Actually, I have heard of facilities

Okay, my apologies if I thought you were biting my head off. I'm so used to the negativity that usually runs rampant on these boards that (without my usual pot of coffee to start my morning), I thought you were discrediting my concerns. Again, my apologies :-).

Back on topic, I have recently heard that facilities now do push every dictator through onto VR, no matter how horrible they are (I guess they figure it's the MTs problem, as usual).

There are very odd things going on at MDI-MD, and with the new offshoring, etc., it makes sense that they would pull back the ones too difficult for the ILPs to understand and pass those on to the American MTs.

But I seriously would like some opinions on why work is disappearing for 3-4 days, then reappearing for transcription. The ONLY thing I can think of is this, too, is work that was routed to the ILPs but it was close to falling (or already had fallen) out of TAT and they needed the American MTs to pull it back in line. Like I said, I've been on this account for more than a year and this NEVER has happened, EVER. The work was somewhere...the question is, where?

IMO, I think the lack of work, the only remaining transcription being the dregs of the dictators, and work suddenly appearing (and large volumes of it) 3-4 days after it was dictated just all points to offshoring in progress.

Any thoughts on that?

And, yes, BTW, like you I do VR and love it. I think Escription is just about the greatest thing since sliced bread, lol!

CMT, or the AAMT.  Although they (AAMT) want to you to believe it matters, the CMT designation isn't really an important factor in the real working MT world.  Quality is what matters to the healthcare providers with which I work, and unfortunately having CMT after one's name doesn't guarantee that. 


The AAMT also is pushing for mandatory certification.  That will never happen.  I predict the AAMT will go broke within a couple years.


The bottom line is to do quality work.  That will keep an MT working and in demand.

From what I know the three hospitals are actually one big account with three facilities and then
the fourth is a cancer center. I have worked at Transtech for almost two years and it's the best job I've ever had. I think you will have a primary account and then a backup. I don't know of anyone here who has more than that.
Most facilities don't know their work is offshored
the MT dept. head knows about it and nobody else. That's pretty evil. Hadn't thought about that.
Facilities have to have employees vote
on whether to accept a union or not at their place of employment or not. If the majority of employees vote no, then a union does not go into that specific facility.
All those facilities amount to 1127 sm

actual beds (the size of 1 large teaching hospital), clinic work, a rehab center with 40 beds and an imaging center.


The list of facilities sounds impressive, but does not amount to the number of accounts we have lost and will lose over the next few months.


The way W overhires, this account will be like all others, everyone fighting for some work.


Depending on where you live, there are many facilities hiring.
Check with Radiologix. They had an ad running for MT, pay well with great benefits.

If you check around, there are many other facilities hiring in-house if that is what you prefer. Some are hiring at-home employees also with a better setup than what you describe.

Pick yourself up! Don't let it get you down. Life can be much much worse.

Really, if you were in a room full of people and everyone threw their problems into the middle of the floor, you will see you really have no problems at all!

Um, some facilities are getting back huge mistakes!
Depends where you work. If you have access to all reports, try looking up some that have gone to the facilities. Where I work, it is frightening!!!! ; 0

Some facilities or hospitals keep their own servers in-house sm
to store their medical records. eScription is a software program used to access those files.

It all depends on how each client handles their contracts with eScription. Not every client or hospital is the same.
Big facilities contract out MT through administration. Drs have no say, they dont pay the bill.

Our only hope lies in the facilities staffing MTs direct. SM
Win/win. They save a ton even if they pay us more per line which in turn puts us back in the bladk. We get affordable health coverage and labor laws.

...since I personally know the person who did the QA on on the account she referred to, I asked her and she said "no!"

Interestingly, the MT who claimed they outsourced a particular account did not even work in the same group.

I heard about their QA and that
it is very difficult.  I heard they will fire you without warning for a low QA score.  That is just what I heard, not sure about it tho.

Honestly, how does this work? There is no way for them to preselect all of your work is there. I just do whatever comes up in my queue as I am sure everyone else does. I just happen to be on a very busy account and I am sure others feel the same way, work-wise. I do not understand the attitudes.

Yes, I just talked to someone I email who works for them and she said that also, about not getting down time pay if your QA is under 97%. I work limited part time so don't ever get down time.
I can't keep up with all the changes and inconsistencies. I don't like the new phone system either. Have to jump thru hoops to talk to someone and then you aren't really sure if you are talking to the right person. Yes, venting. That's okay. It is nice to have someone to talk to and see if others feel like you do. Do you think things will get better??

one of the hospitals on oahu outsourced to heartland (they released MTs of 30+ years), and i heard that the quality of the reports became real bad due to the people in heartland not having good english skills.

It was Tues - Sat or Sun - Thurs schedules and 8 1/2 cents per line if you worked the 3rd shift. They wanted 40 hours per week full time, insurance kicked in after 90 days, and direct deposit. They send you a PC, I believe.

I have not had personal experience with them, but had a friend who worked for them in QA. She had to leave and find another job because not only was work very famine like, but what came in was real garbage from India. I hope this helps some.

a few months ago after passing a test. the person i spoke with (forgot her name) was very nice and offered me a starting pay of 8 cpl. i dont remember much, but i decided not to take the job and emailed her to let her know i had accepted a position with a local company. it was nice that she made the time to respond back and wished me well. i remember some negative posts after that about a lot of ESL accounts. sorry, thats all i remember.

that it's different for different accounts, either 8 cpl 65 char or $1.10 a report, but don't know that for a fact.

WE WANT TO BE HEARD!!!
We work ourselves for hours on end, get cheated for lines but get yelled at to do more more more. There are sometimes better ways but the head honchos want to make all the decisions.

In other fields companies allow their employees to provide input, suggestions, have round table discussions, powwows, whatever but in this field we get the orders from the power hungry managers who in many cases don't have nearly the experience or training that the MT's have. That is disheartening too.

We are not allowed a voice, we are not treated like people, only a number. Do this do this, type type type but don't ask for anything, do as you're told and don't ask questions. We know what's best because we have a title by our names. That is total bull malarky.

So what we want is to be heard. That is why you see negative comments here. The majority of the MTSO's don't care about our ideas. In fact they don't even share other MT's names or schedules or emails sometimes for fear that they will try to have a life away from the MTSO. What is wrong with having telephone discussions or get togethers somehow without being yelled at or something that does not even pertain to you or listen to some managers sound like idiots?

A voice. Thank you MT Stars for the voice, now if only the MTSO's would give us a voice without fear of giving up a little bit of power. It is a honkin joke anymore and yes we are totally fed up.

You are so right! Agreed! Very, very few MTSO's appreciated a good MT when they have one. One company I worked for never paid -- did this to many -- another sent me NSF checks. I am working two jobs now. One I love and one I hate because of certain QA people who all tell you to type things a different way. This is all confusing to the MT. It's not worth the headache for the small amount of money and no benefits. I love what I do, but I hate what is happening to this field. Something needs to change.
