Editing voice recognition

From my own experience, you can make more typing.  The pay for editing is usually pretty low, by the line, and because the recognition is so bad, you might as well type the reports. The companies that market SR basically tell their prospective clients what they want to hear, e.g. that their SR can understand bad dictators and ESLs, that their SR isn't thrown off by background noise and that the doctors can dictate from anywhere (like their car in heavey traffic), and the SR will understand them.  I myself use SR to transcribe due to bad hands and wrists and I know what it can and cannot do.  I spent a lot of time training mine so I get around 98% accuracy.  Very few doctors will put in that kind of time.  The worst SR program that I have edited is Dictaphone and it is just terrible.  E-Scription is better and more user friendly.  Medquist's program isn't bad either, but it still boils down to how good the dictator is and if he/she is willing to change his/her dictation habits and where they dictate from, and most importantly, use a headset when they dictate.  Once a mumbler always a mumbler and if they are used to dictating their reports right after they see a patient, in the hall with phones ringing, nurses talking, etc., it is a lost cause as far as SR is concerned.  You might want to search the archives for messages from other people who have tried editing SR.  Good luck.

the pay for voice recognition/editing is better at MQ than Transcend
Transcend only pays 60% of line rate, at least MQ is 80%.

Is that true?
What is everyone making doing voice recognition editing?
Can anyone tell me what you are making monthly doing voice recognition editing?  I am doing it now and I am not sure if I am making enough money or not.  Thanks
In a voice editing position, they are terrible.
Theya re just training the engine for the account i was on and it was horrendous. No way in hades to make a line count because of formatting issues.
Mq's voice rate is 3 cents a line, nm

Voice will reduce transcription and increase editing

along with lowering pay across the board.  There is a company I left after a short period of time who bought into Dragon's sales pitch.  It was a medical management company who thought they could make a quick buck moving into MT.  They bought the sales pitch without understanding the whole picture.

They hire at $8 an hour, have great benefits and expect you to kill yourself for that $8 an hour.  IF you edit more than 16,000 lines a day for each pay period (2 weeks), then you pay bumps up to $10/hr.  But if the average for any pay period is less than 16,000 lines per day, you get stuck with your $8 and are told if you don't like it leave.  Well, I did.  The day after I left they announced they were sending the editing to India.  Ain't that a kicker?  Their reason?  To get the MTs in India to train Dragon so the American MTs can make their 16,000 lpd goals and have happier employees

Things that make you go hummm.

Or 1.5 cents a line for editing. nm

Does anyone know anything about radiology voice recognition editing with Superior Global? sm
I cannot find anything about them.  How do they pay?  Do they have enough work?  How are they to work for?  Any info at all would be appreciated.  TIA.
Transtech does have voice recognition. Horrible platform for editing.
Dictaphone Exspeech is the very worst VR platform I have ever worked on.  Yes, the MT line rate is much reduced for it, too.
editing rates are 1.5 cents per line....can you say SLAVE WAGES??

What is average? 7 cents, 8 cents, 9 cents? 65-character?
x
I also work for 8 cents a line. I left a job typing OPs for 10-11 cents sm
to take a clinic job. I made an average of $17-18 an hour with OPs, now make $16-17 an hour, but the work is easier on me. I do not call that poor pay. I type 200+ lines an hour. True, it isn't the $26-27 an hour I was making 10 years ago at a hospital, but that's gone for good. I have excellent skills, make better than 99% on QA at any company I have worked for, and some of those have been very demanding.

I'm afraid the people that are expecting to make $20-30 an hour in MT are going to be disappointed. A few can still make that amount, but for the average good transcriptionist, the pay is much more likely to run $15-20. Benefits are pretty much gone. However, I feel that what I'm making is considerably above what I could make in another field, unless I decide to teach, which I will not do. Still, I make more than I would at Walmart or Burger King, or even a secretarial job. It's my choice. Good luck to you.
The mentoring program does not pay 8-1/2 cents per line. Believe it is like 6 cents.

