*sigh* I guess I'll be sending out resumes today.

and now they have an ad on MT Daily and MT Jobs? I don't get it. I just got the backlog status report and there are a grand total of five reports on my account - and those have probably been snatched up by now by MTs waiting for work just like me.

Anyone else sending out resumes and hearing nothing?
I have 16 years in the business and 4-5 years editing experience, but am just not hearing back from companies advertising on the boards. Maybe they are receiving 100s of resumes...or is it just me? Anyone know of a company looking for an editor, please email me. Thanks!
I've also been sending out resumes and not
I've heard back from a few places wanting me to test and often don't even hear back after the test! I have over 17 years of experience and I can't be doing THAT bad on tests. I think it is probably that they are being inundated with responses.
To be honest, I do not expect a response from every single company I send my resume to. I do expect to hear back from a company once I've tested for them when it is at their request, however! I've hired before and know that when you get scads of emails, many from the same people over and over again, it gets hard to keep track of sending out I got your resume emails. If I emailed someone and asked them to test, though, I would most certainly let them know one way or the other.
I recently tested for a company that I had heard good things about and then never heard one word again. Not even that they received my test files back. I decided right then and there I wouldn't work for them anyway because that's just rude. It takes time out of our day to test and to not hear back--when they requested it--is pretty lame, IMO.
I'm not sending resumes but a few months ago I posted my
resume on a couple of job boards and didn't hear from anyone. I am not currently looking for a job and have had 2 companies contact me in the last week. I have 20 years' experience in acute care and can do ESLs. I was really surprised that I didn't hear from anyone for several months.
*sigh* I guess I will get through it one way or another :-)

Yep. Guess racisim is alive and well. Sigh.
The misconceptions are overwhelming, aren't they? People really do need to open their minds and their eyes and educate themselves. This is why my relatives in New Zealand and England make fun of Americans, for being too afraid to travel and enjoy the rest of the world. Guess some folks just feel safer hiding under their little rocks at home waiting for the big, bad Muslims to come and get them. So sad.
Can you imagine if our ancestors had been too afraid to come to America? My family arrived in 1640, and raised tobacco in the original Jamestown settlement. Hardly a safe haven back then. Thank goodness I come from such stock. I've enjoyed visits to so many different places, met so many different cultures, it makes me sad for people who are scared into the corner by boogie-men.
Anyway, this is a fine opportunity for the right person. Racists and bigots need not apply.
I guess what is confusing is why keep running new ads if you already have too many resumes
Obviously, they didn't find what they were looking for and are seeking to get more applicants. I have sent in several resumes to different companies recently and some I have not heard from at all and some did not response for another week or two, but in any case, they did not repost an ad every few days.
Guess you won, sending bottom dollar
but now with the pay like it is, don’t spend it all in 1 place. I glad you like wrinkles, most women do not but a lot either cannot afford or scared to go through with it. At high school reunions I have attended and have no problem with saying have had, most women totally interested in how much, who did mine, etc. etc. Am very glad to have been able to do mine.
You'll have work today, but not tomorrow.

Thanks for your help! Guess I'll go with them.

Thank you. I went to Walmart today, and guess what, they had one phone and it didn't work!. Go

Thanks! Guess I'll see it for myself tomorrow!
Thanks for the info!
My guess - they'll grow until their #1 (sm)
and with growth comes growing pains. Yes indeed, check your facts.
guess I'll have to go that route too,
if even MDI can put us in this situation.
I guess you'll find out when you go to work there....sm
Just be sure to not resign from Transcend until you see if this other company is truly all they told you they would be.
Guess I'll be thinkin' some more before I jump in!
nm
Guess I'll pass too. Lots of experience sm
with these types of reports but the pay is pretty shabby for a veteran MT.
I'll take a guess and say TransTech as they tell you up front you don't get headers/footers an

