All of the replying post is true.

In Reply to: They're very strict with their lines sm - Not let go, but quit

Even if you do meet your line count by the 3rd pay period but don't meet it later because there is no work to transcribe, you still get the nasty grams and phone calls and told to work 24/7 to stay employed. The MTs who don't have this problem are given preference in order to help them make their line counts, thus reducing the work volume of everyone else.

They also just completely changed their insurance, reduccing benefits and raising the employee portion with only about a 10-day notice.

I don't know whose post you are replying to SM
because I was only on full QA for 2 days (which to me isn't long at all).  I am having a pretty good experience with them, sorry yours wasn't the same.  As far as the people at the company, if I have a question it gets answered pretty fast and I'm getting paid on time and getting enough work - that's all I require so I'm getting what I need.
No she's not. She's obviiously replying to a post by DB and bringing to top. nm

I mean the 3rd post below this is true.

Your post is so very true! sm
Unfortunately, in my 25+ years in this profession, I have never had a dream job. I have had my own local accounts and worked for several MTSOs over the years. We all receive our share of garbage dictators, as well as wonderful dictators. Currently, I have days where I receive nothing but terrible dictators who take me twice as long to type as my better accounts. On these days, I may make under 100 dollars. There are other days where I can make much more than that when I have fluent speaking dictators and easier accounts. I found over the years, both having MTs work for me, and working for MTSOs, a versatile MT who can take the good with the bad, is the most valuable MT. You not only benefit yourself with learning many doctors and specialties, but you also become valuable to the company, and likely to be kept long-term. I can remember working 12-14 hours per day 6 days per week for years. This dedication and perseverance not only helped me make money, but continually educated me while making me a valuable asset to the company. There is no way I could ever type this many hours now, as my hands, wrist, and neck will not permit it. For any of you who are unhappy with your company after knowing you have given your all, research other companies because most (I know not all) will appreciate a qualified, experienced, and hard working MT. Good luck to all in these trying times.
How was her post rude? True, she does
seem a little snotty, not wanting to start apparently at the bottom of the totem pole where newbies do, and not fully realizing that the workflow in this business waxes and wanes, but she was not rude. Just extremely inexperienced.

Guess I missed it.
Your post is so well written and so true...
I realized that saying something really will not make any difference and venting my frustration has made me feel better. I really can understand where you have been and know that everything happens for a reason and the way you handle each and every situation in life defines you as a person. I am going to stick it out for now, but have an offer from another company I am really contemplating, as I will be back doing my specialty of reports and maybe can finally get some decent lines again, as I really like to be able to eat out once in a while. ;oD
above post is very true regarding Bayscribe nm
nm
Sorry, meant for *not true* post (nm)

Yes, I was hesitating saying this in my post before, but this is true,
doctors use their handwritten chart notes and their notes.
Also in almost all 3rd world countries.
X-Press' website says they have over 400 MTs. Is this true? Your post sm
says a small group of co-workers. I am considering working for them but I am getting conflicting answers, which worries me.
Very nice post - all true statements! - nm

QTers - post previously true
Thank you to whoever had courage to post about QT losing their large account, for all I know their only account at this point.  I had for months heard rumors of the work going to outsourcing and now our latest check sure looks like an Indian had signed it.  So figured work would always be light and would have to supplement.  But thanks to kindness of a stranger posting where the account is going, I won't miss a beat with a paycheck and with an account I have worked on for a long time.   So if those of you were doubting whether it was true, it is true and I believe they are still hiring for more positions at the company that starts with W.  Good luck to everybody.  How could such a good company go down the pooper so fast?
This post is true. Pay attention people. nm

