They're not "taking over" the board. It just
shakeup in the MT community. I don't work for MDI or Transcend, but you better believe I'm following every single post about this, because what's happening to these MTs affects us ALL, both now and in the future. Among other things, it's a good education to read about how this all went down, because it might give the rest of us an idea of the warning signs to watch out for in our own companies. So I am extremely interested in this thread, and what these MTs are saying about it, and how they're dealing with it.
The MDI MT's have my sympathy and my support, and all my best wishes.
If you're a hard worker and a valuable MT, then yes it is
I have been there for 4 years and if I have ever had a problem (which is very rare), it has always been fixed RIGHT away.
NEWS FLASH: Everyone's time is valuable these days - SM
even a lowly transcriptionist's time. Working at home does not make it less so - in fact I'm finding the opposite is true in my case, since I have to work so many more hours to make 1/2 the pay I made as an inhouse MT.
The very least a recruiter (or anyone else, for that matter!) can do is show a little respect and if unable to keep an apointment, at least let the prospective employee know, don't just leave them hanging. If a company doesn't treat employees with respect, how do they expect the same in return from their MTs? Totally does NOT make sense.
MDI "taking over"
I wholeheartedly agree. If the title of a post does not interest me, I simply don't read the rest of it. Why is that so hard for some folks to understand??
keep digging
okay so there parent company is Nuance
a US based company out of MASS. Just because it was started by an Indian, when it was sold it was sold TO A US BASED COMPANY!!!!
when it was sold, the guy who started it cashed out! Come on, think before you post strange so called facts.
Alice and Digging In, SM
Sorry about getting your name wrong, Alice. I use Shorthand, but InstantText's method is probably much the same.
Digging, if you don't have one of those I very strongly recommend it, although Word does have a macro creation function. But whatever you do, if you're working on an employer's program, get your own program that stays with you no matter what.
In Shorthand, when I open the window where you add entries, there's a record Keystrokes button on the side. I hit that and it returns me to the text page, where I type the keystrokes as usual. When I'm finished, I hit the stop button which has appeared on the screen and give my new macro a name, which is 1, 2, or 3 letters/number/figures at most.
It's as simple as that for literally hundreds of basic corrections. Like my KK, which hyphenates two words by backing one space, inserting the dash, and returning the cursor to the next word beyond.
qiq, which erases q.i.d. and types 4 times a day for me.
Z backs up and inserts a comma, then returns to the next word.
F toggles letters into upper and lower case. I use this one thousands of times a day, but I had to copy the keystrokes from the people at productivitytalk.com because I'm no good at this stuff and my attempts to just record it didn't work. An absolute must-have! I can't believe I typed for years without it.
Virtually everthing you do, copying admit diagnoses and putting them under a new discharge dx heading, breaking up run-on sentences into two, etc., can be reduced to a tap of a key or two as you cruise by. I don't see most of my corrections occur, I'm already gone.
Be sure to check your lines per minute before you start so you can recheck them after a week of using the first few you record. You're going to love it!
You're definitely in the spotlight with a small MTSO.
Easier to run under the radar with a big company, but I'm sure it just depends on the company. Though, generally, I have found small ones have close watch on QA.
You, MTSO, should just stop coming to OUR board if you're (NM)

ATTENTION MTSO's...Pay more for editing or you're going to lose all of us!
I've heard rumors, although I don't know if it's true, that MTSOs get paid the same rates for editing and typing...so they are trying to make the money off the MTs, who slave away trying to get enough lines to pay bills.
I worked for a large MTSO, I won't reveal the name, let's just say it was a very INFERIOR SOLUTION to finding employment. They pulled me off VR editing at $15/hour (and I produced for them...they got their money's worth for sure!) and put me on a line rate. After 16 years in the business, I started making less than minimum wage! We all kept telling them, we can NOT work for this rate...and slowly everyone started leaving in droves. Now, I understand they are subcontracting with smaller MTSO's just to get the work out, because they have such a horrible name in the industry no one in their right mind will go to work for them.
We need to all stand up to them and say, pay me hourly for my experience level, or I want the same money for editing as typing.
Eventually they're going to have to either pay us what we're worth and decrease THEIR bottom line, or someone else will have to do it. Maybe some of the so called team leaders or managers, who didn't care how you were suffering (and would basically just say, If you don't like the money, then quit.) will have to do it. HA! yeah right
Just say no! I won't work for minimum wage or less, will you?!
WRONG! Mr. Baheta is still CEO of Focus Infomatics. You KEEP digging!

