I agree, especially when they had to produce a phony number and gave someone's home phone with th
answering machine on. I also feel it's a fishing expedition. I guess we'll all soon find out...
That's odd, I never said anything about trashy notes. I said "significantly higher production.
This is usually because the MT is more motivated as they are being paid by the line. I neve said anything about less quality. Certainly you have a range of speed that continues to assure high quality. You might be motivated to transcribe at the high end of that range if you are paid more to do so.
The percentage of offshoring is higher than 15%, much higher - sm
Two more points - the Indian transcriptionists seemed to get the easy American dictators while the US transcriptionists get the Indian doctors and other ESLs. Never made sense to me. Also, a poster said the work is QA'd before being sent to the client - not all the time and if was then QA needs better training.
No - significantly decreased. Bayscribe stinks! nm

I don't like all the junk mail. This trims it significantly..sm
I also don't like having my credit report hacked. Too much ID theft these days, and my financial advisor said it is the only way to fly these days. One of my credit cards was hacked a few years ago, so this extra precaution is something I'm willing to do to protect myself even more. And, no matter what, ultimately MTs should be hired for their skill and experience, not how much debt is being carried.
If you like a great work environment - Amphion is it!
I could talk for hours about the wonderful attitudes and great hours and references and supervisors...but suffice it to say that Amphion has been a blessing for the 2-1/2 years I've been with them.
I work M-F, can take off early for football games or doctor appointments, as long as I get it in before the pay period is up (and it's approved, can't just leave the computer, obviously). They have study groups for CMT, a message board, IM is always available for questions/problems, the IT department is top notch and friendly, trainers are a dream, the work is always there and your account does happen to run dry, there's plenty of other accounts to keep you busy.
They're a dream come true. I've been with 5 other companies (national and private) and I honestly never see myself leaving Amphion. It's like a 2nd family - and they really cares about you.
Good luck in your decision - if you decide to come to Amphion, WELCOME! :)
And wherever you choose - congratulations!!
I agree. In a normal work environment, not only
would we be making more money, but they'd be supplying our electricity, internet, computers, headphones, etc. MTSOs are raking in the bucks while we're struggling to just barely get by, and then they want to whine about how big their profit margin is! Puhleeze! Get rid of some of your assistants, HR personnel, and mid-management if you want to increase your profit. Don't take it out on the MTs who are actually earning you money at their own expense!
And, Indian owned. Not a good working environment.
Worse than Focus or Transcam.
Pay will drop significantly with Dictaphone EXSpeech 1/2 per line, or something to that tune. nm
0
TransTech has no work; that is why; lost accounts; overhired significantly BAD nm
Does TT care? No, they get their big paychecks no matter if the MT's do or not.
18 PTO. ha ha ha ha ha ha and you think you can produce
Do they happen to talk about how lines are attained NOW?
Remember we are into an area of counting lines we haven't been in before...EDITING.
They have us totally in a fog. And you think we can even keep up with what they are doing, much less double check them?
MQ will never offer anything that will do anything but make you carry all the risk and they will make all the profit. And when you drop by the wayside because you are broke, they will kick you to the curb and hire another body to EDIT. Whatever that heck that is supposed to be in their world.
I know that when my company has MTs who produce
poor quality work that they usually don't get much work or told that work is slow. They do this instead of firing the MTs in most cases. I have seen the work of the MTs who say what good quality work they produce, but it is horrible, not even spellchecked. I know this may not be the case in every situation though. I see people who also work for my company (not TT) complaining about lack of work or not enough work, but I have always had all I could handle and there was always more if I wanted it. My MTSO says it is very hard to balance the work. If she hires more MTs when work is plentiful, then when it gets slow she either has to spread it thin all around or someone has to go without. If she doesn't hire when there is extra work then we get out of TAT and we are asked to work more in order to stay in TAT. I personally wouldn't want to have to deal with those issues because it is a no win situation.
And if you produce an odd # of lines do they cheat
you out of that 0.5 cents or do they round it up and give you a bonus of 0.5 cents?
I produce around 1000 lines per day...
I have seen my production increase quite a lot in the last four months. When I first started I could only get about 500 lines a day...so I get a little more every day. :-)
Does anyone know of a company that is looking for an IC to produce at least 500 lines/day . . . sm
and I can work on my OWN SCHEDULE, just as long as it's back in 24 hours, and who pays at least 8cents/line per 65-characters with spaces??? I keep applying to places that seem to fit this, but then they want me to work certain hours, that's not what being an INDEPENDENT CONTRACTOR entails. Thanks you guys!
M-TEC and Andrews produce MTs that are the cream of the crop.
M-TEC's course usually takes anywhere from 9-18 months to complete. I'm not sure about Andrews.
I have hired MTs from both those schools as well as other lesser-known schools, and the M-TEC and Andrews grads are the only ones that were worth keeping onboard.

