care, multiple specialities, yet..they said I didnt meet the qualifications. WHAT???? Why arent they honest and tell the truth. Do not tell me I am not qualified when I have worked for two hospitals doing all work types including radiology for all those years. Their ad said at least one year of experience. I guess 14 did not count for anything. The funny thing was that the hospital I was working for at the time had just signed them on to do our overflow, having switched from MedQuist. I just find it ironic that they were hired by our hospital which I worked for and had experience at, yet, I was not qualified enough. What a joke!!

Spheris - is it true they will hire Career Step grads without
making them take employment test? It is so stated on New MT board.
Do they ever hire new MT grads? Thx.
Really hoping to find a great company to work for.
3 years acute care experience sm
They do have ESLs and you need to be familiar with a wide range of specialties as they are hospital accounts. But lots of good dictators too. Good luck!
Over 13 years of experience in acute care and various platforms
Dictaphone is one of my personal favorites.
I have 20 years' experience in acute care, can do any speciality, can
do ESLs and I've been offered several positions in that range, though they were employee positions.
Over 13 years of experience, 5 in acute care and I did the same as you. I confess..
I just thought I was a smarty pants and knew it all so I did not use any reference material but now I wish I had. Honestly, that was the hardest test I had ever taken for a company. Just when you think you know it all.... then, that makes you feel STUPID!! So do not feel bad, but I think she should re-vamp their testing process. That would scare anyone off.
I've got over 10 years acute care experience and
the recruiter (same one for the last 100 years) called me and talked to me like I was an idiot. I pretty much told her to take her attitude and stick it where the sun don't shine. I also told her I can see why they are ALWAYS looking for MTs. She was a B-I-O-T-C-H !!
I was turned down with 13 years of experience with 4 in acute care. Go figure, but thanks anyway.
I was totally floored as I have experience with the basic 4 as well as multiple specialties. I am not quite sure what they are looking for. The ironic part was a year ago I received the same response from Spheris, yet they advertise that you have to only one years' experience. What is funny about that is the hospital I worked for had just signed a contract with them and they were hired to do work that I was doing on a daily basis at the hospital, yet I did not qualify. Very odd.
It depends if clinic or acute care, years of experience, can you do
ESLs. They pay about the same as most companies.
Experience needs to be defined better. Ten years of acute care is worth
nm
Makes no sense - They hire only inexperienced MTs for acute care
such a joke.
if acute care experience, TRX

Does Spheris ever actually hire?
Because I have applied several times, and have never received so much as an email from them. Weird, because I usually hear back from everyone I apply with.
TIA!
me too.. I do not have experience transcribing acute care and
I have been trying my luck with acute care MT companies but no one would hire me because I dont have experience transcribing acute care reports. I have experience transcribing oncology reports for three years, so if someone here who can help me find a company that hires one? It would be greatly appreciated.
If you have acute care experience, you should be fine...
but if all you have is clinic experience you may have a problem...good luck though!!!
Acute care experience is limited...
BUT I want to apply for a position in acute care. I have experience in everything except for operative reports and I am wondering if I should lie and tell the company I have this experience just to secure the position. I know I can do it because I am resourceful, but is it worth it? Should I be upfront about my experience or just wing it? Is acute care really that much harder than clinic? I pretty much aced the acute care exam, but wondering if my lack of experience will hurt me in the end. Hm...
Thanks for any advice you may have!

Actually I have done acute care for many years but

I'm an MT with 23 years of acute care
they told me to call them. I called and Heather was busy at the time and told me she'd call me RIGHT back. She never called and I never checked back; I accepted a job with another company that DID call me back. I was very interested in DSG but since they weren't excited enough about ME to call me back, I figured I'd go with one who was.
With all the acute care experience I have (as a hospital employee, as an MTSO myself, and as an IC for other companies), I am used to companies falling all over themselves trying to hire me, trying to convince me to work for them, etc. I guess they didn't recognize how VALUABLE I am!
I have 10 years + acute care, maybe that is why? nm

Against offshoring, yet hire Spheris?

