Both are good companies -- depends upon what you are looking for. sm

In Reply to: Sorry... MDI-MD nm - Looking
With MDI-MD, you are a statutory employee, meaning they take out FICA, but not your state or federal taxes, and there are no benefits. You do not have to adhere to a rigid schedule. You make a commitment for x-number of lines per day and have a 24-hour window in which to do those lines. Every 2 months you submit a calendar telling them which days you will work. If I recall correctly 2 weekends are required per month. There is no extra pay for holidays or weekends, but their pay scale is way above average. Some accounts are internet accounts, and for some you need a C-phone with unlimited long distance. They use Bayscribe as a platform, which is very easy to use and has a built-in expander. The liaisons and QA people are quite pleasant and easy to work with, and Dorothy cares about people.
With TransTech, you are an employee, and you are required to work a scheduled shift, Sunday through Thursday or Tuesday through Sunday, I believe. However, unlike the poster noted below, there IS flexibility -- all you have to do is email management and let them know you need to make a change that day. You get abou 3.3-something PTO hours per pay period, which amounts to about 11 days a year, which increases the longer you are there. They have reasonably priced insurance -- medical, dental, vision -- and have just recently added a 401k plan. The pay scale is a bit lower, but they have a nice incentive tier that is easy to achieve. They use ExText as the platform, which is Word-based and very easy to use. QA and management staff are friendly and supportive, and management seems to truly care about the employees. Again, it is a great company as well.
Hope this helps!
Good luck!

Personally, DSG is a good fit for me. Pay is good and on time, sound quality depends on the account
and I like the platform. There is not much weekend work, although sometimes is available. I get along well with the management, no major complaints. There is pay incentive once you get over a certain number of lines in a pay period. I work as an IC, so can't help with benefits, insurance questions, etc.
Of course, it depends on the companies, but IMHO....sm
It has been my own experience (almost 20 years now) that I have been happiest, on average, with smaller companies versus large ones. It seems the larger companies are big on hype, big on promises, have fancier websites, but when it comes down to working conditions, how valued the employee is, communication with the company, being MT-centered, the local or smaller companies have ALWAYS been better for me in pay, supervisors, administration, and even the little perks, so much more personalized. Of couse, this is a generalization. It seems the larger the company, the more you are a number, the more they can lie and shuffle you around, change all the rules on you, etc......and again, just my opinion and experience. I also learned so much more from smaller companies because they were always willing to explain, mentor, help, which busier, huge companies just cannot do. Anyway, very good luck to you, rooting for you either way!!!
depends on what you consider to be good
I did excellently on the tests for MT and QA and was offered what they said was their top tiring rates and it is an INSULT to those of us who have been in this industry for years. Bonuses are NOT something to count on (no certainty) but the bills that have to be paid are (and that IS a certainty).
A lot of it depends on the account, but a good
It is like a Word-based program, but a lot of the functions from Word were not incorporated into BT. If you have to change large blocks of text, once you highlight it either takes an extremely LONG time for the program to work or it will just freeze up altogether, in which case you have to back out and relog entirely. Imagine doing this on every 3rd report and then you'll have a good idea of what it is like on some accounts.
On some accounts the sound quality is so poor it is either all crackles or volume so low you can barely make out a word. If you're a person who likes to use the keyboard more than the mouse, it has very few function keys and you can't program your keyboard for your own hotkeys. Autocorrect does not work with it and most Expander programs do not work with it either.
On my computer we had to reload the whole program several times because they figured it was just a bad download. So even if you get an account that some people have no problems with, it's hard to tell what the precipitating factor is that will make it freeze up or not work well with other computers. There is really no rhyme or reason as to why it works well for some and why it doesn't for others. That's why tech support is having such a hard time. They don't know the total ins and outs of the software because they didn't develop it. It was developed by a company called M-Modal and so whenever there is a problem that tech support can't handle, they have to contact M-Modal. The problem could be hours or days before corrected. And there is no downtime. The loss is YOUR loss, not the company's. It is by far the worst program I have ever worked with in my 15+ years in MT.
