At this point....I make top dollar at MQ sm

I am part-time and have been working for MQ over 16 years. The day they tell me I have to do ASR, I will quit, but until then I am satisfied with what I make per hour. Look around...there are layoffs everywhere and I am grateful for my job with MQ for now.

If there is a way Spheris can make a dollar at the trans expense, they will find it.

The point I was trying to make was...
that it is very unprofessional for a recruiter to email me and schedule an interview and then not call. This person acknowledged my resume and test, said they were very interested in discussing a position with me and then failed to follow through. That makes the company look very bad. I realize there are recruiters who are great at what they do. I have dealt with other companies and their recruiters have always been very prompt and efficient. I have never been turned down after testing with any company and I am not inexperienced. I am not complaining because I did not get a response from a company after apply for a position, I am complaining about the recruiter not following through with his/her scheduled interview. I already have a job, was just applying for this on the side. I have other things to do with my time than just sit around and wait for the phone to ring.
To make my point-SM
To make my point please see the message decent pay at the time of this board...the poster doesn't want much, but everything I said in my earlier post...now tell me I'm wrong. I will say it again, this job is 24/7, 365...so she thinks she is going to go to a new place, and start from day one working days, no weekends, and have no ESLs plus make great money...these are things you work TOWARD when you have been some place for awhile, not what you get when you are just starting some place. Does she expect the people who have been there awhile to work nights, weekends and do all the ESLs? The poster and others like her are part of the reason the work is going overseas...no one here wants to make any sacrifices.
maybe if you are trying to make a point
about skills you should have proofread this post because I am so not impressed with your grammar. In 10 lines I can count 5 errors. If Transcend is be good or be gone, you might start worrying now.
You'd make more of a point about offshoring sm
if you asked the company representative. Besides, it will save you time. If you feel you don't trust this company now (you mentioned that below), maybe you should keep on looking. Good luck to you!
You make a good point..
You know what, you're right. An experienced GOOD MT will hit the ground running and not need their hand held. I'm sure an experienced, good MT is worth their weight in gold and SHOULD be paid more. There should be a way to do that, and if all those companies out there that are crying because they can't get experienced MTs would compensate in a way that is perceived as more fair, people would be beating a path to their door. The only thing that bothers me is the assumption that all MTs with many years experience are good at what they do. I've seen with my own eyes that this is not the case. Some of them don't seem to even know proper English usage. Why should that person be paid more just because they've put in X number of years? I guess it just reminds me too much of the labor union seniority systems that protect and reward the mediocre. I didn't mean to offend anyone with my post above; just wanted to give another perspective. If I were sitting where you are, I'd probably feel the same way. The MT profession has been eroding for years, and it's got to be tough on those who were part of the good old days of being an MT when they felt reasonably rewarded for their expertise.
You make a ver good Point.
The stuff that I have read was from 2 years ago, alot can happen in two years time. Every company has something wrong with it in someone's opinion. I just saw a lot of bad remakrs about it. Maybe it will be more of a positive experience for me.
I'll try to make this point again...
wake up. MTs are not the first Americans to lose their jobs overseas. Look at your clothing labels, look at our TVs and other entertainment items, look at your children's toys. WHERE were they made. If you want AMERICAN JOBS FOR AMERCAN WORKERS, put your money where your mouth is and BUY AMERICAN. Consider all the toy recalls and the pet food poisoning epidemic from CHINA...How many American workers were displaced when these commodities started coming from overseas. If it's the cheapest brand on the market, it's probably from overseas. Bite the bullet and buy ONLY AMERICAN PRODUCTS TO PROTECT ALL AMERCIAN WORKERS, not just yourselves.
You make a good point
You were able to get some recogniton because the doctor knew who YOU were and the quality that you put out. That doesn't exist much anymore. I think THE major factor contributing to the decline of the MT profession is depersonalization. As employees of MTSOs, we are no longer individuals, but part of a big MT machine that cranks out dictation. The true consumer of the MT product, the doctor, has no contact whatsoever with the person who transcribes the report. That means that there is no recognition for the excellent MT; they are mixed in with all the substandard MTs and the doctor never knows who is typing the report. He gets back good, he gets back bad, and everything in between. Basically, the only reward we get these days is our own pride in doing a good job. Unfortunately, that doesn't pay the bills.
You make a good point -
I think you're spot on ~ each of us has different needs and different capabilities. Some companies get bashed just because they weren't a perfect fit for someone and some companies are really are validly not so good to work for.
I've been with SoftScript for nearly 7 months and I have nothing bad to say. I had about 12 years experience and a few years away - things in this business changed drastically during that time. Softscript gave me a really fair go. I worked for Medquist before for many years and did a short period of time with Spheris, but went back to Australia. I was doing VRE with them ~ that was weird, but not their fault.
Some people can't be satisfied with anything ~ I'm happy knowing I have a job and the people are really nice.
Just my dollar's worth (2 cents doesn't go anywhere anymore)
You make my point. Find what works for you. You
s
Doesn't seem a valid point to me. Most people can make 250 lph sm
so why not do it making 8-9 cpl (or more) and make $24-27 per hour? I don't think $15/hour is much nowadays, but that is just my opinion. I made that 10 years ago in an office setting -- hate to think of going backwards, although I do reailze that is the trend in transcription nowadays, sad to say.
I just hope he/she (and everyone) finds something that pays more than that, especially for IC work.
You make us laff here, girl! Love your point of view! :) nm

