You mentioned several reasons oldies worth more.
The oldie transcription is going to need little hand-holding to get going. QA utilization is minimized for the experienced transcriptionist. In addition, the breadth of knowledge that an experienced Transcriptionist has means she can be 'plunked' into any specialty and usually do well. It also stands to reason that the older, faster MT is going to make more for the company. It increases the amount of work the MTSO can commit to.
And, while spellings have not changed, sometimes to do this job well you have to know a little more than just the spelling to use the correct word, and a scroll down the Word Help board shows that the newbies don't know their stuff yet.
And frankly I don't believe for a minute that a newbie, who can't hear half the stuff they're hearing in American English, is really going to be able to plow through an ESL with even that level of competence.
There may be the rare gem of a newbie who has the background and drive to be as good as an oldie; if so, their skill will be recognized and they will soon be making what the oldie makes. Until then, there is no way that a newbie is worth as much as an oldie.
I worked for Rider. What P'd me off was..
there was absolutely no mention that I would actually be working for Focus and that it was owned and operated by a company from India.
Thanks for the info on these other companies - I would never work for one of them.
As for other MT's, stop supporting these companies that offshore!! Don't you realize you are cutting your own throat?!
Rider & Assoc.
I sent a resume to Rider & Assoc. about two months ago, they did contact me but were taking on some new accounts before hiring anyone just yet. If you have any info about this company, please let me know. Are they a good company? Thanks amj
Fellow IP train rider here. For why pay was off,
I worked there and had personal friendships with a couple of the acct managers and team leads. We were not getting paid for spaces. That is what I was told by middle management.

Anything on RCR Associates? sm
They contacted me about a month ago. They mostly handle radiology using the Meditech system. At the time, I had just started PT with a small company but I would really like to get into radiology as 1/3 of the work I do now is radiology in Meditech and I like the pace. Does anyone out there work for them? Can you give me some info, rate of pay, pay on time, etc.
Also, what about Keystrokes radiology? They have an ad for many rad positions. Does anyone know their rate of pay? I would really like to know if it is worth the trouble to go through all the testing and interviews.

I just noticed that the company I work for has a posting on the job board. I wanted to let anyone interested that this is a great company. The best I have every worked for. The docs are great and really care about us (we all just got a 10% raise this year). Anyone interested in an employer that REALLY CARES I highly encourage you to apply. After training I'm sure you can work at home. Our companywide empoyee meetings are held at the Radisson or Hilton and are dinners. We have a profit sharing plan. Please any productive team players apply for this job, you will not be sorry.

Medical Transcription Associates
I just received an offer to work for MTA (Medical Transcription Associates), a small transcription company from Northern Virginia, as an independent contractor. Does anyone know anything about them? The president of the company has been in contact with me numerous times and seems very nice and like a good person to work for, but I need to know if anyone out there is currently working for them or has had an interaction with them, either negative or positive. Please let me know. I already got screwed over by ATSI and I don't want to get screwed again!

BEWARE OF TRANS AM ASSOCIATES/MT PROFESSIONALS
Ok everyone if you ever get any emails or communication from a company that is same as the car trans am and associates also their software works with MT Professionals DO NOT I REPEAT DO NOT EVEN BOTHER!!!!! They are the biggest fraud and rip off company on the internet. They are based in Valrico, Florida.
They will say you can learn free etc etc and they claim to be Christian based etc. They are so rip off. You have to buy the software first which is over $500. total. You do practice files they say everyone has to whether your an entry level or a pro at transcription. Then you finish and if you finish before their two week minimum requirement you have to wait to download the next group sometimes a week or more. Then after you do 4 groups you test and you may pass the test but they will say you have errors whether they are formatting, spacing, spelling, punctuation, etc. It is a gip cause you actually probably don't have those errors. Plus, they are not consistent at all regarding punctuation.
So PLEASE PLEASE DO NOT HAVE CONTACT IF YOU GET COMMUNICATION DELETE IT OR REPORT THEM!! THEY TAKE YOUR MONEY AND RUN.
It is a situation where most of us are trusting enough to think it is an innocent ploy that they will help us learn if we are not as experienced. They never have you practice on any other specialty except for rheumatology and your practice files are only clinic notes and when you test it is a consultation.
Transam associates - Bizarre incidence
I received an offer from Transam associates and tested with their sample dictation (I thought it was weird because I could not use my foot pedal but write what I heard on paper and type it down). Before realizing my mistake, I accidentally pasted my confidentiality email footer and sent it. My clipboard messed up and I pasted the wrong thing (scatterbrained I know). A few minutes later I receive an email that I did great on the test and it was a true representation of my work. What in the world? Is this just an automated response to everyone. Are they a scam?
MQ newbies
Sorry, dear, no matter what you say, you lack experience. Therefore you may have been good in school, but how do you rate in the real world?
Newbies
I'm currently teaching a MT class at a local community college and was wondering what companies hire newbies. Thanks.
Hey, Newbies at TT...
I got a call from TT yesterday. Was working and will call back today. Just wanted to touch base with some of yall to see how you all are doing and if you felt your decision was a good one.
Take care, will keep you posted.

