It is true. Any job has its good days and bad days.
Perhaps you'd like to just keep your old job and try this one out. Just because a poster here is crabbing about it, or even if as in the past there have been negative posts, odds are that there are very happy people who don't even post or know that this board exists. As Alice says. Everything is relative. The fact that this company is hiring and pays may be a place which is a blessing. As opposed to digging ditches on day labor for example. Or somebody might prefer digging ditches. This is just an example. Sometimes we who are employable, even though we don't make as much as we used to in this business, or as much as we would like to, we still if working at home do not pay for gas to go to work, career clothes, deal with office politics, have to look at a boss who writes us up if we are a minute late, etcetera. I don't make half as much as I used to, but I don't send my 3 children to day care which by the way saves us money. SO I remind my husband I am worth that in addition to my salary if I had a job outside. No job is perfect. I am not even sure if Focus is any good or not, I have not worked there. But if one poster says there are good days and bad, I say that is the most honest answer you are going to get anywhere, and if you need a job badly, how is it to hurt trying it out, until you know for sure for yourself? THanks for listening. But sometimes this board gets to be a bit much with the agendas of people railing on other people like the OP here who just wanted all opinions instead of just one side. Balance is always great. And, if things seem lop-sided, then it is a good thing to seek out both sides. IMHO.
It's 11 days per year for everyone
nm
FYI, 11 days PTO is just the 1st year
It goes up with your years of service.
365 days a year
We work 24 hours a day, 7 days a week, and of course 365 days an annum.
PTO = 5 days PTO after 1 year SM
More after 3 years or 5 years, etc. Insurance -- They are changing companies and I don't know much more about insurance. They tell us soon they will have a new carrier that is more affordable. Vista is not compatible with the oncology or ortho accounts -- Windows XP only.
30 days-true
This is true if you check with the Federal Labor Board. As ICs (small business people) we really have no recourse but court. The Federal Labor Board states that businesses have 30 days to pay an invoice by another business person. When I had a local hospital owing me $10,000 I had to get my lawyer to write a letter stating that we would put a judgment against teh hospital for the money and close it down. I got $6,000, then 30 days later $2000, then the rest but by that time they owed me an additional $3,000. It was almost 120 days after I stopped working for them before I actually got all my money owed.
ins after 1 year??? misinformed! 90 days
//
Any bonuses, days off first year?
Seems like a long time with NO days off for PTO or holidays, sick time, etc. Any life insurance or disability? THANKS SO MUCH!
No, it is 3 lousy days PTO for 1st year. nm
3 days of PTO 1st year NOT 1 week!
With the paid holidays. Absolutely not 1 week until you are there OVER a year, then 3.077 hours per pay period.
Not so true. I started at 10.5 and went to 11 after QA, which took 2 days.
You can negotiate!
Webmedx: 3 days only PTO? True?
Sounds like a great company with a lot of good feedback on this board, but I read somewhere that they only have 3 days PTO annually. |Could this possibly be true? The other companies I am applying to all list 10 days or greater per year. Webmedx is my first choice, but I don't think I can live with never having a vacation again. Anyone?
Must work one year and then 5 days off - no holidays
are paid days off. If you chose to take the day off you don't get paid, if you work the holiday usually lines and a half for that day.
They don't match 401K; 3 days PTO 1st year; 10 after that until...sm
5th year (I think, not sure) and then 15 days. NO THEY DO NOT HAVE A STEADY WORKLOAD. They are up to something/contracting work cheaply. We were all on OT last week and now have no work during, as has been said in other posts, peak flu and RSV season. It ain't all the effect of the economy. You can't trust them at all.
I am unsure how the health insurance stacks up, but vision and dental are cheap.
Even after years of doing this, it's NOT true for the majority of MTs these days. Look at how man
s
No its true, they will FIRE YOU after 3 days of training
...IF you dont hit 98%. they are just unreasonable in this manner. Totally ridiculous, like the ones firing you are not human and never had to learn anything to get WHERE THEY ARE!