What do they pay per line for acute care with tons of experience?

TT should hire you w/ 4 yrs experience
good luck
18 years acute care, heavy ESL. Thank you.

Honey, I have been an acute care MT for 25 years.
For one thing, most of acute care is NOT elective. And acute care does not consist of only surgery anyway. Also, lots of people DO have surgery this time of year because for one they have time off, and for another if they get it in before the end of the year they can claim it on their taxes for this year, and also if they have already met their deductible they want to have anything they need to get done done before the first of the year, when they will need to meet their deductible again.
It's not the time of year. It's that there are too many MTs.
I was an acute care MT for 12 years in house
getting my own clients. In my opinion, three years is not very much experience and not enough to have clients of your own. All my clients I got by word of mouth, either from the hospital MT supervisor giving them my name or from one client to another.
NO! For 25 years of acute care exp and exc education
completely. It was their way or the highway. It took me about 2 minutes to get a job that paid 3 cpl more with very, very flexible scheduling. Their flexibility and pay bought them an accurate, high-production MT that is 100% reliable and accountable.
Also, as time goes on, Spheris' benefits have eroded. I believe they eliminated PTO for PT. There is no question in my mind that more and more will be taken away and pretty soon their MTs will be working for crap, have high insurance premiums, PTO and holiday time cut.
BTW, the suits are gorging themselves on huge profits while MTs, the ones that make this all happen, get the shaft. There is no doubt in my mind that there is a suit in one of their swank offices who does nothing but figure out how to reduce/eliminate MT costs (and likely get a huge bonus for screwing MTs for the benefit of executives).
Maybe in your case. As for me, I have many years acute care and am well qualified.

Acute Care versus Pathology.... After 28 years as an
acute care medical transcriptionist, and working from home the past 7 years, I have decided to go back out in the workforce. I have an interview on Monday with LabCorp as pathology transcriptionist. After almost 30 years in the medical transcription profession, and at age 50, I am facing no retirement benefits, no health insurance, no sick time or holiday or vacation time. I know it's a little late to wake up and smell the coffee, but I figure in the next 15 years, I may have a little retirement to look forward to. Anyone working for LabCorp know anything about the benefits?
Spheris will hire you. They have lots of Career Step people.
As long as you do not need health insurance, they are fine for a new grad.
Does Diskriter hire NY MTs? A few years ago they couldn't. nm

I agree. Acute care weekend work is different.
Acute care usually hires employees, pretty much, from what I can tell. They'll need coverage for weekends. If an IC or employee stipulates no weekends, and they are hired with that in mind, then why send work their way? This is the fault of the employer or client sending the work, not at all the MT. I kind of get tired of hearing how people get abused in this profession simply because they want a day off. We need days off just like everyone else, and someone who particularly wants to work those days will surely cover if there is an urgent report to be typed, but THIS PAYS MUCH MORE! STAT reports and weekend coverage should pay primo rate, in my opinion, and none of these MTSO's I have seen, so far, has come even close to the compensation I would look for to be at their beck and call. Enough said, I guess.
I agree with your post. I hire them too but the co
I just worked for did nto appreciate them. I know they are out there and go that extra mile. I want to find a company who appreciates their MTs and QA staff and who will instead of trying to get them to kill themselves recognize them for what they do and how well they do it. Sick of these companies. They appreciate no one.
There are always those who do nothing and try to make excuses for not being there, but for every 2 there are a good 5 who are hard workers and companies clump everyone together into one category, which just is not fair.
New Grads
I started a month ago and I'm just now at 150 lph. I'm not a newbie. Let's see, you've got training on the platform and your pimary account and then comes your secondary account, and their QA department is no joking matter. Oh yes, you have your ESLs, some of whom can't speak at all, so you need to put together some quick normals. All I can say is good luck. On top of that, there's no money to be made.
I don't know firsthand if they hire newbies but I agree