Keystrokes sending sending my W2, anyone else? NM

If you'll read through past posts you'll find lots of
recent info. Why do you need menitoring if you already work as an MT. Unless you do clinic work most companies will require you to work at least one weekend day, at least initially.
WOW....sigh.....
x
sigh
I think some of the posts have truth to them. I don't think QT has hired new MTs in ages and I would think that the quality issues that we are being threatened with pay reductions etc must be coming from the overseas work, which makes me angry. Do they have other accounts besides this one? I wish we could get some confirmation.
for...Sigh...
Your posting.....
'Not even gonna argue, as I can tell 100% from your dialect that you are Indian.'
About what else are you also 100% sure?
Sigh
So, it seems no one best post anything sad to say. If its negative, even if true, it will hurt the little guy the most as we often have no legal recourse or money to obtain legal counsel if a company has done us wrong. So, what is best course of action when investigating a company that has not paid their employees or other legal work-related matters? Better Business Bureau? Just wondering if anyone knows who you would contact to investigate before we sign-up or interview for a company. Also, let's face it. Transcription is becoming a very, very difficult profession regarding payment and employment. I imagine probably best to check to make sure a legitimate company, ask questions of them as they do of you, prepare to be very flexible (24/7/365), be your own IT department for computer issues (if you work from home), and go in there with a positive attitude and hope for the best. Otherwise, it seems it would be best only to post regarding words, actual jobs, software/hardware, etc. etc. and just light topics. Just my take on it all but also which is why i am slowing weaning from the world of transcription.
sigh
That is why, IMHO, it is essential to have a side job. With the way the economy is today I would not dare have a job with just one company. Things can change too quickly.
sigh...no, I don't need that. Thanks for the info.
nm
How many of us are looking for a new job in the new year? ...sigh...nm

Sigh, sorry, meant to go below.

No sense is right thanks. Sigh. nm

<> who said anything about you not being able to read? sm
I posted the ad so you could see where I saw the line rate. Guess I should have said, Apparently, she has several ads out there....
Sigh ... if only this were true
Unfortunately, if you'll take a hop skip and a jump over to the New MTs board, you'll find that they are actually willing to work for free.
And while a good talking to was given to the MT who said that, you can bet your lily white that there are hundreds more who DON'T post to this forum who are willing to do it.
Women are so desperate (after being sold the sun, moon, and stars by MT schools and paying a hefty price for them) to actually work in the field they paid to train in, they'll endure the mistreatment.
We cannot, however, argue that if they're willing to put up with it, that's what they get.
Would we say the same about the sweat shops in China and Vietnam?
Would we say the same about the people who still do business with the banks that have dragged our economy under through nefarious practices?
Moreover, would we say that it's okay for people to break the law and take advantage of people because people put up with it?
No.
I, for one, am tired of watching this happen. I worked HARD for this profession for 13 years. Every day, I see a piece of its integrity being stripped away. It's almost completely gone now, and it's probably too late. But I'd rather go out fighting than be taken out as one of the frequently humiliated and disrespected herd.
*sigh* it's happened in one way or another to ALL of us.
After all, that's the function of this particular board, isn't it?
Yes, sorry for the MDI'ers. Whaddya gonna do? They need to look for another job. How are they going to learn about the good/bad companies if the Company Board isn't serving its intended purpose?
The MDI'ers have gotten a sympathetic ear from everyone on this board for days and days now. Can't deny that!
But at some point this MDI thing has to stop monopolizing the board. How are MDI'ers going to find out information on other companies if the company board is really the MDI/Transcend board?
Just sayin'.
Me too....waiting on the work *sigh* (sm)
What is the deal, overhiring? I have only been there a few months, but geez! And I had heard really wonderful things about MDI-MD too before I started. I really like them so far, but wish the work load was heavier.
One more company (sigh) ScribeRight?
Well, I have been looking and looking. I have interviews scheduled with Transcend and also Softscript. I did research here on the boards about Softscript, and didn't like much of what I heard.
I also had a very nice woman from the boards here contact me and offer to refer me on to her company, and gave me numbers for contacts there.
So...today I was contacted by Scriberight. They seemed very nice and the testing was quite easy.
Anyone know anything about them? I'm sorry to keep posting these, but I have had to change jobs twice in the past two years due to lack of work, unstable companies, bad pay, etc....I would just like to stay put for a while and I value your opinions.
Thanks!
Another morning with no work ... sigh. nm

My hospital used to, but then they outsourced. sigh. nm

And my incredible spelling..... *sigh*

[sigh...] sounds like another Stepford MT.

Ugh .. hope 7 cpl is NOT average pay .. sigh. nm
Sigh. I had not planned to retire for
probably another 10-15 years, if my wrists hold out that long, and had fully intended/hoped to have MDI be my last MTSO. I have waded through a lot of frogs before finding my proverbial prince in the MT world and had hoped to finish out my career here. Now I'm just utterly disheartened by this recent turn of events. I'm looking into finishing my degree (wanted to do that anyway) and seeing what my options are after that, may have to get out of the profession altogether. It's depressing, as it's a job I love that keeps me challenged on a daily basis. I just have no desire to start anew with another company.
sigh - same old question - WHICH medscribe?
If you'll read the archives you'll find out everything
you want to know, none of it good.
ahem...make that BEST platform. sigh. nm

