And the team leaders learned the same tricks

from them. Learned fast not to believe them or trust them, either - they all learned how to talk out of both sides of their mouths.

Team Leaders
And all the GOOD team leaders who really communicated well and cared about the rest of us left! HMMM wonder why?
Team Leaders
I have to agree completely. The only really good team leader that MDI had was Shannon. She was always available, was always there to help, and actually cared about each individual person there. If you had a problem, she was there to take care of it or she would find someone who could. I guess she finally got fed up with MDI too because she left, which is a shame because she was the only one there that actually had a heart! We miss you Shannon!!
MDI-FL-team leaders?
Trying 2 learn about these team leaders. Anybody know anything?
MDI-FL-TEAM LEADERS
I work for MDI and I love my team leader. I have actually more than one team leader, if I switch to my secondary account. They are both very helpful in providing me with anything I need, and I also notice they are available to me at any time for help. Don't know about redheads, blondes or brunettes, as I have not meant them, but I can ask what color their hair is, although not sure how that would help anything. Anyway, I think they are the geatest - a lot more help than I have ever gotten anywhere! I'm thrilled!
MDI team leaders
Marianne, I agree with you. I have never been happier at any company I have worked for, as far as the help I receive and the flexibility in my scheduling.
Another happy MDI-ER!!!
MDI team leaders
I just want to tell anyone who will listen, this is the most structured environment I have worked in for a while. I too did not know what to expect, having worked at other places. This team leader thing sure was a great idea. You have one person to deal with who is always available to you for anything you need. You don't have to worry about who to go to, and if you do, your team leader guides you in the right direction. I am so glad I made the move to MDI - finally a company who cares!!
MDI team leaders R GREAT
I've been with MDI for about 2 yrs and before they had team leaders it was hard to get any info or help when it was needed or find out other accounts I could work on but now I get quick answers. My team leader has helped solve a lot of problems. I don't know all of them of course but the ones I've had are quick to help and not afraid to do what needs to be done. They make my worklife easier and I get more work done because of it because I don't have to wait for one of the big bosses to get around to little me. I don't know if this is what you wanted but that's what I know.
Supervisors and team leaders are the same thing
What are you talking about? That is a matter of semantics.
That's like saying I am not a secretary... I am an administrative assistant.
Which company has the best management/team leaders
Can you give your experience of which companies have the best people in place for their team leader/supervisors, and what you liked about that person/company? In other words, what set them apart from other places you've worked. Thanks!
I work for company that has team leaders and
they are the worst cherrypickers of the bunch, biggest whiners of all, and they get away with it because they tell the boss daily how wonderful she is.
Overstaffed and poor team leaders and communication.

Open message to team leaders/supervisors: sm
When there is ZERO WORK available for us, and it is less than a month before Christmas and our paychecks are hundreds of dollars lower than they used to be, please don't email your team to tell us there's no work and then close it with HAPPY HUMP DAY!
YOU may be paid on salary and don't notice the slump, but it's KILLING us! Happy Hump Day is completely inappropriate!

