Because I used to think so, too.  Then I went to work for a real company that didn't play political favorites, didn't hire relatives that gave each other the best charts, that didn't blatantly skim off the line count.  They're really not all that, and they're are a lot better choices out there. 

Oh yeah, it's nice working for a company with a real QA department instead of the bunch of fools that call themselves OSi QA department.

Hello! I hope I've got this on the right board (if not, please e-mail and advise me of where it would be better posted). I've just accepted a position as an Independent Contractor, and I would like some input on what this really entails as far as deducting taxes and social security. How do you determine what amount to take out, when/how do you pay those taxes? If I was eligible for a tax refund as an employee, will I be eligible for a tax refund as an IC? Any help would be greatly appreciated!

I was offered a position at Peachtree today.  Does anyone have any info on this company?  Easy to work with or not, pay on time, easy platform, flexible with appointments, etc?  Thanks for any and all information, as I couldn't find much in the old posts.  Thanks!

has anyone else read this about MQ--when you look them up on the stock market, because of all their legal issues and problems with the SEC, they have to disclose everything--i don't know if i read this right but:

for the six months ending june 30, 2005

revenue

revenue was down due to the loss of clients and new clients coming in at a lower rate

operating income

loss of 8 million,  16 million in billing investigation and associated litigation, 3 million for separation and replacement of company management team

and you wonder why we are not getting raises or bonus---the money that they have spent on the lawsuits is amazing and golden hand shakes with former employes

it did say that they were saving revenue by consolidating offices and reducing staff, maybe this is where our raises will be coming from

boy, i wish i was their lawyers!!!!!!!!!!!!!

Heard from a friend that company deducts a quarter or something like that from each report for the header or template or something?  Anyone know anything about that?  Is it for all their accounts?  Got me inquisitive....Thanks......

I was thinking of applying to this company and saw where you only worked a month.  What made you quit?  Trust me, I'm not going to tell anyone; I'm not that type of person even if you don't know me. 

But I really don't like the company I'm working for as I still can't get 1000 lines a day and don't think I'll ever be able to as you spend half your time looking up names of doctors, usually foreign doctors, that the dictator wants to send a cc to.  They want five or six cc's sent, and you HAVE to make sure you get the right doctor, etc.  But it is VERY time consuming even though I have a hard copy also as a lot of the times, I cannot even understand the name they are dictating to send a cc to.

So I am in the looking mode again.  Plus I wasn't able to use Smartype which I love, and their word Expander has NO words in it.  You have to start from scratch, so it's going to take me forever to build up a list of word expanders.  This issue is ALSO time consuming. It just seems like I saw something the other day about WebMedx and thought it sounded like a good company, but I'm sure there is a but with it ........there's always something about a company I don't like.  Wish I could find the perfect company.

If someone is working as an IC, how can they be required to do X number of lines or work X number of hours when they're not getting any benefits, using their own equipment and/or paying their own phone bill?    I think I know the answer but just wanted another opinion. 

Most important to me would be line rate, flexibility in schedule (window), benefits, quickest platform and work volume.