Like anything, it depends on the company. Some good, some bad. nm
x
again, depends on what you call good
As with anything in life good and bad is relative - only 3 years ago if you called 8 or 9 cents a line good you would NOT have known what you were talking about. For well educated, hard working people as we are to being accepting less and less money is a CRIME and this industry is getting away with it. For someone with a test score to be offered less than 10 cents a line for day work is a DOWN RIGHT INSULT. Everyone else's salaries go up - and ours go down. We should NOT was accepting this situation.
not as good as typing but depends
I do both VR and straight typing...so much of how productive I am in VR depends on things other than myself: like how easy it is to get through the system, how good/bad the dictators are, how much dead air space there is (that I'm not getting paid for) and how good/bad the starting document is, etc.
That's what's so frustrating to me about VR...my ability to be highly productive is being controlled by more factors out of my control.
Of course, depends on your line rate, but $700.00 is very good for MT right now. I can make over
that if the work is available, and I put in more than 40 hours. I think to make $1000.00 you need to have lots of expansions and dictators with which you are familiar, IMHO.
Overall it is a good company. Your paycheck, however, depends on the account SM
you have, and your level. I am currently a level 8 with a high number of ESLs. I like Spheris the company though, but dislike my account.
7 Cents can be good - it all depends how the line is calculated - sm
I see posting all the time saying don't accept 7 cents a line that we are worth at least 9 cents or more. Well it all depends how the line is calculated. These national companies usually pay character with or without spaces and some of them have their own counting software where you just have to go with what they say and can't actually verify what is really being counted. With that said you can be paid 7 cents a line counting Keystrokes (bolding, underline, etc - example the word paid is four characters but if you bold it then it is 8 characters and if you underline too then it is 12 characters) which would usually equal around 9-10 cents or more a line depending on the format of the document. So it is very misleading when some transcriptionists say 7 cents is insulting when actually it is good if you are getting keystrokes with Abacus and you can actually verify it yourself to make sure the company is paying for all the headers, footers, template, shifts, tabs, spaces, returns, bolding, italic, underling, caps, etc. You really have to investigate how the line is calculated to be able to compare. So to all you people that keep saying don't accept it....I bet the ones that have are actually getting paid more than you in the long run!
It depends on if this is editing other MT's work or VR. If VR, that is a good rate. nm
nm
Adminstrative Assistants and VanBelkum. Good companies, good pay!
x
Paid for spaces depends on the account. Good company. nm
x
Depends on the account. Work on VR lately has been slow. Just like all companies, we have slow times
Honestly though, I have only had 2-3 times in the past 2 years where it was like the other day...no work... It did pick up later but I just think it's important not to make someone think we're overloaded with work all the time. That would not be fair to them if they end up with high expectations.
I've easily done 600, but it depends on the way a company counts lines and it depends on the
dictators. Obviously, if you have a good share of ESL, there is no way you could ever do 600 or 700. On really difficult ones, I usually run around 400 lines an hour and I have been working on this platform for 3 years.
WHERE ARE THE GOOD COMPANIES??
All I see is negative! Where is the positive or are they the ones that keep quiet to keep their great jobs to themselves (believe me, I'd do the same thing! ) ..... but THROW US A BONE, willya??
thanks!!
Good companies?
Would appreciate suggestions for companies who pay for both spaces and headers with a decent platform. Wondering if there is such a thing anymore.
Good companies
So, should I assume Transhealth is the only company out there that pays for spaces, headers and has a good platform???
Any good companies out there that
do hire SEs? Also, is MQ the only company that uses DEP?
Good companies.....without...sm
Okay guys call me an idiot for not knowing that Medware has an India division! Now, I'll risk the flaming yet again.....Can you recommend companies who offer employee status without outsourcing to India?
Good health insurance coverage at a reasonable rate for single person, nice organized people to deal with, paid on time, and the sooner they could put me to work, the better!
Please feel free to email me privately. My address should be somewhere on this page!
Cindy
Are there any GOOD companies out there willing to
hire people that aren't exactly newbies anymore, but don't have the 3, 5, or 10 years most companies are looking for? I have been working for about 16 months (SE) as an at home MT for a big national company, but would really like to go elsewhere, either as an SE or an IC. Any info would be appreciated!
