$20 an hour is not even average for radiology. You should not make less than $25-30 per hour. sm

I work for Keystrokes and have for 3 years. I average 25 reports an hour, which is $31.25 an hour. I have 401, health insurance, direct deposit, life insurance. My lead tells me I'm wonderful when I talk to her, but I do not need a daily pat on the back.

I also have a good friend who works for them on a clinic. She only makes 0.08 per line but does 300 lines an hour, which is $24 an hour, again higher than your $20.

I don't think we're selling ourselves short. There are companies out there that are good to work for, 6 or 8 of them that I know of personally. Don't settle for $20 an hour.

HOW MUCH ON AVERAGE DO YOU MAKE AN HOUR?
WHAT IS THEIR AVERAGE PPL, ETC.
I make more than $28 an hour on average so
I am curious to hear about your union attempts but I will never join. I will be one of those taking up the jobs given up by those who attempt this.

You are entitled to spend your time, energy and money where you wish. I hope you don't come out of this attempt feeling defeated or hurt but I am afraid that will be the case.

So, for your sake I wish you well but I will not be a supporter of the union.

think, people! If she does 250 lines/hour, same docs daily, will make $15/hour
nm
what's not to believe - I said that I charge $35/hour and work 10 hour days AND DO NOT MAKE - sm
I DO NOT MAKE $100,000/YEAR

try READING the post.
I usually average between $30-35 an hour at KS
Yes, it is possible. I have a great account.
I average around $30 an hour on VR.
I get 5 cpl. I had to work to get there but I make a little more on VR than I do with straight transcription now.

I average 300 lines an hour
but some days I do have to work over 8 hours to make it work because of things going on around the house, this will definitely disrupt things
AVERAGE LINES PER HOUR

Can anyone tell me what their average lines per hour are on speech recognition, such as escription or extext?

How many lines per hour do you average?

I am rady only and average $35-40 an hour. nm
nm
What's the average an IC makes an hour? sm

I also am in the process of trying to go IC as I am sick of working for pennies a line and all the crap MQ has been dishing out.

Also, what do you do if you want a day off, and who sets TAT, you or who you type for?

Thanks!!

What about line counts? What do you average an hour?
x
150-170 lines per hour is pretty average.
Imagine that times 40%.  150 x 40% increase using an Expander is another 60 lines paid per hour.  At $.07 per line, it's the difference between $10.50 an hour at 150 lines or $14.70 an hour at 210 lines.  Work smarter, not harder.
Been here 4 months and average 250 lines per hour, sometimes 300.nm
x
The hospitals in my area pay 13.75 per hour. I type 250 LPH on average. sm

that means that I make $0.055 per line.  Yes, I get to use their computer and get benefits, but if a service is offering benefits that are comparable with a better line rate, plenty of work and I get to stay out of the cold and ice every morning in winter and humidity and heat every morning in summer, put fewer miles on my car during these high gas price times, wear sweats and p.j.'s, the choice is easy.

Now I just need to find the right company.

I just wanted to post because I read the posts about benefits and pay and thought they actually sounded pretty good.  Am I missing something?

Keystrokes rads - how many reports do you average per hour?

oh dear I average 350 lines an hour straight
typing! If that's the average for VR, then that's terrible!! I cannot express how insane that sounds to me!!!
100,000/year - no way. I charge $35/hour and work 10 hour days - sm
AND I DO NOT CLEAR $100,000/YEAR.

$35/hour x five 10-hour days = $1,750 gross/week.
x
Really? Most MTs I know make between $20-30 per hour.
x
I make $14 an hour as QA and looking
NM
Uh, you said you make 4 cpl, $20-something per hour.
At just $20 per hour, that's 4000 lines per day.

Also, many companies pay less than 4 cpl & many MTs are used to making more than $20/hr.... so even more lines. It's ridiculous.
Figure out how much you make per hour now and
.
I make much more than $17 an hour, more in the $30 range. sm
You sold yourself short. Did you pass their test?