Good post, Amber. And true, too. All professions
restructuring.  But anyone with eyes can see that even though the MT profession has changed, there's still a TON of work out there.  You know, it behooves the employers out there to have doom and gloom run rampant and the MTs thinking that they can't do any better than 6-8 cpl.  Sometimes I wonder if they're the ones spreading most of the doom and gloom, and then some naive MTs are picking it up and shouting it too!
Post here in Jan. 2007 said they have mandatory overtime. Is this true?
s
GREAT post. So true. I've been in this business
for 30 years, and never ever had more than an hour or 2 with no work. Not acceptable and doesn't happen to me. I work my behind off, am fantastic at this, and not 1 employer has ever done that to me, and probably never will. Just like you said, if I hit no work, I call and straighten the situation out. Don't ask questions about the account, about what MT can or can't transcribe it, just state that no work is not gonna fly with me, and I am always treated with respect and instantly given work, which I also thank my bosses for. Give and take - it goes both ways. I'm there when they expect me, and I'm there when they need me, and we're all happy. Can you imagine some MTs getting ANGRY at you? Again, another scream or throw up reaction from me. Some of you MTs really need some psychoanalysis, if you know what that is...obviously your income is NOT a necessity, and this is probably a job for you and not a career. You get out of MTing what you give and what you expect, nothing more, nothing less. Expect to be treated like garbage, expect slave wages, expect no work, expect disrespect, and you'll get it, and it seems like many MTs are looking for this! Thus the continual postings asking about companies we all know STINK. There is no other explanation - you want to be kicked to the curb and probably put little effort into your life across the board. Such a shame.
On the contrary, I find your post refreshing and true. sm
I agree whole-heartedly that MTSOs AND MTs are in it for a paycheck. It's not personal. If you don't like your employer's treatment, find another company where their style is more to your liking.
Great post and very true! I read these today and was amazed that someone's first thought was pay
I agree that circumstances can make loans necessary but the OP sounded more like she uses these on a regular basis. No I'll have to learn to budget for the difference, just oh no, now I need to go to Payday Loans and pay 400% interest.

We have the potential to earn what we need to, although sometimes lately it is harder and harder.

Good for all of you. Wish I had seen these earlier.

p.s. Can someone call and tell my BIL to grow up too?
Moderator answered "Not True" which means she will not delete post with name and link (nm)

Thanks for replying
I thought I had seen something about low work after hiring a while back, but that seems okay now?  I think I had talked with someone back at the end of last year there but never went any further.  Are they IC status only?  How's the platform to work on? Do you have to load a bunch of stuff on your computer and do you need special pedal?  Thanks for your help!  I'm thinking about contacting them again to see what they have available.
Thank you mg for replying. sm
I am glad that it can remain IC status.  Would you be able to share whether or not you have to use a pedal they give you or if the USB wav pedal 5 is compatible with the way you would get their audio?  Or would you know if this depends on the account?  I am just curious to know if I could use what I already have as opposed to having to install another foot pedal.  Thanks again for your feedback regarding the IC status.    I greatly appreciate it.
Thanks you for replying.

Thanks for replying .... sm
Thanks,  I decided to not go with them and stay where I am at....
I see. Thanks for replying. NM

Are you replying to me?
I don't work part time; I work full time. I would love to make 200 lines an hour, but I can't. There are no templates that can be used for these letters, and I have to look up the doctors' addresses on the internet for the letters, which I don't get paid for.

I guess you're telling me I'm in danger of losing my job, then? Thanks for the warning!

By the way, how many lines an hour would be you be typing without any templates, as I am doing? Just curious.
Thanks for replying!
Thanks for letting me know.  I don't feel so alone now.  I wish I could afford to take a break.  So things slow down for hospital accounts on holidays also?  I was just wondering about that and if everyone says, hey, this is a holiday, I'm not going to be sick today.  I wish the holiday would soon be over.  Need the work if you know what I mean.
Thank you all for replying
You all give such good advice, which is why I like coming here. I've been working all night and I guess I just needed to vent. I really don't want to leave this company, so I will try and tuff it out. I think we've all been there with these types of situations. I've got work finally (probably cuz its the weekend, i'm not even scheduled to work) so I'm going to get back to it before it dries up again. Keep your fingers crossed for me :)

Thanks again for the comments and email.....
Replying to you
by e-mail.  I do not think you want to work for this company.
Replying to Looking Too
Isn't giving a 2-week notice rather silly when all you would do is sit in a chair with no work? What did you do?
thanks for replying - see message
I remember reading somewhere on here about being paid for 74 character lines.    Does anyone know how many characters per line, 9 characters per line adds up.
How disappointing! But thanks for replying. nm

Thanks for replying. Much appreciated.

Thanks for replying even tho u don't work there
Hopefully it won't be much longer and I can find out if I need an expansion program or not because I'm telling you ShortHand is looking pretty good right now, especially for that price.

