outsourced and to add insult to injury, we are expected to survive on what is practially tantamount to Third World wages? Not only that, but as a MT for the last 25+ years, I am livid about the fact that our medical information is in the hands of individuals outside of this country not to mention SS#, etc. IMO that particular issue among others I have listed should be a legitimate cause for concern....

I was amazed also about...sm
the MT who stated she did make many errors. As we all know, in our field we have to be particular in what we do. And, everyone, I mean EVERYONE makes mistakes...we just have to watch them and try to prevent them and do the best we can. But it does go both ways: MTSOs need to work hard for us to provide us with plenty of work, half-way decent benefits and also respect us because we are what is keeping your business going after all. It is a two-way street and we all have to realize that we cannot have one without the other!
I'm always amazed (sm)
that whenever they offer a bonus like that and the work is so far behind, somehow it almost never fails, everyone pitches in, even if it just for a few hours, and the work somehow gets done. They have been a great company to work for, and I think a lot of it has to do with morale and actually wanting to help out, not just $$.
I'm AMAZED that
Amazed would take the time out of his/her busy life to post something like this. You know, I hesitate to even post on here anymore because of all the snippy comments like this one. I have to wonder how many hours it took you to come up with such a witty answer. Not that it is any of your business, but I wanted to be semi prepared for my phone interview, which is Friday, about which direction I wanted to go as far as part time, flex part time, etc., but thanks for your most helpful input. The next time I need someone to state the obvious, I will be sure call upon you.
To those of you who did respond, you've answered a lot of questions I had, and I sincerely thank you.
I am always amazed at
how many people say they do not get paid by their MTSO! Not sure if they are the same companies (we know there are at least 3 from your experience).
Seems to me we should be able to give the names so no one wastes their time getting hired by them!
I think you should try some lawsuits and get those late fees covered!!
And would you be amazed to know that most MTs
have now just topped out at 7 to 8 cpl, while the newbies make 9 cpl on clinics, yet they experts struggle with the difficult ESLs, being paid less. That is exactly what the problem is, and you've nailed it but don't even realize it. Why should I 30 years into my career make the same as a newbie who doesn't know a boil from a blepharoplasty. That is what we are talking about - wages comparable to experience, fair wages, fair benefits, etc. This is so much more than MTs whining. We have valid problems in our industry, not to mention that the work is being offshored right out from under our hardworking feet, and some of us are trying to brainstorm a SOLUTION. What is so disgusting to you about that? You don't want to participate - fine. You don't believe in any of our causes? Fine. Either things continue as they are now, status quo, and you'll never notice, or things will deteriorate as they are, and you'll be out a job, or imagine - things might improve and you could benefit from change for the better. How hard is that to swallow?
i am constantly amazed
at how MW can make such a good impression on new employees, but then they are good at doing that. you have not worked for these people long enough to see how they really are, obviously!
I am amazed by how many ungrateful MTs there are
posting on this board! People complaining about making 9 cents a line on clinic notes??!!! Ranting about 9 cents a line with only 3 years experience! Wanting to form a union now? Come on, people!!! After a few months doing this work, most MTs can do 200 lph. At 9 cents, that's $18 per hour! Work on your speed and your expander, type 250 lph and you can give yourself a raise to $22.50/hr! Can anyone else tell me what other field out there can you make that kind of money after a short home study course with no college required???? And on top of that, work in the comfort of your own home??? Americans are so spoiled!!! That's part of the problem with this country right now! We want, want, want as much as we can get, get, get for as little effort possible. That's the American way, and look at the economic mess we're in now!!
That's just my two cents... take it for what it's worth.
I am always amazed to read what others put here about TTS
I think without a doubt that there must be something terribly wrong with anyone who writes a post like you. I have worked for TTS for about 2 years or better now and never have 1 single, solitary problem with them. No one has attitude with me. People let me work independently. I have no one to micromanage. I have no one breathing down my neck. I have no dominating person and God only knows, would never put up with a person with threatening behavior. I for the life of me just do not believe your posts. I never run into what you are describing. This has been a place that I am truly happy with and hope to be there for as long as I can.