My experience with Spheris isn't bad at all. I have been with Spheris sm
6 months and already have 40 hours PTO. I was shocked. Spheris is a great company. After 90 days I did get my sign on bonus and didn't even have to ask. There is soooooooooooooooo much that Spheris offer I wasn't even aware of. I am so glad that I didn't listen to the negative posts on this board in regards to Spheris because I am a happy camper.
I had the same experience with Spheris, but
I decided when I wanted to leave. I had a very difficult account with many ESLs. This account was not for a new MT with no experience. I never had the same dictator and could not keep up. I was saved because I used my experience and training from Andrews school to combat the nasty accounts they gave me. I fought back hard, but realized I did not need to fight hard to stay at Spheris. I gave them my 2 weeks notice and had 3 jobs waiting for me when I left. Another coworker, who was put on this same account, was fired. She could not keep up on this difficult account. I had no experience, but I paid for a good education and took my good education and went somewhere else. I had the last laugh. Guess what? I am good. I am meeting production and getting incentives at my new job. Don't take the crap. Move on. At Spheris, as a newbie, I made 0.55 cpl. Now, I make 8.5 cpl. GO ME!!!!
Any experience with Spheris?
Hello!
I am looking for some information about Spheris. Anyone with information on workload/pay/overall would be appreciated! Good or bad, I'd like to hear it!
I just had their recruiter contact me and I am looking to make a change from my current company.
Thanks!
Unfortunately there are new grads out there desperate for a break and some may take it. :( nm

Anyone who works PT for Spheris, can you tell me what your experience has been like, esp if you also
xx
Over 4 years with Spheris. NM
..
Yep, one of the "top 3 schools" has grads that will work for this.
On the forum of the MT school I graduated from, I see all the time new MTs taking jobs for 1-2 cpl for editing jobs. Right now there are posts of those willing to work for free just to get experience. It drives me crazy. They don't get that they are driving the rates down for everyone. Why would a company pay more when there are new grads beating down their door to work for 1-2 cents per line. They don't get that they are ruining the profession they have just worked so hard to get into.
Spheris was the worst experience of my life!
Horrible, HORRIBLE accounts, and no one to speak with if you encounter trouble - just voice mail! I didn't even give them 2 weeks notice because it was such a waste of my time, which I have never done before with any job that I've had. I wish you the best of luck in your job search. After 7 years of service, they should treat you better than that.
MY experience was my hosp. fired Spheris
)
i worked for spheris 4 years sm
i worked in radiology part of spheris. i had a great supervisor. the pay is ok. my problem was no raises, or if they don't want to give raises, at least acknowledge people some how. there were a lot of times when we had to help cover while people were out sick or hurricane katrina stuff. i had been there 4 years and never a raise. (no one got raises). another big issue for me was they send work to india. i don't like that at all. that's one reason why i quit. i now work for a company as an IC and they don't send their work overseas. they are much more personable. i worked for Spheris when it was edix, and i liked it much better when it was edix.
I worked for Spheris for 4 years
They expect you to keep your required linecount weekly, pay on time, pay is on low side, they offshore, insurance is not good, supervisors and QA are good. Overall they are decent.
yes, at Spheris, for 4 years now, 80+ reports
nm
Because I do not have the 5 years they require for rad. Spheris
took me on with 1 year experience and now I have 3-1/2 years total. I am thinking of applying anyway to see what they would say, especially because they know that my SIL trained me.
Well, I worked for Spheris for three years ...
Speaking of Spheris from the perspective of a past employee, I wasn't impressed at all with the company in its role as my employer. The best that I can describe their corporate mentality is that of a sweatshop -- low wages; poor, disorganized, unresponsive, and often inexperienced management; woefully inadequate benefits; and only minimally helpful QA.
However, if you're asking about the quality of transcription, I found that for the most part my colleagues were very quality oriented, most very experienced. Despite a lack of validation on all fronts, i.e. pay, appreciation, etc., they took pride in their work and put out quality documents.
I hope this helps.
I made in the low 50s at Spheris 4 years ago.
Yes, you can.