Thanks so much for the info!
I just felt replying here was enough. I SM
really didn't care to receive an email saying basically the same things.  I know she doesn't actually have my email address.  I have posted hundreds of times on these boards and this is the first time anyone has done that.
Then stop replying
No one is forcing you to read the posts and respond.
Not Replying To Testers

It would also be nice if you replied to people who take your test, instead of just blowing them away and making them wonder if they passed.  Not very good business manners.  I had a phone call from you, then you sent the test, and I took lengthy time trying to perfect it, only to be ignored.  Even a you didn't pass reply would be better than 0.

Thanks for replying, guys...
At least you asked more more questions than I did. Maybe if I knew somebody in Jersey, ha-ha. I would not have minded driving to the next town if that was required; did that back in the day. Oh well. Maybe if I was 20 and up for an adventure, but guess I'm getting too old for this stuff.
BTW: I am the poster who you were replying above to.
Don't you know a single mom is someone who was married but now alone with a child?
I am replying about the over hire comment.

Thank you for replying...how long did you work for them?

Let me get this right...if you had typed the report, but it went to QA with a blank, then you didn't get paid for the entire report that you typed?  Is this the norm at most companies?  Doesn't seem fair to me.

Not the poster you're replying to, but she is RIGHT
VR is way worse than editing as it has been in the past. With editing in the past, you'd take a report transcribed by an MT, a REAL person who did their best with it, and edit that report. No prob.

With VR, you take a report finished by voice recognition, a MESS of a report, not done by a REAL MT who did their best! It's a pile of garbage, a big bag of jumble left for the Editor to sort through and fix ---- a bigger job, a worse job, and on top of THAT, they're paying us HALF of what we usually get paid, not taking into consideration any long-time work experience, skills, knowledge of the MTs.

If you don't understand any of this, then I just don't know about you....
They're not replying to email right now. Hmmm....nm
s
I was replying to packrat. I am not sure why it posted under yours. I did not say Hawaii because
who would ever leave Hawaii??? You have a beautiful place to live, and from what I have read, a healthier place to live.

Where would I be without my husband's income? Living in a smaller house, just fine. I married for love and we worked together to get to the point we are now without help from anyone.

I would never, ever criticize you or lecture you and am not talking down to anyone. Packrat just struck me wrong. So many MT's complain that they cannot make money because of a, b or c but never do anything about it. That's all. I did not mean to insult you in any way.

My ending is plenty happy, but it is hopefully 50 years away. I have a great husband, a warm roof over our head and enough food to feed my family and keep us in clothes with a little extra to vacation each year to that place you are lucky enough to call home!

I agree about wishing I had found transcription when my children were younger. I love what I do and am fortunate enough to be good at it and work for someone that has enough work to keep me busy.

If someone is struggling, I will be the first to lend a hand, but to rant and rave about how MOST women don't need to work is just plain BS.
Glad that's true for you for 8 years. Not true for many. I love the company, but I do run out of
as do many others. Wish I were as fortunate as you.
Not necessarily true. That is not a true test of skill.
Do you know how many people get others to take tests for them? It happens and it happens more often than you might think. The only skill that shows anyway is that you can do it.

We are actually more than a transcriptionist. We are specialists in our field and we are supposed to know some things regarding anatomy and physiology as a working base. That's how we can judge if a physician dictates something in accurately and many do because they can't pronounce or just are not thinking. That's why our skills of basic knowledge come into play and that means basic knowledge of body parts. If our job was just to sit there and type without thinking about what we are transcribing, then all patients are in trouble and this is just based on what I see as a QA person.

It's more than just knowing how to transcribe and some of the companies have discovered how to know what your basic knowledge is based on what you have picked up with your experience by utilizing your references etc. Hopefully that utilization of your references has taught you something that does stick in your head.

Beliefs like yours are just so far off base. You have to know what you are doing. It's not just about being able to listen and type. Base knowledge is a very important thing and the services have to find a way to know that knowledge base that is there in your head.

My post should say the post above not the post below, Sheryl's post to be specific. nm

The rude rude rude post is TRUE
.
This may be true... and that is philisophically true, but
and pay bills while being screwed? This is what I think the OP is scared of... I certainly agree and honestly think it is unfair to put people in this precarious position... on one hand be grateful you still have your job, or a job, and on the other, immediately there will possibly be a cut in pay, for which you may have to give up your home, or medicine or reduce your budget for food. I don't know if I am the only one, but I think the OP still has a good head on her shoulders and that may be the problem...at least for employers out there who are switching to VR.. and their employees
