Especially ESL MTs who used to be doctors in India who think they know it all and like to threaten lawsuits. Yah, that's the ticket.

I work there and at MDI-MD (until THIS revelation today, my MDI days are now DONE), and I'd NEVER say anything negative about TT. There's just nothing bad to say about them. I had actually taken an offer from TT when the MDI-MD work started to evaporate, and am I glad I did!
You and I know how great they are...we work there :-)
How do you guys make that much?
How many years exp do you have? I have a little less than one and am struggling with money. How long did it take you to start making that much money a year?

I have figured out a way to pay my bills with such **old, wornout** words.
Management is rocking alright, because their paychecks are not affected at all with the NO WORK/LOW WORK situation that has been going on now for MONTHS and MONTHS. That seems so unfair when without the MT's, the mgmt would have no paychecks!!!!!

If you are a good MT, I would recommend sticking with that. You will make less money doing editing there than straight typing, as they pay only 3.5 cpl, even though you're QA. I do not consider this a QA position, rather just a plain old Editor making 3.5 cpl. Plus, you will be editing mostly offshore work. I do both transcription and ASR for the company I currently work for and make 6.5 cpl for ASR and 8.5 to 9 cpl (incentive) transcribing. I used to work for All Type. The offshore work disgusted me, and I will never work for a company who offshores again. Indian MTs are only paid about 1.5 cpl. Then they pay the QA editor 3.5 cpl. Do the math. They're still making out pretty good while taking a job from some new MT fresh out of college whose reports would be a heck of a lot better than those. Also, I wasn't getting much more lines per hour than I do transcribing because you have to thoroughly review the offshore work word for word because there are so many errors. So not getting much more lph than transcribing and getting only 3.5 cpl...no thank you!

I think you are in denial, totally. Just like those who were brainwashed in days past to join in and blame the victim for being raped and on and on (still done in other countries).
She did not bring down the profession whatsoever. What is wrong with you. My goodness, what is wrong with your attitude. It was those addicted yes, addicted to money, they want more and more and companies who profess to be supportive of the MTs and are not, they are for the business, they push the voice recognition, teach to manipulate line count, don't count this, that and this, send it out to other countries etc.
So it is the CEOs, management staff, software companies, AAMT, alias, let's see, what is it now after there 1.5 million settlement who taught MQ how to manipulate the lines. It is those people who want more and more money.
It is no different than domestic abuse, isolate, convince the MT they are worthless etc etc. and just keeping cutting rates where one can actually make more LITERALLY at Jack-in-the-Box.

some other kind of work you can or want to do? honestly people, money is not everything and if you are working 2 or 3 jobs to make ends meet you are killing yourself for nothing but paying the bills.

Yeah, air conditioner went belly up and the cheap ones are sold out. I would not be working in this if I were not so dedicated to paying my bills, LOL. Know what you mean about being sleepy because cannot sleep in this heat.
I have always had animals in my life (the kids always had to have their own pets and so used to be a full house) and cannot imagine living without a dog and cat around the house and at least one stray or unwanted pet to find a home for (right now a turtle found wandering the streets by a neighbor!).

I am miserable there and hoping
to get out. I have never made such a low LPH. I was not aware that not being paid for spaces would hurt my production so much, but it has made a big difference. I do like their platform and it was easy to learn, but I still have bills to pay. I used to make 200 to 300 LPH with other companies, make 150 or so with this company. Also they have a program where you can look up previous reports on the same patient or examples of report types or by the same doc, but it always, freezes or goes so slow and I am stuck in my screen. I have heard from some others having this problem. It really slows me down. I am leaving as soon as I can.

If a person doing VR is miserable, then they need
to check around, find out people who are happy with VR as it looks like most are going that way regardless and then make a choice. No sense in being miserable trying to work with a system. Again, life is just too short for misery.

Understand your feelings, but why do you come here? Not everyone on here is miserable. Do they not have the right to post also. You do not have to respond to them, you know.
It is very informative to see which companies have work, which do not, and for how long. Pay, incentives, and bonuses are also very informative. Who gets them and who doesn't.

I find the people in western PA (Pitts area) are just so nice (just my opinion folks, no flaming necessary *grin*), whether it be shoppers, employees in the shops and/or restaurants...and especially on the road - I have spent so much time there and nobody seems to be into road rage (thank goodness!) - but my godson lives on the east side of PA and loves it....as does a good friend near Philly airport area (Jersey side but 10 minutes from Philly airport) in Collingswood, NJ.

She got Oprah to buy her line, so now she's famous, whether any of her advice works in the real world or not. She certainly doesn't work in the real world anymore. Yes, you can value yourself and your skills highly, but if nobody is paying 20 cpl plus benefits for transcription, then you're not going to get it no matter what you think of yourself. You can keep banging your head against that wall, you can accept the going rate or you can do something else - like write an advice guide for medical transcriptionists. If Dr. Oz brings it to Oprah, you've got it made whether any of it works or not.

I think you should at least try to change STMs if you are miserable.
Mine is awesome. Super flexible and super helpful in everything. She gives us the option to flex if we want or take PTO (obviously we could use unpaid if we need) if we would rather. This last week when work was low and a holiday, she told us we should submit PTO request ahead of time and then if we needed we could unrequest some if we were able to make up some hours.
Maybe you could get with a new STM once the new accounts come in? Maybe ask to switch accounts?
New accounts - I doubt if we will ever run out of work again in our lives!!! Yes can have a backup

We treat the immigrant workers and the overseas workers better than we treat our own ... it's the American way, of late, anyway.

