As long as it's not a desk clock...

Posted By: tnmt on 2007-05-07
In Reply to: MT Week suggestions - Kelly

I got that from my (ex) company for Christmas one year. Stupidest gift ever.

When I worked in an office, we played games with prizes and ordered in lunch each day, but since I've been at home, I've appreciated gift cards.

I got a very pretty handmade card one year with a gift card and I really appreciated that.

better a desk clock

than a time bomb attached to aforesaid desk clock or even worse a pound of headcheese.

help desk
yes, that doesn't do any good when they only accounts they give you (or even have) are all overflow, they can't just make it appear out of nowhere!!!
Chained to desk
I didn't say you were lying; you may very well have felt that you were chained to the desk. But it's not true that you have to clock out every time you take a break. I don't feel "chained" in any way. I also feel that I'm making decent money. Spheris employs close to 5,000 MT's,and I'm sure some are not happy. Probably most of them are, though, or they wouldn't stay. There are unhappy people in every company, in every business. Not every company is a good fit for everyone, but to call Spheris a "bad" company doesn't make a bit of sense to me. I think it's quite a good company.
What about MT Desk? They are free and very

Chained 2 desk, I hear...
Figuratively speaking of course - but it stands out in my mind that someone said U have to clock in and out to go to the bathroom - yuck. No way, Jose, that's why I left the office!
Does anyone have the # to Spheris Help Desk? My TWS will not open. TIA

Yes, supposed to notify help desk
Every time we run out of work (or at least the first time each day) we're supposed to let them know, because it helps them document workflow issues.  So if OP is always out of work at certain times, her supe would be made aware of it through the help desk, and see a pattern.
Tell me about it. A doc I see, his front desk secretary's (sm)
duties include: answering the phone, which barely rings, and surfing the net. That's the easiest $14.00 per hour job I've seen. We're busting our butts for pennies and she's doing practically nothing. Are we insane? What is it with us? Why do we allow ourselves to accept these insulting ridiculously low wages?
I already know 1 person who died at her desk, and
If MT continues the way it's been going, I'm sure those 2 numbers will go up.
If you work for Precyse now, try calling the help desk, if not sm...

If you're not with Precyse now, you work on one of their PCs with everything already loaded.  My best guess would be to say "no, you can't use a laptop", but I never had to use one, so don't quote me on that.

Hope this helps some

Me too! Got 3 foot pedals under my desk - lots of fun!!
X
My wave pedal would not work..have 2 under my desk.
Had to buy the compatable pedal for Emdat then ended up hating Emdat....
you will if its their problem, call Help Desk, get ticket #.
nm
No one is changed to desk or have to post potty breaks. Probably better than ever,
zz
Thanks for the information..I'm with you.. Not enough desk space or desire to pay a deposit
Probably pass too..
I am back in. The help desk at the hospital told me 10 minutes. nm

I have 3 pedals hooked up under my desk! :) They're not the problem. Software

Kinda funny, they call themselves DTS America, but help desk calls are from India. sm
Otherwise, though, the people are good to deal with, pay on time.  I only worked part time, and my account was on ExText.  After 90 days, you can have direct deposit.

Otherwise, though, the people are good to deal with, pay on time.  I only worked part time, and my account was on ExText.  After 90 days, you can have direct deposit.  I quit a couple of months ago and still get emails and phone calls asking for extra help, so maybe whoever said they are disorganized is correct.  I didn't care for the account I had, but my supervisor was great.
In the "old days", the machine on my desk that played the tapes was called the transciber. sm

People who type the dictation are called transcriptionists.  I realize in this new day and age where people would rather google, spell check and guess rather than look it up in a dictionary or other word reference and actually know the meaning of what they are typing, such things make little difference, but it means something to me.  I also have hated the word typist since I do so much more than just copy type.

I know ... pay me and you can call me anything is the predominating theory here.  I just have noted that it is usually the Indian-based company that uses the term transcriber.

Clock?
Thanks, so far everything I have heard about this company is good.
You are right on the clock - you don't HAVE to sm
log off for everything; that's your own choice. But I do because I like to get a higher line count. If you are worried about how many hours it may take you to get in your time, simply put some time limits on yourself and GET YOUR WORK DONE in that time frame.
We don't clock in/out. If you are away for more

than 15 minutes you need to change your IM status to show you are away.  I answer the phone, door, get coffee, walk the dog, etc. and I don't change my IM status.

You are signed on by the fact that you download work, other than that there is no signing in and out, no clock.