I don't work for TT. I'm just amazed at your lack
xx
I don't even work there and am amazed at the bashing here. sm
From everything I can tell, there are only a handful of good companies to work for of the bigger ones yet I see a lot of negative, bashing posts for these same company that stink of one or two people with chips on their shoulders.
From all accounts, I think that the few that are good, including Webmedx, Keystrokes and MDI-MD, want experienced MTs who produce quality reports and do what they commit to doing in the time they commit to completely their days. Not too much to ask, but there are handful of people here at MTStars that feel like everyone is out to get them.
My advice to all of you that complain about QA departments and strict companies: Brush up on your skills, learn from your corrections, work your shifts OR GET A NEW JOB IN A DIFFERENT LINE OF WORK.
You all give professional MTs a bad name.
I am still really amazed about that MT who bashed the co this week for being fired because of her
poor quality! You rarely see an MTSO fire an MT because of poor quality (boy would I love to see it having seen some of the poor quality that is sent to the facilities) because there are some who are just given so many chances that they do not deserve. They need to be weeded out and continue to be weeded out and for one to publicly come on here and bash an MTSO for doing what they had to do really has stuck in my mind.
I still think MTSOs really need to be a cut above the MTs when it comes to going off but yes I do understand that sometimes they just have to say something.
Their verbal test was not hard at all. I was amazed
really that it was as easy as it was because when she said she was giving a phone test, I panicked. I received a job offer a day later and gladly accepted it as they sound like a very nice company.
I am just totally amazed at this what some people think is fair for us!!
You want us to go on assistance?, in a profession that takes 5 years to get good enough to do this at home, that is 1 past a college degree, and many, many wonderful transcriptionists listening, listening, until we could hear it too, and not having to have our nose in books constantly, it takes at least 5 years, I have heard that over and over when I trained in a hospital, girls telling me to hang in there, major mark at 5 years. Now you think with all that if I don't make enough to pay my rent, buy groceries, utilitieI (and sometimes not much more), that there is assistance out there for me when I work my buns off and my nose is not in books constantly anymore, but you think that counts for nothing. What a stupid, stupid remark to make for hard working transcriptionists with years in this profession to make a remark like that to bow to the people who are living like kings and we need to get assistance. Why don't we give a break to the patient's whom we do their reports? The hospital that provides a place for the doctors to dictate (I am sure if they get a break it will be through us). Maybe you think we should get an outside job so we can contribute more to the nationals who are getting vulgarly rich off transcriptionn. Sheesh, I am constantly amazed at stupidity in this profession, if it is one anymore.
The majority
of their accounts are NOT online yet, most are still C-phone or Lanier.
The majority of them do. There are still some that
don't, but the list is growing all the time of the ones that do.
Not a KS employee just amazed at the conclusions that people on here jump to. I work for a
small MTSO and hope that they are never mentioned here. I would hate to see someone I know attacked so constantly. I feel sorry for service owners that are not MQ or that big.
I agree. I think since the majority SM
of the workers in this field are female, they are hesitant to take action to preserve their financial stability and just sit and wait for things to get better (they almost never do).
For the majority of tests, you HAVE to go by
BOS2. No way you can pass it if you are not following the rules.
This is a fact and you might as well accept it for what it is -- FACT !
It would be a sevice that uses ExText, such as Keystrokes, and I don't know who else uses it. I would think that Keystrokes is as big or bigger than TT now, however, wouldn't you?
Just took a test today for a company and I am amazed how rusty I am after not testing for years and
years. I had to really think about things again. I guess after you test enough you get used to it. That is the first one I took in about 13 years. I just more or less did it to see how it was. Should be interesting to see how it went because I really dont want to work for the company I just wanted to take the test. A lot of tricky questions in it.
Great post and very true! I read these today and was amazed that someone's first thought was pay
I agree that circumstances can make loans necessary but the OP sounded more like she uses these on a regular basis. No I'll have to learn to budget for the difference, just oh no, now I need to go to Payday Loans and pay 400% interest.
We have the potential to earn what we need to, although sometimes lately it is harder and harder.
Good for all of you. Wish I had seen these earlier.
p.s. Can someone call and tell my BIL to grow up too?
Heartland - Majority of the US accounts