Good companies for IC or SE? (sm)
I am looking for a company that will let me work to my best potential - that being working on the same account(s) with the same dictators (say less than 30) so that when I spend months creating macros and finally get up to making $25+ an hour, I don't get yanked from that account just to start the process all over. I can produce up to 400 lph and send almost nothing to QA when I am allowed to get familiar with an account(s)/dictators and then stay on that account. I have been with 5 companies in the last 6 years; same thing every time. No matter how good the company, I can't and won't work this way. I am very good at what i do, I just need to find my place. Six years experience in mostly multispecialty clinic with a couple years of acute care (no ops, but all other work types), QA scores above 99% (on familiar accounts), need a flexible schedule, and when I meet my line counts for the day, I want the option of deciding whethere I continue to work for the other 3-4 hours that day. Any ideas??? TIA
Any good companies out there?
xx
anyone know of any good MT companies
I am looking for a part-time position with a great company, large or small, that does clinic work...specifically ortho and family practice. Can you either post or send an e-mail w/the name of the company?
Thanks so much!!!!
Good companies.
Thanks!

Good Companies
I'm new to the board so I'm sure this has been listed before, but can anyone tell me what some good Transcription companies are? I'm interested in an IC position where I can work when and how much I want. I'm already an IC for a local company, but I need to supplement my income. I'm looking for a company that just has a good overall feel to it. Any help would be appreciated.
Good companies
I absolutely agree that this is not a hobby. The other side of the coin though is services want the cost savings of ICs and then are screaming when they do not get the same level of committment as they would from an employee. A true IC should be making enough to offset the lack of benefits and of course have a professional attitude to their commitment. Instead we are getting women/men? who are willing to take less without benefits because their spouses can cover them, and then want to do it as a little hobby on the side. Bottom line, everyone gets what they pay for.
Probably because there are not that many good companies for QA
and those two are known to be good companies. That's just a wild guess but I know as fact both companies have an excellent reputation with their QA staff. TransHealth is high on the list also for having good benefits.
Good Companies
Thank you Anon. At least someone is courteous here in helping out a newcomer.
As I said it isn't good, but still is what most companies
are paying, though some pay even less than that.
Good companies
I job hopped until I found a great fit. I knew within 2 weeks at each company what would give me what I wanted. It took a long time to get past the hype from recruiters, supervisors, etc., but these are my conclusions.
Pay per line is very important, but how is that line determined? No spaces but pay same as companies who count spaces? Dump the company.
A smooth platform to work on. It does no good to have great tech support if you have to use tech support a lot. It takes a minimum of 10-15 minutes for each call you have to make. That cuts your production by 1/6 to 1/4 during the hour you have the problem. If you call tech support 4 times a day, that's almost an hour of nonproductive time. Dump the company.
Mouse clicking. Learn the keyboard commands and if they do not work, dump the company. Every time your hands leave the key board to reach for that mouse you have cost yourself a few lines.
Absolute verbatim - you will never make enough macros or shortcuts to get a line count. Dump the company.
Two weeks free work - don't even give them 1 day without pay. Run.
Benefits - good, but not the end of the world. You can get insurance at reasonable rates most of the time, or at least comparable to what you would have to pay at the companies. Give insurance minimal consideration. Paid time off? Same thing. Paid downtime because of company problems - consider this company- they care about you and are willing to accept responsibility for the problems.
Big Brother watching you all the time? Run fast.
E-mails half answered or you get an inappropriate answere? Run away, you are not important and no one in management will ever listen to you.
No raises? Forget it unless they offer incentive pay.
No incentive pay? If no raises forget it.
Have to buy a lot of expensive equipment from them every time they make a change? Absolutely not!
No direct deposit? Depends on reliability and how fast a check is replaced, but direct deposit is cheap for employer now, and they should offer overnight delivery if no direct deposit.
It is far cheaper for a company to hire an IC than an employee (self employment tax is one of the big differences) so as an IC you should make more.