Time clock
I just recently started with them and so far it has not been a problem for me at all.  I have kids as well and was worried about that too.  Feel free to e-mail me if you have any other questions.
what about the weird clock
the clock they sent for MT week, that cracked me up. Makes me dizzy to look at it, how does that help? Agree 100% about ASR.
You are supposed to clock in and out sm
In order to get any bonus money, which is paid according to Lines Per Hour (LPH), you NEED to clock in and out for everything. It makes for a very long day, turning 8 hours into sometimes 10 or even more. I don't clock out to look up words or to go to the bathroom but do clock out for anything longer than 15 minutes. I think PTO starts from day one.
PTO/time clock
PTO is lower than average per pay period.  Clocking in and out is a pain.  It does take a long time to get in your 8 hours.  Nice people.  Lots of ESL.
you don't have to clock out but it helps sm
as far as your lph (lines per hour) rate for bonus money. You finish a job, when you release it, you are asked if you want to release this job yes or no and there is a box that says do you want to clock out. If you want to clock out at that time you put an x in that box and release your job and you get clocked out.
No time clock
You just enter in your line counts each day on the employee intranet and submit them at the end of the pay period. I don't really even have a set schedule, but I tend to work afternoons and evenings. I have 2 ER accounts and bounce between the 2 and make excellent lines. My accounts are both internet-based, so I don't have to have unlimited long distance service. I couldn't imagine working someplace where you had to punch a time clock! That would drive me crazy!
TT time clock
No time clock, but have to keep schedule. Not extremely strict, flexible.
time clock
We do not have to punch a time clock at DeVenture.  That is why I accepted a position with them.
Same here. It's like clock-work...
at the end of the pay period. Problem is, first day and a half I'm out of work too so I start out bad and end up bad. Three accounts but you'd never know it. Stayed up till 1 a.m. and got up at 5 a.m. today to get a jump on things and was out by 5:41 a.m. I'm over it and looking elsewhere. Can't live on this.
me too! esp after going through MQ w/t.clock lunacy..
x
ICs don't have to punch a clock, do they?
x
I don't clock out for just a bathroom break or to
get coffee, but the bathroom and the coffee pot are only about 10 and 2 steps away respectively.
Other companies with time clock? Thanks. nm

? re WebMedX time clock, please. sm

Are they picky that you must punch in to the minute you are scheduled, or are they flexible that they just want you to punch in when you work, not necessarily to the minute of your schedule?

I'm not sure I can go back to a time clock either.  I don't have a problem punching when I work, I just have a problem sticking to a very specfic schedule.

Webmedx Time clock
Is the Time Clock for Webmedx really all that bad?  They seem good otherwise - just concerned about working at home w/toddler on that type of strict time clock...
Well that is just silly, unless you are getting round the clock pay.
And I highly doubt that. I was a recruiter, doesn't pay all that great.
TransTech - do they punch a clock? (sm)
or how rigid is their scheduling?
Webmedx ??- Time Clock/PTO
I thought I read somewhere that at Webmedx you have to punch in and out for such things as looking up a medical term or using the restroom; is this the case?  Also, I know they get 6 holidays, but is there any vacation time or sick time during the first year or 2?  Any info appreciated as it sounds like a great place.  THANKS!
Does Wedmedx have a time clock? nm
nm
Well there are other MTs who just applied that have said they have to clock in and out and chose
not to get into that so not sure why some do and some dont.  Maybe different recruiters.  Cant answer that.
It recently changed - we used to have to clock in / out sm
for everything, to keep accurate track of time worked; your bonus was based on LPH and the more accurate your clock, the better your LPH. About a month ago we changed to incentive based on a weekly line count, so hours clocked in are not so important now.
for MT30+: Sorry, but this was then, now is now...We cannot set the clock back....sm
Modern technology ist to be blamed for the downfall of the medical transcription industry done by MTs.

As already seen in many cases, modern technology makes people obsolete and machines are replacing us.
That's what WalMart asked, OT off the clock sm
and was fined, BUT, they did it before too, according to the newspaper, so it probably is just a business write off deduction. Company nnames should be sent to the labor board and let them check it out. Present the problem, Google labor board for address and send in the names.
and the question about the time clock,
that should have been a yes or no answer -- but a whole paragraph that left me still not knowing the answer, and BTW, THAT was an important one for me.
Regarding Time Clock at Transcend...
I saw some of you asking downthread about how schedules work at Transcend.

Please note this could have changed since I was hired, or the MDI-ers may be getting a different set of rules regarding this, but barring those two things:

You're expected to work an 8-hour day with one weekend day. I was allowed to choose the shift I would work (say 9a to 5p) when first hired, but after you choose you have to stick to that schedule. I believe you are allowed to choose a split shift (say 4a to 8a and then 4p to 8p, etc), but once you give them the schedule you've chosen, that's what you have to work.

To be fair, I do think they're somewhat flexible in terms of emergencies or things planned ahead of time - if you'd rather work 8a to 4p for a couple of days, for example, you won't get too much static from your TL if you inform them ahead of time.

However, you can NOT commit to a certain amount of lines per 24 hour period and do them anytime within that time frame, the old school IC way. You have to have a set schedule of hours and work those hours for the most part.
What are you talking about time clock?
I have worked for Transcend for 5 years since the MDI-FL merger and there is no time clock. Where did you guys get that idea?
It is paid for; just tell your STM if you forgot to clock in. nm
.
Also, do you clock out for every little thing, or do you find that now you're able to still get t