The work is received FROM the Indian office and sent TO the Indian office. They used to hire only American MTs, but then started outsourcing to a company in India (big surprise).
I understand what you are saying, though. And if they are honest about it, then it is the choice of the MT as to whether he/she wants to work there. The fact that they blatantly misled in their ad angered me, but then again, I have been an MT long enough, nothing should surprise me. I guess I have done my part, and I have no particular axe to grind so I should just leave this alone now. I just was shocked when I saw the ad.

You are correct. The state that rules is the state the employee lives in.
My state laws has is spelled out in their Code. If another state does not withhold, they are fined heavily and if they don't withhold for years, their fines are pretty bad. I worked for a Florida co that did not withhold income tax for my state even after I brought it to their attention in the state code. They kept saying that they would eventually and never did. After two plus years and when I left, I made it known to my state all the conversations, the state refunded me all late fees they charged me and then said they were going after the company in Florida because they had many employees in our state. They deserved it. They knew better.

I'm glad you're here, I find that guys can sometimes tend to be a little less emotional and more objective than girls (please no flames, just MHO!). And specialties...I love path, too, but have only ever been able to do it in-house. I've been doing Onc for many, many years and love it absolutely, but it's not that easy to find at-home. I have a fabulous account now, but I work for the apparently doomed MQ, so now what? RadGuy, was it only money that motivated your stay? Do you think your account will stay with MQ? PathGuy, have you thought about tapping into more vet stuff? Will they pay better or the same?

I took my time and used my reference materials that I have and thought I did pretty well. Guess not. There were a few questions I did not know the answer to so I guessed, but would never do that on a report. It was very disappointing.
I wish I knew what questions I got wrong. Almost like QA'ing the test would have been helpful to learn from that.
I will keep trying because I am still looking for job. Not happy where I am right now.

Well, I think I am still in shock, but the panic has been hitting hard today. I just found out this morning that one of my kids looks like he will be facing surgery on both of his eyes in July! Great timing, huh! I am just worn out! Last week took its toll both physically and emotionally.

I would start looking. I know you reach a comfort level where you are, but TRUST ME, there are reputable companies out there (I work for one) and believe me, you are better off leaving now, before things crash down on you just when you start feeling comfortable again. Good MT's can still find work in this country, and they are paid in dollars, not rupees.

As good as it feels tho to be able to feel hopeful about the future, I guess the pessimist in me wont feel truly elated until I've started my new job and quit my old one. But hell I'm happy regardless LOL It's just such a huge load off my worried mind !

I am sick and tired of taking these so-called top notch transcription tests with the most difficult grammar questions, BOS-style like questions, abbreviations, what is a plural,etc, and only having an hour to complete the test. I just recently jumped through hoops for a compnay I shall not name. The VP told me I had exactly one hour to complete the all most impossible task. Well, I passed her fricking test. Then, she told me to gear up I had exactly until the end of the day to complete her 4 wave files. I completed them. After all this, she had the nerve to offer me a full-time IC position at 7 cpl. The wave files I heard require more than 7 cpl and why on god's green earth would I take an IC job doing acute care for 7cpl, I would be losing money. Then, she had the nerve to set a schedule for me Monday-Friday starting from 9 am to 5 pm. No thank you. I will keep right on looking. I do not need this stress. I am going in-house. I simply outdone.

Wow! You guys, I'm so sorry! To have to go through this after...
all the drama you had to deal with at Focus. I had a bad feeling things were going south at JLG right before I quit back in July. I can't believe they didn't even offer you MT positions! Well, my opinion is they are going under and they probably didn't have anything to offer you. When I quit, I sent out an resignation email and never got a response. So I just quit working and started my new job earlier and nobody said a word. I thought that was a bad sign.
I was having trouble getting my pay checks when I quit and then right after I quit they sent out the email about not using direct deposit anymore and then I kept reading about all these poor people who were late getting their checks. It just didn't look, sound or smell good at all.
Man, it just goes to show you there isn't a reliable company out there anymore. Used to be when I first started working from home JLG was one of the most reliable companies around with a good reputation.

Hey, lighten up!
In the old days -- 20 or so years ago, or maybe as recently as 10 years ago -- those terms were possessive with the apostrophe and the s. It wasn't until recently that the definitive references like Stedman's (or should that be Stedman?) decided to drop it. If you read medical literature, you will see that in most instances the apostrophe s is still used. So it has changed, and a lot of oldtimers (and M.D.s too) still put the apostrophe s at the end.
I prefer the apostrophe s as most docs dictate it that way and that was the way that I was trained to do it many, many moons ago.
Hey - You guys that are IC's
Forgive my total ignorance, but why do you guys choose to be IC's? I have been an MT for very many years, but all I really know about IC it is that you have to pay your own taxes and you do not receive benefit. I am not currently using my medical benefits (hubby's), but are there other perks? Do you make more $$. More flexible scheduling? Do you just like to have your own clients, and more than 1 or 2? I would think having your own client would be more profitable than to do IC work for a company, cutting out the middle profit. I see so many IC positions now but I thought that was to the company's benefit.

lots of companies operate this way - they just tell their workers about it. It's nothing new or earth shaking. Get a grip.
