Becoming an IC

Sorry, I didn't see your original post,  have  had other things on my mind.  LOL

However, will answer it now.  If you want to become an IC it is fairly simple.  You have a couple of options:

1)  Find a company that hires ICs and apply there.  They cannot, however, give you a set schedule.  You will likely find that most companies who hire ICs don't really hire IC according to the IRS guidelines for independent contractors.  You would have to pay all of your SS taxes including the employers portion yourself and you would have no benefits, unemployment and such.

2)  If you want to be a independent contractor or free-lance for yourself, that is a bit harder.  You would need to find your clients by contacting physician's offices or groups.  The downside to that is don't expect much interest from them as I'm sure all of them are bombarded with others who want to do the same thing you want to do plus many offices are using EMRs so that would further cut your chances.

My best advice would be to find another occupation.  If you read the MT boards you can bet that where there is smoke there is fire.  In other words people don't just come to the boards and post about low pay, no work, etc. because they have  nothing better to do.

As I have said before, I am a retired MT who made a very good living for nearly half a century.  Those days are gone.   I've said, and I mean it, that I would get a job cleaning toilets before I would work in the MT business again.

Working from home may seem like a fine thing and in some ways it is fine but the stress takes its toll, especially if you are trying to work while raising small children unless you have a nanny or can work while the kiddos are sleeping or some other such arrangement.