Take a deep breath
I for the most part have been a lurker for the most part.....lol. There have been times when I have read some things that have been posted and wondered about the poster's state of mind, but for the most part I take what I want to take and I let go of the crap. I have made a decision NOT to read the political part of this board. I do read an occasional Gab posting. I check out the company boards mostly and occasionally check the Job Seeker's board. If you feel that you need to leave then I'm sorry to see you go as there needs to be people who are of the mind set to be POSITIVE and RESPECTFUL of others on this board. If you leave then that is one less person. So I hope you stick around and simply do what I do: Let one eyebrow go up and then say hmmmmm. Unhappy people do unhappy things.
An MTSO can say I need these lines by this time, and you, as an IC, either say yes or no.
:+
This saves MTSO time also. SM
Why would MTSO want to waste their time scoring my test and starting the interviewing process, only for me to say no thank you when I find they don't offer DD or they pay ridiculously low pay or they use a platform I hate. I would think they would want to know before getting into the time consuming process if there is a chance I want to work for them. The whold hirinng process isn't just about what the MTSO wants, it is also about what I want.
Why pay on time if MTs will work for an MTSO..
...withtout a fuss and deliver on time? Of course, this is completely wrong and unethical but how some folks think. Even if you made a fuss, they'd probably just get someone else who made less of a fuss. They will pay on time when 1) they can't get any more qualified MTs to work for them (word gets out), and or 2) paying late starts affecting their bottom line (MTs hit them with late fees) Just IMO...
Note to any MTSO who does not pay on time SM
You are going to lose your good people. Do not go blaming the account for not paying you. That is not our problem. We entered into an agreement with YOU. You should have working capital to pay your ICs. We are truly more like employees but you get away with not paying our social security and other perks by calling us ICs. We don't get paid for Christmas or any other holiday, we don't get a Christmas bonus, we don't get paid sick days or vacation. There are no pension plans. We work our fingers to the bone, don't take phone calls during our work time, and we give our best to the job. All we ask is to be paid. If you cannot manage your business to come up with pay, do not expect the talented workers to stick around. Then see how much your account wants to pay you when you have only the desperate left working for you.
I only got a week of training before going in the deep

Axolotl MT -- take a deep breath and re-read . . .
Wandering MT's post. You were a little harsh. Why did you feel the need to rub it in her face that she didn't pass the preemployment test? I mean really, I'm sure that stings bad enough without you bringing it up again. I interviewed with Axolotl back August. They sounded great, but I decided to accept a job elsewhere.
Honestly if everyone there is as high and mighty as you come off, I'm glad I decided to go elsewhere!!
More valuable
More valuable to them but they don't probably don't pay you any more than if you just did ops, therefore, not as much income for you, but they get the work covered. Transcription is going down the tubes fast - a normal thinking person would want you to do what you would be most productive at, for employee retention purposes and for their income also. I refuse to do everything because I lose money and if they don't want to give me the work type I am best at, then I don't accept a position with that company.
Don't know if valuable, but they have been
discussed several times the last couple of weeks. Do a Ctl F search.
are ALL valuable
To whom?
Because someone who is one-specialty oriented, types 60 wpm is not as valuable (speaking in employee terms) as someone who can do whatever you throw at them and do it in half the time.
I feel every HUMAN is valuable but not every human can or should be an MT.
independent MTSO; freedom without a time clock and as the others said, same docs. nm

Either that, or some bigwig within the company is in knee-deep with AAMT.

valuable (irreplaceable)
I've been an MT only 9 years. On my full-time job, I do more work types (and very well according to my evals) than 4 people who have been working for the same hospital as I have been ranging from 22 to 25 years in seniority (I am the baby of the group)--2 because they were allowed to cherrypick what they wanted to do for a long time ago. However, these 2 can fly through OP, ER, and Ortho and I cannot. Do I believe they can be replaced? Hell, yeah--but so can I. Because we are unionized, we all make $23/h (with another raise coming in June) plus incentive and have all the same great benes. Of course it used to tick me off that so and so are praised for what they do (because they are valuable in those areas), but because I CHOSE to stay where I am, forever comparing my pay to others is, unfortunately, not going to make things better especially in times like this. Besides, I personally prefer to do work types I am most productive in anyway so I can hit my incentive quicker (fair is fair right?).
So what if employers EXPECT this-and-that from you--that's a given. But, they KNOW they will not get 100% every shift, from every MT, every single time. There is NO perfect MT. None, whatsoever. I don't care how many years of experience you have. I've seen it many times even before I became an MT myself. I am an IC for my second job, which pays 11 cpl including all headers/spaces (and it's an acutal IC position-no schedule, no minimum at all).
For a long time, I have not complained about so and so making as much as I am--it's a kill fight (even for a lot of jobs). I am a single mom, but I have good jobs, I can pay my bills, and I can feed my family (and I live in one of the most high-cost-of-living states).
To finally sum it up, ALL hardworking MTs feel they deserve more than what they are being paid AND they should. Unfortunately, many MTs (including me) do not see it happening, Hence, they either move on to another field of work, make due what they have because they love the MT field and its benefits (or lack of), or, for some reason, find a reason/excuse NOT to move on and just compare and complain (go figure).
As far as an MT being valuable (irreplaceable), I've seen very productive, hardworking MTs with a lot of experience move on to other things and being replaced with other MTs with less experience but do just as well. I've seen really good employee MTs being replaced by vendor MTs because of offshoring/outsourcing. In your last paragraph, you have valuable (irreplaceable). As any job, valuable can be replaced (especially in this field) and that is a fact of life as well.
Merry X-Mas and HNY.
Thanks for the valuable feedback.
The day I decided to give up and move on (exactly 2 weeks after I applied), I got a call from Debbie who was very apologetic. Because of all the positive things I've heard about TT, I gratefully accepted the offer.
All of you should stop working immediately so that they can see how valuable
you are. Let them work it out then.
Beats me. It does hurt their valuable employees when they log on to 0 jobs.
I have 4 accounts, a 98.9 quality rating, and I am sure it is hard to plan workflow, but I'm tired of it. It seems cyclic; it has happened a few times a year for the past 3 years. Hopefully, when the new accts start, this will stop. Guess I'll just ask for a 5th account.
you're not alone - been doing this a long time
but every slow down, expected or not, causes anxiety - I think we all feel more anxious now than we used to because we know the work is being done electronically and offshore. I got a second job just to try to save money for the lean times and emergencies. Only one provider in this household - nervewracking! I think you hear a little anxiety in the other posters' replies too - they are trying to reassure themselves in the process. This holiday seems to be worse than I remember it, this is more like Christmas and Thanksgiving! People must be really taking off! Imagine that.
Long-Time MT, you're so very right ...
I'm one of the MT's still on straight transcribing and after having my primary transferred to PI and having the majority of decent work either going to ASR or being outshored I'm struggling every day just to try to make a below minimum line count. My paychecks have been nothing short of pitiful. It's so frustrating.
Don't waste your time - they're a mess

