americans are moving
.
If Americans are a little thin-skinned and anxious right now, (sm)
it's certainly not without good reason! All of us, either directly or indirectly, have been affected by offshoring of ALL American work.
I am American. Are you helping Americans get jobs? nm
x
Americans have been working in Saudi Arabia
for a very very long time. Where you been?

you would live in a security compound with all Americans around you...sm
not in the Arabian desert on a camel!

Read the manual!

Americans edit Indian work, never Indians
I was asked to sign something that said I would not tell that I edited Indian work. I would not sign that. Indians cannot edit Indian work.
duh
Americans have to do it.
American, yes I guess we still count southern as Americans
Just to let you know, doing grammar or spelling policing here can get you tossed off. Not being ugly, just knowing.
Focus Infomatics uses Indians to edit Americans' work
They do make mistakes. But if you point it out to them, at least they are willing to learn, they don't get all huffy like Americans do, and the Americans should have better grammar, etc. in the first place!
Toyota factories are in the U.S. and hire a large % of americans, my sibling works in ...sm
motor assembly division, and has never worked for a more respecting, generous and thoughtful company. Anyone who thinks buying a Toyota makes them guilty of buying a foreign made car, this is certainly not true now days!  They are right here in the US and have one of the most dependable, long-lasting vehicle on the road. I think your analogy was a little off-base with all due respect.  Have a good day!
Best company I have ever worked for, and I have worked for a lot!
I can't believe some of the things these people say here, and have to wonder if it just the same person or two bashing. I have been at MDI for four years and I do not have a low workload and I get treated very, very well.
People would rather the company be (sm)
2 days behind in their work to insure work for all.  Doesn't work that way.
Company no, people yes
I don't know about the company itself, but I do know personally people who work there and they are just the kindest, nicest people you'd ever want to work with and for. No, I don't work there, mainly because there are no openings in what I do, but you shouldn't hesitate in applying.
How many people (and for what company) (sm)
actually keep a manual log of all jobs you do?
Perhaps they are the only MT's at the company. How many people
@!&
I liked the people who ran the company
General info needed, such as their general pay rates, flexibility in schedules, direct deposit, pay on time, and anything else that may be helpful.

My pay rate was 7 cpl for an easy ortho acct. I'm guessing it could range between 7 and 8 cpl, but ask and I'm sure you will get an answer. Flexibility wise, they want their work back within the agreed TAT. No direct deposit was available and I don't remember having a late pay. They give you your work and leave you alone, which is good if you don't like to be hounded. I had to give them up because of other commitments, and now work outside the house, but wouldn't hesitate to work for them again if it weren't for me working away from home.
I know 3 people in the company
the owner, Kristal and my immediate boss. I know of no others who work there- I was told when you assume it is usually wrong and this is what has happened with my being taken for an owner?/boss?/higher up? - as far as stealing, have no knowledge of things going on. It is strange the posters seem to have so much more information than me. I do my work, keep my nose to the grindstone and stay out of other's business. I happen to love my job- even after my retirement in a few months I still hope to work there. Prayers going up.
That is exactly how quick this company can get people going.
This company truely is one of the best. I feel like I am honestly part of a great family!
I think it is. He worked for my company
and this is the name he went by.  Might not be his birth name, but isn't just an internet moniker.
How do you know? Have you worked there? Maybe the company

just expects their MTs to do their job. Ever think of that?

I ask because I have worked for the same company

for 15+ years, and I don't like the way they are conducting their business right now.  So, I ask.  I think, like everything, you can take it with a grain of salt, BUT when you see a consistent complaint, then there is cause for alarm.

I also want to know if a company pays fairly, keeps their word with regard to what is offered, if they have a high number of ESL doctors on their accounts, what type of transcription platform they use and is it easy to learn, and how quickly and accurately QA answers questions.

Those are not things that can be observed from an ad for employment and instead come from the people who work for a company or have worked for a company.

If this is the only company you have worked for then you don't know

there is any better out there.   I don't mean this to be ugly, but if you only have one year of experience you aren't qualified to be an editor, I don't care how good of an MT you are.  It just isn't enough experience and speaks tons for the quality of work that is produced.   Since I was also in QA I know the kind of work that is produced.   I've been in the business nearly 20 years and I'm still learning.

I was actually offered a management position with SS after working for them for only 4 days, so obviously I'm good at what I do and they had no complaints with me.    Everything I said is/was true.