Too bad they got rid of Indian team leads. My US team lead is the worst.
There are a few tricks.
1. Type the report all the way through and leave blanks as needed.
2. Relisten to the blanks and you'll catch a few of them after having listened to the whole report.
3. Copy and paste the report into your Expander or into Notepad and save it as a file with the doctor's name and report type as the file name.
4. Next time you get that dictator and type of report, expand the report and edit as you listen. You'll always pick up more of what he is saying. After a few dictations, you'll have a complete, or almost complete, copy to use over and over.
opppss meant purple team, not red team.
Sorry, I meant the purple team.
Dirty tricks
If they tell MTs that an account is going away and that the MTs need to find other jobs, that's the equivalent of a lay off, at which time the employee would be entitled to unemployment benefits. However, if there is no work and the employee does not show up, the company can claim that the employee was fired due to a no show. With this scenario, the employee might not be able to collect unemployment. Employees need to show up, count all hours worked whether actual jobs were available or not, and report all of those hours on the new timesaver website.
If you receive any complaints about reporting all hours worked on the timesaver website, keep the documentation, like emails, etc., and report this to DOL. Also worthy of reporting would be the fact that you are not receiving minimum wage from the company for all hours worked.
Then, file for partial unemployment benefits, especially if you were earning substantially more over the past several quarters. The partial unemployment benefits are calculated according to the average of what was earned in several previous quarters of work. Then, you receive the difference between what you are actually currently earning and your calculated weekly unemployment benefit. These benefits may be different in each state.
I learned about these steps after I left the company 2 months ago; wish I had known back then.
It's one of the tricks that companies play on us
so that they can control our productivity, penalize and pay less, despite getting their work done. The same thing happened to me a year ago, we were asked to follow dossier given by the client, but then a few QAs followed AAMT BOS, etc. Nevertheless, we were penalized left and right and eventually when we stood up and reported their actions, then it stopped completely.
Any tricks on making your hours when there's no work? sm
If so, please share. Feel free to share tips on making your BILLS, too, when there's no income.
Seriously, do you work off hours to make up the difference?
thanks much.
Sadly, its one of the oldest tricks in this business.
Always has happened to me, whatever mode of delivery for the work. In the days of tapes, I would get double or triple what I requested. Now its the same thing, thus why I don't take any jobs on the side now. I would always, always ask for a minimum amount of work, which the owner gladly agreed to, only to be bombed. Then the whole guilt game would start...Not for me anymore! Its so counterproductive in the long run - makes us resentful, right? Why not just give the MTs what they agreed to, right? Oh well!
Resume Tips & Tricks for Seasoned MTs!!!
We should all add these qualities to our resumes. It's what they expect anymore anyway:
- An outstanding ability to take muddy, garbled jibber-jabber and severely fractured English in 155,000 dilects and turn it into unbelievably beautiful transcription, with no blanks!
- Oh, and don't worry, Mexican, Cuban, Chinese, Japanese, Arabic, Indian, or even rabid auctioneer doctors who speak so fast they could not understand them self on a play back . . . no problemo! It doesn't matter, because I am so good if it sounds remotely close with even one syllable barely audible or intelligible I will struggle until I get it. I do this eagerly because I know you are selling me pride in my work, not a decent wage and because I dread your miserable QA autopsy of my work.
- Will work as hard as a slave for $3 an hour average with a college degree on the most gut-wrenching work you have, and all this without an occasional can of salve for the whip marks on my back.
- Will also fill in hundreds of entries for free on patient information, courtesy copies and researching things like how to spell Waccamaw even if I don't live in South Carolina. Things doctors could spell, or dictate clearly but won't because they are too lazy.
- I will also run those dates of service through my magic crystal ball formula to know when the doctor says The patient was seen today, I should look back on the ADT screen and see when he dictated it to know what he means by when it was dictated. I will do it because you will bonk me on the head and tell me, It's your job to do this for free!
While I am at it, I will run a medical quality assessment through my head to see if it sounds logical and reasonable for all medical sciences and diagnoses. I will happily verify those medication dosages are correctly dictated because even if the doctor has been to medical school and I haven't . . . I should identify that 325 mg of Coreg will kill someone and correct it! Again because, It's my job, to run around behind doctors and wipe their butt for free!!! I'm happy to do that, even if I haven't had the benefit of medical school because . . . . yes, I'm that good baby!!
- And at the end of two or three years of struggling to make a wage above the poverty level learning all this garbage, if you find some foreigner will do my job cheaper to make you more money, don't sweat it! Just fire me . . . in a conference call with 101 of my coworkers in mass humiliation. No problem!
Silly wabbit, tricks are for kids!
Really, you haven't been in the MT world long, right? No problem! We all have to start sometimes. Better you get over your naiveity (sp?) sooner than later.
I learned something...sm
I doubt that had anything to do with why I didn't get the job but I had no idea it was shoo-in instead of shoe-in. I had to go look it up and read the story behind the phrase. Thanks!
Learned this way sm
I used to work part-time for a service in my former life. When I came in at 9:00 AM the 8:00 AM shift had already taken all the jobs and left the worst of the worst for me. Through much blood, sweat and tears, I became used to these horrible accents one by one and later in life became one of the best in town and had a waiting list of clients. Whatever doesn't kill you makes you stronger. Let them be lazy, they'll never be good doing this, just getting by by the seat of their pants.
I finally learned
after three months of lies and late paychecks I quit. Great docs, but if you can't get your money, it doesn't really matter. Don't do it!
No, just an ex employee that learned
And, they won't can you because they need all the help they can get since they are set on lying, stealing, and cheating their current employees.
Sorry to hear that you have not moved on yet, you really need to before they ruin you as an MT.
Boy, I'll tell you what I learned with my .... sm
last few QA situations, and I hate it, boy do I hate it, but I found it's best to just keep it to yourself. It doesn't do any good to complain, just got me on their crap list. They nitpicked me so bad I finally quit. They showed me whose boss.
New job. Got a wierd QA. Just let it go. I don't want to get on anybody's list again! It'll pass. Let em go pick on somebody else. I know it shouldn't be this way, but seems like that's the truth in the way it is.
Hope this makes sense - pizza's here and I'm flying here! :)
I have learned over the years
that if the going payscale for 95% of businesses is X and there is one that pays Xx2 There is ALWAYS a reason. It does not make good business to pay twice the going rate unless you are trying to overcome some HUGE draw-back. Think some about it. Do you pay a babysitter $20 for an hour if you can get one for $8 -- unless you have baby gozdilla - THEN you pay $20 for an hour.
I learned today why/how they can say that...sm
Wherever a company's payroll division is based is where they can say their business is based. Hence, the MA office does their payroll/HR, so that is how they can say they're a US-based company, no matter where the rest of their work is done. Furthermore, yes, the people that I talk to, no matter where THEY themselves are sitting, are trained to say, Yes, WE are in Massachusetts because (loophole here) they say WE and are referencing the company. Most people (me) just assume they are talking about themselves specifically. I fell for it. My mom explained all this to me today, being a manager of a financial institution. :(
I've learned ...
... that the service always blames the ISP and the ISP always blames the service, and I even talked with Dictaphone directly who told me it's the ISP and what they have to do to fix it. I've learned that using a VPN connection causes problems, as well as the Linksys router and automatic fire walls. I've been 'round and 'round and 'round about this on both ends. I gave up and just told ANYone to fix it so it's usable. And they did. I THINK it was my ISP who insisted I get rid of the Linksys, they disabled a firewall and did some managing on their end. I get disconnected only occasionally -- not enough to get excited over.
Lesson learned!!!
Thanks
Lesson learned
The main thing I learned is that I won't be asking any more questions on this board, that's for sure.
Learned hard w/VS
I and many, many other seasoned MTs have learned a HARD lesson trying to work with VS. Very unethical. Not a good sign when the CEO uses vulgar language to curse MTs for something not done in-house at the Company's location - no where near the responsibility of the MT - The MT doesn't even have access to the servers in the Company office. Good luck to anyone who thinks they can handle it! A definite NO if I were asked should I apply by another MT. Apparently, this is the general consensus.
One thing I have learned is that
there are too many negative people on this board lately. They are so unhappy and try to make everyone else unhappy. Take everything with a grain of salt. It's unsettling to most, but then again, those that post nasty messages usually do so to rile everybody else up.
If you are talking about companies, posters do have the right to post if they feel they are wronged, but a lot of times others will rip you apart if you contradict their posts.
I was a part of this board since the 1990s and everyone used to be so nice. Not so great anymore. I usually read but do not post often for that very reason. Heck, it's gotten to the point where they try to correct your spelling if you don't do it first.
We learned to type in the same era
but other than that thing that used to happen on the old strike-arm typewriters where several keys would jam up together, I cannot remember hearing a difference in the sound of various keys. When the Selectric ''ball'' came out, that problem was resolved. You must have much better ears than I do!
I learned the hard way that when someone is so hateful like
this is because they are in the wrong and can't accept it and have to blame everyone and the brother for it. Sounds like OSi and she deserve each other.
One thing I learned from nationals is that sm
you never get the same response twice to the same question. Best thing to do is to ask each person the same darned questions, take names, and write down the responses and repeat them back. When you get an inconsistency, bring it up then in a very nice way. Many times a company's staff is scattered in different buildings, sometimes even in different states so they all have different information.
It's going to be a while before more companies get their programs tweaked to adjust to Vista, so it's best to get yourself a nice new or refurbished computer with XP on it. As you see from other posts, it's very possible. Maybe you can find one locally at a little tech shop.
Relax. This will eventually work itself out. You just have to go step by step. Never mind the people hassling you here. There are more of the helpful ones than the negative ones.
You will get through this. I agree, though, computer hassles are soooooo stressful!
Oops-correction, s/b learned!
Need more coffee!
Agreed. I have learned my lesson.
I've learned that when I hear:
'You won't notice any difference, except things will be even better' whether it's about a change in ownership, a switch to VR, top management change, etc., my resume should start circulating. Three times I have given a company the benefit of the doubt and adopted a 'wait and see' attitude. I've been assured that the new situation will be a worker's paradise, that they've got my back, are looking out for me, that I am the backbone of the company. I've waited, I've seen, and now I will no longer do this.
I had my longtime pt time job and learned 2 new pt jobs.
adf
Amen! I learned to just ignore all the naysayers on here..(nm)