Still not great PTO for first year. I get 12 days at current company. NM
NM
No this is not true. I got hired in December and started 3 days later. sm
I am glad I made the move.
Not true IMO.. when I was applying for IC less than a year ago
Tested for a few and did excellent, was contacted immediately, told me I did fantastic on the test (and I have over 15 years experience in everything including QA) and was excitedly offered a whopping 9 by the company cheerleaders! And that was with a schedule including a weekend day! So seemingly 9 is very difficult to get. I told them to keep their pom-poms! ;)
always slow this time of year...doctors take extra days off, et cetera.
it will pick back up again soon...
Not true. Transcend tried to buy Keystrokes last year. sm
Keystrokes owners turned them down as they are not interested in selling and they are against offshore transcription. They are getting as big as Transcend, maybe even bigger, and they treat their employees a heck of a lot better!
Where do you get these rumors from? Not from anyone who knows.
This is true..Put it this way. I made $45,000 this year but worked 3 jobs and at least 60
hours a week and sometimes up to 80. I have no desire to do that anymore. I'd be happy with $35,000 working 40 hours a week. What a dream job.
That is what I just said. !0 days PTO, period. That includes vacation, sick days and personal days
They should have paid holidays so that you are paid if you take off. Also should inculde extra hours for sick days and personal days.
That annual raise of .002 is kind of a joke especially when at the same time they upped the minimum line requirement from 10,000 lines to 12,000 lines.
OSi just does not have the qualified people in management positions that I wish to work for.
I am glad that you are happy at OSi and all is working out for you. Their dishonesty and the way they treat people just does not work for me.
Of course they can get by cheaply by hiring unqualified people so that is very good for the owners.
100,000/year - no way. I charge $35/hour and work 10 hour days - sm
AND I DO NOT CLEAR $100,000/YEAR.
You bill 30 days behind, and they snail mail it so it's late - about 40 days from invoice
No way jose - they even messed up their direct deposit payments
my first year I made 16k. Doubled that second year. Going on year 6 with (sm)
two local accounts I earned 23,000.00 and a national I earned 35,400... 58,400 this year. Don't ask me how many hours, though, I really have no idea. I'm pretty motivated. (When people ask me how many hours I work a week I reply as many as it takes I'd say 40-50/week. I am also a fitness instructer and personal trainer, about 5 hours a week or so. Decent money (sometimes under the table!) but mostly I just do it for fun and to be social and wear cute work-out clothes.
that first year was a rough one... but I consider it part of my education.
I'm pretty motivated.
Maybe she/he works 14 hour days/7 days a week? nm
x
Would that be 5 business days or 5 regular days?
So when are we going to be paid this time around since you're so knowledgable?
Sorry, but for some of us a day or 2 actually makes a difference.
Most want 20 hours over 5 days, but it could be more, or it could be spread over 4 days. nm
s
Axolotl within 30 days. Transolutions in 60 days. NM
xxx
I think they would. Those are good days for 10-hour days. sm
I have a set schedule but it is Tues-Sat and it works well for me. It wouldn't hurt to ask!
Last year, there was a letter sent that told us what we earned the previous year. sm
In the past, it has been all or nothing; if you did not hit the lines for full time for the year, you did not get PTO. I talked to my lead this morning about a last-minute vacation and she told me that the yearly packets are going out in a week or so and that the new policy will acrue PTO by the pay period or month. I like that a lot better, but she also made it sound like they are upping the amount of lines needed to acrue PTO. I normally get between 15 and 20,000 lines per pay period, so I am sure that will be fine but I am worried about the periods that have lower volumes, like most of January every year.
Glad that's true for you for 8 years. Not true for many. I love the company, but I do run out of
as do many others. Wish I were as fortunate as you.
Webmedx lets you carry them from year to year sm
You can accrue up to 140 hours (I think) before you stop the accrual process. Don't have to use it all in one year.
I would stick it out, most places are slow now through the end of the year every year (nm)

Not necessarily true. That is not a true test of skill.