Fancy parties and a lot of travel by management to show how much they care? Why don't they take that money and put it in payroll and pay the MTs a little more per line?
My $0.03 for the day.
Good Companies
Ditto! Well said!
Any good IC companies out there?
I am seriously considering purchasing my own equipment and telling MQ where to go, after working for them 10 years, 100% QA and still not even at 9 cpl. I am wondering what some of the good IC companies are.
good companies
Basing your lack of success in finding a good company over Nov and Dec is starting with your back against the wall. You probably will hear from some of those companies in the coming months as the work once again flows.
Have someone check over your resume. There may be something you can do on that end to stand out better with prospective companies.
You have to do your research on your own. Asking on these boards is inviting thousands to look at the same companies with you. Look at local area (2 hour radius) first. Go to yahoo yellow pages and look up transcription companies in your area. Make phone calls. My best paying sub account was not something I found online.
Good luck.
Good companies
I love it at MDI. You might also consider Landmark. They are considered to be good, honest people, and do not offshore. A friend of mine swears by Acusis.
good for you! I don't get these companies sm
that want you to bust your fanny, give you NO account specifics and then gripe when you do the best you can.
As far as the little words in between, I am assuming you are talking about the and's and the's and it's, etc. This stuff doesn't change the meaning of a sentence.
If more MTs would do what you were doing, we could clean this profession up. Problem is people need their jobs and can't quit without a plan.......at least most can't. Like you, I quit without a plan too, but years ago I made a plan in case push came to shove. Well push they did and shoved I did!
There are good companies out there sm
But, unfortunately, this is not one of them...I wish you luck finding a good company to work for. That is very unprofessional, and personally, I am glad that I did not go through the testing process. Hang in there.
First Choice and QT. Both good companies, too.sm
I recently moved to an area that doesn't offer broadband yet, and I've been using dailup with these 2 companies since. If you can stand how looooonnnng it takes to download with dialup, suggest you give either of these companies a call. Transmitting back the transcribed reports doesn't pose any problems, for some reason. Not sure if either has a lot of radiology work, though. Definitely worth checking. Good luck!
DSG and GIMT are 2 good companies.
Talk to Jodi Walsh at DSG or Mary Shortman at GIMT. I currently work at both.
all companies have good points and all have bad
I have been with DSG for over a year. I have worked for other companies as well. Every company had their good points and their bad. I think it is just what you are looking for in a company. DSG pays on time, their line rate is decent, there is plenty of work (except during the slow times, but everyone goes through those) communication is always open. I have never had sound issues. There are good dictators and bad dictators, along with ESL dictators. Overall, they are decent and the MT Supervisor for DSG is the best I have ever met.
Any good companies for op notes? nm

No you are not defeated. There are some good companies out there.

Any good companies that pay weekly?
I am an experienced MT with 10+ years under my belt. I need to find a position that pays weekly if at all possible. We have relocated due to my husband's job so I am on the hunt. Thank you for your help and time.
Good companies to work for.
Can anyone list 3 or more companies that are really good to work for? I am looking for employe status. I just left a company where I really got burned and ended up getting laid off because of no work for WEEKS. I really want a reliable company and any helpful information would be great. I have 5 years experience. Any advice would be so helpful. Thank you for your time.
Does anyone know of good companies hiring for QA... sm
.... with hourly pay? Thanks.
Any good companies who pay bi-weekly
I am looking for a good company that pays bi-weekly - fair pay - good platform - decent accounts!
Thanks everyone!
Any good Editing companies?
Does anybody know of any good VR editing companies taht have lots of work with employee status?
TIA
Good IC status only companies?
Does anybody know of any good IC status only companies? I currently work at a hospital, but I have to come back home to work due to my husband's military career. I really need a flexible schedule since I have a three year old with special needs.
TIA!
Any good companies who might be hearing and
for a new company, but really want to apply only at ones who use voice recognition as opposed to straight transcribing. I love ASR now, and that's the only reason I've been staying at my current job. Are there other companies who use ASR? Thanks for any leads.
Are there any good companies that pay on time?