Things that are good are sometimes worth waiting for. Why do you call it BS when you know nothing about the company other than you applied? Geesh. This must be Keystroke's week to be bashed. Who is next week?
I agree...I make anywhere between 25.00 and 28.00 an hour....
it is possible...but like the above poster said, you need to utilize Expanders and I have my own doctors also...no templates but having your own doctors helps...
I WISH I made $11.75/hour! Used to make more
This business makes no sense at all.
How on earth do you make $35-$50 an hour?
Would you mind telling how many lines a day you type and how much cpl you get paid? I just don't see how anyone can type that much that fast. Wow! I'm in awe! Have any tips for us slow pokes with attention problems?
OK, all of you on VR who make $20 an hour, please post.
And please, not the same 1 person posting over and over again who is obviously MANAGEMENT.  If you are truly making that much money doing VR, I would hate to see the quality of your work.  Oh, wait, I probably already have.  Looking up old reports, the quality I am seeing is...  not that great, to put it mildly.  Obvious, GLARING errors.  VR:  Good for MTSO.  Not good for MT--or for PATIENT CARE, to put it mildly!
At my co, I would make $5 per hour LESS to be a lead vs. production pay. nm
pppp
Im thinking by the hour and make it well worth your while. nm
x
Agree. I would love to make $20 an hour
nm
Can acute care make $17 an hour?
Yes. With WMX, in December, straight typing, I was making $25.73 an hour. Started VR in January, now averaging $20.73. Sucks.
Unions in Canada, MTs make $23 hour plus Yep
I communicate with an MT in Canada and that is what she relayed.
Actually I didn't quote a figure that I make per hour....sm
(it is above $25/hour, however) but I will say this: if the MT field is one's chosen area, then investing in it is a must. That means, instead of calling others who state they make healthy per-hour wages liars, your time would be better spent in getting as much info as possible in how that was achieved - and learning from it as well as adopting whatever it takes to help YOU. It means spending more time learning and less time bashing. It means concentration on retention of info, both old and new, to further your knowledge. It means learning what works best for you - not the next MT or whomever has posted on this board. It means taking feedback, again, without whining about it. I know of no other field where criticism isn't an essential factor - again, use it *positively* and don't let it affect you negatively! It means being open to trying new specialties when asked - you never know until you try - maybe it's just what you needed! There is a whole host of other things that you can try, but TRYING them is the key. Nothing ventured, nothing gained - and gain IS, after all, what it's all about, isn't it?
Well if I could do 500 lines per hour, I would be making 35.00 an hour. sm
nothing to sneeze at. More than fair for having a 2-year degree. Come on people, we are all acting like we expect 6-digit incomes! Whatev!
1800 lines is easily achieved. I average 300-340 lines per hour. nm
x
Yeah, take home 70% for IC and make aprox $10.50/hour or .04cpl
x
Keep puckering up, maybe someday you'll make that big $14 an hour. Best of luck to ya. nmsg
msg
If that's $9.50 an hour, that would be just under 6.5 cpl at 150 lines an hour. nm
s
Are there any QAs out there that are getting paid by the hour at 15+/hour? If so, where are you and
how are the work conditions/requirements/benefits,etc?
For example, I count every hour on the hour with my job
and while I was posting here and also checking email in between I averaged $22 an hour for 2 hours, not bad for someone who is a) slow or b) does not have a lot of time in transcription work; therefore making me a prime candidate for VR.
hour

Anyone know of a service that pays by the hour for full-time and lets you work at home?

24-48 hour TAT and that's what they get....NM
x
For 13.50/hour to QA - um - no thank you
x
24-hour TAT
Many of you post about having a job with a 24-hour TAT and/or no scheduled times as long as the work gets done.  Are there nationals that offer that or is it usually a local arrangement?  I want to find something that doesn't have a specific shift, just letting me work as I fit it in during the day.
24-hour TAT

We actually have 48-hour TAT.  I work for a local cardiology group in my area.  We can work whenever we want as long as the work gets done within that amount of time.  We can work weekends to make up for time during the week, etc..  That is the main reason I hate to give up my job.  I could make a little more elsewhere, but I prefer the flexibility.

$10 less an hour
I was laid off from HIS about 2 years ago. I had quit Edix to go to work for HIS as it was a better job. When I was laid off, I was denied unemployment, as I had quit the prior job. I hope those of you who just got laid off have better luck with unemployment. It is estimated from previous employment, unless you have worked for HIS for 1 year.
Do I take a job that is -10 per hour? sm
I got a job offer already but it is $10 a hour less than I was making at Heartland as a QA. The only perk is the bennies. Do I take it? Even unemployment would pay more I think!
$20+ per hour for QA.........
which is what is should be! Do you realize the admission clerks or people that greet patients and input info into the computer can make 16 or more an hour for data entry type work?!?! Can everyone please start respecting themselves and this profession. It's really starting to upset me :(
$8 hour an hour
I hope I misunderstand your response. Are you saying $8 an hour is a fair wage for a professional MT? Furthermore a true IC should be compensated approximately 50% more than the going rate to cover taxes, lost benefits, time off, etc. If companies could not get MTs to work for 7-8 cents a line as ICs, then I truly think we would be in this position. Unfortunately, we have become the trailer trash of the medical field because some, not all, MTs are willing to settle for less than they are worth. I am wondering what the long-term consequence will be for this field. Certainly it will not attract the level of professionals it should.

Too low - more like $16-20 per hour. nm