4 CENTS , SCHMORE CENTS. THAT'S WRONG!
Whether an MT is new or an editor, 4 cents a line is deeply insulting, and 9 cents per line isn't really too much better. You know, I understand that most of these MT companies want to save money, but most of them don't seem to want to pay what an MT's time and skills are really worth. Why not pay an MT who has been in the field for 7-10 years or more 15 or 20 cents per line? At least I might consider working for one of these companies at home if I were to be paid that much straight off the bat for having 12 years' experience, but I guess that would be too much like right...
Do they still pay you 5 cents a line and 2 cents if you send anything to QA?
xx
I have a problem with 7 cents and 8 cents a line because
...when I started 15 years ago, my very first MT job started me out at 8 cents a gross line, then went to 9 cents a gross line after only a year. I was SOOO happy and proud of myself for choosing a profession that paid so well - I imagined myself making a lot of $$ once I had 10 or 15 years experience behind me...

Well that never happened; in fact, it all went backwards, pay wise. The company I worked for back then sold out to a national, and of course the pay was cut, and 9 cents a gross line was never to be had again, at least not that I could find. I am considered living in poverty now. I started out great but have ended up very badly.

I think my own personal problem is that it's hard for me to let go the fact that I made good money just starting out and how everything I had ever learned about jobs, careers and pay was that the more experience and education you have in a particular field, the more your pay goes up as each year passes. Well my pay has been consistently taking a nosedive for at least a decade now. I actually have to work MORE to make at least as much as I did years ago, and it's killing me health-wise as far as my wrists, my legs, my neck, my back....

It also kills me that I'm going to have to accept 7 or 8 cents a 65-character line when I made so much more than that 15 years ago.

I suppose to someone who's just starting out, 7 or 8 cents would seem pretty good, though. Maybe that's why I haven't been able to land any jobs with my resume. They may not want me with my years of experience, probably want a newbie who will be more grateful about such low pay. I dunno.

I could just kick myself for wasting money on MT school those years ago when I could've spent it on a career that would actually LAST and where I'd be making great money after being in the same field for 15 years. There's just no reward to this business. None at all, IMO.

I would NOT recommend this field to anyone just getting started. To me, it's a dead field.

I'd have more freedom working at McDonalds (for a number of reasons), and, believe me, I've been considering taking a local job around my home for minimum wage. At least I'd have a consistent paycheck and would know exactly what I'm getting every 2 weeks, then build from there as far as another job or two.

Well anyway that's all. I really need a job. I'm going down, going under, and it's a shame because I do very good work and have all this experience but no one seems to want me, even the low-paying companies. Oh well.
I think your getting it all wrong.. She is probably doing VR editing..not the same as QA editing..
Does make a difference as you are not correcting someone's else work.. just VR to make sure the sentences make sense, right punctuation etc..If you have good English skills, it is not that difficult but this 1.5 cpl is a joke.
Few cents here, few cents there stolen from you by
x
I'll add my 5 cents to your 2 for 7 cents sm
I AGREE WITH YOU!

I know an MT who sits on her laurels and whines about no work and only getting 9 cpl after 5 whole years of experience. She can type 3 specialties, won't touch an ESL, goofs off when there is work and whines when there is not. I have tried to help, but it is quite plain to me she doesn't want that help.

I have about 3 times the experience of the above MT. The only specialty I have not done is pathology. I have literally done everything else. I know the BOS 2 like the back of my hand and I have outstanding accuracy scores (even if I can't type straight here). I work as an employee and make a base rate of 8.5 cpl, which I never get because I always have some of the different incentives offered. I regularly turn that 8.5 cpl into $25 an hour and at my PT job where I get 10 cpl and faster software, I can turn that into $32.50 an hour.

I have heard, more times than I can count from other MTs that they wish they could have my income. I can tell they why they don't. It is called hang out to complain on a message board like MTStars. It is doing everything, BUT your work on your shift. It is your lack of a willingness to learn new things, even if they slow you down some. This very year, recently in fact, I was put on straight cardiology procedure notes and I didn't worry for a second that I would suffer financially. I AM FLEXIBLE and that, in a nutshell, is why most MTs will not succeed.