I learned a lot about MTSO from her post..not a job for me every..I'm definitley a worker bee.
I agree. Have people not learned its always slow after a holiday?!
/
Whatever it is, I've learned that it'll generally keep until morning.
Plus if I've been jangled awake in the night by the phone, and am only half-conscious (and wholly p****d off), I'm not going to be of much use, anyway.
If it's bad news, I'd rather read it as an email while I'm having my coffee in the morning.
thanks, learned s'thing new today: I am jonesing for some money!..nm
nm
I am not afraid of VR, as I learned it many years ago on a very good platform, but they did not cut
my line rate, but instead paid me for my knowledge in the medical field. By the way, I made very good money back then, too. Cannot allow my skills to be sold at one-half my current line rate. I have more pride in myself and confidence in myself than to be paid that cut-rate by any MTSO out there.
I thinkt that Shorthand works in more platforms, learned from experience. sm
I also think that not all platforms are bad, and that discouraging a fellow MT from learning more and Expander her horizons is not right. We should all learn as much about our field as possible and keep open minds as far as new technology is concerned.
I'd watch for press releases from SPi, that's how I learned about Cymed's acquisition
xx
I've learned that it is exactly that - a store front. Or maybe just a front. nm
,
Do they have a US team? Or
should I start looking?? They have never mentioned anything about dropping the US team, but I would bet they would do it in a heartbeat - I guess that's why they are known as heartless.
