If company is in state that has no state taxes
they are not required to take out state taxes. It's enough to keep up with your own state tax law code, could you imagine having to stay abreast of 49 other state tax codes? The cost would be huge and ultimately passed on to us by lower line rates. Regardless of who owes the tax, someone has to pay it. Just a matter of convenience I guess.
What state are they in? Is their ad on another board? nm

Nobody on this board works. They don't have time.

Contact Labor Board in Employer's State
I believe it can also be handled by e mail. However, by the time they get around to helping you, the lines you speak of should be on your NEXT paycheck and they will say there is no harm done. The company may have a valid point if the lines are not counted until they clear QA (???) but I would definitely make sure they are on the next paycheck.
Go to your State Labor Board & for a few bucks, file a complaint.

MedQuisters, topics from the Company board are being moved to the MedQuist board. MQ posts on
the first page of the Company board will be removed to open up space for other companies to post. Enjoy the new Medquist board set up for you.

Not same company, but works with
other smaller companies who are partners, which is what TTD is, doing overflow work on various accounts for SGS. I wouldn't work for anyone who helps in any way such an outrageously vile company like SGS.
The way it works with my company....
is the work is routed that MORNING so, if Suzy-Q is sick then they may ask if everyone would be willing to do an extra 100 lines or so to make up for her work. It's not a problem at all.
Know someone who works for this company and...
They are none too happy with the work that they get. In fact, there are times that she dose not have any work. Not happy about this at all. Sad, actually.
I am not an IC, but my company is in a state that
doesn't have state tax and therefore they don't pay any state tax. I just have extra $$ taken out of DH check to cover me. The first year I underestimated and got a penalty of about $55 for underpaying, but after that I've gotten a little back, so we finally found the balance.
what state is this company in?
nm
Can you state the company.....sm
It would help others maybe avoid this person/company?
Can you tell me the state this other company in?

My hubby works for a company who is
self-insured and our premiums for family coverage are only $200/month with a $500 deductible. It's great - when hubby had to have bypass surgery last fall they paid the entire bill with the exception of less than $2000.
Unfortunatley MQ isn't the only company that works that way.
I worked for another large national (I would name them, but every time I do, my post gets deleted) and had the same issues. That is what finally made me move away from acute care. I was tired of being tied to the computer all day and night logging in and out to see if there was work. I would still end up having to use PTO to get in my required hours. I never did accrue any PTO because I was out of work every Sunday and Monday without fail. I would get emails weekly that I wasn't meeting my line counts. How could I meet line counts if there was no work? I got tired of being badgered for things out of my control and quit. So much happier since I did.
Look it up in the state the company is located. sm
You should be able to download a form or they'll send you one.
Yes it is, but they didn't state the name of the company
.
What company is this? Or at least tell us the state in which it is located, please.
can you tell us which state or company? Are you an employee or IC? sm
I know that a certain company in NY was investigated a few years back because of treating ICs like employees.
I hope it is not the company I work for as I am finally happy after being miserable for the last 3 years and 50 jobs.
Need a company with dialup and that works in Word nm

Need a company with dialup and that works in Word
You might want to try FutureNet. The downloading and uploading is slow depending on the size of the account, but I had to use an air card for a bit, and that worked fine. Also do a search on MtJobs for example because there are a few other companies that allow dialup and if they use an FTP site, that should work as well although a bit slow.
It doesn't matter one whip which company she works/ed for...sm
It's all about experience and a POSITIVE ATTITUDE, which seems sorely lacking - evidenced by the ongoing bashes on this subject.
On top of that, one company is NOT a good fit for all - therefore, you may have to try and try again before you can find the right fit.
She is totally correct about years of experience. You don't start out riding a bike on the first day, and the same is totally true about MT-ing or any other career. So, buckle down, start learning and use every tool that is at hand for futuristic possibilities of better money.
But if you choose to go to work for TT, please refrain from returning here and complaining that you're not making the same kind of money. The dollar-making ability differs from MT to MT. Some of us have and some of us don't.
If your company is never out of work or always back-logged, can you state the name? Thx. nm
,
I'm like to know the answer to her post also. I have worked for an MT company in NY state,
and while I lived in another state at that time, I received full benefits; Ic or employee status had no bearing on receiving benefits. If I were the original poster, I would check this company out very thoroughly. Something just doesn't sound right tax-wise.
Acutally it's the Mass. Sten-Tel. Hmm...same state as your company. In cahoots, maybe? nm

I work for a company in Florida too who gladly pays state taxes because
they know it is the law.
Unless something has changed, health insurance rates vary state by state, so we may not have the
info you need. I'm an IC so I don't have benefits.
There is no best company. Only the company that works for you. sm
I work for a company who gets reamed here regularly. BUT, they work well for me except pay wise. There is no best. Yes, there is a worst.. the ones that don't pay. Truly have to make your own decision sometimes. I did.
You are correct. The state that rules is the state the employee lives in.
My state laws has is spelled out in their Code. If another state does not withhold, they are fined heavily and if they don't withhold for years, their fines are pretty bad. I worked for a Florida co that did not withhold income tax for my state even after I brought it to their attention in the state code. They kept saying that they would eventually and never did. After two plus years and when I left, I made it known to my state all the conversations, the state refunded me all late fees they charged me and then said they were going after the company in Florida because they had many employees in our state. They deserved it. They knew better.
The state you live in or the state where the MTSO is located? nm
nm
Not state by state, federal labor law - sm
and you don't have to be asked. If you work it, asked or not, they have to pay time and a half OT rate for hours worked over 40 in a week.
Taken right from U.S. Dept of Labor -
An employer who requires or PERMITS an employee to work overtime is generally required to pay the employee premium pay for such overtime work. Employees covered by the Fair Labor Standards Act (FLSA)MUST receive overtime pay for hours worked in excess of 40 in a workweek of at least one and one-half times their regular rates of pay. The FLSA does not require overtime pay for work on Saturdays, Sundays, holidays, or regular days of rest.
Extra pay for working weekends or nights is a matter of agreement between the employer and the employee (or the employee's representative). The FLSA does not require extra pay for weekend or night work or double time pay.
Different state to state. You would be surprised to find
IC can be defined differently state to state. Even the IRS cannot come up with a definitive set of rules. You would be surprised how many ICs actually get unemployment in some states. If the unemployment claim form asks specifically if you are an independent contractor, do not lie, but if it does not, do not volunteer it. Let the company prove you are a true IC according to the rules of your state. All you lose is a few minutes filling out the claim form. I would only do it as a last resort. If you can find work fast, by all means go for it, but the way things are now with all the VR and off-shoring, it is a backup if you cannot find work. No one should go hungry because they are afraid to file for Unemployment as an IC.

Isn't this what the company board
The company board allows you to ask questions. I just can't see recruiters having the time to frequent this board and answer questions. Why not just contact the recruiter with questions. You'll get a right from the horse's mouth answer as opposed to people scorn. Everyone is different in their opinion. I've seen people that love Meditech or hate it. I've seen people that love Emdat and others that think it steals lines. So, I'm not so sure an additional board with the expectation that job recruiters will frequent this site all day and night and provide answers (also not knowing if it really is a recruiter) will enhance this site. It is what it is. If you want to ask about a company, the ask away on the company board, that's what it's for. Of course, this is all JMHO.
BTW: This is on company board because at first
I was going to name the companies, but then decided not to for fear of losing jobs altogether. You know, word gets around, and this MT needs as many jobs as possible right now. So thanks for understanding about not putting on main board, this was meant to be put on company board. Tx
Try the Company Board