A long time ago I realized that if I want more money, I was going to have to work SMART, not hard. In my 15 years, I now make 5 times what I did my first year and at the same exact line rate I had then! I spend less time working to achieve that these days. So no, I can't agree with your sky is falling routine.

Most of you...your attitudes suck. If I had to have you on site as my employees, you would not last 15 minutes. The first time I heard you at the water cooler whining about your pay, I'd fire your fanny so fast it would make your head SWIM. I have eyes in the back of my head too, so when you started making that stink face you are making right now, I'd have sacked you for that, on the spot, no warning and no day's pay. The ONLY reason you all get away with this is that you THINK no one who knows you is watching and that your respective contract holders can't figure out who you are.

By and large, I can't tolerate other MTs as friends. I find them lazy, self-absorbed whiners and complainers with some the worst negative attitudes I have EVER seen! If you hate MT so very much GO GET A JOB DOING SOMETHING ELSE. I can tell you, your bad attitude, your tendency to complain, whine, witch (with a capital B), moan and ALWAYS see the most negative side of everything...THAT crap will follow you to that new career and it won't be any better than this one. You have issues and I really think they are issues for a good therapist. They are called personality disorders and many of you have them in multiples and in spades!

I think you should be completely and utterly ashamed of yourselves. Too many people are out of work, homeless, and starving this Christmas to be so opinionated and selfish.
voice
I almost took a job there but it was correcting voice recognition which I tried once and did not like.

MT is different in that each voice

So, an IC has the right to not take a voice file.  These contracts that state certain lines per week are for employees not ICs.  An IC has the right to pick and choose work just like any other profession.

Also, painters do not sign contracts ahead of time.  You sign a receipt when the work is complete.  Another thing is when you find a painter that agrees to a timeframe and sticks to it, let me know.  They are contractors just like us where things come up and they cannot complete the work.  It is all part of being a contractor and being self-employed.

Voice rec
What companies pay 6 cpl for voice recognition?
Voice Systems
What can anybody tell me about this company?  Good, bad?  TIA.
Voice systems
I would check this company out completely. I worked for this people just under a different company name about 4 years ago. The company filed bankrupcy and then reopened under Voice systems. Cindy and Lex have a reputation of being very unprofessional and they will bully an employee as well as a client. Just check them out thoroughly, they could have changed. I am trying to remember the name of the company, but I cannot off the top of my head. I will look into old tax records and see if I can find. They were based out of Albany GA at that time as well.
Voice Systems
I would not recommend Voice Systems. I had bad experience with them!!!

Voice transcription - sm

Thinking about testing for them.  I checked the archives and can't find anything.  This is all voice recognition work. I worked on editing voices files for the previous company I worked for.  I like doing this work, but didn't like the fact that it was less money.  I'm thinking I may be able to produce more to make up for the decrease in line rate.  Any thoughts on this company?

Voice Systems of Ga.
Don't do it!!!!! Very unprofessional.
FYI: Voice Transcription

I keep seeing people post about this horrific company and I thought I would share my experience with them:

1.  I still haven't received payment for work that I completed in November!! The owner (initials J.L.) keeps giving me different excuses of why she hasn't paid me. The one check I did receive from them was a month late.

2.  After one of my many emails about the money owed to me and how much exactly is past due, she sent me an email saying the amount wasn't right and that we had agreed on a lower rate for one of the clients!! Absolutely NOT true!! So, after I completed this work, she apparently decided that I would be paid 0.045 and not the 0.06/line as promised (VR editing acct.).

3.  I actually ended up quitting because J.L. went off on a rant saying that I had made an unacceptable mistake in one of the reports. Later, after I proved that I was right, she apologized and said that she had a temper because of a three day migraine.

Now, I only worked for this company for two months (thank goodness it wasn't longer). If you're okay with being treated like this and not getting paid for work that you complete and her changing your rate, then go for it, but I would highly advise against it!! For those of you below that stated you had not been contacted after testing, just thank your lucky stars that you aren't working for her and hopefully you'll take my advice and never work for her.