The majority of them offshore. The list will be
much shorter if you ask what companies don't offshore.
For a few works okay, but majority have problems sm
sooner or later. Can be fine one day and next day can be sick to death with vomiting, diarrhea, obstruction, on and on. Have seen it too many times. A friend I know had to stay in a nursing home for a year after her surgery from major complications. She still is not right, plus she is fat again.
I think this surgery is just a quick fix kind of thing and not anything that lasts for long. There are still too many unknowns about it and other risks over a long period of time.
It is 90 days, just like the majority of companies. (nm)

Sounds like TransTech and it's NOT how the majority of accounts are. nm

I wish the majority of sheeple in this country would wake up and
see the reality, but they won't until it's too late.
Even after years of doing this, it's NOT true for the majority of MTs these days. Look at how man

Majority of MTs say just give me the work and leave

Oh so true. The majority of recruiters I have emailed (sm)
either don't give you the courtesy of a reply, or when they do get around to it 6 months later, you're already working somewhere else. I like your idea, but I don't think it would succeed. If they can't take 15 seconds to reply to receipt of your email with an automated message, I highly doubt they would reserve time out of their day to give attention to us on boards such as these.
I think majority of negative comments start when work is low and
they start looking for another job. I, for one, would rather be too busy and have to work an extra hour or 2 than not to have any work. Overhiring is the death of all of us, since we do not have a guaranteed income unless you are a team leader or hourly employee.
Failure to pay on time is another large problem that will produce negative comments.
If companies were actually above-board with the problems at their company before the hiring process is completed, a lot of this could be avoided.
A majority want 600 lpd for PT. Being able to put in extra hours varies from place to

Infinity makes the majority of the foot pedals, so to
ask if an Infinity pedal will work is too general of a question. Do you need game port, serial port, USB, 9 pin, 15 pin, etc. They can be configured different ways so just because it is an Infinity doesn't mean it will work.
I use an Infinity pedal but it is specially configured to be compatible with only DVI.
You have absolutely get your lines in the vast majority of the time - sm
In other words, you cannot have technical problems one day, decide to run errands the next, and then the 1 day out of 3 you decide to work there is very low work and you cannot get your lines in they will call and/or send an e-mail asking why. You need to be doing what you agreed to in your contract or you are going to get fired. I think that is true at most places now.
Exactly. The majority of the population can't afford health care.
Huh. Sound familiar?
The majority of places have you use templates and software platforms. Maybe someone can suggest a

They send a majority of the Escription accounts to India. There are a few of the hospitals that said
they could not send their work there but I suspect they do anything. In any event, yes, a lot of the easier work goes to India and they are proud of this affliation, not bad it doesn't pay my bills. Then, they wonder why we are so angry about India taking our jobs.
well she is a liar then. the majority speaks and the truth has been heard. sorry, actions speak