Absolutely I agree! Hindsight (sigh) ..sm
Yes, in hindsight I should not have done it. I had been in my office for days on end testing and testing. I remember it being very tough and took me a long time to finish. I was desperate (I guess) to seek my own accounts and thought this would be the first of many!
Never again! :)
[ Sigh!] I meant 'moment', not 'momwent'.
Sigh, why can't these companies just hire PTers to
work the weekends like they used to...
Get those resumes out.
Do not permit a company to abuse you. You're worth way more than that. I don't care what the excuse is, but the first sign of late pay is the first sign to find a new job. I have no tolerance for this kind of crookery, none at all. Best wishes...
There are tons of jobs out there for the taking. What is a good fit for one may not be for another, and I wish you the best of luck. I feel the larger the company the better off you are as far as timely pay, not to say that a smaller company isn't a good payer, but it seems the larger ones have more of a handle on it.
Never sign a contrast as an IC that says they'll pay you when they get paid. That's not how to do good business.
Resumes....i am so done......sm
I have been doing MT for 13 years. I have sent out resumes to about 10 different places. NOT ONE ACKNOWLEDGMENT, not one reply to my emails asking whether or not the positions have been filled.
To all MTSOs who read this board...Why not just answer/reply/respond to our emails? That is so unprofessional and this just kills any respect I ever had for any MTSO at this point.
Collecting resumes?
I don't understand why they didn't at least call you. Did you have hospital and clinic experience? Sounds like you must have as you also edited, taught, and managed. What reasons do you think they would have transcription positions for close to 5 years? Do you think high turnover or collecting resumes?
Resumes, followup, etc.
The posts keep getting removed because of names being used, even though just informational, so PLEASE email the above email. Maybe your resume was not received. Our recruiter is on top of calls and emails (been with us since August and has turned that around since taking it over) and if she did not respond, she did not get it or followed up and you did not get it. If you were referred by someone please say so and please also say that you had sent it in previously. I will make sure that she gets it. However, I know that she does not respond to resumes without the experience necessary, offshore or students, as it says in the ads. She gets several hundred resumes a week and although we are growing, we are very particular about who is being hired, so she automatically does not consider those who do not meet the requirements and resumes/cover letters with typographical errors. Not trying to be rude, just stating facts. If you meet the requirements and did not get a response, send me an email.
I don't keep resumes on file, so...
I often get people who send their resume in multiple times in response to different job postings. That being said, if the applicant doesn't have the qualifications listed in the ad, their resume goes straight to the recycle bin without a response.
Resumes and applications
I handle resumes and applications (via email) for a national company. I would like to give some resume and application tips as I am amazed every single day at what gets sent to me with the expectation that the applicant be considered for a professional, paying position.
Please consider the following:
-- Please do yourself a huge professional favor: Make sure your email address is professional. It is far better to have an email address janedoe334@hotmxxxx than to have funkydoglover6@xxxx or thejoneses@xxx. Your first and last name (even if it has to be followed by numerics) would be best and if you need numerics why not add your zip code? Please. You will sound responsible, mature, and serious about your professional identity.
-- Please make sure your resume is an attachment. It is best not to embed a resume unless the application or employer specifically asks you to. Most embedded resumes sent in emails come with all the code and I simply will not wade through it all to see if there is something there to consider.
-- When you write your resume, make sure your contact information is at the top, including an address, your phone number(s) and email address. (I suggest you print off your resume and have someone else proof it for errors, inconsistencies, formatting issues, etc.)
-- Name your resume appropriately. Please don't attach it simply called Resume. It would be best to name it with your first and last name and the word Resume in caes it gets separated from your email or, better yet, if it is saved to a file without the email!! (Example: JaneDoeResume)
-- Please, oh please, state in the subject line what position you are applying for. Who is interested in an applicant who cannot even take the time to state what position they are applying for? Not me! I doubt many are.
-- Please send one email with resume for each position you apply for. If you apply for three positions, I can only electronically file your email/resume in one position folder and you may be overlooked when collecting folders.
-- Please make some type of statement in the email and don't just send a blank email with the resume attached. Just a simple, Please consider my attached resume in application for XXXX position is just fine. A summary or synopsis of your qualifications or your life's history really is not necessary in the email because we are going to study your resume for that information. A brief cover letter-type email is fine but it should read within the single window pane without scrolling.
-- Last, but not least, please read over your email for errors (should go without saying, I know) and remember to attach your resume! It is so much more difficult to keep up with multiple emails because the resume was left off, then you want to add another piece of information, etc. Do not be in such a hurry that your application email shows it. As well, if you are applying for several positions and you are doing a copy/paste of the email content, make sure you change any job position titles within the email appropriately.
I really hope you will find this information useful -- I know for all the individuals who handle this information on the incoming will certainly make note of an outstanding resume/email application and sometimes that extra, Hey, this applicant has done a great job in presenting herself thus far can go a long way!