It's all about the bottom dollar
Who's going to buy all those cheap products when the peons have no jobs and thus no money. I fear things are going to get a whole lot worse before they get better.
I would bet my bottom dollar you are
under 50! It is really funny because I hear these young starlets talking about how they would never have a face lift. I guess not in your 20-50 age range.
I am making top dollar doing VR
at TTS and I am happy. I use Ex-text and double what I make in lines typing. It all depends on the company and what account you have. Hope this helps.
Ok, well here's the 64 kagillion dollar question
How is their pay, can someone divulge what they're pay is averaging? I'm applying to Transcend and thought I would just ask for curiosity sake.
"almighty dollar". very well put. and its getting almightier.
And the MILLION dollar question is...
Does Transtech get work from Dictaphone? Does Dictaphone have any control over their workload?
THAT is what this entire thing is supposedly about...
Hmmmm, I guess we'll find out when the court case is complete.
Guess you won, sending bottom dollar
but now with the pay like it is, don’t spend it all in 1 place. I glad you like wrinkles, most women do not but a lot either cannot afford or scared to go through with it. At high school reunions I have attended and have no problem with saying have had, most women totally interested in how much, who did mine, etc. etc. Am very glad to have been able to do mine.
The people with the loyalty to the almighty dollar...
.
Carlotta can explain why they do the 900 dollar thing.nm
nm
You are the one who is incorrect. The owner of Zylomed would sell his mother for a dollar if he
They most certainly DO outsource offshore. Perhaps you're not as IN THE KNOW as you thought!
Yes, it is about the almightly dollar. I worked for a hospital who outsourced to Spheris
and the only reason was NOT because they could not find available MTs but it was because it saved them money from having to pay benefits etc..
As far as I understand it, it's not based on line count really, more a set dollar amount earned
a pay period and I fell short $90 of that set amount. You must make X-amount of dollars to be considered FT status. I missed 2 days of work due to illness. I truly think that is the why it is because their policy says that. I still think you should be notified if your benefits are cut in advance so you can either choose to find another job right away so your not without insurance long or at least can purchase an individual policy. Being without insurance is scary to me with all of our kids.
Excellent point, and point in case
look at the charlatan christian in the
Whitehouse who uses religion to push his agenda...
Christian IS as Christian DOES...
I understand your point, my point is why can't MTs and QA work together..
being QA doesn't mean you are above everyone else, you are just an extra set of ears...and why do so many MTs take offense to QA??? That is my point...you made have had bad experiences in the past with QA but not all QA are bad...
Actually, I can see your point AND the opposing point
.
I doubt you will make enough money in 5 hours a week to make
nm
I make 4 cents a line, work part and make
over $500 a week on part.
Great post! I make 0.085 at Keystrokes and make more than at any sm
other company in the last 5 years. Why? Because there is always work for me. I love starting work each day, knowing that the company I work for appreciates me and has plenty of work. Transtech and Keystrokes sound very similar; those of us that work for either can count our blessings that we are not part of the cesspool or huge corporate mess that makes up the biggest few companies. We do not have to worry about our jobs getting sent overseas and we see a future in this business!!!
Yeah, but we don't make what docs make. nm
nm
But we don't even make what in-house make.
It would be different if we made the same as the in-house MTs. In a lot of cases, most of the people working in-house make much more including benefits than we do at home as full-time employees. That's where I think the unfairness comes in. The in-house employees don't all work every single weekend. Most of them rotate at a much higher salary and much better benefits. The MTs at home are expected to fill in for the in-house for less money, less benefits and give more and more back in the form of weekends and holidays. Most remote MTs only receive benefits contingent on production, and even then they're not nearly as good as in-house benefits. How is that equal in the healthcare team perspective?
you might want to make sure you don't make yourself look like an IDOT before you go any further.