Voice Systems of GA
I don't think you would be happy with them.  Not very professional.
Voice recognition.
As far as I know, they only have one account and it is overstaffed so it is really hard to make any money. Some of the people hired for that account have moved on.
Voice Recognition
Does anyone know which companies hire reviewers/editors for VR work?  My hands/fingers are starting to really bother me and I need to shift gears.  Thank you!
Voice Recognition
For anyone out there who does voice recoginition can you tell me what you average per hour for lines.  Just curious to see if I am on the right page with it. Thanks

Accounts going Voice
The accounts I am working on are going voice, I just read it in their news.  My company did not tell me this.  All the while I felt like I was being used because it seemed like I was getting clean-up work.  There are hundreds or doctors and I rarely get the same one, so it's hard to get any speed up.  I have been given additional accounts, and checked them out and they will soon be going voice too.  Do I just hang in there or look for something with less doctors and more stability?  I am so disappoionted.  Have only been doing this for a few years, but wonder about the future.  My questions to the company I work for go unanswered.  Any input?
voice recognition
So far I have had the opposite effect (drop in production), BUT I have only been doing it for two months. Does someone have any hints???

Voice speed

I can't help with that as when I fix the voice through Express Scribe it stays that way.

Voice Solutions?

Does anyone out there use Voice Solutions by Central Voice, especially in conjunction with Meditech?  Just curious what all you had to have on your comp. to set up.

voice recognition.
I have been talking with a woman from Diskriter about part time shift and she did say something about willingness to learn about voice recognition. Does that mean that all the Transcriptionist become editors or how exactly does that work out for those working for them? Will there be layoffs?
Speech/voice
You are so right! Some of the idiotic things typed by the speech systems make me cringe. Presbyacusis came out please be a Q-tip. I hope those people sitting in the board rooms drooling at the prospect of makeing more off the backs of transcriptionists get a wakeup call when they are hit with lawsuits because of system errors not caught by fatigued editors trying to walk on water for 3 to 4 cents a line. I prefer to take responsibility for my own documents, not those created by speech recognition.
The voice of reason.

Did that, just voice mail. nm

Voice Systems
There is an ad on mt.com for an orthopedic Transcriptionist by C. Adams of Voice Systems in FLORIDA.  I did a search in MT Stars and there were some very bad things about Voice Systems in GEORGIA.  This seems to be the same company.  I am glad I searched here before I applied!  I doubt if they have changed much.
Voice recognition

Take my advice and avoid voice recognition if you can.  Half the pay for the same job!

Voice Systems, LLC
Hi anyone and everyone.  Please give me any info on Voice Systems, LLC.  Searched but did not get much.  I can't afford to type and not get paid in this economy.  To all the ladies and gents out there who type and know what I mean, please school me on this company, supposed to start this weekend.  Thanks
Voice Systems, LLC
I can only find a post from over a year ago on them.  Do any of you have any scoop on the company?
There you have it, a voice of experience.

How many more times do you need to hear it?  I remember one Christmas one of the experienced general pediatric clinic MTs had to work on acute care, as there were no clinic notes to be done.  She spent 1/2 hour searching to verify a tray keostomy:, before coming to ask.  Hmmmmm.  She hadn't heard much about tracheostomies in the ped clinic.  Not her fault, just something she hadn't experienced before.

YOU need to get over YOURSELF . . . give those with the experience and knowledge their due.    Some MTs don't want to learn acute care and that's fine.  I don't want to do clinic notes, I get bored easily and like longer reports.  Everyone has their preferences.  It may be easy for some to do acute care after doing clinic notes, but not for most.

Regarding Voice Recognition.

Hi:

I noticed your comment about Transcend and the Voice Recognition program.  Well I worked there about 4 or 5 months and never could get the hang of it.  I do not mean to be discouraging, but I really did not like their program.  If your line count does not improve, I would look somewhere else.  I know they have wonderful company and some of the greatest people ever, but they are not paying your bills either.  Look out for yourself in the long-run.    Hope this helps.

VR = Voice Recognition
Not the OP, but I am going to assume that VR stands for voice recognition, not a state abbreviation.
Voice Systems?
I know that some issues a few years back.  Does anyone know any current info on this company, I think out of Georgia?  Thanks for feedback.
MDI voice recognition

Just curious how the transition over to speech was going for other MDI employees.