Andrew graduates produce like pros.

Why is it hard to produce quality work?
You are either good at your job or not. If not, then find another line of work. If you don't think you are paid enough to take the time to produce quality work, then find another company to work for.
To be honest I would not like my health insurance riding on MQ with having to produce this and that
as they do have a nack of running people out of works and onto multiple accounts. I feel much safer carrying my own health insurance as an SE and not having to worry about MQ coming up with some other quirk in the future and you have to scramble for health insurance.
I guess it does not matter how nice someone is, if you can't produce due to disorganization, huh?
I am just really nervous. The company I have been with for over a year does not offer benefits and it is really scary to go switching jobs for benefits. I do have a family and need benefits. But I would rather be certain in my accounts and my company that I am work then to take a huge leap of faith, get a job where you cannot meet production due to whatever reasons and then be out of money, job, etc. This is a scary field to switch jobs in. Thanks for all info! I appreciate it! You may have just saved me from making a huge mistake.
I'm with them. Good work environment, easy accounts and I'm making really good money. nm
If the off-shores produce "client-ready reports" why do you need THREE tiers of QA? nm

True. bottom line - our job is to produce accurate, legal - sm
medical documents in the ENGLISH language. No one is ever quite as proficient in a second language as they are their native one. We spend our whole lives continuing to learn the nuances of our own language. If my medical record affects my care, or a possible court case, and ESPECIALLY my ability to receive & retain health insurance, you better believe I want it typed by a person for whom English is their #1 language, and by someone who is paid enough to actually care about the quality of the job they are doing.
generally, yes

Generally, no...
Acute care is considered H&Ps, operative reports, discharge summaries, and consultations, although some companies might include ER as acute care. I think it really depends on what you were told when you were hired.
Benefits generally add 40% to cpl and TH has
~
I was just being generally silly - but not
sure who my cohorts are! I assure you, I'm a lone jokester.
How long does it generally take...sm
Focus Infomatics to let you know whether you passed or failed the testing for employment?
Generally 3-4.5 cpl. Much lower than transcribing.

I actually meant this generally, I do not think it's all that different in other states....
from what I've been reading and hearing from others. My husband and I have separate insurance each with our own employer and pay a fair rate of 100 a month or so and they are very good plans and not that HMO garbage. BUT we don't have kids. We have an excellent income and live on the east coast too but that would not make it *okay* for me if we had to pay those rates. So, right now I'm thinking of definitely nixing that whole having a family idea we've been discussing. I was hesitant anyway because I feel this world is just not a nice safe place anymore. So this may just seal the deal for me. What a country, huh? : (
Birdie, where, generally, do you live?