You are in a profession
of people who really are scrambling for work. It's not like you are a doctor or lawyer. You are a typist and so stop being so uppity about it. your profession. I thought you had friends and that you are a mother, sister, niece.... get lost
Thanks everyone! Due to this profession and
all the garbage that goes along with it, I have accepted a position outside of transcription. Pay is better and bennies to boot! It's sad to see what this profession has lead to . The ungratefulness from MTSOs is growing by leaps and bounds. Please no replies that.... the grass is not always greener, etc. Been there, done that.... I'm very comfy with my decision. I can always fall back on transcription -we are a dime a dozen whether we are seasoned or newbie (unfortuantely)!
This profession... SM
can be a rewarding profession, but definitely not an easy one. There are waves of workflow, waves of pay, waves of anger, waves of joy, waves of guilt, waves of happiness, waves of sadness, waves with a shark lurking (like an ocean). hehe
So what do we do in the ocean? Go with the waves! Surf's Up!!!
MT isn't the only profession
As a coder, we often work around and in spite of. Their written documentation is just as bad as their dictation. One visit the patient has metastatic cancer, the next visit they have cancer in situ, then they have a history of cancer, etc., etc., etc. One visit HIV positive, next visit AIDS, next visit HIV positive. There is no consistency at all. They come in with a visit diagnosis of Diabetes type 1 but their office note says type 2. MTs have it rough but we're not the only one. I think anything in the HIM field meets these challenges. They're just in such a big hurry to whip through it that they don't pay attention. Most docs consider doing their documentation just too big a bother and scr__ the consequences.
And I think that anyone in this profession that has
in this year 2009, should automatically be a CMT; no test; no money; just grandmothered into a CMT. I am only 38, but I've been transcribing for almost 20 years now and used to have to look every word up in a dictionary and didn't have Google or electronic spell checks to help me do my job. I feel like I should already be a CMT and not have to take the test.
I also think the line rates are very low here lately especially for acute care work that requires evenings and weekends. I know this profession is 24/7, but all MTs deserve more than 7 cpl to work nights and weekends as in any other profession, there is a shift diff that pays.
As far as the ist at the end of my title, I don't mind. A transcriber, in my opinion, sounds more like the name of a machine or office equipment. The ist I feel is derived from the term specialist, so add what you like before the ist and that's what you get; it is not belittling and definitely not feminine when you consider how many male physicians there are in society today. Furthermore, I'd take a male dictator over a female any day of the week.
Okay, I'm done... for whoever cares...
This is the only profession ......
that the longer you are in it and the more experienced you are, the less you get paid.
If you are in this profession you have to
accept them, they are part of it whether you like it or not, or as you say - get out.
MTs getting out of the profession
I agree with that assessment. My local technical college is discontinuing their MT program because of the changes being made. So what is going to happen is that there is going to be a huge paucity of qualified people who can accurately transcribe and edit the few remaining necessary functions that they now perform and they will then be at a premium and the price will go up. Then once the medical providers figure out that the way they keep records (EMR point and click and VR), while they may be expedient and cheap, are not living up to the hype and hence will get them into trouble legally (due to sloppy entries and slipshod data entry by the physicians themselves), they will reassess the need for those in our profession and go looking for us again. Perhaps we will be there but probably not.
to have a real profession
So before you going calling anyone dumb.... think about just how skilled you aren't. MQ'ER move along.
Don't let this sour you on this profession. sm
There are great companies out there and horrible ones. What was horrible for you might be a good fit for someone else.
the problem with this profession..
is..... it is very ill defined. nothing is measured, nothing is objective, at least consistently. 7 cpl is equal to 10 cpl somewhere else. a few examples. people don't say they are acute care MTs to annoy you, there are a million different scenarios and a whole lot of jargon being thrown around, and i guess i'd be wondering what a person is called that does acute care but no ops. a whole half a company where i work are like that. so.. uh...see. every scenario is different... which is a major part of the problem.
but, in response to your note, i disagree with a whole lot of it, and it's due mainly to what i say above. i chose to work at home because i dont want to work at an office so i am sure as heck not interested in turning this environment into the very thing i left.
any, may i submit to you, and many others speaking in these forums.... it's fine to express opinions; it's not heard with much regard when it is touted as fact. you see divas. i see an industry of people who have been taken advantage of like no other. there is no accountability from the doctor, the hospital, or the MTSO... it all runs down hill to the MT. laws are blatantly ignored and policies rarely written with any definition. if you want to compare the way we work to traditional offices, when was the last time you worked at an office where you worked 10 hours to get in 8, and you only got paid for some of the work, but not all. it's come to be the norm here.
some heavy duty revamping needs to take place... and i'm working on it. everyone put their thinking caps on about what's really at the root of these problems, and stop arguing for crying out loud. never seen so many arguers in my life. it's apples and oranges that everyone is arguing over.... little bites of fact taken out of context. no big picture.
i will be back over the next few months to hear them. let's get down and serious and fix this chaos. look underneath what got you ramped up.. the ramping isn't valuable, but figuring out what is driving it is. i say we start a revolution.