OSi is for newbies
OSi has a mentor program for newbies because that is basically what their company is made up of. Unless you wanted to be spied on with their very own instant message program - where they will call you if they don't see you on line - and also they record Keystrokes and treat you like you are 2 years old, you don't want to work for OSi. They also call you on your days off to work but you aren't allowed to claim it on your time sheet. In other words they want you to work OT but not record your hours to do so. Also a very demeaning QA department. QA is very inconsistent because QA consists of newbies itself and half the time their edits are wrong. You will get emails from QA audits with stupid graphics with (good job) and stuff for toddlers and all of this coming from newbie MTs who happened to end up in QA dept. Mature people would not put junk like that in a business email or any email for that matter. Very poorly run company who recently partnered with a company with multiple offshore interests. OSi already offshored the easy work and with the new partner it is likely to offshore even more. Bad news unless you are just starting out MT'ing. Also they have just stopped paying any extra cents per line on holidays unless you meet almost impossible requirements. That was the last straw for me. I could not make it to even 1 year with OSi and because I saw the light I can actually spend the holidays with my family now because I got out in time. Never have I seen a company run in such a horrible manner as OSi. They offer a ridiculous sign on bonus because most people don't last long enough to even receive it. Go elsewhere, almost anyplace is better.
M-TEC Newbies On the Way?
So what will happen when they guarantee those people coming out of M-Tec a job at lower rates?
newbies and QA....sm
You have to differ between work done by US newbies and Indian newbies. If the QAing of the work your newbies are producing and you have to QA is so bad, I am sure that you are QAing work that has been done by offshored MTs.
Any advice for newbies?
I've checked the job bank and everyone wants experience. Will anyone hire students? I'm finishing up an 18-month course with M-TEC. I've been sending resumes regardless of experience required.
hiring newbies
Hello,
I just read your post and I do not agree with you. I am a newbie who was hired by MQ to do the big hospitals and I am good. I just quit MQ because the QA was lousy and I had to jump from account to account. Then, on many ocassions I had no work available when I logged onto my shift. I respect your experience, but I know my quality is good because I graduated from the TOP school in the industry that demands it. Please don't lump all newbies together and do not blame it on JUST newbies. Thank goodness I took my NEW self and sloppy QA some where else.
Who hires newbies?
work at home only.
Hiring newbies?
Are there any companies out there that hire newbies? Looking for an acquaintance.
Some newbies have to accept 6 cpl unfortunately - any sm
other experiences with Shapin? Thanx.
Hires newbies
Allegiant and Sound Medical Transcription. Both are very nice owners/companies to work for/with. Good luck!
OSi is geared for newbies
It overall is especially good for newbies and has excellent mentor program. There is a massive amount of turnover with this company as those with a lot of experience don't tend to stick around, however it is probably the best bet for someone starting out. They can gain some good experience and training and then move on to a better company with better management, etc.
keystrokes newbies
please tell us how it is going so far
Not all newbies are that ignorant!
Those that have come from reputable schools have the reference books they need when they start out and know how to use them. When I was a newbie a couple years ago fresh out of M-TEC, I was off QA within a month. I have never received a QA score lower than a 98%. That's because I know how to use my references, take the time to do it, and leave a blank rather than guess. Not all newbies are naive enough to think the internet is reliable or are too cheap to invest in a good reference library.
