Before you install more memory...

...you might want to check to see what's running on your computer that could be eating up the memory (or processing cycles).
Unfortunately, few computers boot up in a clean state because a lot of applications are pre-configured to start up automatically as services on bootup. Your task bar is one clue to what's running, but some applications don't present themselves as taskbar icons.
Those that do, you can usually right-click on the icon and select Exit or Shut Down from the menu that pops up. Unfortunately, this is no guarantee that doing so will actually return their memory space back to the operating system.
Also, certain antivirus and anti-spyware software can consume a lot of both memory space and processing cycles. Avira and AVG have, in my experience, been the among the least burdensome of the different ones that I've used.
And, of course, if you do install memory yourself, be absolutely sure that it's the right type of memory and be sure you know whether you have to install them in banks or pairs, or can add single memory modules. A lot of owner's manuals provide good instructions about adding memory, fortunately, and the memory retailers on the Internet usually have the information for each make and model of computer as well.
Also, note that it's not just slots that determine how much memory you can use. Vista 32-bit version will only recognize up to 3 GB, for instance, even if your computer will hold more.
I use a company called Crucial Technology at www.crucial.com for memory and have been extremely happy with the accuracy of their information, delivery time and support.

So far, I'm very impressed, and they are very nice. The cpl could, of course, be higher.....but then again, I always think that of every company I talk to. They do have a shift differential, and I'm going to be working in the evenings. We'll see how it goes, but I'm looking forward to it so far. I just sent in a resume out of nowhere, and it did take a couple of weeks for them to get back to me. From the point I answered back, however, it will have taken 4 days from test to install.

Two things come to mind here relating to your topic (?):
1. She made a 180-degree turn and no one knew.
