If you work over 40 hours, you must be paid overtime. Advance approval is standard in company policy manuals, but not part of the law. If that overtime was not approved in advance, the company can fire you/penalize you in some way (probation, etc), but they still must pay the OT. There are some exceptions to this law, but MTs on employee status do not fall into the exception categories unless you are under age 18 and working for your parent.