I make $1.10 per report and make much more sm
than by the line. Day by day it varies and goes back and forth, but over a long period, it is better by the report. Make sure they pay links though; this is key.
Do Shapin MTs really only make 6 cpl and QAs make 1.5 cpl?
/
Why can't you make money with all OPs? I do all OPs and make
good money. I'm not with WebMedX though.
I'm happy with what I make. I still make more than if I went anywhere else and hardly noone in th
biz gives raises so I feel blessed that I make a lot more than most, raise or no raise.
And always make sure you don't make line
counts that amount to anything. They always place you with impossible ESLs as soon as you start making decent money.
I do see your point. sm
I just don't know how bringing up old news affects the here and now. The article did say that Linda only referred to this time period as the "black hole."
From what I can tell from the article, a lot of court, attorney and ESI quotes were quoted, but no real fresh news, i.e., something present. If this article was never published, I would have never known.
I also understand and recognize your personal feelings. How do you think that this is going to impact you and/or the MT community? It could go both ways of gaining clients or very wary practice managers.
My point exactly, and....
Respectfully, if this story had not been published, you would not have known. You would have not been fully informed of the business history of fraud. What if, for example, instead of selling your business to her, you entered a partnership with her ?? And then found out this history in the newspaper? If it were me, I know I would feel pretty ticked off and deceived. That negative association could possibly last a business lifetime for you.
Execuscribe (Linda) had awards locally, and has been in several news clippings and featured in Inc. magazine. She is definitely in the public eye. She has to take the praise along with the truthful reporting of fraud in her business. She owns both. Would you vote for a political candidate with this history??? Would you want your son/daughter to marry somebody with this history??
Her clients may jump ship -- I know of 2 MTSOs locally who have already received inquiries to change providers. They may change, they may not. Are they wary? YOU BETCHA! But, why is that? Not for anything they have done, but because they may be lumped into the "Execuscribe" category simply by association of being MT. Don't ya think that's a bit unfair? From what I've been told about questions asked to these MTSOs, they have to go in with their defenses lined up about how they DON'T do business, before they can even present how they DO business.
There was no "slant" to RBJ reporting. Simply the facts taken from court records. It's fresh news if it has not been disclosed previously. I, for one, will be watching them closely.
you do have a point! nm
That's my point
The "not saying more" poster said "Don't believe everything you hear about Transcend. The GOOD MTs like this company" and made it sound like if you didn't like Transcend, you weren't a GOOD transcriptionist. Those that left were there for years. They must have been doing something GOOD with the strict QA to last there for years. If they were that bad, why would Transcend expect them to sign a waiver not to sue when they leave? Transcend could always say that the MTs sucked, they were unreliable, their QA was terrible, etc. Instead they want to clear themselves from future lawsuits. That alone says a mouthful. So "not saying more" is just plain wrong in assuming that it's the MTs at fault.
You have a point.
That would be the only drawback for me was the pay. I make 9 cpl now and at Amphion I would probably only make 7.5 to 8 cpl maybe. But I love the fact that I wouldn't have to work, weekends, evenings or holidays and I can spend that time with my family. I also am trying to consider the fact that if I get a good tax return this year I will pay my SUV off and that would save $300 a month. My baby is due any day now. The hospital I am working at has me working Labor Day (if I am not in labor), and Christmas. I worked Christmas last year and that was bad enough but this year will be my baby's first Christmas and mommy will be pounding away at the computer while dh, MIL and my other dd have the big family gathering.
OK I am not bitter.....lol. Probably just PG hormones.
I also see the point, however, sm
I meant no harm, just trying to offer help and/or encouragement to the original poster. Most probably I could have done with just saying QA lest someone be offended. I expect anyone who has ever been in the position of having that type of QA person would call that type of person the same, or worse, than I did. Matter-of-fact, in real life I swore viciously at my monitor over that type QA person and called her everything but a good milk cow. 'Course no one saw or heard me and my email to the super was quite professional and simply referred to her by name. LOL
My point, exactly. Thanks. nm
:)
Yes I am, to the point I am looking for another job. nm
x
This is my point
MTSOs have to be willing to walk away. Yes, the facility can find someone to do it cheaper and more than likely, the quality will reflect this. A company I used to work for had a large hospital account with all overseas MTs on it. I did QA for this account. The MTSO was dumb enough to release several of these MTs from QA which allowed them to upload directly to the hospital. I'm laughing as I type this. Two weeks later, the hospital had bailed. Account gone...POOF!
I can only imagine what those reports looked like that the offshore MTs were uploading. QA is like life support for the offshore MTs. They will always need it 24/7. What company in their right mind would allow these people who understand nothing about the english language and proper grammar - to come off of QA? Unbelievable!
and your point is?
That's not the point...sm
Word Expanders have NOTHING to do with being paid for spaces.
That was my point :)