3rd time's a charm or 3 strikes you're out
Another childish travel tale, thanks for telling about it! LOL
Sorry, you're weakening your argument big-time. nm
for your lack of discipline in saving. But for legal purposes, they should be taking the taxes out.
Don't bother - they're not worth the time
You're not. VR = same amount of time for less money.

Sounds like you're gettin' ripped BIG TIME!

Comment from December says they're understaffed and overwhelmed, no time for their MTs.nm
.
Seems you're spending more UNPAID time/work e-mailing..sm
and xeroxing as if you were sitting there with no work.
You aren't wasting your time, you're investing in a potential "yes!"
As to why you don't get a response, it might be for one or some of the reasons below, or none of them:
a. You don't meet clearly-stated qualifications. I delete every resume or application that doesn't meet standards required. If you can't follow instructions, don't expect me to take time out of my busy day to spend time on explaining this to you.
b. You're an Indian pretending to be an American. Again, I'm not wasting Keystrokes on you.
c. Your application is filled with errors. Maybe the dead silence from recruiters is a message to go back and review what you've put out there.
d. Maybe your application got overlooked. It has happened. Email the recruiter. If you don't get a response, review a, b, and c above and e below.
e. Maybe the recruiter is swamped. There are days when 10 hours will fly by and I've hardly had time to breath. There are applications to look at, resumes to review, tests to score, interviews to schedule, paperwork to complete, interviews to do, reports to file, fires to put out, and someone has to beat the tech people/MT supe upside the head to get them to call an irate MT, who feels that YOU are responsible for her every woe and calls 6 times a day to tell you about it.
From a recruiter POV, don't put your experience on page 4 under everything else you've done. I don't care that you work in the church nursery, or that you drive bus, or that you swept floors at Mitzi's Kut n Kurl. Don't make me wade through all that to find out if you can do the job I'm trying to hire for. I suspect I've tossed good resumes because I don't have time to read someone's life story before getting to the information I need. I also don't want to know your parent's names and professions (why do Indians do this?).
So, if you don't get a response you can either call or email, or just move on. It's not necessarily a rejection of you, but rather the reality of a busy society.
Nope, more like a matter of time before we're all working for chump change.

Better be glad you got the easier dictators soon, because you're time is coming for the ^^^REAL^^
dictators! Be glad you got off now. I wondered where my better dictators went the last week or so !!!!! Lucky you !!!!!
I can always tell when the TT favorite MT's are off, because I get their dictators -- making it easier for me to get my line count. Yea !
TT is constantly hiring, so the above scenario is a norm.
Amphion hires part-time - they're very strict schedule-wise though
Since part time is so hard to find these days your options are limited, so if you don't mind working for a company that is a stickler for strict schedule adherence, I say try Amphion.
when docs give mtso a check, then mtso pays you?

So you guys feel you're getting paid what you're worth with VR?
I'm not trying to be snarky. I've never done VR, so I'm trying to understand.
You're happy with your paycheck with VR? Do you find the files to be as bad as the original post implied?
So you're telling me, basically, they're bad news?
They offered me 0.095/line and you know - it sounded too good to be true, but I SWEAR the recruiter told me they do not outsource. Oh brother... I just wish they'd be honest. I really don't know what to do.