I'm generally happy with my company. SM
I have great supervisor, lots of PTO, helpful coworkers. I have all the work I can do on a consistent basis and no one bothers me.
One problem: OUR PAY KEEPS GOING DOWN.
Thanks for listening.
A big MTSO generally doesn't lay off.
They'll come up with every excuse in the book not to authorize unemployment. Are you working now or have you been out of work since you contacted your supervisor? I would say contact your supervisor again and tell her that if you don't hear from her by (fill in your date), then you will be forced to apply for unemployment since there is no work and you haven't been offered a secondary account. Since you say that the other accounts are all sufficiently staffed, I don't know if this would do much good anyway because then they'll give you a secondary, but you still won't have work. Maybe it's time to start looking at other companies that are hiring.
Generally, will companies allow you that "learning curve"?
Most of the jobs advertised say Must have X years of acute or hospital experience . . . When I see that, I just move on. After so much time, don't they require that you do a certain # of lines? Were you able to reach that # and still feel like with all the time you spent researching, you still had a little bit of a life besides work? I'll try to test for any company that will let me test for acute care just to see how I do. Thanks for sharing your experience. It gives me hope.
Conference dictations are generally extremely sm
tedious as the voice quality is awful. Consider that when I was in college back in 1970 I made $1.50 a page straight typing from text. You'll be transcribing, not straight typing, a conference or interview.
Work is generally slow all around. Easter
is early, plus spring break in lots of places. I've been on OT for the last 2-3 weeks and ran out of work yesterday and probably will today too. Enjoy it while you can.
I am just generally a worry wart but I am trying to work on it.
I guess that is why the e mails get to me. My job is really important to me, and I take pride in it, I always have. So, maybe I need to lighten up. I understand what the OP said, but I guess we have to make choices in life. The boss has a family, they understand we need lives. Guess do more than expected of us, and using the delete key is a good approach. Just need to quit the worrying habit!
Generally the length of time you are required to keep sm
records on file for a former client is codified in your contract with them.
I don't generally label cheerleaders as Management, but that has to be one. NM

Most generally lots of people on here to start trouble????
Bringing this back up from below posted by Babe People come here to get advice, and seeking opinions on companies good or bad. Sure, there are a few bad apples that will not be happy anywhere they go but I think most of us all want the same thing, an honest and good company to work for. To post only the positive would be great, but then as we all know, there are companies that do their advertising right here posing as MTs, only to find out later when we get burned and have to start the entire process of testing and bouncing yet to another job. You are either very naive about the MT world we live in today, or more likely you are a company official that doesn't like anything negative posted about your company, specially when its lots of it. I don't think anyone is stupid enough to believe everything they see here, but if you see a lot of specifics about a particular company and you experienced it yourself, then you have to give that some credibility and back that person up - this could be good information or bad information. My assessment of KS personally is that I have not seen anything that would sway me in any way. Any information I have seen here leaves me as feeling neutral.I think people just want an honest opinion, thats all. I guess you perceive a negative post warning about another company's ripoff techniques starting trouble Hmmm.. makes me wonder what chair you're sitting in, sure don't sound like an MT.
Generally, benefits cost the employer $3/hour, so that's sm
probably how yours would figure out, too. 9/cpl/65 is a respectable rate for benefits. Like the other poster said, it depends on what you need and what your scheduling preferences are.
It's every two weeks on Monday, but with direct deposit you generally get it
on Saturday and I even know a couple of MTs who get it on Friday.
Generally, with holidays, patients put off elective procedures, sm
more doctors take off, and generally you can count on a lighter workload, especially with Christmas and Thanksgiving. I tell myself I will save up and prepare for it, but usually I end up scrounging frantically for work, so do not feel alone.
Oh, and pay no attention to the whining comments. Most of us have compassion and understand the panic that cam come along when you realize you have run out of work for the day or whatever.
Hang in there ... it will get better.
Whatever it is, I've learned that it'll generally keep until morning.
Plus if I've been jangled awake in the night by the phone, and am only half-conscious (and wholly p****d off), I'm not going to be of much use, anyway.
If it's bad news, I'd rather read it as an email while I'm having my coffee in the morning.
Sorry to say, this is generally not a good place for support or info. sm
In fact, it's pretty much a cesspool (no offense to true cesspools worldwide) filled with just enough folks who get their jollies being contrary, rude, deceptive, nasty ... you name it.
There are other boards that require logins and therefore there's less of the anonymous sniping that is seen here.
And, of course, this post will be deleted, while the nasty ones remain.
Very sad.
OBVIOUSLY YOU ARE A HIGHER UP
OR A SUCK UP THAT CHERRYPICKS ALL THE GOOD WORK AND GETS PAID FOR YOUR SPACES. Get a life and leave us poor people alone.
Higher?
They won't if you don't know how to spell hire.
higher
SS pays higher than that for QA.
higher than DQS
but I get paid for everything whether I type it or not, headers, footers, ADT, etc.
they can higher new MTs
nm
My pay is much higher
I do VR and straight and what you quoted lots lower.