Do you know how many people get others to take tests for them? It happens and it happens more often than you might think. The only skill that shows anyway is that you can do it.
We are actually more than a transcriptionist. We are specialists in our field and we are supposed to know some things regarding anatomy and physiology as a working base. That's how we can judge if a physician dictates something in accurately and many do because they can't pronounce or just are not thinking. That's why our skills of basic knowledge come into play and that means basic knowledge of body parts. If our job was just to sit there and type without thinking about what we are transcribing, then all patients are in trouble and this is just based on what I see as a QA person.
It's more than just knowing how to transcribe and some of the companies have discovered how to know what your basic knowledge is based on what you have picked up with your experience by utilizing your references etc. Hopefully that utilization of your references has taught you something that does stick in your head.
Beliefs like yours are just so far off base. You have to know what you are doing. It's not just about being able to listen and type. Base knowledge is a very important thing and the services have to find a way to know that knowledge base that is there in your head.
Were the 2 days weekend days? sm
They expect everyone to work a weekend day. Their definition of team player is to actually work 6 or 7 days a week. One might consider it if the pay was there & she gave out some decent work. It is the ideal place to work if you are a workaholic with no life.
11 days is more than you would get inhouse...usually 10 days.
We have the convenience of working at home and yet you want MORE than what inhouse positions offer?
Ask if those are calendar days or biz days too nm

Last year $36K part time, going to make more this year full time BUT sm
I AGREE it IS getting harder to make money. I used to make $24 very part time 10 years ago and now...well it is Word and platforms versus WP5.1. I got 7.5 cents a byte line then and I get 9.5 cents a character line now. That IS a huge different in point of fact.
OH I WANT MY WORDPERFECT 5.1 BACK!!!!! Bwaaah!
This may be true... and that is philisophically true, but
and pay bills while being screwed? This is what I think the OP is scared of... I certainly agree and honestly think it is unfair to put people in this precarious position... on one hand be grateful you still have your job, or a job, and on the other, immediately there will possibly be a cut in pay, for which you may have to give up your home, or medicine or reduce your budget for food. I don't know if I am the only one, but I think the OP still has a good head on her shoulders and that may be the problem...at least for employers out there who are switching to VR.. and their employees
90 days
...so I'm not eligible yet, but that was the first good thing I heard about the...that their pay was about average, benefits were great.
I can't give specifics yet, so maybe someone else can help with that who already has it, I just didn't want you to feel ignored!:)
Re: A few days ago...
It was not a few days ago. It was weeks ago. They've gotten everything straightened out. I've posted in defense of this company before. They are compassionate, they are very helpful, and are all about finding ways to make us be able to do better as MTs and QAs. I love this company and hope to be there for a long time to come. Those of you who have no personal knowledge of the company need to not post in response to people who are asking legitimate questions. We hire newbies that have no experience and give them a chance. Unlike so many of the 'great' companies out there that everyone spends every day worrying about. We are onboarding more and more accounts by the week and are growing tremendously. I highly recommend this company. Good luck to any of you who decide to apply.
That's what they want... we have 60 days sm
to find another job and we can give them 1 days' notice and they'll consider it a lay-off, otherwise if we leave with no notice, they will give us bad references.
We all have those days
It seems like I have days like this a lot lately. Isn't this job fun?
Five days for me. sm
have not yet started, just heard yesterday, but sounds good so far. Hoping this will be my last carnival! lol!
90 days
Diskriter benefits start after 90 days of employment. I have been with them since July 2006 and love it here.
It's been eight days now
And still no answers.
Despite their many good points, I disagree about the benefits. I think they are awful and very dependent on circumstance beyond the MT's control. I think they're only good for people who have been with them for a very long time and are allowed to stay on a primary account. I thought I was alone in this and even began to doubt my own abilities or chalked it up to my aging until talking to some other MTs who felt the exact same way; that every time they got good at anything their work was switched to something unfamiliar, keeping their production and wages down, and benefits next to nil. I've heard three MTs complain of this and wonder how many others there are.
yes, same here, last few days.
am getting concerned...did they overhire?
